  • These guys are amazing. So professional. To have all those lives in their hands - relying on them to carry them home safely......time after time, after time, after time. Always in awe - partly because they are so cool and (in my eyes) brilliantly intelligent! They'd say otherwise, but I wouldn't believe them. They make something highly technical, intense and precise, seem effortless. That's skill made manifest.

    • Both pilots were captains. It is not uncommon on Aer Lingus who have many long serving staff who they look after and retain. They also have the highest percentage of female flight crew of all major airlines. This flight was just like any other, with consistent high standards and a relaxed efficient flight deck Few people realise that Aer Lingus have not had a crash or person injured during flight in more than 50 years. As you can imagine, they are welcomed by ATC all over the world. Their safety record is even more surprising, due to the constant bad weather blowing across Ireland from the Atlantic. Their have been a few occasions where transatlantic flights have had to touchdown and hold in London while the weather clears, but since the changeover to airbus they are almost a thing of he past. Shannon is quite well protected from severe cross winds, so flights are frequently diverted from Dublin and particularly Cork, both of which are near the coast. Needless to say, passengers do not appreciate the 3 hour coach ride after a long flight.

I hope all of their flights are smooth and safe. Fiona shows everyone just how professional she is. What was once a man's world is routinely being transformed into all who are capable and professional. I will say while all goes well most of the time, it is those times when things don't that really proves who is really good. I hope for Fiona she doesn't have anything too difficult to deal with. • I have noticed that here and in other videos that on landing, both pilots have hands on controls, regardless of who the pilot flying is. If the pilot flying gets in trouble, the other pilot can immediately assume control. Fiona made an excellent maximum crosswind landing. I noticed that immediately on touchdown, the crosswind tried to push the nose of the plane to the left, but Fion corrected with right rudder. She's going to make a great captain. I would like to see more young women get into commercial aviation. The crew was extremely professional and worked well together. Their cockpit discipline once they began their approach was spot on and they maintained that discipline until they got to the gate. No nonsense or unnecessary chatter. You can still get in trouble on the ground! The landing is not completed until the parking brake is set at the gate.

  • As someone who doesn't like to fly, when I watch this crew, I feel like, maybe it's fine. They are so reassuring and professional. And Fiona is so calm, when they were taking off from San Francisco to Ireland, during their climb, she looks out the window and comments on how pretty the city is. Sort of like Joe Montana during a drive in the SuperBowl back in the 80s saying in the huddle, "Isn't that John Candy sitting over there?" LOL Like, she's so cool, nothing rattles her. I just love that!

  • Fiona, you are a bad ass pilot that’s for sure! I’d feel so comfortable knowing you were flying the plane. My cousin was a pilot for 20+ years with Virgin Atlantic. Unfortunately he had to take early retirement because he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He was crushed. Love these videos!

  • It is a pleasure to see professionally produced videos like this. Back when I was a controller and we could ride up front on the jumpseat (pre 9-11) the pilots let me make a video of their landing in Oakland, CA. Me with my camcorder, and just with the normal turbulence it was all I could do to keep the plane's viewscreen somewhere in the picture. Here they have a nasty crosswind, and yet the video is perfect.
