Why Stone Crab Claws Are So Expensive | So Expensive

Stone crab claws are one of the priciest seafoods you can buy. Depending on their size, claws can cost as much as $70 per pound. Unlike most other crustaceans, it's illegal to harvest the body of a stone crab, so fishermen must only collect the claws before returning the rest of the crab to the ocean. So what makes these claws so coveted? And why are they so expensive?

You people are over reacting, and if you think it’s unfair compare our brain sizes to the brain size of a crab. • It's not as bad as most people think. The primary reason the crabs die without their claws isn't because of starvation (they are bottom-feeders), but because they use their claws for self defense. I'm personally against harvesting both claws, but crabs are a lot more capable than most people think. Their claws grow back pretty quickly, they just aren't big enough to legally harvest for a couple of years. Biologists don't think that they experience pain either, so it doesn't physically hurt them. It just makes them a lot more vulnerable.
