I got my hands on the new DJI Avata 2 and first impressions are that it seems like a great drone, its pretty damn fast but is it strong?!

because of this video, I am buying one! Thanks!
If you put hi-vis reflective tape on, you could search for it at night with a light if you lost it.
Bingo😊
Thats a great idea, thanks. I enjoy flying with LED strips so I can find them easier.
@IggyBiggy you have a link for the strips? I just got the A2
Looking forward to getting mine 🙌🏽
Got one ordered as my birthday present and cannot wait to fly it. It'll be my first drone and by the looks of it from many videos I have watched, it looks like it'll be fairly straightforward to fly. It's easy to hear how much fun you were having out there and no wonder, it looks fantastic.
They are a blast. Have fun!
I got one for myself for my birthday too. Happy birthday!
Great choice for a first drone - I bought the Air 3 about a month ago and now i want the Avata 2.. it would be awesome to own!
its great for newbies, you should be good, but dont try limits on first flights, just use your brain, be cool headed and will be fine :) If you are good with flying in games like a GTA it will be easier, trust me, DJI Air controll like a heli in GTA haha crazy times, enjoy man and happy birthday
You’re so lucky I got a mini three pro for my birthday and it has a crazy good camera
I want one! top review, cheers mate
Wow, what a great post! Your narrative is so great because it’s totally spontaneous which is SO GREAT! Been thinking about getting it though I’ve no FPV experience! Have the Mini 3, and Mini 4 Pro. Seems the Avata 2’s goggles and controller is compatible with the Mini 4 Pro (according to DJI Store) so this may be a real added adventure! How exciting, and as that crash you did, a Mini ¾ would never survive! Thanks!
Great video, pal. I'm on the fence as I've never had an FPV drone. I've been flying DJI drones (Phantom, Mavic, Mini, etc.) for about 10 years, but this helped. It looks like great fun and offers a completely different perspective.
Accidental crash not crash test
Accidental crash test
You earned my SUB and Like. I've been flying fulltime for the last 8yrs, but always wanted to get into FPV. I was just thinking how great it would be to fly through woods here in Wisconsin and pop ups your video. I think I'll pick this up and ease into full Manual eventually, but for now that motion control appears to rock the shots I would want with a smaller learning curve. Keep making vids in tight places. Love it!
This easy flying HD FPV out of body experience is why I got into building quads and tiny whoops yrs ago. The fact that DJI has refined the Avata enough makes me want to finally splurge on this kit. I do wish they gave you the choice between getting the regular controller and the motion one. I don't want to have to spend even more.
Most honest video I've seen. Love your enthusiasm . Flown fpv badly and dji for years ...might be time to invest in a new toy🤔😀
😂😂😂😂
Great to see ya smashing those woods again! 😉. Cant believe what is possible with the motion stick! The tree orbits were nuts! Cant wait to get out tomorrow with mine now!
Cheers matey! You are gonna love it!
@@andykirbyif I was to buy thos as a first drone would it be a good option looks incredible also wondered as never had goggles do you control it from them or just see what is Infront
I bought the Avata 2 and always get the fly more kit with every drone purchase. Just ordered the ND filters from DJI, plus a 4th battery and some extra propellers (haven't broken any yet). Also ordered a hard case off of Amazon. Really love them (don't care for the bag).
Great dynamic range test
It really is a lot of fun. I've only ever had the traditional drones so it does take some getting use to. I've had a bunch of people flying mine some with 0 experience and they figured it out pretty quick... no crashes yet must need to fly a little harder
Great review, the gimbal turning with your head is pretty incredible, those shots were pretty insane from a filmmakers viewpoint. I can see so many uses for this drone.
It’s actually not the gimbal turning, it is the drone itself (in the horizontal plane). Sweet tech indeed! 🙌
What I really dont like about the avata 1 is that when you release the “gas” in speed, part of the frame will swing into picture when it brakes. That seems to been worked around on the avata 2. Can’t wait to try it out!
Great video. Very helpful 👌 Mine arrived on Friday. But not flown yet. Just not had the weather 😒
Looks like fun. I like it!
Wow, great video. I love the skimming along the ground. Mine should be here in two days.!!! Whhoooo
did you get your drone yet?
