We've had donkeys on our farm for generations. Not only are they wonderful companions, they are also very trainable as protection animals for sheep and cattle. I've seen a donkey dispatch full grown wolves and medium-sized black bears with ease. They are strong, quick, agile, and fearless. Very under appreciated creatures.
I saw three donkeys scare hell out of a moose much larger than they were.
donkey question: is there some sort of gland on their back that secretes something to cause that dark stripe down their side at the base of the mane?
You're very right. We had to give mine away because he kept trying to stomp my dogs especially my Bouvier and those dogs are no pushover.
We had a donkey growing up on our farm. Old Jack protected us from coyotes, rattlesnakes and even ran off a black bear. Watching that bear cry and run with Jack biting him hard on the butt still makes us laugh. I miss him. He was my best friend.

My grandpa had one, Pizza was the name. Beautiful animal. When my grandpa got old and couldn't care for Pizza, he tried to find the right person to give her to. It took a very long time but a kind gentleman came along and Pizza was possibly the happiest animal.

I watch a lot of baby goat videos (the hopping, jumping, & head butting is so cute!) and feel the same way.

I just feel the happiness, content and the LOVE that these animals have for their owners and you can see, that they're truly LOVED and HAPPY in their life. A refreshing change, but to be honest, no animal belongs indoors. Even we, if we still had to live outdoors together with all animals, we would appreciate them waaay more.

A lot of farmers in my area have them around to help protect there other animals. They have tractors to work the fields nowadays so the donkeys kinda lost there usefulness as a workhorse a while ago but most keep them with there cows or other livestock and let the donkeys bond with the other livestock and the donkeys will literally die fighting trying to keep there family safe from predators. I’m glad people are giving these wonderful animals the life they deserve after they gave so much for human civilization.

My neighbor got a new donkey about three months ago and said she wouldn't let him pet her. I walked up to the fence and started talking to her and she walked right up to me and let me pet her. He stood there with his mouth open. I said, you have to talk to her.😂

It's not love, it's affection and fondness. There's a difference. Love is something only humans can experience. Animals don't have brains developed enough to feel love.

I have a new found affection for donkeys. I always knew they were clever animals, but I’ve never seen them love being cuddled! They’re very much like dogs.

The best video I've ever seen! I had a small burro named Jenny from the time I was 9 until I left home at 18. We were the same age and she was my very best friend. We took naps together in the yard all the time. My dad and I were the only ones who could ride her, but it was funny to see other family members try to ride when we had family get-togethers at our lake. She would start running and then stop really quickly, put her head down, and the riders would come flying off. She will always be missed and in my heart.

They need companions, are very intelligent, playful and good “watch” animals. They can drop a coyote or dog with a kick and inflict serious bites. And as you can see they can love their people. There’s a lot to a donkey!
They most definitly work as a Cayote deterrent, and they pack a punch.
I can’t love this more than I do. I just befriended a donkey recently and I didn’t realize how wonderful these animals truly are…fabulous personalities and expressions! ❤

Baby donkeys are so loving and cute. Once they accept you as a friend they never forget you. You can be gone for over 10 years and when you come back and go out to where they are you can call them and they will race over to see you and you can tell they know you and will show you they care about you. Wonderful animals.
