It really doesn't make any sense, but I had a lot of fun thinking of Sims 4 in context of the real world and how messed up things can be. This is a list of the weirdest things in Sims 4. Either strange decisions, bugs, or things in the Sims universe that could not exist in the real world.

My pet peeve is that my celebrity Sims cannot talk to their own grandchildren just because they are famous and little timmy is not.

The celebrities are ridiculous. They knock on MY door and I have to ATTEMPT to introduce myself to THEM? I know that there are some celebs who think they’re above the general population, but not every one acts like that. They could’ve made it into a fame quirk that gets triggered by too many meet and greets, or anything that made sense. I am not a fan of someone just because I don’t have any fame. No, I wouldn’t like an autograph, and you aren’t cool enough for me to drop whatever I’m doing and run to you.

The celeb status thing is such a bad mechanic,. It just intrudes on everything! As you said, prevents you from talking to family members both that you're related to or that are your in-laws. If a famous Sim rocks up to a goaled event, or even an ungoaled one, it essentially RUINS the event. Music stop. Bars stop serving. Restaurant staff stop running food out. Your date AND your Sim is too busy oohing and ahhing over the celeb get that gold medal. Or you're chilling with your partner in your house and the paparazzi turn up so your Sim just gets up and walks out to pose in whatever they're wearing at the time?? What celeb does that anyway? It's just so badly done. At least they fixed the disgusted reaction to absolutely every non-famous Sim 5 star celebs used to do.

When sim really has to use the bathroom they go as slow as possible. It's so strange cause in The Sims 3 they used to make a mad dash for it, you know like a human would do.
Had this happen at a campsite. It was a long walk and the results were not pretty.
The only good it does is make for amusing results in GreyStillPlays torture of the sims.
My child sims pee themselves a lot for that reason. Children already walk slow, but when they have to pee, it's just ridiculously slow. Pretty sure any kid that has to pee is going to run for it, unless things have changed since I was a kid...
Adam K heck it's hard to keep kids from running around even when they don't have to go. So that's double annoying.
I meeeean... There have been times I've had to pee so bad I literally can't walk without peeing myself. And I don't mean literally in the stupid figurative way I mean it in the literal "I have to stand here with my legs crossed breathing and wait til I can walk" way.
One pet peeve of mine is that sims are not allowed to dislike each other. Your sim can woohoo with someones spouse in the same house, convince them to divorce, then marry the sim and after one negative reaction with the cheated on sim they may laugh and joke like nothing happened. Your sim can (with a player controlling them) over time build up hatred between two sims. But leave them alone with no personal input and after one or two negative interactions they are laughing and having a great time. I'm not looking for an everyone hates me game play (like some of the earlier games felt like), but longer lasting consequences for poor behavior would be nice.
Not to mention the guilt trips everyone gives you just because you have a bad relationship with one Sim. "You're not friends with [insert Sim name here]? I don't think you're a good person to know!"
This one! I wish sims you pick on and lower friendship with had a negative effect on sims with special relationships with. If my sim throws a drink in Brenda's face, Brenda's best friend Jim should lose friendship points with me
My sims ex wife came over to joke around with them- like no hun, he CHEATED ON YOU.
@@maemae527 My Sim's SO got mad at her when an NPC flirted with her. I was like "Wtf, she didn't do anything you idjit..." lol
Plus there are no one-sided relationships. If your Sim loves another, in return that Sim loves your Sim. The relationship bar always goes up equally for both sims. So no secret lover, admirer, foe etc is possible.

I'm so sorry about losing Pam. I didn't know you had a partner in starting your forums, but that means she was a huge part of our lives too. The forums, guides and comments are indispensable resources for us Sims players. She helped thousands of people around the world. Rest in peace Pam, and thank you for taking care of our community.
I spent so many nights as a kid researching those forums. She has impacted us all. I dont think I would have really gotten into the sims community at all if it werent for Carl and Pam's website.