@@user-ko8qg7tg4d Tomorrow, woohoo!!!
There is a glitch in the video. Is it after editing?
I love mine just can't do the sweeping reveal shots you did around the tree with the motion controller, easy with the remote
😮 this looks amazing. Crazy footage. I’m nervous of getting it stuck somewhere and having to retrieve it though. I’m experienced with the mini drones.
What forest is this? Looks awesome for forestry photography pal
Super tempted to pick one of these up. I am transitioning in my career right now. Very tempting though.
I am wondering if you have the rules there that require keeping the drone in your line of sight?
Pretty cool, it looks like fun.
Fun to see but to control it might take hours of practice. As a first drone I guess I will buy dji mini 4 pro
@@roninr8199 You can fly an Inspire for years then still face the same curve learning to fly this as someone who has never flown a drone. It is a totally different experience. Don't think getting a normal GPS camera drone first will prepare you for this. It won't. However, most people pick up the basics of the Avata (specifically goggles) after their very first flight or two. You can go as fast or as slow as you like and it has a beginners mode capped at 1 m/s while you learn from scratch. If you are buying a drone to take photos and video as a main priority then get the mini 4 but if you want it for sheer fun and enjoyment of flying then get this. Also important to note that if you crashed a mini 4 in the same way Andy crashed his avata in this vid your Mini would be smashed up and in need of serious repair. The Avata is far more forgiving in a crash as designed to take a hit making it far more robust for beginners.
@@silverfox74 thanks for the info. I want drone just to take photos and cinematic videos. Also one more thing mini 4 pro is less than 250g so I hope there won't be issues when I am importing to my country unlike avata 2 is 250g plus. I can go slow with mini 4 pro and control seems to be easy also mini 4 pro has obstacle avoidance. If avata 2 had all sides obstacle avoidance I would have blindly bought it. One good thing is you mentioned I can keep minimum speed as 1m/s since I am not looking for anything fast action.
this is in sign. looks so much fun
Lucky you, I ordered mine from DJI and won’t be getting it till Monday, should have gone to Amazon myself
I got mine and now want to fly in the woods :). Be aware though, it does nor have optical avoidance cameras. It has sensors for rear/back that are used for more accurate position hold only.
Hi Andy, nice vid - like it a lot!!🥰 Dont know if the ham.cfg file hack works on the Avata2 with newer firmware? It would be cool if you could make a video about it or confirm that it works.
Thanks! It seems to, I've updated mine and it still works👍🏻
@@andykirby Thanks mate! ✌
@@andykirby Does it means that it works with the same ham.cfg file hack like on the older avata with goggle v2? Cool.
Whats the goggles like if you wear glasses ?
Is the passthrough in colour? Also is your Avata CE or FCC? Thanks mate! 😍
It’s in color, either 2d or 3d, but 3d can’t do PIP
Im in love with your ang mate
Great vid mate, have you done a how to video on the FCC hack?
Is his Avata CE?
I’m also waiting on this answer before I purchase FCC mode is a must have CE is useless
FCC mod where?? Does that also enable 67 to 100kph??
I probably don't know what Im talking about, but It might unlock a faster speed if you live in europe.
@@CobraKeener exactly the opposite mate 😂🫠 users in eu get lower speeds and bad transmission speeds
@@DerZaubererFN I meant it might unlock it to American rules in Europe, making it faster than it usually is.
Niceeee broooo 😂👍
that great . I remember of first one . knocking battery out of it. very good video on that. was watching in 4K . would like more drown video's as well as the E-Bike stuff. I am in NY/USA . get some drown video when you and Lewis play radio stuff. that some great stuff you 2 do together. maybe put a LoRa or something on the drone give it a test. all great stuff and fun video. Cheers from NY !
I just got mine I have the DJI fpv and there is no way I would fly it in that woods like you are with tha avata
Looks ace. Do you think that it would be ok to wear glasses with the goggles? Has anyone got experience of wearing glasses with the goggles?
Same sensor?
whay your HAM licemce handle ?
Where can I get the FCC modd ?
