What Joel says: Checklist What I hear: Czechlist ...can’t wait for my Mk3!
you are not alone.
Now I can't unhear that.
DANG IT, BRYAN.
Thank You Joel for the awesome vid!! You're making me want one!
I didn't watch one of your videos in a long time, and it's a shame, because you always provide good talking, nice editing and interesting stuff. Happy new year !
A co-worker recommended I look into this 3D printer for my very 1st printer. Loved watching your video, informational, yet a bit of comedy to add to the "reveal" of the printer. Seems like this printer would fulfill my requirements and enjoyed your step by step commentary. I promise to read the manual.
I can't tell you how you how much I love your short intro. Please don't ever change this, after binging on videos it's so refreshing to not have to sit through 10-20 second intros for every video.
Thanks, Ryan!!
I’m about to get my pursa in the mail and this was very helpful to try to get an understanding of the printer before I use it! Thank you!
The black plastic covering is for the shipping insurance. If they just shipped the main box, then many shipping companies will not insure the packaging and contents if they're damaged during transit. Adding the extra layer of pallet wrap or another box means that the overall contents are insured and protected should they get damaged.
Bet you Customs in my country is going to rip it off. heh.
It's also used as security wrap so short of reading shipping label no-one can see what it is. I have hauled a lot of high value freight and even domestically they wrap pallets in black shrink wrap so no-one can see what the product is.
I purchased an mk2 and the black plastic was ripped by UPS. The box was soaked from sitting out in the rain during the international shipping process so we refused receipt and sent it back at UPS’ s expense.
@@rebeltrucker I used to work for a UK company, and would send kit to Russia all of which we had to wrap with black wrap, for as you say security reasons, so no one could see what was on the pallets in transit.
Have you ever tried to ship something with Czech post or PPL? You are lucky if you receive it unbroken, dry and not just an empty box. Or in case of Czech post if you receive it at all.
I have the Mk3 kit in the mail right now, I can't wait to play with it!
Oh, I was waiting for that video specifically! Thank you 😀
Welcome!
1:22 Because you are not allowed to send labeled boxes out of the country. They do this only to the export ones.
Hi Joel, really neat video - love your straightforward 'user oriented' approach! And wow, yeah - the i3 mk3 is a fabulous piece of kit, no doubt.
It looks amazing :) I am waiting for mine in the end of January or February :) Can't wait to assemble and print with my first 3d Printer :)
Man , hats off for your patience , you got the printer a few weeks ago and you haven't opened it until now . I would rip it open the second it's delivered
Honest review thank you for that, new sub from me, keep up the good work! p.s. i liked the way you tested each thing like the power loss, touching it, "filament loss scenario"
Love it my man. Can't wait for mine. I went lazy route and ordered a pre built unit myself. Can't wait! Getting my mk2s on Monday also! Keep up the good work Joel and ill see you next live stream
+Joshua Dufresne Just thought I would say hi :) Cheers, JAYTEE
JAYTEE Tompkins yo Heya man! Hope all's well. Maybe see you on for next live stream for a fellow patreon to harass lol
Absolutely, time zones permitting ;) Cheers
im so happy that a 3d printing company from my country has got even to you
Watching this today (when I own sooo many of these printers) makes me LOL.
Great video. Love the filament that you use.
You do "The best reviews in 3d printer world" because you take your time to explain to a regular people that not have a complete knowledge of all the parts. Is a straightforward review but with all the cool and instered stuff of the equipment. Thank Joel
Wow, thank you! My goal is to always explain things in a way that my mother would understand. :)
Love the colour of that filament the silver fleck really adds to it
hey Joel, I have been watching your videos and decided to jump into 3d printing! I even ordered the Mk3 sat night. However monday morning i remembered that you have an affiliate link! so i canceled my order and am reordering through the link! a bit of a hassle but i wanted to make sure you got credit as a thank you for all the videos you make for us.
This is my main printer and I love it. All the recover features is why I got it.
Always loving the real cool stuff!! I like te prusa 3D printers they work great and it is a realy simple design love IT!! High Five!!
I love it when I get a 3D printer with my pack of haribo :)
Thanks For doing this! Awesome content!
I just ordered the MK3 kit a couple weeks ago. Looking forward to when it arrives and your final review of the printer!
I got a Mk2S kit for Xmas and I also got dino gummies! Josef is such a thoughtful guy. Happy printing and high five!
Wup wup, 400k subs :D Congrats man!
Thank you!
So exited! My kit ships in febuary!
