This is what What Car is all about, no fuss, no gimmicks, just high quality, informative, well produced and presented video. Great review, great car.
Dimensions are in fact very similar to Audi Q2 except for wheelbase which is 20mm less. People buy Lexus for built quality, customer service and reliability. If you wish to own/lease a car that is likely to be unreliable in the long run then by all means get a VW/Audi/Evoque/Merc etc :) If you appreciate peerless reliability, low depreciation and easy resale after 10 years then get a Lexus and purchase it with cash!
Or just get the Toyota and save money and gain space.
I drive an Audi SQ2 and never had an Issue with mine.
That does not mean it comes close to Lexus quality, rather than the perceived "quality" z germans have long since fallen to.
I have been driving Lexus since 2001 before anyone knew who Lexus was !
@@jml9550 You financed , don't lie
I want the Morizo edition with the 1.6L G16E engine.
So do I, its the first time since I bought my MK5 GTI from new I wished to change it.
The Morizo Edition will be available in Europe as well, just like the GR Yaris, though with a little less horsepower than the Japanese version.
If they somehow update it to a hybrid setup that would be cool with the new auto gearbox in the new yaris gr
Putting the button functions in the head up display is actually really clever as it keeps your eyes on the road while you find the right button. And since they’re physical buttons, you don’t accidentally trigger them. Capacitive technology used to actually improve the experience instead of a distracting gimmick.
A very welcome increase on the interior and boot space available in the UX. Not really a family car, but perfect for a couple
The boot of a UX is a joke
BRILLIANT car! Smart looking and comfy. I will be buying one 😍
A nice detailed review as always. I like the vehicle a lot. Many buyers simply like a well finished, quality product so I don’t get the dressed up Toyota argument. Toyotas are mechanically sound, so no worries there.
Very good first reviews in the Netherlands, build and fit and finish real Lexus.
I think a lot of people going to complain about the very noisy engine when accelerating. Same as Yaris Cross.
Excellent review and filming, as usual!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent review, thank you. I'm tempted, but what is it like for long distance cruising? I have a Toyota Touring Sports, which is superb about town, but very disappointing on the motorway, especially because of road noise.
I agree with the verdict and I like it. Great review and awesome video editing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like it. I rarely have more than 2 in the car and rarely use the boot for more than groceries, so I'm less concerned by the practicality and ore about whether i like the look and feel, this looks nice (to my eyes).and the quality looks good. Also, when compared to an EV, the cost is good, you lose range amxiety too 😅
Had an EV for two years. Range anxiety is not a thing if you own one, it’s fine. Kia eNiro as you asked.
@devonbikefilms I certainly don't doubt you but, it's still a thing in my mind, that I can't shift. I imagine that in the relatively short future, range will improve massively and people like me will never have those thoughts.
@@decker0373 Toyota havre cracked solid state batteries and will have it in the market within a couple of years - 700 mile range 10 minutes to charge.
It has a 402 liter boot… thats really not small…
great straightforward presentation
Awesome review mate perhaps the best I have seen 👍 Well done keep up the great work champion. Can’t wait for these little gems to arrive in Australia 🇦🇺❤️
Thanks 👍
Very appealing indeed. I intend to give this thing a closer look when I can. Great job Lexus 👍
Very nice review with detailed explanations and different prices showed with many additional features. Good job 👍🏽. Now this is my dream car 🚗 ❤️
Had a 2020 RAV4 hybrid, comfy but terrible bouncy handling/road holding.....great hybrid but just couldn't get over that bulbous feeling, That's coming from my old Lexus GS300 MK2..... sublime but 20 years old. Bought a 2023 Toyota corolla hybrid estate with the mk 5 hybrid system. What a transformation , super economy, outstanding road control, terrific suspension damping and exceedingly quiet.....except when heavy on the go peddle. Totally chuffed with this purchase!!!??! Don't believe that that Lexus compares..... especially on space or price and the Toyota corolla quality is top notch!!!!! Can fit 4 adults ,luggage and a dog in here,in comfort and it doesn't drive any different than when only 2 in it !!!!!!!!!!
Are you an Uber driver? lol.
