It’s nearly 100 days to go until the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the Olympic flame has been lit.
The ceremony takes place in Greece’s ancient Olympia, where the first Olympic Games were held in 776 BC.
The torch will first travel 3,000 miles through Greece, before crossing the Mediterranean to France in May on the three-masted ship Belem. It then will travel through France and its overseas territories before arriving in Paris for the start of the games in July.

Dear BBC. You need a retractable banner for your news items.
Why. Is it because your oled tv is burning in. Aha ha aha ha.
Fkn boomers I swear
That was indeed annoying
Banner ... 👀😩
They hiding the match sticks and gaslighter
Nice news banner blocking the actual important part of the picture.
The news banner exists for a good reason don't blame it
@@underarmbowlingincidentof1981 Could then not have had it overhead instead of blocking the women and the flame?
@@alextclulz Fr. Just like how they did that Olympia banner on the top left corner
As a Greek I boast with pride and get electrified by this ceremony connecting our ancient roots with the modern era. The message is simple: Let peace in the world, even for a while and let’s compete each other and may the best win!! Good luck to the hosting city Paris and to all contestants!! Thank you for the honor!! Greetings from Athens Greece 🇬🇷
And the genetics just proved that you're the same people you've always been, you're still the Mycenians! I'm Irish, one of the other few ethnic groups that are still around from the very ancient times! watching this is just incredible, you have an incredibly Rich heritage wow nothing like a heritage that changed the entire world
So, if you are that electrified I guess you already dropped Christianity and started praying to Zeus, Athena et al. You fall for whatever idiocy they put on a screen.
@@adrianomorenoweinstein9620 wow you're a really rude and disrespectful person there's absolutely no empirical evidence support Christianity either all the claims of the Bible are getting disproven the archeology is like falling apart
@@adrianomorenoweinstein9620nice bait lol
@adrianomorenoweinstein9620 everything is symbolic and representations, everyone believes in what he wants! But the only thing we have to believe in, is the ideals that this flame carries and the ancient Greek spirit. I wish peace all over the world!
Gotta love that massive banner taking up almost half of the bloody screen
❤from US 😂 Fr, banners do NOT need to be that big
It's the news. Banners are always that big
@@ronero_urvanwar no they’re not.
@@charlietheepicgamer They are in the UK. Every live news channel has a big banner on the bottom with the time and scrolling headlines. KZhead videos are just pulled from TV.
One of the most important ceremonies in the history of the world. Wish we didn’t have a huge banner in the middle of it, it was still phenomenal to see though.
My husband is going to be one of the torch bearers, and I can not believe it!!!
Wow 🎉
@@Juststayhopeful thank you 😊
Ooh, how was he noticed
hopefully the BBC doesnt cover it or else no one will get to see him with it
Billions around the world also can't believe it. Or you
Ancient Spirit Immortal... ...." Its great to come from Greece, the country that gave light to the world..."
Does your banner really need to be THAT big?
tis BBC - what do you expect!?
Yes...anything that would tarnish Hellas (Greece) has to be big. So disrespectful for this hugely important occasion.
It's the news. There's always a banner.
BBC's big banner was bad enough, but then you had the announcer yapping the whole time and doing a play-by-play on something that was very very obvious.
glad we got to see it all. thanks BBC for covering half of it up with a useless banner
Epic fail bbc with the banner and you didn't include subtitles so we could understand what she was saying. You should be banned from youtube for this.
I will try to translate it myself as I can... (I hope it makes sence, Im not an English native speaker) "Sacred silence may "sound" in the whole univerce. Earth, sea, and breaths of the winds; mountains and valleys, make silence! Sounds and chirpings of birds, stop! Because Foivos, the king of the light is going to be with us. (yes its kinda pagan) Apollo, god of the sun and light, you sent your rays and lit the torch for the welcoming city of Paris. You, Zeus, give peace to all the nations of the world, and crown (with a wreath) the winners of the holy race/game"
@@stelios5314 Thank you, greatly appreciated.
