Personality varies with in the breed but a stoic and sometimes comedic loyal companion, is generally expected. • Hey Zeke, I would love to see a video about how certain dog breeds have changed over the years (good and bad) and what that means for owners & breeders. For example, how the quality in a lot of dobe lines began deteriorating and the amount of breeders who stay true to the breed are very limited due to the rise in popularity of the breed. Just a though, great vid as always.

  • Excellent video. My brother has always wanted a Doberman (might get him one down the road). I have a Manchester Terrier (Standard Manchester Terrier, as they are called in America), which is the Black and Tan Terrier (that was used in the early development of the Doberman). I really hope you are able to make videos on the Standard Manchester Terrier, or the German Pinscher (underrated guard dog that was once popular) or the might Airedale Terrier (historically used in military/police work). I constantly search the internet, but nothing is out there that is up to your standards and video quality. Keep up the wonderful videos!

I hadn't't known about all of the potential health issues and on the off chance that becomes a problem i'm not confident i'I'll be able to finance all the extra expenses for treating a bunch of later developed problems. These videos are really helping me learn and narrow down which dog breed is best for me. I love this youtube channel

  • I had a Dobbie too, He was super agressive with strangers and not very socializied (WE DIDN'T SOCALIZE HIM much I KNOW BAD) but he was the most loving dog ever for family, My little sister went into his small house and he never even growled at her or did anything he was extremely caring and so fourth. BUT after two years an yeast infection appeared near his testicles so we went to Vet asked what to use he gave us some kind of spray, First attempt one of my parents was holding his neck (just in case he reacts)and the other sprayed him, He did attack but fortunately one of my parents hold him, So i was suprised (14 years at the time) why he did it i kinda knew it might kinda hurt or something but he literally agressively attacked like a stranger so i kinda did tell my parents maybe use muzzle when you spray him so he doesn't bite they didn't after a week he bite dad on his arm since he was spraying after few hours we had no other options but to kill him.. (Eastern Europe) The Dobbie had an issue also with legs he had his staying on his rear legs like German Shepherd wich is unsual.. (His parents were fit and healthy) 1 year ago before our case a women did tell my parent at the VET how a Doberman attacked his father similar case infection on chest but unfortunately his father got bitten on its face, SHE SAID HER FATHER LOVED THAT DOBBIE with all his heart.. I have this questions why would it happend? I kinda realize sociliazing and training are needed and may be one of the reasons but still attacking ur owner (WHO NEVER ABUSED HIM) WE NEVER EVEN HIT HIM OR ANYTHING.

  • Got a question for anyone who is reading... Many years ago, we are talking about 30 years back my dad used to breed dobermans. Anyway i am now 40 and i remember them being very alert, very well behaved and not really into playing.. Whenever i am out and i see a doberman they are pretty much just like labradors, laid back, very friendly and just want to play. Also very dopey dizzy. They just do not seem the same...Has the breed changed or something?? cheers everyone.

    • Elliot A I think it depends on the breeder and the bloodline. I had a Doberman who was 95 lbs, and VERY protective. He was alert and usually on the lookout. He had a very loud, deep bark that would turn heads. A lot of smaller Dobermans usually result from not so good breeders who don’t take extra caution to ensure the breed’s lineage stays good.

    • Elliot A I just recently adopted a Doberman I was able to meet the mom and dad. I’ve noticed you have to really engage him to play. Maybe these new dogs are just being socialized early to be more friendly instead of strictly working

    • My Doberman is 3 now, I got him to be a protection dog for my elderly mother when she is home alone and was hoping he would gravitate towards her that didn't happen....When I'm not around he minds her and is by her side all day..but once I arrive he is all mine and will do whatever I tell him; he will still mind her...but when I say lets go he is right there and he is not dopey or dizzy at all and is very smart I take him out twice a day running and at night I will put him in the back seat of the car and change out his leash he is a ware of people walking down the sidewalk at all times, on many occasions he started to bark and sure enough someone was walking or running down the sidewalk he has my back so to speak...he would give up his life for me, I worried that I would end up with a freddy cat Doberman Nope, I took the runt of the litter his dad is about 100/110 pounds my Doberman is 81 pounds now...depends on the breeder...I hope you got your Doberman.

  • Interesting. I love all of your Doberman videos and hope for lots more lol! But I've actually heard quite the opposite among NA and Euro breeders alike about the stability of temperament between American and Euro dobies. Many American breeders will admit show lines (which run in the majority of American dobermans) tend to be pretty skittish compared to the sharper Euro because they're not bred to work or trained keep up with their initial purposes. "Sharper" meaning less likely to back down from a perceived threat, not more intelligent, just to clarify. Intelligence tends to be equal, but I can't stop hearing among breeders about how stable (although way more energetic and driven) the Euro is.

  • Preserve and protect this ones so noble breed. The Dobermann was created , just like you mention Zeke , from various different breeds. This genetic variety was such a benefit for the breed in the beginning years ,they were healthy, sound and trustworthy in temperament with most of the time a stable nervous system , fit for function and we could still recognize them as being a Dobermann. Approx the 1970 the breed was getting worse and worse because of massive in/over-breeding, the alarm bells are ringing for so many years, still cooperation and breeding with a long term management plan is not the goal for the majority. The breed is innocent and deserves to be around in the lifes with the ones who have knowledge and respect for history and try to understand the purpose and spirit of this breed. My wish for 2018 is that there will come a turning point and that we see more and more 'Dobermanniers'.....people who have no fear and not following the herd but just being down to earth and do what is necessary. Your heart knows what is right ! The breed needs a stable foundation without it nothing will help or has less meaning. Wishing you and your families all a inspiring Holiday and blessings for the breed we love.

  • I had both a rottweiler(female) and a doberman pinscher(male) at the same time when I was a kid. I was young so i had nothing to do with the training or dicepline. I remember them both as good pets. The only negative thing I have heard abouth them is that the doberman was extreemely high in energy during his "teens". My girlfriend has never had a dog before, and can be frightened by them.I understand that they are both working breeds, and that they need a job to do,and I`ll make shure they will be proper trained. If the choise was between rottweiler and doberman pinscher what would you recomend for my situation?

  • You should talk about the difference between the American breed vs the European breed. The American breed, tends to be thinner bones, smaller frame...this causes the American breed to have a smaller skull, one that is a bit too small for it's brain. This causes the temper the dog is known for. Also, most of the health issues you talked about are mostly found in the American breed, since in Europe, they breed all that out and do not allow those issues to continue in the breed. The European breed is stronger, and bigger bone and the skull is the proper size.
