That mock trailer was expertly crafted, especially since I've seen most of the actual reviews they came from. Props to the editor for cementing exactly how opinions can not just be guided, but straight up misled with some simple editing tricks and restrictions. It's really important to use reviews as a supplementary opinion, but to think for yourself and do your own research and even personal testing in person.

But for games, if the actual product ends up trash and not live up to the hype, the brand gets absolutely destroyed. No matter how "out of context" they take the quotes. Like what happened with CD Project Red's Cyberpunk 2077. More than 10 years of work, and today, its nothing more than a major source of meme materials. Tech companies shield themselves by releasing multiple ultra, max, lite, pro, note and what not, at once. People get confused what's what, and the complaints sort of fades away...

I really love one who is being honest when reviewing certain products of a company for viewers or customer's sake. And it does help the company to improve on their weak point. Any way, companies do such positive promotions for a good reason to their own companies. They even don't like one to speak bad about their products on the certain part it can't perform better. So they try by coaching the KZheadrs who gonna review that specific product on what to to tell the viewers and focus most. That's kind of not being honest with the client. Anyway, that's normal game they play with us but we know too
What you are sharing boils down to trust. A short story from a different angle: I was an engineer for a start-up back in 2001. We had a box that supported all types of traffic over the Internet using Asynchronous Transfer Mode--a popular backbone transport back then. I flew to Dallas to do a "bake off" with the top five competitors and came out on top (and not by a small margin either). These tests were performed in front of a top magazine writer and one other person operating the test gear. I was soon on the phone with our Marketing lead after the published article had pronounced the #2 competitor as the winner. I fell out of my chair when the writer unabashedly admitted that a steak dinner and small gifts, among other things, was all we had needed to garner his favor. Had I not heard it with my own ears, I would have assumed that someone had simply had sour grapes with the outcome. Were you in the telecom biz back then and I told you the name of the magazine, it would put you in your seat. Since then I have been very skeptical about all technology rags.
Don't trust anyone. I think these guys aren't saint too. People will do everything for a profit.

And the profit they could get its way smaller than the backlash they could receive, so not too much "good and low-risk of a deal" profit.

@@TC-yc1ju That's because he's naturally an optimistic person but he's still honest in his opinion. "I kind of like it" is different from "I like this" or "I like this a lot!" and there are definitely products he dislikes as well, he let's you know the quality of the features compared to the general standard and it's up to you to decide what features you value the most.
Marques isn't as transparent as you think, many big youtube reviewers aren't legit, i only trust mrmobile & gamersnexus these days

Awesome breakdown. There is one more factor: Micro-Influencers. While it's great that brands are including smaller creators, micro-influencers tend to be super enthusiastic about products from big brands and they tend to do multiple videos which usually lean on the positive side. The brand gets a flood of content across a sustained period of time and the creator gets the views. This is especially true if it's a paid-for collaboration.

I love this video! It's time these things were said. I just wish you guys would've gone a step further, by agreeing that you would no longer abide by or agree to manufacturer terms that set the stage for consumers being misled. For example, if you believe that a phone is an incredible piece of hardware, but already know the software is crap, please don't make a video hyping us up on the hardware. A lot of us will go out and preorder based on those initial seemingly positive reviews. Or at a bare minimum, give us STRONG warnings to not buy yet, and wait until the second video drops so we can get the full picture. Unless some of you big dogs start taking a stand, these abusive practices will just continue and grow.

I hope your message will have an impact. Big tech companies are manipulating on such a big scale it should be illegal.

I mean I honestly never realised all of this... it's made me realise how we really can't trust anything we hear on the internet without looking into it... and it's quite terrifying how these big tech companies are manipulating people... I guess it's become so normalised now that not many people realise the truth about this.

You guys should create a whole new review genre "post launch" reviews that talks about all the negative impressions about the product. Users will start to delay their purchases until the post launch reviews hit the tubes.

@@JCKingdom79 I will never buy Samsung again. Too much bloatware, Facebook is made a "system app" (absolute bs) and they make rooting/custom roms a pita. It's obvious that Samsung is up to some shady crap with the way they behave toward the stuff you can actually see, let alone what we can't.
Second that. I've seen automobile magazines have 'long-term' reviews that talk about failures of components, how the manufacturer handled the repair etc., after using it for a while, supplementing their actual 'road-test' because there's only so much you could say from driving a car for just a few days. Likewise, would like to see long-term and ownership-experience focussed reviews which, say, talks about charging / battery drain issues, how a brand makes processing warranty easy or hard (go undercover, absolutely don't reveal it's either of you) - that way user get a 360° view of the device ownership (or at least the brand) to make better decisions. Currently, reddit is the source of such experiences / rants. But such reviews from you guys adds more credibility to the claims.

The cynic in me believes that even "tell-all" videos like this can work in favour of big tech companies: we now see these two reviewers as more trustworthy because of their candour, hence we're more likely to trust any subsequent reviews from them. Take everything with a healthy pinch of salt

I almost puked when he started explaining timing problems (which is LGs biggest promotion fail to be honest. And reviewers biggest chance to do justice.) Stomach curling lack of integrity. Which is what we rely on when we watch his "reviews"

@@ImmortalChanger well I mean that's true but a lot of people work low paying jobs and can't afford to be led to the wrong investments. Having non-skewed reviews of a product is very valuable and is something you can't say for a lot of tech youtubers.