@@gothclown9013 That’s fine, my kids have played sims 3 and 4. The problem is, that Sims from day one was created for and marketed to a teen and up audience, children could play it, but it wasn’t made for them. Now it feels little their aim is to cater to much younger people and it makes the game lose its edge.
A huge peeve of mine for the sims 4 is when the devs will build a HUGE neighborhood world but there's a total of 3 liveable lots on it (see the quarry from eco living and the starter neighborhood from get famous)
TS4 is basically set dressing. Del Sol Valley has to be the worst offender. This world should have been the biggest. It should have looked like HollyWood or Las Vegas. It’s just full of empty space.
@@Roxie1255 haha yea ive never actually used that world because its so tiny and stupid. theres nothing to do in it if you arent trying to be an actor. I miss when I would spend like 5 minutes trying to decide what world to start a ts3 game in, now i automatically go to windenburg or san myshuno because they are the most interesting and visually appealing. I was playing n newcrest the other day and oh my got the backdrops are so ugly and low poly., and the sky box is really tiny and obvious, you can see where it starts at the hoizon when you zoom out way too easily, its just so bad, it feels like a little set, not a world. I cant stand it, i love the theming, but the actual models are so bad, and these are on ultra settings, Like why dont they have a high poly version for the higher visual settings? And thats not just newcrest, most of the towns with fake buildings have really ugly models for those buildings. I really like ts4 art style for the most part but the backdrops are so fucking bad, I cant believe they put that out in 2015.

Del Sol Valley is such a disappointment. It looks so pretty and then you go in and realize... Oh there's like 3 starter homes, 2 (or 3?) homes for the rich and famous, the ugliest museum to ever exist, and a couple of community lots you can honestly do without. I gave up even trying with that mess.
It's also lame how you have to build around the scenery instead of making your own style. That lounge lot in Cats and Dogs will always be surrounded by objects that make it look like a lounge.
so they weren’t even making whims properly for the FIRST expansion pack? and then they abandoned them after the second one? jesus christ, every new thing i learn about this game makes me just stare at the screen in disbelief. and the sprinklers being useless grinds my gears because i love gardening but hate having to go water plants for ages when you’ve already gotta manually plant, fertilize, weed, and harvest them. RIP Pam 🤍

Usually I hire a gardner, especially when I have the reward of free services, but I noticed that they DON'T WATER every crop when you have too many, but that was before of the sprinkler upgrade (as I never touched with plants ever again).
They abandoned the food calorie system in the first game pack. They abandoned whims in the sixth game pack. And they forgot to add toddlers for some meals in the tenth expansion pack (but also possibly before then, I only noticed this after trying some new food from Mt. Komorebi) so the toddlers literally can't eat them if you hand them a plate of it. But yeah, things have been messed up, missing, or awkward since Base Game. I don't know why we're surprised. :(
I have more faith in Carl's vision for Sims than the entirety of EA company.

No matter what we say they will never change EA already embrass bsing the scummy gaming publisher of the world they will do only what investors want to see not what the public wants they hype up their games so much so theu can gain an instant profit on release day and whats worse its working for them. The only real way EA would change is if no one literally buys their games but sadly thats no longer an option now since they are buying studio and owner ship of most games nowadays

One thing that annoys me about city living is that in the social media career when you want to do a sponsored product your fans are always angry and you always lose followers and you never get paid. It drew me away from the career entirely
I hate this career as well. I had never done it before, but I'm in the middle of creating my own Sims 4 challenge and so I am testing all the career and other stuff to make sure things work...etc. This career is so tedious and empty - definitely a wasted opportunity.

