The doberman pinscher is a relatively young breed, roughly 125 years old. Created by Louis Doberman in the 1890s, the Doberman Pinscher was intended to be a personal protection dog. The breed is considered the perfect combination of strength, intelligence, loyalty and ferocity. If you are considering a doberman pinscher as your next pet here are five things you should know.
In creating the Doberman Pinscher, Louis Doberman used a lot of different breeds. But because Doberman didn’t keep great notes, it is impossible to know the exact formula for the Doberman Pinscher. Some breeds believed to be in the creation of the breed are the Rottweiler, German Short Haired Pointer, Weimaraner, Manchester Terrier, Beauceron, Great Dane, Black and Tan Terrier, and the Greyhound.
The Doberman Pinscher is an extremely athletic and intelligent breed. They are actually ranked as the fifth smartest dog breed. Like most high drive and intelligent breeds, finding a job for your dog is essential. No job is too much for a doberman, police work, scent tracking, coursing, search and rescue, therapy and guiding the blind are all on the breed’s resume.
The doberman can live in an apartment, if given a considerable amount of outdoor exercise and socialization with people and dogs at an early age. However, the doberman is a very energetic bred, so a home with an average sized yard is more ideal for the breed.
Dobes are people oriented dogs. They are not suited for life in a kennel or left alone in the backyard. The breed needs human interaction, which mens consistent leadership. In the right home the doberman pinscher should be a loyal, tolerant, dedicated, and affectionate dog.
Because of more show breeding, breeders are moving them away from aggressive qualities. With that Dobermans are transitioning from guard dogs to companion dogs.
Be sure you know what type of Doberman you want companion or working, and choose a breeder who produces what you want. Either Doberman should be great with families and children, but only when correctly trained and socialized.
There you have it five things you need to know if you’re considering owning a Doberman Pinscher as your next pet.

  • I lost my boy about a month ago...he almost made it to 12 years old...now I find myself craving watching Dobe videos.....already have a name picked out for the next one but in honor of Max it will be a while. Dobes are extremely loyal. Max was always by my side....if I got up and went to another room in the house it wasn't long till he found me wanting to be by my side. Only one time in his life did I witness him attack someone......a man opened up our front door one morning and just walked in. Before we could say anything Max tore into him. He knew this was a bad person. The guy stumbled out and left. We called the police and they said "Give the dog a bone"

  • Dobermann's have been my favorite breed ever since I got my first puppy when I was about 6yrs old. They're loyal in the extreme so much so that it's almost impossible to overstate just how loyal they actually are. For example, whenever I'd get sick or just wasn't feeling very good he would sit next to my bed about level with my face and just stare at me for hours on end. Only leaving once in a while to go get himself a few mouthfuls of food and some water. And then it was it right back to my bedside. And in terms of intelligence and protection, whenever someone he didn't know would come in the house. He would quietly hide behind the front door and wait for them close the door before he'd pounce on them damn near giving the person a heart attack in the process. And speaking of doors he also knew how to open them up by pawing at the doorknob. I still miss him even some 15ish years after I had to put him down out of mercy because he was just so damn old that he couldn't hardly even get around anymore. And in all honesty, I'm actually a little teary-eyed as I write this comment.

    • They won’t their not quick to make friends with strangers. They are companions to their close family not some guy who breaks your window with a baseball bat and crawls in your window. They’re very smart and know when something bad is about to happen!

      @mesozoicperiodvlogs8323@mesozoicperiodvlogs83234 жыл бұрын
    • Makes no sense. They won’t ever lose that they are dogs specific for personal protection. That’s what they’re bred for. Only if someone mixes them which happens all the time for any breed but the dobermans are for protection and loyal companion.

      @JD-dh3yn@JD-dh3yn3 жыл бұрын
    • Well I’d argue they aren’t losing it, American dobes tend to be bred for companionship and European dobes are used for protection work a lot more. Of course there’s exceptions to this rule :)

  • I've had two dobies and loved them both. My dad brought an older dobie home that had been trained to guard when I was in junior high and we quickly became best friends and she saved me from someone who tried to break in the house while I was alone. I will always be grateful to her. When I was out on my own I brought my second dobie home as a small puppy and he was also wonderful, we went to training together (His dad was a European dobie and him mom an American) He was with me for 13 wonderful years.

    • Kevish Fernando living with a Doberman is lined like this: if u have a real European bloodline working dog I would say it's not a beginner dog pretty tough dog to train but with proper training and patience in hand u will have a companion for a life time, always get ur dog at a early age around 8 weeks when u get a Doberman ur life is stuck to that dog from the beginning to the end which roughly is 12 years or more which is great if u love the dog and are prepared for it but if not it's not the dog for u the dog needs to be with u 24 hours each day ofc u can learn it to stay at home but the dog needs the owners attention most of the time stimulating walking the dog depends on various things such as Walking distances like 10 km per day or play around 2 hours each time the dog is out and so forth hopes it helps a bit many regard a proudly owner of a pretty female Doberman :)

    • Kevish Fernando I don’t cadre what the announcer said. I’ve been breeding these dogs for 15 years. They are NOT suitable for apartment living. I won’t seek my puppies to apartment dwellers period. Mine are bred for family protection and companions and even these quieter bred Dobes, there’s just no way. The ONLY case I’d consider is a working service dog that is on duty, such as a guide Dog or hearing detection Dog whose brain is 100% engages at every waking moment

I'm a college student so my dog would need to be able to be alone or with roommates for a few hours each day but after I would love taking my dog out and walking all over campus and to the park to run and play. I would love training a smart dog like this. I also like the fact that they would be able to provide protection if needed. For my specific circumstances would the doberman breed be a good match for me?

    • No, original Dobermann Pinscer was bred to be a personal protection dog. They were never intended to be pets - they need to have a job, they need to be with people who know how to treat them; and you will not have any problems. If your intent is let the dog wander about the house, with little or no responsibilities, is not socialized, is expected to 'baby sit' the kids and be subject to pokes, prodding, climbed on - do yourself (and the dog) a favor, don't get a Dobermann. If you need to have a houseful of business acquaintances, service people coming in and out of the house - while you are not home; don't get a Dobermann. Dobermanns tend to answer to its person and their close family - only...everyone else needs to be properly introduced. The Dobermann, in general, needs stability - they need to know where they stand, whats their "place" in the pack? Training, socialization and time spent with you are imperative. If they can't see you - then they will not be happy. This is why so many "working bred" Dobermann are subject to be re-homed withing the first 2 - 3 years...people buy the dog to impress their friends - without fully thinking it through - as always, its the dog that ends up catching the short end of the stick. Want a friendly "pet"; then get a Labrador or Golden Retriever, both are very smart, friendly, have great temperament, are some of the smartest dogs on the planet, great as service/therapy dogs(do not get a 'field' bred retriever, they are a whole other bred- they are working dogs) and make friends very easily.

  • This Breed is almost extinct in America due to breeder inbreeding, mixed breeding and non training by irresponsible owners. Please preserve the breed! Be responsible and maybe they will once again have the personality traits, natural protection and wellness of the Doberman 50 years ago, if we are lucky.

  • I'm an Akita guy but lately been looking at Dobermans. With my first Akita I was concerned about aggressive behavior and ended up with a well behaved dog with plenty of time put in training. All of the doberman videos discuss proper training but never make a video about specifics. I'm still on the fence with my choice.