Joesph is definitely going to slap you. The manual steps for an assembled printer call for you to calibrate Z. See page 11. :-P
Steven Bloomfield You can't blame him it's not like he runs a KZhead channel or something like that.. oh wait, he does!!!
if you get the kit built printer it shows you a wizard that guides you through the calibration. The assembled one needs that as well, then you can call it a real plug n play printer
STEVEN! My goodness, I even called out needing to read the manual at the beginning! This is all on me. I forgot. Completely and totally forgot. When I'm filming late at night, it's an echo chamber, and I'm left all alone with my thoughts. This is totally on me. HOWEVER, even dumb ol' me still got the thing to work. I think that's a testament to Prusa and his vision on making 3d printers easier to use.
James - you bet I do, and I also harbor a brain that's very ineffective as the hours pass. Yes, I suck. But, I know that. I'll learn, makes notes, and do the next one better.
3D Printing Nerd I'm getting the Mk3 kit so hopefully it goes to plan!
Another awesome video! Keep it up!
i liked the free review of the power cord
Extraordinary demo.
"Josef will fly over from the Czech Republic and slap me if I dont read this" Now that's one determined man.
True. The slaps are real.
3D Printing Nerd, lol
Jo would definitely do that, haha! He calls it the handbook for a reason!
Ryan Babcock, lol
That printer is awesome!
A great review. I know people are calling out that you didn't read the manual at all, but lets face it, you get a new toy like this you're going to want to open it and play. And I would have done the same things you did, so not unrealistic. Thanks Joel.
Superb video, lots of information, valuable tests and insights, you really helped me make my choice on whether or not to buy that toy for my mens cave :-)
Bummer! Only just watched this vid and have already ordered my MK3! If id seen this before I definitely would have used your link, sorry Joel. Especially as you were one of the people that, through your channel and on The Twitter, helped me make my mind up that the MK3 was the printer for me. You, Makers Muse, 3DNoob and Chaos Cortech really helped me, thank you 🖖🏼
Aww, no problem, man! I appreciate the thought! I'm excited for you to get your machine!
3D Printing Nerd thank you Joel. I really can’t wait till February! I’ve had two Chinese printers fail within a month of arrival so going Prusa! I’m disabled and unable to build a kit so working out of the box (apart from calibration) is really important to me. I’ve found 3d printing really therapeutic and keeps my brain active. I’ve learnt so much from you and the other guys. Much appreciated. Rums on me if you ever make it to the UK 👍
The whistle looks like it made out of composite material. Looks cool. Am def buying this machine
Great video, I've been wanting to get a 3d printer for a good while and this is the one I'm going with. Thanks! I'll use the affiliate link!
Wow looks like a great printer
Awesome Joel
I was waiting for your review on this! When you said you were not going to calibrate it, I was screaming: The thing has been shipped half way around the world! LOL At least you didn't let us sit through the whole 12 minute calibration like other vloggers do. But I must admit, getting a bit tired of watching vloggers testing the power out, filament sensor and crash detection. Now I am looking forward to see what you can do with this thing! Thanks Joel.
Heh, testing out those new features - yeah, boring. Very boring. I completely agree. I just HAD to, though, as they are new, and what I want to know first about the new machine. Don't worry, now it's time to get to printing.
Well, I'm glad you got that out of your system ;-)
I believe in this printer. Wonder how the print quality compares to my "ancient" Makerbot Replicator 2, even though the Replicator 2 is almost 5 years old it still does okay. And as always a great video Joel!
just waiting on my printer to ship as loved my mk2
Oh man, I've just bought one of this a week ago, I've could use your link :( great review btw
I opted for the MK2.5(S)? upgrade. Thanks Joel for the great video!
Great to see all the features working gives me goosebumps seeing it. I’m waiting for the Aussie dollar to improve or a winning lottery number lol unless you can get me one with mates rates lol great video tho love your work all the way from Tasmania 👍
Ι believe that this 3d printers success bewond presise manufacturing ang quality control is all the self tests and troubleshooting guide that lives nothing unaddressed...this is the big difference that distinguish a product developer from a cloner... Very nice and honest presentation that makes me totally love the MK3...
I ordered mine last month, excited to get my first 3d printer
Oh how exciting! I bet you're going to love it.
+Matt Williams, you've entered the 3D Printing world with the 'gold standard'. Cheers, JAYTEE
JAYTEE Tompkins haha, yes! I've wanted one for many years, and they have come down in price, but I finally decided to get as good of one as I could afford!
Mum my taught me many years ago to buy the best you can afford. Cheers
6:48 I did that yesterday with my new filament!😃
Joe, thanks for the video, as someone who has recently ordered an assembled I3 MK3 I now know what to expect when I open the box. Hopefully the knob/switch on my printer will still be in place .and I won't have to go hunting for it. Being on the cautious side i'd probably calibrate it anyway before use a- to make avoid a problem when it comes to the 1st print and b- to find out how its done.
how'd it turn out?
Just one more week of waiting for my MK3! (kit of course!) Good thing that making a SolidWorks version of the MK3 kept me occupied for the time being!
