Garden Nightmare Transformation | Watch me Rescue this DISASTER!
So I have another big cleanup for you today, and it's a good one. I went around to this property to do a quote for a young family as they had a rental inspection coming up. They were concerned that they were going to fail, and you can see why. After doing the estimate, the young lady was obviously concerned about the price, so I did her a great deal and also did a lot of extra work. The extra work included all of the front and the power washing, plus the nice discount on the back. It's really a massive transformation and a cool episode. All up, the job took me around 10 hours to complete, including 2 trips to the landfill, with just under a ton of material taken out.

A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.

Sometimes people get old and sick, sometimes it's financial situations that become an unthinkable burden, sometimes it's the feeling of being all aline with no one to turn to for help or guidance or friendship. You’re right. Unless the people who live there are so disabled they should be in a nursing home, there’s no excuse for having a yard full of garbage. The wine bottle was from 2018. SIX years ago! The people were that sick and disabled six years ago?! Worthless and lazy would be my assessment.

Everyone has a story. I've always been amazed how people are so quick to judge. I was a single mom of three small children and had to work full time. Unfortunately the yard was last on my list. I tried on weekends but one adult can do so much. The very fact someone hired this guy to clean up their lawn shows that they care.

I think people just become overwhelmed- and do t know how to do this kind of work- and then they give up. Not everyone has the ability to “see” it. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Who knows- the homeowner could a true visionary- in another field. As a community- if everyone was just good at being an incredible landscape architect- we would just have a bunch of beautiful landscapes- and no cures for cancer. Don’t decide- who people- are, or what they’re going through.

Never in my life would I have thought that under the grass in the back yard there would be paving all over the area!!! You are perfect! The difference is therefore extremely striking. It's a joy. Now the owner has a pretty cozy backyard there compared to the mess before. I get the feeling that no one lives in that house yet? Until one walks in the shoes of another- or shared but a fragment of time traveling together on their journey- passing judgment does not seem the fair or considering an all-encompassing view of why or how things “appear” on the outside as they do. While I share in your belief that I myself would sooner dispose of discarded items out of sight or in the proper receptacle- I can ALSO think of at least a dozen scenarios why this is either not “easy” or placed as top priority among other basic needs not being met/ fulfilled. 🤍🕯️🕊️💫

Wow, it took a while to get in such bad shape! Shame on those renters. We have been renting for fifteen years, three different houses and I left the outsides of each one much nicer than when I arrived. I am glad you could clean it up. By the way, our last two landlords lived/live right beside us, so no way we could even let it get ths way without them noticing!
