Wow, we have some seriously passionate Walther fans. Firstly, I definitely should have done more research on the toolset prior to release. That is on me. However, for a "Gun specific" multitool only 2 of the 7 implements have anything to do with guns. The rest are generic in nature. Even if I give a pass to the quality on those items (which isn't great). The other implements are just thrown into it. Where is the carbon scraper? Sight adjustment tool? And I'm sure there are many other gun specific tools that would have been better than a spare blade or the file that doesn't have any texture. Flame on! Cheers, Dominic
I'll be honest I was disappointed for a moment. Then I saw this comment 😂😂😂 perfect. Addressed your flaw and came back strong, you are honestly inspirational.
Hitting the nail on the head here... Love what Walther does in their pews but for this to be a pew maintenance tool... Meh.
Walther is my favorite gun manufacturer! 🔫 ❤️ Thanks for the content man!!
Walthers is primarily a maker of PISTOLS, so there's no sight adjustment tool or carbon scraper needed, in contrast to prior Leatherma, SOG and Gerber tools that are focused on the M16/M4 platform. As for the craptastic file, your criticism of that is dead on.
@@johnsanford3596 Yes. Also: Walther is a German company. Not many direct gas impingement systems here. Stroke piston systems (no matter if long or short) don't get their breech dirty as much.
They certainly didn't "just throw them in there" Guns don't typically use Phillips head screws or require scissors. It's a Gun Maintenance Tool, made by a gun company.
Sadly the small flat head is so thin and flexible I doubt it will last more than a few uses.
That's because it's meant for gun specific tasks...@@maxlvledc
@@maxlvledc Would work very ell on screws on grips of a 1911, which you do not want to over tighten.
@@maxlvledc the flat head is designed to be specific to Walthers, as is the spring puller
By walther for walther pistols. I would have put a dedicated slide release key on there because walthers require a key to unlock the slide to take it off. My buddy had one that he got on the private sell market and it didnt have a key so i had to rig up one out of other things to turn the pivot in the frame to let the slide come off. I believe Ruger uses the same thing or type but their own key has to be used. I know the LC series does anyway.
The little hook is for clearing a failure to extract.
Handy rake tool for picking locks too 🙂
Or grabbing a spring leg to put it a post...this tool is designed well for gun maintenance. A small 2mm hex bit would be useful to add for some grips and a small punch to push pins through instead of a serradded edge would make it ideal.
Umarex (Walther) calls it a spring hook.
@@InvidiousIgnoramusThat's what I thought and use it for...
GMT = gun maintenance tool
Niiiiiiiiiceee
Bingo. The name on the tool is a dead giveaway.
@johnshepherd9676 Also who makes it.
I was wondering if it's for their guns
Yep, this isn't your standard load out EDC tool
You can tell whose EDC includes a firearm and whose doesn't. This tool would be nice to have in the range bag or in the field. I probably won't be getting one because I already have a bunch of tools in the range bag.
Cool bud
Looks like those are all tools for weapons maintenance. It’s very specific to gunsmith’s. That multitool will NOT be for most people’s needs. But I like it and will use one as an armorer. I didn’t even know about that tool so thank you
I was wondering if it was produced by the Walter firearms company. I guess that would explain it. I do love the size and shape, but as he says. I don’t really need it.
The "thin and long" formfactor is interesting. Also that it's so light. Inspirational
Thank you for showcasing this firearms maintenance specific multitool. I just ordered one for my range bag.
That’s a very useful little gun maintenance tool! All the implements would work great for gun maintenance
Guns are cool
you know what sounds like it was thrown in there? This video onto KZhead without even looking at the product page or doing a lick of research lol.
It has the weird tool set because it is a firearms maintenance multitool. Which it actually has a pretty decent tool set for. But from an edc perspective most of the tools are useless
Walther should have given it away 😁
Thanks for the info Dom, Budget HVAC has some great finds.
Looks like a balisong. Pretty cool
I looked at the GMT 150 because I'm writing a book on MTs and other pocket tools, even telephoned with the responsible product manager (here in Germany). The file may not be the greatest, but particularly that "weird thing" you didn't understand is very helpful to push an pull springs in weapons. So, as a lot of others correctly stated before, it's a specialized tool. On the one hand it is just that. On the other hand, as you stated yourself, it has got a very interesting form factor for the pliers. As I have commented several times, in comparison to small pliers from Knipex (and also some other companies) EVERY MT pliers fail to help to cope with medium jobs. Even a LM Surge pliers will fail to move a nut of 1/2 or 3/4", or get a grip on something of 20mm or more in width/thickness - which is no problem for a Cobra 150. But a small pair could complement those nicely. The Nextool Sailor and also the SOG power pint are pretty OK in that regard, but on very heavy, clumsy frames. So if you want a size between a real pair of pliers and the Victorinox pliers on SAKs, this fits perfectly... plus all the specific stuff.
question, what are your thoughts on the 100 cobra?