Watching you unbox a MK3, while I print something on my MK2S (upgrade kit on order). At least your experience went a lot smoother than Thomas'. The joys of live streaming eh?! ;)
19:50 The power loss recovery is awesome. Especially as someone who lives in a very rural area (we get tiny little power blips a lot- Most of the time you don't notice it, but I had an alarm clock which didn't have a battery so it would reset the clock to 12:00 everytime we lost power. Not to mention some of our neighbours who were new to the area would have their house alarms running off the mains so the alarms would go off all the time.) Also the lights would flicker and my parent's TV would turn itself off and on. It was one of the main reasons my parents got a laptop, that way the 2 second power loss wouldn't matter. Kind of hard to have a computer when the power switches off all the time. Nowadays the power stability is better, it's a mountainous region so it's difficult to get the infrastructure stable. It is much better than it used to be. The guys on the national grid have done a good job, to be fair.
Just buy a cheap UPS, with Prusa's energy consumption it will run it for at least 30 minutes before failing and you won't have to worry about short blips, which aren't good for the power supply anyway.
Nice with all the extras We didn't even get the new spool holder 😑 but we are absolutely loving our mk3 especially after updating firmware
That's great to hear about loving your new mk3! Sorry about not getting the new spool holder, perhaps the model is available from Prusa Research as a download?
TY JOEL, JUST GOT OFF WITH PRUSA SUPPORT, THEY ARE AWESOME, THE STL FILE FOR THE NEW SPOOL HOLDER IS ON THE WEBPAGE UNDER THE SUPPORT TAB, JUST FYI TO ANYONE ELSE WONDERING. GOD BLESS
The Dino Haribo are the best!!! Great first look. Echos my experience with the kit version.
woot!
10:54 "I got no knob" :D
So excited to get my own kit. Sadly I ordered mine a week ago before I knew about your affiliate link! Doh!
Nah, no worries, man! Super stoked for you to get your kit!
Would love to get back into 3D printing here in the Philippines. Only down side to it, is that it's always mid 80's and humid. Hopefully one day I will.
I hope to see a box like that at my front door soon
I really like how you pronounce Haribo ;) High Five, Nerd!
Great job Joel: FYI: Stepper Motors will show an increase in Current when they stall. This increase in current is detected by the electronics and is used to detect end stops and/or stopping movement in the case of something restricting movement while printing. The firmware does the rest. Even though I have a Prusa MK2s I think you have convinced me to get a MK3; using your link.
Ah, the current! That makes sense!
Just ordered my MK3 with multi-material upgrade and I can't wait till march!! Glad I have my wanhao otherwise I would go insane.
Print all the things!
Enjoyed the vid, would love to hear your experiences using octoprint, also which slicers you have tried, perhaps some contrasts and benefits between slic3r, s3d and prusa control?
Best printer HANDS DOWN!
got my PRUSA I3 MK3 kit finally took 16 hours total for me to build and print first print right. z adjust was hardest for me lol.
This will be my first 3D printer - just pulled the trigger on it last week though, but made that decision based on your thoughts on the MK2... too bad it's too late to give you some love on that purchase.
Thanks for showing off the pre-assembled model. While I'd love to assemble a printer myself, for the extra $250 or so it's worth it to me. I'll definitely hit up the affiliate link when it's time!
+Ian Douglas aww thank you!
Okay who am I kidding, it's time to order. Enjoy the Scooby snacks. :)
+Ian Douglas hahaha. You bet! :)
Thanks for sharing👍😀
I assembled my MK2S recently and had the same issue with the Z axis. I now max out the positive on my z axis for every print.
The clicking in the Power Supply is a relay turning on and off as it supplies power to the heat bed.
LCD screen reminded me old from mid 2000-th when I learned AT-Mega.
A lot of people are moaning about the mk3, but I think people have too much hype and expectations, it's probably one of the most technical fdm printers for the home, so it's bound to have some issues, and work to do with the firmware, it's still only a 3d printer. It's soo tiny :) So glad you found your knob :)
+Tac Blades right? I don't know what I would do without my knob.
I'm trying to be mature, but you are making it difficult with your "knob" phrasing. X'D
Hotaru maturity is over rated
Thanks for the quick review Joel. Seems like everyone is breaking that spool holder- they need to bump up the infill in the weak area. Also- check your filament sensor for excessive heat due to a possible short developing on the sensor board- seems there is a large enough problem that shipping has been suspended while they look into it.
I figured it was best to get it out of the box and make sure the new features worked, you know? It will still require lots of usage, but, for a first impression, not too shabby. I think it needs more than more infill, I think a thicker design there, with more tolerance for fit. Also, the filament sensor - I've been reading up on that. I'll keep that in mind.