It is good news that in the new interior design, there is no trace of the monitor above the dashboard. The top of the dashboard should be empty and the monitor should fit inside the dashboard.
Love that yellow coat!
Hello there. Which bi tone color combination do you think goes better with the LBX? Sitting on the fence between sonic white (pearl) with black roof or the sonic copper with the black roof. What do you think? This is highly appreciated. Btw your review was excellent!
Wonderful video. Well made and pleasantly presented. Well done. Compared with Honda Civic 2024 Saloon which gives a better value please ? Thank you.
It's very good looking inside and out.❤
Is the paddle shift behind the wheel that u can change gear instantly ?
A cvt doesn’t have gears
its on my list of potentials... but would you suggest the Urban version of the LBX or the Excel version of the Yaris Cross (budget is ~£30k)... my short list is rather long and has all the usual suspects on it
I recently drove the Yaris Cross and found it decent. It just wasnt as quite on the road as I would have expected. In saying that all the features you get for sub £30k is impressive
Hi, random internet person here, I have a Yaris Cross in the Premiere trim and was looking at the LBX as a change in the next few months. My only gripe with the Yaris is the engine, it goes like a stabbed rat up to about 40 mph but then quickly runs out of puff. If the LBX had been significantly more powerful I'd be interested but a second off the 0-60 isn't much of an improvement. I'd look at the Yaris tbh or wait a bit, I think Toyota is refreshing the Yaris with a bigger engine model this year which I'm more interested in. Anyway just my 2 pence! Have fun choosing 🙂
It's a pity it's not coming to the US. Nice car.
I really like this, I had a look on the website and with a £1k deposit, the mid trim premium plus design on 10k miles a year is £796 a month 😢
Great car, fair review. Interesting it shares a lot and compares to Yaris Cross, based on quality and appeal I wonder if it is more competitive/comparable to the new Toyota C-HR?
I think lots of people will compare the two, this is smaller though.
What an impressive vehicle! Lexus has truly excelled in designing cars that maneuver smoothly through small streets and tight spaces. Renowned globally for its top-tier luxury, Lexus has embarked on an incredible journey, achieving numerous awards and accolades over the decades.
What’s the mpg ? I must have missed that in the video
Around 60mpg
Seems odd to have the 2024 car of the year in the middle of January
It's car of the year within the last year. So Jan 2023 - Jan 2024
@@bassicuk1986 yeah I thought as much, but it implies it’d wholly include cars relating to 2024, which is why I find it odd
It IS 2024 if you haven't noticed
@@ekimandersom4478 haha good joke 👍🏻
Nice, vehicle 👌, does what it says on the tin & super reliable/economy.
Great video and a great car also
A good review. Seems as is the LBX is a bit better than a Yaris that seems to say it all. Excels in very little apart from historical reliability. Think the short wheelbase compromises interior space and the boot is not up to scratch. But as I said a good review if you are choosing between a Toyota and a Lexus.
So what's the difference between the LBX and the UX? I really wish they would release an alternative to the CT 500 hatchback from back in the day - a small car (not SUV) for single people. But with all this snow here, maybe an AWD small SUV is the better choice, unfortunately...
This is smaller than the UX. both the LBX and UX come with AWD on some versions.
The UX will get a huge overhaul this year, new engine, new interior etc , the current one cannot be ordered anymore. Then this LBX will be a step under the UX
Awesome review
Thanks!
I shall replace my early Yaris Cross for a LBX ..it addresses the main points I would like upgraded.
Please do comparison this car with Peugeot 2008
Looks good I've always said, y not luxury small cars? Ty Lexus, waiting for the conversation of Yaris hatch.
Is this the size of 2006 crv?
Looks like a nice city car. I cannot believe that Lexus still has not got round to implementing wireless Android support, when Dacia have had it for over a year now.
Good review. It does look nice, and economy in the 60s is impressive. But car of the year? Already? I don’t see how it’s ’moved the game on’. Just a nice little SUV from what I can see here
I agree. Also, the CVT transmissions are awful.
not a belt driven transmission- voodoo magic planetary gear drive, a fact that many don't appreciate@@whome1615
Looks great but the back seats seem to give less legroom than my current car, a Suzuki Ignis!