It's a bit of a mixed bag in that regard because lots of KZheadrs take paid advertisements and their fans/viewers/subscribers get mad especially if they're peddling complete crap because while it means the creator is getting paid it also means they've become a "sell-out" as it were. People watch your videos for entertainment or information or whatever they watch for, not to hear you foam at the mouth about some crappy mobile game just so they can justify not working harder than they already do, if they do any work at all.
@@donnykitsune6289 But that's the problem. There's no nuance in the gameplay and you never get any reward. What's the point? At least IRL it could also be entertaining or heartfelt promotion (stuff you believe in supporting with your platform) but when the game always docks your followers and you never get paid, the implication is that all you can do is support garbage that offends people and there's no other option or other rewards to make it worthwhile.
It's not like selling out automatically makes people hate you, some people make their ads entertaining like come on. Totally missed opportunity
The aspiration reward traits are so unbalanced it's ridiculous. I realized this while playing a Super Sim challenge and I noticed that all these reward traits I was accumulating were utterly useless. For completing the Fabulously Wealthy aspiration (which is too easy to complete imo but that's another conversation) you get a reward of weekly checks in the mail for 5% of your funds. But if my Sim is already rich, what am I gonna do with 5% more of my money? I don't need it!
Completing the Computer Whiz aspiration gives you a new make money on computer ("turking") choice that is less lucrative than the options needed to progress through the path.
For real! I have a family with a ghost sim who is almost level 50 is his career, so he makes I think 15000 simoleons per day at work. And then, he has that reward trait, so every week I get 100000+ simoleons from that. And then I accidentally gave one of his great-great-great-grandchildren the same reward trait, and so he also gets 100000+ simoleons a week. I have like 4000000 simoleons and I don't know what to do with it. I already have them all donate 1000 to charity every time they can, and since the ghost is 5 star celebrity, he has that actions that's just throwing money away, but I genuinely don't know what to do with this much money. My bills are 25000 simoleons a week and I'm still accumulating it, with the amounts increasing each week because I can't get rid of it fast enough! What am I supposed to do with all of this money?!?!

@@KariahBengalii Also, on top of retiring and buying the most expensive restaurant, as BonaperteBardition suggested, pay all of your restaurant employees the highest wages possible and pay for their training as frequently as possible, buy one of the million simoleon mansions on the gallery if you don't already have one, make sure the lot is cursed so you have to replace the stove and anything around your fireplaces frequently (you could also give it creepy crawlies so you can get the green circles disease and need bone dust regularly, if you have Jungle Adventure), upgrade all the toilets completely so they catch fire regularly (if you have Eco Lifestyle), make sure your restaurant is cursed so you can regularly replace objects while you're there if you want to continue visiting it, buy an expensive vet and an expensive retail store, pay all of your employees' the highest wages and pay for lots of training, you can also make these cursed if you plan on visiting them but either way, pay your employees insanely well, set all of your prices to be obscenely cheap with very little profit in the retail store, go on vacation repeatedly and rent super expensive lodgings every time, and move out some of your family members to different lots, give them a ton of money so they can buy super expensive houses too and make sure everyone has a butler or else a maid, a nanny, and a gardner, just because. If you don't have any packs, just use a cheat to remove all of the money that you already have, retire, and start from 0. :)
I have one. Sims mobile, a game that literally IS BASED on the sims 4 models, has usable bunk beds, but for some reason they haven't even added any bunk bed even tho THEY LITERALLY HAVE THE MODELS AND ANIMATIONS TO DO SO

Seasons being a pack? This will never make sense to me. It should be apart of the base game
Funny bc in the sims 2, it was meant to be in the base game, but bc of that rain inside the house glitch, it was scrapped and included in the later pack seasons. I guess it was that time ea found a chance to monetize that aspect.
Felmarge Go Same thing with Cars. Will Wright wanted to do so much with the TS2 Base Game, but perhaps had time crunches.
Sims 2 wanted seasons to be in their base game i remember, but it was too much info for disc back then. so they made it an expansion with a bunch of extra stuff as well as seasons. This set the standard unfortunely and ea cares more about money than good full games.
There is a mod for licensing song multiple times. But then again we shouldn't have to use mods for that, oh well
Yeah, it's definitely something they should fix. Half of all mods exist because they're an obvious improvement!