@@Steve65065 You're welcome
Does no one at BBC see how annoying that red banner is? !!!
The sun will never set on the British Broadcasting Chyron.
Lol
Very beatiful Olympic flame ,at city Olympia - Religion Hleia. Iam proud my country Greece 🇬🇷 she is born Olympic Games.
I feel very proud of my Greek heritage as I watch this ceremony! ❤
Would be better if there wasn't a great big red stripe across the screen
I can't read it, make the banner bigger pls BBC
😂😂
Very beautiful lovely ceremony but banner obscured the crucial lighting of the flame
Gold medal for the beautiful dresses.
They are hideous! Not suitable for the magnitudε of this particular occasion. Women in ancient times were wearing sleevless dresses but not strapless.
@@whitegardenia3813 You prefer burlap?
They are awful. Look at the 2016 ceremony for comparison.
thank you for not showing me the full show... great job !
BBC English lesson - Idiom of the day: Red Tape
❤ it is a symbol of peace and harmony
I love the Greek people, because no human race has contributed to the civilization of humanity than the Greek people. The Greek people didn't ask us anything for return of their immense contributions. Above all, Greek is poor country economically, but the people Greek never complained. I always would like to do something for Greek people. I will always love you until the day I die. Thank you the people of Greek for your wise contributions to humanity.
Dafuq???...bot overload
What on Earth are you talking about, I wont even get into the factual errors
@@dxubty individuals like you has no clue of history I won't waste time to explain for ignorant.
you completely forgot the importance of Indian & Chinese histories along with your Greek history... Very Western move... The Greeks always were in collaboration with the people of Indos since the battle of Hydapases by Alexander ...
@@shubhankardasgupta4777 those who wiped out philosophers would like to hide the truth. Those racists who look at themselves above everyone don't want to hear gratitude of the real people who gave humanity Democracy, Philosophy, Olympics etc... .
Beautiful Historique The red strip on screen though ... 😊
Really? Banner over the entire thing? No captions? Seriously?
Omit the banner entierly. Only show at the beginning!
This is clipped from a to broadcast so it follows the BBC’s standards for tv, not KZhead.
Terrible placement of your lower third banner. It blocks most of the action throughout the ceremony.
So, what happened to the parabolic mirror? Was it indeed a parabolic mirror or just a drum? And what good is a parabolic mirror on an overcast day anyway? The parabolic mirror was on a stand nearby, but was mostly covered by the red BBC banner across the screen.
They said the mirror was used a few hours before the ceremony to light the flame in advance , because the weather conditions (cloudy) wouldnt allow the flame to light during the ceremony.
Usually it’s done by Apollo by the mirror. Look for example for the 2016 ceremony. But it was apparently too clouded this time.
Gee this huge banner is so annoying.
The actress with the Light in the video playes in the greek tv serial . Talented and beloved one😘😘♥
this gives me a respite and probably hope against the recent and continuing news about war, hunger, and famine, everywhere
So pleased that all civilised nations will stop their wars until after the Olympic games!
good thing there are no wars happening!! only armed conflicts, special military operations, and ongoing developing situations
Remove the banner now
The backup flame! I need some of that! But that banner!
It's awesome 🥇🥈🥉
news banner is tooooo big ..so we cant see the thing properly....
BBC News banner is a no-no.
Historic.
wonder how long those people/statues have to stand there. reporter whispering like at a golf tournament.
Thank God the Olympics is on its way. The world seriously needs some inspiring together-time right now.
Möge es Frieden bringen 🔥🕊🇬🇷🕊🔥🌎
Not authentic. They used to be naked.
Not the women!
Only while competing.
One BBC to rule them all.
BBC.... please make your banner much bigger next time. Thanks.
❤🇬🇷
I am joining the comments about how ridiculous and annoying mistake that red banner is, and how incredible it is that no one at BBC saw it
there's a sea of blood on the screen
Hail den Göttern und Göttinnen des Olymp
Beautiful Tnx 😊
I had a good time!
