    • While I understand your point, I don't think Putin's reluctance to station missiles near the USA border stems from altruism. Rather, it seems to be a reflection of Russia's relatively lesser power compared to the USA. If Russia had more power, it's likely that they would consider a similar move. Also, Putin's expansionist and imperialistic mindset is evident from his actions, which he doesn't try to conceal. One can observe this behavior in the countries that are currently in the Russian sphere of influence. Although many of them may not have willingly joined this union, they have been left with no choice since Russia has the potential to be a dangerous enemy. For instance, Chechnya, Georgia, and Ukraine are examples of what will happen to you if you decide to be independent of Russian control.

  • Some things I feel are important to add: 1) Putin said that the collapse of the USSR was a drama for RUssian people because millions of people were now in foreign national states, families were separated etc.; 2) "Russia invading Chechnya" sounds like it has invaded a foreign country, but Chechnya was and is a part of the Russian Federation, controlled by separatist rebels in the 90s; 3) Russian economy growing rapidly in 2000-2008 is not so closely connected with Putin - after early free market turmoil it is kind of expected from economy`s side that it had to start growing after initial shake-up, also rising prices of natural resources helped; 4) Putin`s view of Russia in the world is based not on "Russia above all" etc, but we can clearly see that he`s opposing the monopolar system and thrives to make our world multipolar with Russia as one of many independent influential actors; 5) About being walled off of foreign medias - here I am, writing this comment from Russia in English on a foreign channel, and neither The Times, DW, and you name it - any other english speaking media isn`t banned or unavailable for people here, we too use the global internet, just like the rest of the humanity. Thanks for coming to my TED talk :) Anyways I would like to thank the host for her great job, I enjoy watching her videos and wish her all the best in personal life and career.

Then they invaded Republic of Degestan, a part of the Russian Federation in the 1999 at the same time as they sent some terrorists for trip across southern Russia for exploding civilians houses and killing numerous people. Nice "rebbels".

    • It was even worse in the spring. Ukrainians were told in the news that Russians are taking refugees to labor camps in Russia. And first of all, Ukraine is going through a filtration camp. The very name "filtration camp" for a Russian-speaking person creates an image of a German concentration camp with furnaces. I read the comments and was horrified, Ukrainians seriously discussed that they would be in labor camps as prisoners to work for free, to be slaves. All KZhead and Instagram with comments from Ukrainians about camps in Russia were. And I followed the news on Facebook. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation wrote about humanitarian corridors, for example, from Kiev. An hour later, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine wrote that the Russians were lying, there was no humanitarian corridor. And so it has been many times. And you haven't seen yet how Ukrainians are running away from the military on the streets of Ukraine, in order to take a man to the military enlistment office, you need 3-4 military. They force men into the car, often fights. KZhead and Instagram won't even miss such videos. This has been happening for 3 weeks now.