@@CarlsSimGuides I cant wait for paralives to come out, I hope that all the sims fans move over to playing that and spur EA to actually try and make something that people will play because its fun, not because they have no other options. I really do think that if paralives doesnt kick them into gear, this franchise is dead.
"there's a mod for that" is as prevalent in the Sims 4 world as saying "there's an app for that" for well...the world.
An essential mod, IMO. If the music aspiration requires you to write 4 songs and make however much from licensing them (and it’s not even the top tier), we shouldn’t be forced to wait however long to do that. Nightmare!
One of the most irritating things is your teen has a girl/boyfriend and they age up and they're still their girl/boyfriend but all romantic things disappear. A little warning please!
I think it was like that in the sims 3 too. Had to get a mod for that. It would be nice if perhaps the romance stayed the same but they are locked out of romance stuff 🤷♀️
I kind of understand why though, and Carl touched on this too. Since "teen" is very vague, it could be a person anywhere from 13-19. And the young adult is in their 20s (possibly 30s). So it's a bit creepy to say the least. If the age progression had more steps it would be less awkward.
if you have MCCC mod, you can change that.
@@rhyliemasons7957 It's less that I don't understand it but more that if their other half ages up, it would be nice to get a notification of 'hey the sim your sim is dating aged up and is no longer dating them' instead of them still dating.
In Sims 2 they would lose their relationship if they spoke to each other again after ageing separately. So if you age up one, then quickly go to the other house and age up the other, the relationship stays for good. They also added a nice thing where you could have your townie friends who are your age, age up with you if they were at the party.
Even worse? I still have whims active. I TRY to use them. But when my sim does what the whim says ... it doesn't process. It just stays there until I unpin it and it goes away. It says catch a fish. Fine, I send my sim fishing. He catches three fish. Whim is still there. Oh another one! Eco Living. The reward is to USE less bits and pieces but as soon as my sim got the aspiration reward... she RECEIVED less bits and pieces when recycling. Good thing she didn't need as much because she wasn't getting hardly any. Had to work HARDER to get the bits and pieces to use in the first place. Theres more, there are sooooo many more.
Most of the time, the whims work for me. They're mostly useful for giving a direction to social situations. Flirt, Talk To, and various Play X With all work fine. But they don't register some of the most important whims like getting married.

I've heard the more packs you own, the less the whims work. I only have base game so it works fine for me

On the subject of the camera bug: Polite Introduction gives you 50% friendship with anyone immediately.
One of my sims _instantly_ gets full friendship whenever she introduces herself to anyone and it's really annoying. I have to manually lower her friendship with every sim she meets so she won't have 50 best friends. Thank goodness for the UI extensions mod...
Do you have any relationship mods installed? Because I've never had that issue
@@fuzzyapple It might be either the Slice of Life mod or a setting I changed in MCCC. I was trying to make it a bit harder to make friends. I believe introducing themselves works just fine for my other sim and he doesn't become instant best friends.
Are they also living in a Tiny Home? If it's a 32 tile lot, that boosts relationship gain.

That's the only realistic part about sims 4 lol. I hated friend requirements for job promotions in previous games. Like no thank you I will not spend all day on the phone to keep up with my 12 friends

@@beautifullEternal It's really not that realistic. Big difference between a connection and a freind. You'll chat over smalltalk but you won't exactly invite these people to your wedding. Aquantiances really. And there are still multiple avenues into various careers. Programming, infamously, tends to attract anti-social people. And needing to be freinds with 12 people to advance in the military? Load of rubbish. These things might HELP a career, but as a requirement? Nonescence.
It still irks my nerves that we can’t build/run our own apartments buildings if we own City Living. We can only remolded existing ones. My deepest condolences to you and Pam’s family and friends.
The whims thing is really bad. Ever since TS2, I’ve played a wants-based play style. So for TS4 I tried to adapt that to following the Sims’ whims but it quickly became apparent the system was broken. Thank goodness for modders like Bienchen who have overhauled the system; I just wish Maxis/EA would put in the effort their fans do sometimes! Sorry to hear about Pam. My condolences to everyone who knew and loved her.
My biggest pet peeve in the Sims 4 (the one that made me completely stop believing that things would get better) was when Get Famous came out, I genuinely liked the acting career. My Sim was doing an awesome monologue scene in an elegant, Victorian style dress and then, at the climax....she started breakdancing.
We'll just say it was released in the early 2000s style. Every movie needed a dance finale. Actually, that sounds like something that would end up in a real blooper reel.

