I hope you enjoy your new place for generations to come. But you know someone in the future will probably be doing the same thing to your hard work in the distant future. We are all just passing through this place anyway. Nice job!

  • It turned out very nice, but then I knew it would from watching your videos. Plenty of skilled craftsman can build a great project, but the ability to add the special touches takes it to the next level. Wood on the poach deck? It almost looked like poplar, but I can't imagine that lasting long. I also thought cedar, but that doesn't seem right either. What did you use?

    @philgriswold2133@philgriswold213311 ай бұрын
    • Thanks Phil, I know you've been here since before we started! We used pressure treated southern yellow pine on the deck and framing but the rails are poplar with a treated top rail. Got poplar out of the woods so price was right if I have to replace a few spindles down the road.

  • IS The spray foam flamable isf so at what rate and temp...and is smoke TOXIC,...

    @jbro8351@jbro835111 ай бұрын
    • It is no more so than other materials. I believe all smoke is toxic to differing degrees. It is substantially better insulation so obviously we don't plan on a fire but it does a way better job reducing emissions from over use of utilities to control climate so it should come out ahead from a footprint stand point.

      @rabbit07637@rabbit076373 күн бұрын
    • @@rabbit07637 That's probably a bigger question than I can fit in the KZhead comments. Keeping the roof as simple as possible makes it much easier to build. That starts with the floor plan. Rectangles are always the easiest because you won't have a hip or a valley. Material wise metal or asphalt are pretty easy. I went crazy trying to keep bugs out and they get in anyways. Not sure there is much you can do besides treat for them when they do.

    • I purchased the land and the cabin for about $35,000 (would be quite a bit more now) and we probably spent upwards of $55,000 to gut and remodel the cabin. I would say all in we are pretty close to $100,000. If a fella were to do themselves or get friends to help for fun you could bring that number down quite a bit. The heat pump and HVAC system alone was about $12,000 of that.