Nice multi tool, great for a range bag for sure. Now modifying it was my first thought and the possibilities are endless. I see a whole future of vids. Thanks for your time
Well thank you. I was looking for this kind of multitool for bringing it to the shooting range. It's just perfect 😊
this is what ive been looking for in a multi tool for so loong the size it great and the grib looks likw my hand wont hurt after
It's because that is made for a gun specifically Walthers line of pistols. That's what GMT stands for. Gun Maintenance Tool. That injection molded plastic is called polymer and it's what they make their pistol frames out of. I would also say your gauges are for barrel sizes. If you are going to review things know what they are for.
Anybody can call himself a "reviewer" nowadays. It's not a problem if you don't know everything, just don't pretend
@@SgtDuster exactly! Now usually this guy is spot on for the most part but that was not in this video. I bet if he looked up gun multitool he would see a lot more similar to this one. This one isn't a good one in my opinion either. Half that stuff you don't really need to work on a pistol. What you do need is punches to get roll pins out and precision drivers maybe a sight pusher, scraper, etc.
@@Woowoo88The tip of the file tool is sufficient for poking a roll pin out enough to pull it the rest of the way out with the pliers. Alternatively, just do what I do and keep an equivalent size hex key in your kit.
Not sure what the diameter gauges are for, too small for barrels. But they look good for me for measuring pins etc that you will find holding firearm, parts together.
I normally carry my mt on my belt and usually go with a wave plus or surge/st300 but around the house I use the powerpint and it's just awesome.
this is in my range bag. great tool
Glad to see more use of polymers in multitools. Below certain sizes you don't really need the strength of a steel frame anyway (mostly... I know some do). I'm aspleasantly surprised as I was back in the day by the Benchmade Bugout. Trimming excess weight.
Hvac budget is a king. He was my first multitool channel. And now I've found you! Another king channel
these two guys have been consistently delivering top notch videos in this space. I’m grateful that we have them.
@@ToolTechGeek 100%!
Good channel
Great review, I've just picked one up soley for the form factor as it's super-pocketable. Please keep us posted about any modifications you do.
Dominic this has been mentioned by others but this is a Gun Maintenance Tool. Typically these have a few general tools, some ok others there to fill a slot with a few firearm specific tools especially those pertaining to the brand. Get the point you’re making however I doubt if Walther is trying to get into the full blown multi tool market. Full description below: The Gun Maintenance Tool 150 is a featherweight champion when it comes to gun maintenance. It includes eleven practical tools that together weigh only 66 g for quick help on the shooting range or in the field. Tools: pliers, plain blade, serrated blade, screwdriver, diameter gauge, file (fine and coarse), ruler, cable cutter and spring hook, plus a bottle opener for when youve finished your work. The GMT 150 can be carried almost invisibly on your belt in its nylon pouch.
The SOG powerpint for the win! I ordered thumb studs for it, made the bottle opener into a flathead, filed the scissors to a point and rearranged the tools so the most useful ones are on one side and all one handed opening and closing. It's an excellent compact tool.
I know this is a tool made for guns by a gun company, but it is legitimately an awesome design and form factor. I would love to see them expand this tool into a line with more widely usable toolkits, better tool steel and quality control, and even larger versions keeping the same slim gun-grip-textured poly scales but with the slim form factor
The power pint ROCKS
I really love the size/form factor of this. Kind of reminds me of the sog baton multitools.
Thanks for reviewing this tool without actually knowing what it's for
Hmm, interesting design and certainly a good starting point for improvements as you've stated. It'll be nice to see what you come up with.
I would love a slimmer, more pocket friendly option like this from leatherman or victorinox.
Victorinox makes the Victorinox FASS 90 for the StGw-90 (Sig 550) and it is mostly to adjust the sight. To my knowledge that is the only gun tool they make. Honestly, I would look at Real Avid, they have quite the selection of Gun-Multitools and they seem to be of decent/good quality.
Looks decent. Thank you very much for sharing
When I'm not carrying my surge i tend to carry a triple blade friction folder because most edc tasks are to cut something open or shorter if i require anything else in never more than a few steps away from a screw driver or some type of pliers unless i leave the house without the car and I'm not at work.
is it possible that it's a companion tool for one of their firearms?
I dont think so….none of the included tools seem particulary useful in firearm maintenace or cleaning
I love firearms!
@@Locklear33 on the contrary, those tools are for gunsmithing.