everything feels like a dead end after playing for while. unless my sims are making babies. so now although i was planning to raise one now i'm raising triplets.
I’ve been tricked so many times. Have my sims try for a baby..nope not pregnant. A sim week later try again nope not pregnant, try again pregnant 🥳.....birth comes and triplets 😭 I just wanted one baby🥴!

I definitely get a kick of out random stuff that comes to mind like the grub worm, so it's usually worth keeping a genuine reaction.
The easiest way to be a mansion baron, after building your lovely big house, is to throw in a basement and as many high-price computers as it takes to hit that cap. You can then sell them all back after you have the thing. The collections for Plantsims, Easter Eggs and Sugar Skulls are still right there. I have no idea why they could not at least be a yearly event.
Adding on basements is the best way to cheat Mansion Baron. You can have a basement full of columns and walls with nothing but windows and then another basement with a full skating rink. And then on the surface it still looks like a one-room shack.l Easter Eggs and Sugar Skulls are at least decorative. I don't know what to do with Growfruit.

I usually build a basement with those full sets of armor from the art section and place 10 columns, a wall with like 20 windows and as many rocks as I can to fullfil that landscaping stat and there you go, every new sim that activates the trait will be doing that aspiration in like 2 seconds
You can still do the plant sims. You have to find the stump thing in debug. Then you get gardening up high so you can buy rare seeds until you get all the seeds. Or you can just cheat for the seeds, too.

Doing all right. A couple days without this type of work is needed. I was in the middle of this when I got the news, gave myself time to breathe and gradually worked on it.

Not to mention they added the Celestial Crown with Get Famous, which can use the Jet crystal to boost whim gains... which they discontinued with said pack. Sorry to hear about Pam, btw. Hope you feel better.
To me is infuriating that teens look like adults, I always have trouble telling them apart without passing my mouse on top of them. I wanna know from looking you at the distance if you are a kid! Make them just a tad shorter for God sake.
Teen are pretty lacking in shoulders and their lower faces are a bit rounder, but yeah, it's hard to tell. Of course, irl it can be hard to tell also. My friend's daughter looked 19 when she was 14.
Ah but if they made them a bit shorter, that would mean they need all their own animations separate from adults, and that's a lot of work. They can't actually put work into their game! Work??? No no no. Much easier just to use the exact same size model so all the same animations can be used.

@@ShadoeLandmanThe problem is in the game land they look the EXACT same for 3 life stage (teen, young adult, adult). Young adult can go until almost 30 I assume and the game doesn’t even add age lines or anything when they become adults. Height honestly doesn’t mean anything IRL. Teens can be taller than some adults even. But usually something visually signals youth. For the game having no real change between three distinct life stages is a tad bit of a problem.
@@TheDawnofVanlife There ARE changes, like their lower face shape and body width, between teen and young adult. Young adult to adult adds age lines, facial sagging, etc.
The vampire one annoys me so much, especially since the perk has absolutely no use. You can just as well knock on the door. In all my years of playing Sims 4, no Sim has ever refused to let me in.
You use that for any residential lots even though there's no one living in it
7:53 the same thing applies to the serial romantic aspiration. You get a trait that lets you have as many romantic relationships as you want with nobody getting jealous, after you earned it by having eight boyfriends or girlfriends at the same time.
I can see Pam was special to you. My condolences to her family and friends.
The other added benefit to the Grilled Cheese aspirations is you get to paint all styles of Grilled cheese sandwiches.