Where does this sit in the range v the UX ?
I believe the LBX replaced the CT200h compact!
Under the UX obviously
@@ekimandersom4478 Far from obvious from the review
I wonder if they do this car in that Lexus bronze colour... Hmm. Gonna have to check it out. Looks great.
nice video i love to test all electric cars in a town and in a city
3:21 For these reviews to have any credibility you should show how easy ( or difficult) it is to operate the touch screen without taking your eyes off the road while driving NOT when the vehicle is stationary. The head up display can replace the distracting central touch screen for key functions when driving and should be emphasised more
I tend to zone out when the reviewer is looking at the in car tech. I want to know how well it drives and how practical it is.
Mate, most of the video is that. Just skip ahead 30 seconds. You can do it 💪🏻
Perfect for me as I tend to travel alone in town driving to and from work etc. The only thing is that it looks a little too low as compared to other SUV and I don't think my knees can hold up to that.
Whats the cost of battery replacement?
£2.99
No need
Wish we got it in the US.
This car is coming to Australia. For us it might be a choice between this car and a Honda HRV hybrid. I’d imagine the price of these two cars will be around the same price, just under $50k in Australia. The interior of the Honda and the back seats are really nice and high quality. It might come down to the Honda having a 4 cylinder engine while this Lexus has a 3 cylinder engine.
Very nice car and luxury
Say it with me - "If I want to save money, I will never buy a new car instead buy a 3-5 year old car"
But, but, but...!
Question I have is why Lexus offer Wireless Android Auto in other markets but not in the UK.
I'm envious of the cool small, fun - practical - SUVs and hatchbacks that you get in the UK and Europe - we get absurd, gigantic trucks that no one needs.
great plate!
Great review. Looks similar to the Nissan Kicks. Unfortunately, it is not coming to USA because we have been very naughty and must first atone.
Most of you are too fat so fit in this
Damn that gr yaris sounds good pls make it,love that engine but hate the rear end of the gr yaris.
I wonder if any of the trims get an upgraded Mark Levinson system from the standard audio set up. Toyota surely know how to stick with a winning formula
Yes Levinson can be ordered on the top trim
Great review and quality car. Just don’t understand why every car has to be an SUV these days.
Call it a tall hatchback...very few crossovers are SUV based
@@mj8495 OK, so why do hatchbacks have to be taller and heavier and more expensive these days when they could be shorter and lighter and cheaper?
Because that is what sells the best. Pretty obvious dude
I so agree with this choice. And it coincides with ad revenue needs
Too bad we don’t have this car in Canada 😢
Nice looking car but that CVT transmission is the same as in the new Toyota Corolla, it's awful, like driving a 1980 escort 1100 with a slipping clutch, as said in the review it's at home on light throttle around town but on a cross country drive with a few medium hills that drone from the engine is not a pleasant sound every time you give it a little throttle. It's also sluggish pulling out when you need to be quick.
You don’t drive it properly then.
That Ferrari f8 at the beginning 👌
Why?
Nice car how does this compare with the Mazda CX30?
The CX-30 is a big C segment product without a full hybrid option. Still a great car though.
@@jdmguy44 this might be the best hybrid option however the Volvo EX-30 electric is what I would choose in terms of design and quality
@@funkyfragrancelover2979 I wouldn't bet on a Volvo of today being anything great in quality terms. Basically Chinese laptop computers. Very different from Volvo's of old. Unfortunately, they also seem to emulate Tesla when it comes to interior design with huge screens and a complete absence of physical buttons. Not good.
@@jdmguy44either way this car ain’t great for A road or motorway driving it’s niche market is city driving and an expensive one considering it’s cramped interior. If I had the money I would opt for the Honda Civic Hybrid, more practical and more of a drivers car.
The only thing I dislike is the slightly elongated front typical of Lexus, it kills the vehicle proportions from the side.
Pity for the little room in the back. Otherwise they have almost squared the circle.
Ngl the rear tail lights remind me of a Renault Megane or Koleos
Best new car released in the past twelve months......How much does it cost? It's a beautiful little SUV. I love the interior of this car.
