I test drive TESLA's flagship sedan, the Model S PLAID, thanks to TESLA Belas in Lisbon. How does it compare to the new 2024 Model 3?

  • I rented an S Plaid year before last and my takeaway feeling was "I would never pay $120k for this". Now, owning a 2024 Model 3 my feeling is "I can't believe this car costs under $40k." The new 3 really does set a new stage for Tesla's quality and value.

    • Tesla should have set uniform price for all models (under 40k), that will simplify people's decision.

  • The plaid acceleration is so much fun. Crank up your favorite song on the excellent audio system, hit the accelerator and enjoy the ride 😄

  • So I just traded in my 2018 Tesla Model 3 for a 2024 Tesla Model S, and I’m driving on FSD version V12.3.3 and for those of you that haven’t experienced FSD, version 12.3.3.4, I believe, you’re in for a real treat, and possibly the surprise of your life, as that’s just how good it is, and so I’m gonna go out on a limb here, and say that by this time next year, FSD Full Self Driving will start to drive the car that Elon promised, oh say 5 or 6 years ago. So I do think FSD would benefit from having a front camera, I would like to see that, but the 2024 Model S, that I just picked up does not have a front camera mounted on the bumper, I am, however, driving on hardware 4, not sure what the nuances are concerning, going from hardware 3 to hardware 4, aside from the upgraded cameras, which are fantastic in their own right. So I’m still waiting for them to activate smart Summon, but I do have auto park, but I do not have smart summon yet they said that it should be coming later this year. So I decided to stick with the yolk steering wheel, the basic stealth gray exterior paint, and the stock 19”wheels and covers, as I saw no reason to spend additional money for the bigger 21” wheels and tires just to lose range. I also stuck with the base cover, stealth gray, and avoided paying an additional $1500 for some other color. So overall I like the car, however, I was disappointed with the lack of space in the back, as the seats should’ve been more padded, and the cabin pushback to allow for the seats to either recline or pushback, so the occupants in the backseat would have more support and more legroom. So you should be aware that you can move the seats forward from the rear touchscreen as well. Cheers 🥂

  • Good video. I’m currently debating getting the 2024 M3LR or a low mileage 2022 MS as the pricing is not too far off. So far, the M3 seems to be the better value with the upgrades.

  • It's definitely a fine car, but considering the price it must be. The Yoke is a different story, I prefer the normal round version. Still, there will be a third party for returning the stocks at least for signaling. Otherwise very fine car.

  • The nice thing about the Model S exterior design is that it has some similarities to the previous models, but with increasingly modern design elements. I really dont like what they did with the front design of the 2024 Model 3.

  • Just want to remind everyone that the new 2024 Model 3 has borrowed a lot of the Model S bits so to say the Model S has what the Model 3 has is backwards. Anyway, obviously there is a Model S refresh on the horizon since Tesla looks like they are making the Model 3 more upscale by borrowing from the S so the S needs a refresh to distance itself from the 3 to justify the price difference. The 3 is nice but too small for and I prefer the 670hp MS LR which is a mid 10 second car which is PLENTY performance for the street.

  • Don’t get the Model S yet. It’s due another refresh with steer by wire and the new battery pack. They will likely also bring the new noise reduction techniques in the new Model S . Another “upgrade” would be getting new hardware for FSD. Current hardware is not enough.

    @chatshd@chatshdАй бұрын
    • Agreed. Model S and X definitely need another refresh with adding things like ambient lighting, steer by wire, front bumper camera, HW4 or w/e the newest one is, quality improvements, and all that. I think both the yolk and turn signal buttons would benefit greatly with the implementation of steer by wire. All of what (+ the obv speed of the plaid) would at least better justify spending like $90k for an S Plaid ($75k for regular S).

    • @@liam1902 no ambient lighting in 2024 for $90.000 car 🙈

      @chatshd@chatshdАй бұрын
    • @@chatshd yep. Price point and lacking lots of premium features makes the S/X seem like a dumb buy unless you just got money to burn. But Tesla only sells a very small amount of them so obv their main focus is gonna be the consumer affordable models (3/Y and eventual 2).

      @liam1902@liam1902Ай бұрын
    • @@liam1902 there is still clearly a demand in US/Canada for $80.000+ cars. Model S could still sell a lot of them if refresh is done right

      @chatshd@chatshdАй бұрын
    • @@chatshdwell obv yeah there's some demand for them still but not that much when compared to 3 or Y. So yes S and X needs a refresh to feel like a $70k+ vehicle.

  • Taycan is a 4 door sports car. It’s not meant to be super roomy like the model S plaid. You want that in a Porsche, you have to look at the Panamera.

  • Currently the Tesla network isn't an advantage anymore. In Germany I would have to drive by 5 other DC chargers to finally reach a Tesla charger. also they're at less attractive places neither close to the autobahn or any shops. I'm driving electric since 2021 and it never occurred to me to charge at Tesla