Another thing that makes no sense: Why do Sims improve their fitness skill when emtying the potty? Is that poo that heavy?
yea my sims got a fitness level from emptying the trash lol. I think certain activities should only increase skills to specific levels. Like you shouldnt be able to master fitness by taking out the trash, sure maybe it can get you to level 1 but it should not increase beyond that.
@@CHLOCHLOLP It seems like locking skill gain below a certain level might be hard to code, but they do something similar with the skill books already. They should do that with other skills too, like playing campfire songs doesn't give any guitar skill past level 5.
@@BonaparteBardithion yea if they can do it with skill books it seems like the mechanic for specific interactions and objects only giving a certain amount of potential skill gain. It seems mostly like an overthought, they probably felt like it was more work than it was worth (for them, not for players ofc, because that would be worth it to us for sure) to assign those values to all the skill related interactions.
It's like when you take a huge doodoo but you have to push really hard and then feel like you lost 5 lbs afterwards

I’ve always wanted a child > preteen > teen stage Edit: I’ve put some thought into this Infants 0-1 Toddlers 2-4 Children 5-9 Preteens 10-12 Teens 13-19
It definitely could use a preteen/young teen stage. It would solve a lot of the teen issues. They made Young Adult standard, so it's not like they're adverse to adding new stages.
We wouldn't need an extra stage if it felt like our Sims were actually growing older or if teens interacted differently and children had more they could do as they aged up. The lack of meaningful and unique gameplay is why children and teens suck (also why elders suck.) Children have so little to do and teens and elders only have so much because they're functionally the same as all other adults.

First, my condolences to you and Pam's family. Also, yeah the reward system in this game is questionable. Not only the trait rewards, but also the item rewards. Some of the trait rewards are also the same as the other rewards, like the Beach Life trait and the Carefree trait. Really wish they focused more on these rewards, it gives incentive to playing a feature of the game again. :/
Oh, wow. I'm so sorry to hear about Pam. She will be missed. I haven't been to the sight or participated in any tournament challenges in a while, honestly been on a sims break for nearly 6 months. Prayers for her family and friends.

Seasons gives you the stupid “get a bee box” whim every time! That’s when the father winter trait comes in handy, YOU BUY A LOT A BEE BOXES AND IT MAKES YOUR SIM SO MUCH HAPPIER! Makes total sense yeah, everyone loves buying beeboxes
Is anybody having a problem with sims randomly playing the guitar, violin, molding clay, pulling out the work pad for the civil designer career (even though they're not in that career), amongst other things??
Doing push ups all the freaking time just wherever whenever. One of my sims did push ups next to her spouse's corpse right after she died. She started to get upset when the Reaper showed up but it was just disappointing to notice how little effort EA makes.
No for most of that, but definitely on the molding clay. I think there was a bug that spawned several into inventories for a while. In theory, they fixed it. But everyone still has the stupid things and plays with them ten hours a day.
It's a side effect of the new mechanics from eco lifestyle neighborhood action plans. It was supposed to be fixed, but save files still can "catch" the bug where the NAPs go out of control, so I decided against _ever_ playing with any NAPs except for testing purposes, can't deal with more stupid sim behaviour

The talking toilet and the toilet from snowy escape sometimes will produce fire for no reason. I know the talking toilet always goes on fire but the toilet from snowy escape was funny. My Sim was doing his deed and it caught on fire. What a funny way to deal with.

There’s so many things that is just plain irritating but for sure one big gameplay aspect is the fact that the same talking points are for everyone. You can’t ask your friend that came over RAGING MAD why they are mad, or your friend you bumped into in the park, they’re sad, only to “cheer up”. If you play the friends household, you know it’s because they had a family member that died but can your other sim find that out? Sometimes, if they say “console about death” you can but who might have died? No. You can’t get any info on other Sims moodlets. No info on someone’s birthday, that they just got a promotion, new job, moved, got married, had a baby, got an A on their test (or a c) or graduated...etc Gameplay relationships are flat out boring
Friend/partner: hey, can I come over? Your sim: sure! The friend/partner: arrives enraged and any interaction will piss them off. Like, WHY ARE YOU HERE THEN???