Can I get an opening sunroof?
Looks nice
I love this car hope One day i can afford it ❤
Beautiful car
This looks to be a good car, albeit it has its limitations. But, What Car if the Year, I think not.😎
Not many very exciting cars arrived in 2023.
If you don’t agree, start your own awards where you decide.
@@kdegraa So I can't have an opinion, what!
@@highmoorash7638 of course you can and do have your own opinion.
.@@kdegraa That was it..................
Beautiful ❤❤
Seems to be a really good car. Sadly despite all the luxury Features there is no powerroof available.
Or a Q3 Sportback?
I'm glad it has bucket seat with a separate head rest. I hate those SUV with molded headrests. SUV are not sports cars which is the only place for that type of seat.
I have planned to buy GWM ,
I hope this vehicle comes to America
SIMPLY CLEVER :)
This looks a lot better than all the North American Lexuses, with their overly-busy creases and angles everywhere (Toyota's awkward attempt at "excitement!").
Is it not a bit early in the year to be awarding a 2024 What Car of the Year award?
Based on it's dimensions, this is a hatchback along with the Ford Puma, Vauxhall Mokka, Fiat 600e, Jeep Avenger, & the Lexus UX
This is perhaps a marmite car as some reviews say it's excellent 5/5 and others give it a mediocre 3/5 verdict. Complaints are no room in back and doesn't feel special. Too expensive. But in another magazine it beat the Toyota CHR. I guess the best option is to try it out for yourself. If you're mostly traveling with 2 people or 4 with kids who are not fully grown it'll do fine. Reliability and after care should be strong
It's a rather confusing car this.. In my country, the cost is almost the same as a UX, so why choose a car that is slower and has the least space? I thought CT200h was pointless enough, and now this?
Maybe because the UX is ugly as fuck
Rear seat space is a bit stupid for an “suv”.
Nice to drive Lexus
The Range Rover Evoque should float my boat, small luxury and able to handle me being a nob with it off road. However its too big and unreliable with a silly interior. This fixes all the issues I have with the Evoque.... Sign me up!
I can atest that the Yaris cross was for me flat and boring. Good mpg but thats it.
We're just 24 days into 2024 and you've already announced your Car of the Year?
Even a compact SUV should give you an elevated driving position so that’s disappointing.
why do people rave about cup holders on a £30000 car ffs
I hate the Range Rover Evoque - but its a bit of a stretch trying to compare them ...
Have to agree. A lot bigger
Yes because the Lexus will not break down every week. I had an Evoque a could of years ago - worst car I have ever had, utter garbage.
True especially with lexus reliability and built quality
I probably missed a phrase specifying what gas (petrol, sorry guy (bloke)) given the requirements of other Lexus models. I looked it up. So can you!
It’s not cheap when you think of it the rivals you mentioned q2/troc are based off a golf (small hatchback) this is based on a supermini(Yaris)
Well, first, it's based "on", not "off", also the VW Golf is considered a small family car and finally, because this is all of the time you are getting from me, IT IS A LEXUS. It was never, ever meant to look, feel or be CHEAP. Cheap however is YOU, both in thought and in words.
@@HIOP0 did you get up on the wrong side of the bed mate?
@@aerox69x Truly, the dumbed down education standard is perfectly manifesting inside your empty head. Do try next time to begin sentences with a capital letter. If you have not yet mastered the English alphabet, there are 26 letters, consisting of both vowels and consenants... oh dear, not keeping up, are you? I am not your "mate", in any sense of that word and much sympathy is extended to those who do find themselves trapped in those wholly unsavoury situations. Hope that helps, blockhead.
The Yaris and Corolla are more closely related than the Polo and Golf are.
I am a massive Lexus fan and this is far superior than any other brand.
Gosh my Niro Ev is so much bigger in the back seat and boot is much bigger to , although that didn't even get a mention 😳
Bigger car is bigger inside is not a relevant headline.
Am I the last person on earth who doesn’t want an suv or crossover. A small hatchback please . You’ve guessed I’m old .
The main thing that lets it down is the transmission