I’m not sure those are obstacle avoidance sensors, I think they are made for stabilisation when you fly low, I will check as soon as mine will be delivered
You are correct, they are downward and backwards positioning sensors. There's an incredible example on one of JBs streams of this assisting a feature where the drone tracks back to the point it loses signal when it failsafes.
I won a dji mini 2 se yesterday, pretty chuffed 👍👍 that wooded area reminds me of starwars when storm troopers were on those bikes, 👍👍😀as i wrote this you mentioned starwars 😂😂
Nice on on the win! SE is a great drone 😁 defo star wars vibes!
Def speeder bikes on Endor with the ewoks - so cool
Great video Andy. Just subscribed.
If one were to crash this drone out of their sight, does it have a map screen or somehow give its coordinates for locating it ? Thanks.
You can make the drone emit a beeping sound amd if you connect a smartphone you can locate it. The goggles will also playback the last bit of footage before the crash to help you get an idea of where it crashed.
We need more FPV :D ... been toying with the idea of getting an FPV drone myself and this looks like a good choice.... Only problem for me maybe getting my glasses inside the goggles ... how much room is in there ???
They have focus setting so the actual screens can change based on your prescription :) (if you’re not within the range they support you can get adapters so you don’t need to wear glasses)
Nice...Infact Impressive...
Hi, this is a great video. I just want to check - I have a UK (CAA) Operator ID and a Flyer ID. I currently fly a DJI Mini 4 Pro that is sub-250g. Am I legally allowed to fly this Avata drone without needing any additional licenses etc.?
Yes you are. However, it would need to be flown in the A3 subcategory (150m away from structures and people) - similar to the location in this video. You are also required to have a spotter with you to be able to see the drone while you fly and tell you if anything that may be dangerous to the flight is approaching nearby like a plane, chopper or dog walkers etc. Flying FPV without a spotter is considered BVLOS which is an offence but if nobody is in the area except you then who else knows... Just use your common sense. You can also join somewhere like FPV UK (£25 a year) and fly under the CAA article 16 authorisation which enables you to fly FPV up to 30m from people and buildings without having to get anything more than the ID's you already have (but you'll still need a spotter).
@@silverfox74 Thank you for the response!
What’s the FCC hack?
Tank u
Has it got a follow me mode as in bicycle touring ??
Don't think so. The MINI range of drones are better for that purpose.
@@andykirby thanks buddy
On a different note, have you still got your TT?
Yep 👍🏻😁
Sent mine back board after 1 hour great for newbies. Great review to
Why is this not in 4K?
Can this fly through parking garages and around suburban houses with a clear video signal?
I believe it was designed with that in mind.
i wear glasses can i use it
I'm a relative beginner to drones especially FPV and seriously considering this. One thing that is completely puzzling me though is the UK law regarding flying this and other FPV drones. From what I understand it has to be flown in VLOS by a spotter stood nearby, but I've yet to see a review or video that doesn't show the drone flying over the edge of a cliff, into a building and just generally completely out of site to anyone watching or spotting, and usually just a solo pilot 😂. UK videos too. Have I misunderstood the regulations or do we just interpret them to our own situation?😅🤫
It’s more of a “don’t get caught” situation
You can obtain permission and qualifications that legally permit you to fly beyond visual line of sight. In the UK merely joining a CAA recognised model aircraft club such as FPV UK enable the operator to fly without a spotter under article 16 authorisation of the CAA in 'sterile areas' whereby nobody will be present. That said, in the majority of cases, it is a 'don't get caught' situation and if manned aircraft are not at risk, there is no reasonable suspicious acitivity of serious crime and nobody has been hurt then I don't think the authorities give two you know what TBH.
Online it says 60mph, but limited to 42mph in EU regions. Has the U.K. been given the EU restrictions, or do we get the full 60mph because of Brexit?
Good question!
The restriction is in all EU member countries. So yes, it is limited by the absurd legislation we have.
@@NonilloFamara But the U.K. left the EU, so does the U.K. get the fully unlocked version - or does DJI send us the EU market drones?
@@JakeM218 In that case, you have been very lucky friend. UK left EASA in 2020. Well done to you all 👏🏼👏🏼

Bought today. Going to make some epic sh*t with this and no mistake...