I thought you were going to mention Island Living Beach Life aspiration reward trait, which is exactly the same trait you can buy for satisfaction points in the reward stoee
You can't complete that aspiration if you're a vampire. I don't need a tan if I'm on the beach at night :(
Carl, I think I stumbled upon something interesting in the game that I can't find any word about online. So, long story short, I always play peaceful sims (key note, I would never select a mean or mischievous interaction, thus the algorithm never auto selected the interactions on full autonomy). Then I decided that I was done being bored and wanted to create an evil sim on it's own save. Evil sim would autonomously do good things, until I forced it into always doing mean actions (yeah, it even had the evil trait, so idk). THE TWIST: when I went back to my other games, again different worlds of their own, now the system is having all of my sims act more evil, no matter how nice they are. POINT: I think the game has an algorithm in it that notes what interactions the user selects and then tries to incorporate the into autonomy, which is fine, but it doesn't keep it with that sim. So I can't create a world in which Mother Theresa is 100% a good person and another completely different file and world in which something like Lucifer/Satan/Karen exists WITHOUT the game making Mother Theresa in her game, on her own, likely to have evil interactions with everyone simply because I have a completely different file and world for karen to destroy. TL;DR> the autonomy it creates is based off of ALL INTERACTIONS the user chooses in ALL FILES. Autonomy is based on the user, not the sim. So the more variety you usually play with for sims interactions, the more random the autonomous actions are overall in the game. There's just so much wrong from quick decisions, half executed, poorly researched users, and abandoned things left for dead but not removed or fixed enough to abandon. Just thought I'd share this with you. And sorry to hear about Pam. Remember that the community is here to support in any way we can. Take time to mourn and find peace, we'll still be here :)

re. sims not needing any sim friends - reminds me of how in sims 2 you'd need to make friends in order to progress in your career. it made sense since irl (most of the time) it's easier to get to the top with connections. the issue was that it was so hard to make and keep friends in ts2 😂
As usual, there’s a mod for that now which overhauls careers so that some of them have a friend requirement (e.g. Politician - makes sense). But I don’t like having to make 15 friends in TS2 to become a doctor or whatever so I always mod that out! I prefer my loner Sims! 🤪
In sims 1 you had to have so many friends that I had to have one person spend their days making friends so the sim with the job could get promotions. Trust me, that wasn't fun.
Carl’s voice is so soothing
The seating (musical chairs) and social interactions are the two worst aspects of the game for me. I tell a Sim to grab a meal out of the fridge and rather than eat at the dining room, they beeline to the basement where another is working on furniture crafting. You can order them to sit at a particular spot after grabbing the food, but they'll only recognize it after they've completed the previous action. Glasses and mugs are especially bad because they'll drop everything to place them on a far away coffee table. It's frustrating how Sims always need to be near one another, especially when you have Loners or kids with the Distant trait - I want my Loner to sit in an isolated section of the library, but nope, he has to climb two flights of stairs to read next to a stranger. It's also annoying how the game will randomly spawn an NPC on the map that will immediately chat up a conversation for absolute no discernible reason. The game's social pie menus are an absolute mess with the more useful (well, less useless) options like Get to Know set at the bottom while garbage like Ask if Mermaid cemented on the top. The problem grows worse as your Sim develops skills or earns new traits, and after a while socializing becomes a tedious nightmare - most of the unlocked options do nothing but show new word bubbles. I'm glad you shared that photography trick because that'll be much more efficient than navigating through five menus over and over again. Sims 3 did it right with more options per menu and better organization. Adding to your list, I'd throw in candle making, which is a massive waste of time. It takes hours to craft one candle that might last 12 hours if it's exceptional and you have to manually replace them (including setting them to auto off or on). In the time that takes, you could just harvest a whole neighborhood and outfit your entire house with build mode candles that never have to be replaced. My condolences for Pam. Know that you two made something very important for us old school Sims fans, and I'm glad to see you continue the good work.
I totally agree with you! I’ll send my sim on a date and other sims start chatting with the ones on the date and you can’t get them to leave. And the date ends up being a bad one because of it
The worst one is when you try to introduce yourself to multiple sims on the same map. You sim will walk over to sim number 1, then will shop their queue and chat with them non stop. Then you cancel that, walk over to the next sim. But while it's cancelling the sim will just sit there for 2 hours in game time doing nothing. Then your sim will eventually walk over to the other person. Stop, then the other sim will walk to the opposite side of the map and because the action took too long it'll cancel. So you set it up again only for your sim to slowly walk over to the other side of the map to go say hi.
@@Stettafire Going back to Sims 3, it feels weird how responsive and quick everything is: as if video games should work instead of being unnecessarily frustrating.
6:32 There's another exploit you can use using the holiday system. When you make a holiday with the thankful spirit tradition you can repeatedly send a thank you card to any sim you want and build a friendship with them in the span of a few minutes.

