When Doc said he's a time traveler, I believed him.
I loved how no one said It wasnt true. Totally respectful
@@Budapestpatiypami maybe it is true. arent we all time travellers? i mean are we really the same we were a moment ago? think about it, bro 😂
Doctor Emmet Brown.
His time machine just passes time regularly
He is the 19th regeneration of The Doctor, just taking a little break in New York City to work on his chess game across a few thousand years. The Tardis is probably just tucked a few blocks away. Obviously the proof is when you look up all the photos of him over the decades playing chess in the park he never changes age...and is almost always wearing the same outfit.
I just love the energy of this man. This is the kind of wisdom you only get from a random man in a park. And the mysterious man who goes by "doctor" claiming to be a time traveler just showing up and leaving again what the fuck is going on here lol
He's a timelord obviously
Parklife!!!
NewYork is going on here 😅 I love it 🥰
Yes he's really wonderful! :)

His reaction is so heartwarming when he learns that she's a GM. I rewound it several times to enjoy it again. His childlike sense of wonder just brought me to tears. A million thanks to you and your mother for bringing us videos like this.
He actually was on the front of the New York Times on Tuesday, July 6th 2021
Knowing a GM personnaly myself, I totally understand his feelings and reaction. I always enjoy playing with this GM who is so humble and young without snobbing the normal average players
There are a lot of people who would have just said "i cant beat you" and given up. But this guy loves this game is is excited about meeting someone probably way better than him so he can learn more. Thats true passion.
I love it so much
i shed tears bro xD
"Whose the most famous person you've play?" "Maybe Karpov" *boss music starts playing*
I know, couldn't believe it when she said Karpov so casually. I was surprised though how little he reacted to that... Your Mom's so cool
Anna played Magnus carlsen
@@pputnam100 The uncle doesn't know who Karpov is
@@josephc.9520 I barely play chess, and I know who Karpov is. It's quite strange for someone who play chess regularly to not know the name of someone who was world champion for quite a while.

The Doctor stayed as long as he could; he so wished to be heard and valued, and his friend Johnny included him. Loved that
doctor straight went to another time.
This guy is like that one side character in a video game that is so unique and intriguing that you can't help but notice to have some deep lore behind him, connecting him to the main story.
More like Mud from Gothic.
Exactly my thought. He is like the best npc from Baldurs Gate or Cyberpunk 2077 that would make you completely forget about the main quest.
New Yorkers, in a nutshell!
2:06 I love his genuine smile when they told him he was a great teacher. And indeed! We should learn chess with people with his passion
I loved that too! You can tell he has a gentle and playful soul❤
The man is so passionate. He turns into a little kid again after he hears she's a grandmaster. It's so adorable and inspiring. ❤
I just wanna know, what’s in Johnny’s cup?
"Sense of Wonder"
Play is important, especially for adults. A lot of people forget that.
The secret is to never grow up. I'm still an excitable kid at 50. Keeps you young too.
@@felixjan8509 Pia Cramling is a GM. Her daughter isn't, but she is.
It always seems like Pia feels sorry for checkmating people, so funny 😅
She has the belief of not using her powers to trample over weaker people 😂
IKR!!
this girl at my chess club too - she's so much better than me - it's very funny because even though she always win she looks kinda sad haha
That's super Swedish, look up "Law of Jante" if you want to know more - it's deeply ingrained into the mentality of every Swedish person.
“Mmm yes, that is checkmate, poor thing”
His honest excitement when finding out and asking so politely for another game - that really moved me.

@@ZombieBacon13pretty much old people outside playing any game anywhere around the world.
I love how she was toying with him and prolonging the game so that he can actually play, lol. She could have gotten a checkmate sooo many times, lol. She's such a good sport.
isnt that disrespectful?
@@Domebuddy No. She's giving him chances and to learn from her/his moves. Then they played again and she slaughtered him.
@@midnull6009 I'd rather just get destroyed. Perhaps a handicap would be better.
@@Domebuddy it’s a teaching game where you offer a problem to show them how to properly deal with it I’d love to see a top chess player learn to play GO that anther interest bouts game
Johnny himself said that the social aspect was his favorite part of playing chess, and prolonging the game helped him to chat with her longer and get the 'fruit for the soul', as he said. She definitely made the right choice going a little bit easy, best move for all parties involved.
Quote of the year: "I'm a grandmaster at the social aspect. And this is the thing that this game gives birth to. It privileges me to meet people from all over the world, just like I did you. And that fruit settles in my soul. And makes me who I am today." - Johnny
❤❤❤
If you watched the other video before this you can see just how entertaining and well spoken he is
Even the guy wasn't the best player in the world (his words, compared to a GM) , this was a valuable lesson. Funny how you can pick up things from a simple chess video.
That was beautiful
Love this guy=very good person🙏
The guys passion is so infectious. The world needs more people like him.
Johnny's infectious joy when he discovered he was playing against a GM and the pleasure to play against her was a genuine thrill for him. Also, Doc is a time traveler, he knew exactly when the match was won, when to resign, and then moved on because he'd already seen the finish.
I feel like the competitive gaming community has a lot to learn from this guy. Doesnt matter whether its tabletop, wargame video games etc. He just enjoys the game, and the game itself is in the reward. Too many people just care only about the win to the point that nothing else matters and the fun gets lost. Win, lose or draw you know this guy has the time of his life.
I would play Johnny just to say I lost to johnny from NY... Losing to a GM would be awesome! Play for the game not the win.
No. HUMANS need to. Look at every sport that exists, competitive gaming isn't any different so I am not sure why you're singling them out.
It's something you grow into. When you're young you want to be the BEST at what you do - which will come as a big surprise to many, eventually, that you're not even that good. These days I *only* play games because I enjoy them. I don't care about being good or bad, those years are long gone.
@huldu A mate of mine was convinced he was the best at Tekken. The moment online gaming became a thing and he got his ass whopped online every single time it shut him up

We were no grandmasters, but I remember a guy I used to play with in college. We weren't friends outside of the game, but we played nearly every day over breakfast before class. He was far better than I was and enjoyed teaching me and watching me learn and grow as a player. I'll never forget the first - and only - time I managed to beat him. He was so pleased. Johnny's the best. Nobody could love chess more than he. He really knows the game, and gets massive enjoyment, win or lose. What more can you ask for in an opponent? This was a fun watch.

I notice over a few videos now, when someone tries to explain or guess what your mum is doing by moving a certain move, she usually says, "Yes, but..." and then comes two or three other things of bigger importance than the initial move of the piece we all just observed. Such a BOSS! 🙂