@@Locklear33 most of those tools are great for pistol and optic maintenance
Ridiculous! Why would they make a tool to help service their products? Surely it is meant for electricians only.
Looks cool! I love the powerlitre and it replaced the skeletool cx in my pocket...but then I got the power access and it's all I carry. The one handed pliers are where it's at! Any other lightweight one handed options? I prefer pliers, file, knife, and drivers.....
Always with the ar for sure
100% agreed, hopefully they make a general purpose version and not just for gun maintenance
There's a reason I don't carry folding pliers in my pocket anymore, and this video explains it perfectly. Once I can get a strong set of pliers plus Phillips plus scissors, it will live on me for the rest of my life. I probably grind the tip of the pliers to a little bit more of a point.
I used to have an old black Leatherman PST II that was a more compact version of what they have now about 20 years ago and it was the best.
I want , I want! 😂. Looks awesome.
So the tools are meant for gun maintenance, Not EDC
You know some gun maintenance tools can be used for EDC or more importantly, other maintenance fields than just guns. I don't how this tool translates into a walther pistol, but I've seen more general purpose multitools from walther.
And some like this are just made to throw in a range bag to fix guns 🤷♂️
Hi! Great video, I really like the foundations of the tool as well and I was curious if you were planning on making an update video for when you mod it?
That tool is a very nice size.....a lot of potential. Can't wait to see you disassemble it...and put in better implements...Keep blade...ditch everything else. Be interersting to see if Leatherman or Victorinox tools will fit. Better saw, file....91 mm Victorinox scissors,....maybe the awl from Farmer Alox that goes on the side of frame...a bit driver with a double sided bit...straight and phillips..... A tool this size / weight could be ideal...
I missed the multitool reviews! Great video!
the mod will be interesting- I will stick with the powerpint for my edc multitool for now
I agree . .Strong saw ,file one side rougher..that works smooth metal Strong screw drivers .tight door screws ..actually work things ...
It's implemented correctly for Walther hand guns
Absolutely!
not only Walther 😁
Why the dull file ? Anymore that's what I look at first to decide if the tool is serious.
i own a couple walther pistols and let me say i never heard of this tool. My range bag usually has a leatherman signal and some of the best tools made in the USA Chapman MFG. Ottherwise very informative video.
"in addition to the pliers, all you really need in this tool are 3 things. A blade, a flat head, and a Phillips head".... And that's why i happily edc a skeletool cx
Amazing, no mention of gun maintenance at all about the tool.
I'd love screw extraction pliers in this form factor.
What tools do you think are mandatory for a screw extraction set? Electrician focused?
Omg..would be amazing
Looks like a very light tool for scraping your AR bolt and doing other cleaning/maintenance tasks. Considering how heavy a military loadout is: it need to be as light as possible.
Looks like a great gun maintenence tool.
Has an amazing form factor. If one side was a bit driver the other side had a blade, scissors maybe a pry tool or a file. I'd be very interested.
Very nice comparison and review man!!
This isn’t supposed to be an EDC tool. It’s designed to go in your range bag or go bag to do gun maintenance.
The gun specific tools are fine, but most of the more generic tools are mediocre at best. Like the file that has no texture.
@@maxlvledcnever said it was a good gun tool 😂. Hook is for springs, guages for telling diameters on parts or bullets and whatnot, no carbon scrapper because many gun manufacturers tell you not to use them. It’s to do minor things to your gun at the range or in the field. Not at the level that would require an armorer.
Back in the day I bought a leather man blast to have a lighter weight tool in my pocket for the summer for the days I wear shorts but was out doors. So I have it still but broke the flat head screw driver off. And I also now have a skelatool as well. So I’m curious to see what you make of it in the future. Also I’m really considering a Power painte as another option for summer because I do wear short a lot for half the year and my surge and super tool 300 are to heavy unless you use a belt. Lol
This does look like an interesting platform for customizing. I don't pocket a multitool because most are heavy, but I'd pocket this if the tools could get dialed in. I don't EDC a firearm, so some of this stuff I don't care about. I'm not even that keen on a blade at all given that I'd still carry a knife. But this would be a cool platform to make an ultimate TSA friendly bladeless tool. I'm thinking adding a phillips, improving the flat, and getting a beefier file. I'd be interested to see what you come up with on customizing.
I want a powerpint 2.0 with the fixed qc issues. I love that thing and carry it everyday just really hate the scissors
Maybe it fits in a gun case, for regular use there's nothing better than the Leatherman Wave. Full steel, several screwdrivers, a scissor, a very good diamond file, sharp blades and an amazingly sharp saw.
The best small multitool I have and often carry on the weekend is the leatherman juice xe6 and its only ok. Would love something that size that you could pick and choose your tools.