When I play my family, if I have a teen sim and a child sim, and the child sim ages up while the other is still a teen. It's all in my head but they just look younger to me. But that's just pretend

She was a huge impact in the Sims world and I used to check every Sims update she made when I was younger before buying packs or any time I had issues. She will be missed. Its hard to describe the moment of childhood to teen memories that flashed in my mind, but it told me a lot about the impact of the Sims and everyone in the community that made it a pleasure to play for so much of my life. I sincerely wish all of her friends and family members strength and peace in these trying times. Rest in Peace Pam, thank you for everything.

I get that a lot of people don't like whims and this was before I even realised they were broken, but it gets annoying when things don't get improved on because of the majority, and The Sims team doesn't investigate why the majority has an issue, instead leave things as is. I love the whims system because the first sim day is boring as hell. You create a sim, move them into a lot, get them a job then nothing until the next day when things pick up. The whims make it easier for me do something with my sim especially since I personally HATE the loading screen so it's highly unlikely I'd make my sim travel anywhere the first day. The team really needs to take a break from producing DLC's and fix everything about the existing game.
omg the "hug a bug" feature is something i need in my life. if sims 4 wasnt expensive garbage id buy the extension just for that.

Which feels very similar to the Whims Situation. No, Simmers don't not use Whims or not play with families because they're not interested in them. We don't play with them because they're either broken or because there is little to do to begin with.
Simmers don't play with families... So why parenthood pack? Why the tonnes of legacy playthroughs on youtube? Families are and have always been a core part of the sims!
URGH. The whims thing!! It's bothered me for YEARS now, and I never really could articulate why. TS4 Sims have no personality at all, and whims were the closest thing they had to a basic personality (you know, on the whole Disney musical I Want song level)... small wonder the game felt hollow from so early on. It is pointless when the Sims are all alike, and Fine, and so easily made happy by all the same things. There's no conflict, no struggle, no stakes, no point in the Sims themselves in TS4. I've been playing the series from the beginning and TS4 is such a let down in the actual life sim aspect - the build mode is gorgeous and innovative, but the actual simulation? It's got the depth of an empty candy wrapper.
They are sims not people

I'd like more whims (and never noticed they stopped after a set pack). I'd also like other supernatural Sims (Ok just Death seeing as Father winter is already there) give a buff or something if you have a kid/kids with them. Also it's kind of like it went like this: Maxis 1: People don't like whims. Wonder if we could do anything to help that? Maxis 2: There broken. We 'could' fix them but people don't like them so lets just leave them alone Maxis 1: Ok.
Yeah, you'd think they definitely would have put 'Reaper's Child' or something, since romancing Death has always been a thing in the Sims community. (Or at least adding it to the base game at the same time as Seasons when they added the Father Winter's baby version!)

im a total sims casual and was pretty much only attracted to sims 4 bc of CAS and have spent very little time actually playing the game outside of making sims, but im really enjoying this channel anyways. :)
