That was the best awful game Ive ever seen. As bad as Samsonov was, the team in front of him was even worse. The Samsonov/Leaf relationship has gotten toxic. He does nothing to help the team and the team does nothing to help him. For the health of both the team and Samsonov, his next start should be with the Marlies.

However, the Leafs this season have lost to both Chicago and Buffalo twice, Ottawa, Columbus etc. They've been consistently losing to bad teams for years. That isn't a Samsonov issue. Thats a culture/leadership issue. They think they can win on skill alone and don't need to work hard or pay attention to the details.

I've been a fan of both for years. Live closer to Buffalo and the tickets are cheaper. They used to be in different divisions. That said, even if it's a Leafs v Sabres game, if I'm going to Buffalo, I'm wearing my Sabres jersey.

When is the last time you saw him bitching out his team for running around in their end like fools? Never. The same problem the Leafs had under Babcock is the problem they still have - team defense. Babcock tried to fix it, and was fired. Keefe is sugar coating his players so he won't get fired.

You just never know what to expect from the Leafs. When they’re motivated to win, they’ll win. One of the best in the league to come back from adversity. But then a game like this happens and it makes you wonder if there’s some psychological block permeating the team.

The only good thing about that game as a Leafs fan is that Matthews goal, it was a real beaut. All i can do is laugh at the rest.
Samsonov lets the defence down, then the defeated defence lets Jones down. It all starts with Samsonov.
Defense also let Samsonov down too. Sammy does nothing to help the team but the team doesn't do anything to help sammy either. Team knows hes struggling and is lacking confidence and then proceeds to play pond hockey level defense

I especially liked the one where Mathews is hugging the post watching the puck go by. Not a defense man around.
Mathews is a goal scoring machine. But he has very little interest in the other aspects of the game. It’s a shame, because he has the size. He looks disinterested in blocking shots, back checking, finishing checks, wearing opponents out, board battles, net front battles, etc. Your top players must play that way for success. You can’t shortcut it by getting bottom 6 guys who play with that testosterone. Your stars have to. The “core 4” all seem to lack it. The Wings were like that in the early 90’s, until they played a little less pretty, and a lot more gritty. Yzerman changed his game and it got him 3 cups.

The Sabres play better when there is good attendance. This game had more Leaf fans than Buffalo but that doesn't seem to matter. More people = more energy. They should lower ticket prices to try to bring in more people. I'm confident the results would drastically improve.
I was was blaming the goalies in the beginning. But then realized the goalies couldn't do much with totally lousy defense protecting them. We may as well have gone into the game with the three forwards only. Buffalo out ran and out played the defense so bad that Buffalo may as well have just had a game of penalty shots.
you can still blame the goalies. or rather sammy. actually blame keefe for putting sammy in net to begin with. the defense or entire team can't play worth a damn with sammy in net, knowing he's going to let in at least 3 super softies per night....before getting pulled. they conceded the win from the start