It’s a firearm multitool not a standard. That’s why the tools on it are different than your standard set.
When it comes to EDC, the Leatherman Skeletool is perfect in my opinion. --- pliers, screwdriver and blade. Nothing useless added.
Letherman K4 Free is the knife combo I carry daily.
I can't wait to see the mods, tbh.
Not been funny fella, but it took me 3 minutes to find out this is a gun maintenance kit.
😂
I'd love to see what you come up with for modding this set
Cool tool. I wish it had good scissors like the mini sailor
Love the size of the tool, shame its not got anything I really use on it. Im still carrying an original leatherman PST, its perfect for odd jobs
I love the form factor and build of it but its a gun maintenance tool so the inner tools arnt very useful for me
I’d be interested on this if it had those tools you said. 3d Phillips, prybar flat head and a blade
beefy 1/4 bit driver, knife, file, prybar, combo opener. saw is nice too for whittling projects in woods. But for street use, not that important.
I just wish knipnex just makes their own multitool with their cobra plier head
NO!!!!!! Not a multitool, their plier head with folding handles.
I'll take either of those options
This is the way 😎🤘
I carry a Gerber Armbar Trade. Suits my needs with a bit driver
Well, I (was) going to be (helpful) and point out that the tool configuration signifies that this is more of an armorer's or CCW EDC tool, but this has been clearly communicated over the vast (and often unnecessarily rude) comments section. What I (will) say is mistake or not, thanks for posting this. I was unaware of this tool and will be adding one to my bag. Leopold also makes a tool (similar) to this which I own and is great to have. It doesn't have pliers so the Walther is actually a step up! Cheers!
For EDC, nah im good. But to keep in a range bag, hell yeah! Also this is not meant to just carry, its for taking apart and cleaning guns. Maybe they should make an EDC version.
TY as soon as U said Walther ! U got me sadly as $$ poor DAV unlikely 2 git one. GreaT Guns so no doubt abt tools also. TY sub'd long ago ;)
If you've ever done any kind of low voltage networking or IT networking then you will know that the little hook that you saw on the tool is actually called a Wire Pick which is used for picking through data wires in something like a crossbox or punch down block.
Nice svelte design with so much potential. Would love to this with some much better interior tools. Could totally be marketed as a gentleman’s pocket multitool.
I hope Sog also watch and read the powerpint reviews and mods, beacuse with a better scissor and flat screwdriver it would be perfect
Love the size and form factor, but the rest of the tools would have to improve before I was ready to pay $50 for it. It would be cool to see more manufacturers produce tools with a steel frame and then plastic/G10/micarta "scales".
Well that looks like a multitool I'd actually carry
Cool
Im going to make a multi tool with a rachet. Scissors, and a saw. Other side will hold 1/4" bits for the rachet... doesnt need a knife cause u k ow u already have a pocket knife with u
This is really cool but like u said, u know what u are talking about. Can you make a video of it with your custom tools in it? Would really apreciate a scissor, bit holder or just removing the rest.
When I do, I will
I miss my juice’ good flathead and variety of flathead sizes. I bought the powerpint on the obsessive suggestion. Meh. We’lol see if the juice goes back in the pocket.
Yeah I’m getting one. PPQ baby
I'm curious to see you're awesomeness in action and the end result❤
Looks like a pretty neat and lightweight option. When you said that basically you need only a blade, Phillips head and flathead on the pliers, my question is, doesn't it make more sense to replace the flathead and Phillips head by a hexbit driver, as in the GOAT tool? I'm curious if you'll mod it that way :)
This one is far to small for that..but even if you could..bit drivers can't get into recessed areas.
@@maxlvledc what do you think about a combination with a Leatherman bitholder plus the extender? could that be worth a try? I mean, you're a fantastic modder with an incredible knowledge and skills. do you think it could be worth a try?
Its interesting that Walther is making multi tools.... now.... will they remake the WA2000?
With current toolset it's kind of useless for non-gun person. I feel like the only possible way is to though away all implements and try to squeeze bit exchanger to one handle and scissors + leatherman combo bottle/can opener and wire stripper + #11 blade exchanger all together to second handle.
Cool I want one but Walter knives are slim on quality
Feel like i could pick locks and and cuffs with that
James Bond carried a Walther!!!
Does look like it would do a good job at cleaning a gun. But it’s weird that they wouldn’t put a punch or 2 in there. One small enough for a roll pin and one slightly thicker one
Yes
They did not just throw everything else, they tried to stand out. And they did not think this through 😂
Imma buy it
Which one is the one he says is the best but weighs more?
Kinda like S&W and HK or Winchester knives, this looks like a rebranded B grade tool. I like the thickness though.