BBC havent you heard of a watermark?😂
What was this nice lady talkin about in the end?
Omg this freakin banner ! Why bbc
Watched a red banner for 11 minutes
i'm so lost. WHEN does it actually happen? I saw woman with no flame walking and then suddenly people standing in different positions already flame in hand. Did they cut it?
Let the weird rituals begin.
BBC news banner was blocking the most important parts of the great event
As a Greek, this news banner is at least disrespectful. Do you realise this is an ancient ritual that represents the purest form of the human being? I would say the same thing if a Greek channel did the same with the British royal family for example, I would find it disrespectful if I could only see their foreheads
Translation in caption and Lise the red banner.
ahhh a very good red banner....
If anyone is wondering, all those amv3 comments are from bots for amazons crypto, even if it looks like a real account, it is not. Weird way to market it.
How does it market it? I had no idea to what it meant. Just a stunt?
The banner size really does near a parody of a news broadcast. 😅
Greek Godess 😍
They are priestess of temple of Hera. You are not listening
Who's running the graphics dept. at the news. It's happening to all news networks right now.
It's the Olympic flame! It's not a sacred flame! Remove the red banner BBC! People want to watch!
First the fire of the torch has to be brought from Delphli / the Pythic games to Olympia - you forgot
Horrible banner. I wonder if BBC staff watched their own news
Normally, Apollo lights the flame with the paranoloc mirror and the sun. This Olympics, your flame is brought to you by Bic
Please remove that banner!
new game new fun
For the Next Olympic, please cover the whole screen with ur banner.
Are their arms Ok?
Gorgeous ceremony as always! Well done Hellas! Hideous clothes, though, that have nothing to do with Ancient Hellas (Greece).
why the fack that huge red banner across the screen... LOL
what happens if it rains? do they go around with an umbrella?
In Greece the weather is not constantly changeable. So if it is going to rain, it is known days before.
Very bad work Why the banner cover the moment It’s was faked didn’t the sun light enough to light the torch Disappointed😢😢😢😢
Aren't those flame carrier supposed to be naked as a symbol of pure ?
Please remove red banner
In the XX century dresses of greek women, which took part in this ceremony, were snow-White! ❤
Damn. Them Greek girls are pretty
did the commentator have to blather on the entire time? and the banner, omg!
Absolutely appalling placement of the oversized and ridiculous banner! Get your act together BBC, ..and I’m normally a die-hard fan.
Did someone not tell the high priestesses to hold the torch in front of the mirror?
Non sense it has nothing to do with it
why no man
❤
Trust me, you didn't miss much.
The dress is cringe though. A printed Greek column? It would've been better if they took in some inspiration from the first written history of the clothing such as the materials and how the silhouette of their dresses be. At least the materials would also be natural, and give artisans a job and chance to showcase their own interpretation of the clothes back then.
Θα συμφωνήσω. Η τελετη οφειλει να ειναι αυθεντικη και λιτη. Δεν ειναι η τελετη της εναρξης για να στοχευουμε στο θεαμα και τις εντυπωσεις.
The Olympics are a joke now & have been for years with all the ridiculous sports surfing, BMX skateboarding, climbing only to mention a few, having professional athletes in the Olympics is wrong the Olympics were supposed to be for amateur athletes years ago people had their medals taken off them for making money in their sport, but of course it comes down to the Almighty $, & in 2028 there is going to be cricket, lacrosse, squash ridiculous
Ah, Grandpa is sundowning again.
"AEUC" should not be called IOC, don't humiliate the Greek gods
Yunan ❤
interpreting while staying at bed
I wish there was something more eventful happening in makeup and hair departments, as someone attempted to achieve something with the dresses
🥰🥰🥰
im glad they used pure blooded greece instead diverse and blacks
Stupid broadcast...
Where is all the talk about AMV33X coming from? It is everywhere and in each comment section
lmao their flames is so tiny
Wtf why are there so many bots in the comments 🦅🔥