Hook an ammeter in line with your power cable and listen for the clicking noise. The sounds should be a dry relay coil controlling a heating element, possibly 2 separate circuits. Your ears and the amperage should provide an answer. Interesting toy. Thanks for the video.
I enjoyed your review. I'll be interested to see if you found out what the was the cause of the power supply clicking. Was it switching perhaps?
Nice printer cant wait till i can get one. BTW what power strip is that? i need a large one like that hahaha
@3D Printing Nerd, what tables do you use in your workshop? Are they custom or easily purchased at a box store? Building my own workshop and those tables look perfect
I'm curious to know how it handles compound failures. For example, what happens if there's a power failure when it's in the middle of recovering from a power failure, or a power failure when you're reloading filament in the middle of a print, or the head crashes when it's attempting to home after a power failure, etc?
When is Prusa going to come out with a larger build volume? I'd love a 400mm^3 or larger volume :D
The clicking sound coming from the power supply are the transistors regulating the temperature. If you look at the temperature as it's ramping up it's quiet until it is almost at the desired temperature then it'll start clicking.
That makes sense to me! However, my mk2 machines don't click - so - just different power supply design?
3D Printing Nerd, maybe because this is 24 volt system. This is my first ever 3d printer. If it's the same power supply used in the MK2 the increase in voltage probably loads the transistors more. It seems the bed heater on mine causes it to click louder than the nozzle heater. I've checked the solder joints really well as I was building the printer and they looked good. I also checked the wires before and after assembly for continuity and resistance. All checked fine. For the first few short prints I stayed with the printer making sure that it didn't flame out. It's been printing non stop now for about 5 days. I'm not too worried about the noise. When I check on a print I check the power supply for excessive temperature. So far nothing unusual.
Noctua Fans have a lower CFM than the normal Fans but for the E3d V6 it's probably good enough. The Mk3 is super quiet though and the nozzle fan actually switches off when the hotend is cool enough which is a feature all printers should have.
for traveling purposes is the Prusa 3D printer easy to disassemble and reassemble again? I very new to 3d printing and so far I really like the Prusa because you can print up to 5 different filaments, or as a new be would you recommend that I buy the Ender 3, and or the Monoprice mini MP i3 instead? I'm at a loss at the moment on which 3D printer I should buy, and that can the Prusa print Flexible Filament? The items that I plan on printing are charms like figurines like say a Mass Effect small statue, key chains, coasters, cos-play items like an Assassin's Creed Odyssey helmet and sword etc. I hope you can help me out please.
Hmm should I buy one of these? I already have an Ultimaker 2+ and all my filament is 2.85, but this does look like a rad printer and i love the awesome new features...
I'm looking forward to buy this printer, do you guys recommend me this one for functional products (like sunglasses frames, kitchen items, accessories)? and I would like to now if this printer can be upgraded. Thanks!
Haha I watched Galaxy Quest last weekend, it´s so funny. :D
Do I need to keep an eye on the prints during the printer or will this specific printer be okay? I know some printers you have to check on it every so often
Black plastic, not sure but Im guessing to help with moisture during shipping, But I LOVE that it does, we get a long rainy season in Florida, Ive had a few items sit on my door step to come home to a wet box. 8(
i am from czech republic and i can say you why is there this black plastic foil on the box... it is because czech post is totaly not gentle to boxes and every 5th box which they had in hands is damaged
yeah that is absolutely true
The clicking in the PSU could be a Switch that detects the Power consumption and switch on the internal Fan.
Can you do the Z leveling on the cr10s4 like you did to get it to detect the build plate I don't known how to make sure it's the same height mine has dual z motors
I really like his printers and really surprised MK3 isn't offering a larger print volume. Is that coming soon? Josef? =)
Hey Joel question for ya I'm running fusion 360 and was wondering is there a way to incert an front view side view and a rear view of an object and have the software make a 3d object out of it like a bust or something along that line
I have a cr-10, I'm looking to get another one, do you recommend the prusa?
You didn't destroy it as hard as Thomas Sanladerer. Haha. Looks like the most user-friendly printer I've seen thus far.
So far, the Prusa machines are the easiest out-of-the-box printers I've used.
I love your camera quality!
Gracias! That's the XF400
I will go check that out. NJ Printing is a startup KZhead channel made by two brothers. We are big fans of you. We have made some videos, but we would love your advice. Thank you so much! Keep up the amazing content.
Top of the line printer.
I think so. Prusa has added so many features to this little machine, and all that hardware that's new is going to get better as he tunes the firmware.
Why're you awake right now Joel?! You need to make your own 3d printer from scratch. Aluminum extrusion and 3d printed parts. I am currently building a 2'x2'x3.5' H-bot printer. Love the channel. High five!
nice that the updated firmware works great. i want a video on how to install new firmware. it is a challange on my delta i have.