Those are not obstacle avoidance on the rear, they are position sensors
Yes that is correct, I even saw reviewers to whom DJI consigned a unit prior to the official release say those are rear facing obstacle avoidance sensors...
I'm torn between the original fpv drone and the avatar 2. Guys pls remember to fly responsibly, let's follow the rules so this hobby can be accepted more and more
youve got to protect them, used some stick on rubber all over the avata 1, plastic hitting concrete is not nice, use a rubber!, saludos from Alicante Spain
That was mental footage. So the goggles enable you to obviously take it out of line of sight. Because you visually can see the drones location by viewing through the camera. It's super fast. And made me dizzy too circling around the trees. I'm not a drone flyer but watch a lot of auditing channels so only know what they explain. But this surely is above the 249 category as it is a lot bigger than the DJI mini series. So you are restricted to where you can fly I take it. What was the detail to to with a mod you did that meant it was okay to do because you have a HAM license. And what difference does this make to the drone. And why would a HAM license be required. Great unsponsored personal review of the drone. Looks loads of fun.
Just watched Mads Tech who said the Ham file does NOT work anymore. So you must have had a beta release of the s/w. If you are running FCC that would account for the penetration. Worth stressing it is illegal for most people to jack the o/p up and people have been prosecuted. Quite why it is illegal is beyond me when flying in woods isn’t going to cause anyone any issues
4K 60? Yeah right, you uploaded it as 1080p mate. :(
Falling on Soft grass is not actually a crash test. This is not a durable carbon drone. Avata 2 is very fragile so if its going to be your first drone,be very carefuly not to smash it on the first flights.
I think he "Kinda" likes it.
gone off fpv ...... skinted me trying to keep up with the tech every year
Every year, every 4 months
India price
It's fast outside of Europe. In the EU with C1 marking, it leaves a lot to be desired... It is limited to 19m/s. Even in manual mode with the RC3, it is still stuck at 19m/s without being able to reach its maximum potential of 27m/s. what stupidity…
Really ? Where may I find that information please ?
@@Cervin_Suisse in the DJI Avata 2 user manual itself. It indicates it perfectly.
@@NonilloFamara Thank you. So I assume it means that parameters in adjusted in function of the geographical location. I doubt they would modify drones as they are shipped.
No spotter?
To bad in America congress is talking about turning all dji products into paperweights.
Unless the US government is paying me back i'm flying my DJI drone anyways 😂
If congress gets their way, dji will be banned by FCC from using communications airways in US. Like having a cell phone with no signal. You can still have one. But it won't fly.
Not possible as it doesn't use cell networks, it uses its own proprietary radio link.
If it is not possible to unlock fcc in europe, thats a dealbreaker. Comeone, 160km/h + better range outside EU vs 70km/h and worse range in EU. WTF?? tell me there is a mod and il go to store and buy avata 2.
The EU stuffed shirt Fun Police says you can't have fun like in the USA....Prats.....EU prats...😏😳🤔🇬🇧
Why are you sticking your arm out 🙂 works just as well by your side 🙂
If you follow the rules you need a spotter every time you fly this which is a bit ridiculous imo
There are loop holes
As fun as it looks, basically nearly a grand for not the best way to take video footage and not the best way to FPV race? And probably get nauseous. I can't see using it for footage really compared with cheaper options which are better, and I can't see it being competitive if that's what you're into, because you build those yourself really. So this kind of comes across as an exceptionally expensive toy I'd get bored of after a few weeks and then occasionally use again. I mean it certainly looks easy to use, but that in itself takes away from some of the longer term entertainment.
It's definitely a hybrid model in the line up. Still, it looks like great fun and if a grand is not an exceptional purchase for you then this may be a cool alternative to the norm.
Avata 1 is faster then 2
My Avata 2 hits 38mph, with the master air screw pops I can only hit 30mph, stock 28 mph. Sport mode of course, not manual mode.
Stop fibbing you did break a frame you mentioned it in one of you're previous videos.
VLOS? What if someone was walking on one of those paths?
Honestly in the FPV Quad world a top speed of 60mph is extremely slow.
I think You made me broke my own promise for not to bought drones anymore…😅
