  • Wow Stephanie! I was too excited so I watched straight away 😂 I usually wait until the next morning to watch the new one with my coffee. That is super exciting and I was just reading about when the Sakura trees are in blossom. I really look forward to seeing you share this one. The place you rented is really nice, I showed my daughter who also appreciates that culture, something we share. You will have such a glorious time. Might I say that since watching you, has been a good influence on me in many ways. Along with others who are surrounded by you. Thanks to you all❤ How Lancelot has grown since you got him. Marie I really enjoy when you share your culinary bits as I love it as well.

And, her travels are always so fascinating and inspiring! And, he and Philip's love story to boot ... you couldn't dream this stuff up! Yet, they are living that dream!❤

  • Oh, how lovely! I lived near Kyoto many years ago and have been fortunate to return several times. It is such a special city, with its own culture and dialect. The Kyomachiya you are staying in is so nice. The bath is called an “ofuro”. “Onsen” is with natural mineral hot springs, which I hope you also will experience. I’m impressed with your pronunciation of Japanese words, Stephanie. May you experience Japanese “omotenashi” Kyoto style! 🙏🏻

  • Philip! You should've gone! I was so right! You are in Japan! Use Google translate. You can use your camera to see what you are eating on those packages and any menu. Japan is very clean and respectful people. Just some tips...use the house slippers every time you are in the house. Never wear your outdoors shoes inside. Always say thank you. When eating, especially noodles, you can make delicious sounds to compliment the chef. Trains are always on time, and there is another one arriving soon. The colors for the trains helped me navigate. Where we stayed, I wanted to bring home the entire bathroom with me. My husband keeps telling me he wants to go again. Enjoy the music around the city if you do go....lol Have fun! Hi Micheal!

  • Stephanie, your reaction to traveling alone reminds me so much of myself. I used to be in a marriage with a good man who'd like to take care of things. And because I loved him and wanted to make him happy, I let him. When I had to do those things again on my own, I had completely forgotten I was a capable and assertive woman. It scared me how dependant I had let myself become. Seeing you be proud of something you've done a thousand times before without batting an eye, reminds me an awful lot ot that.

  • Before taking a bath, you have to wash your body outside of the tub. In Japan, they used to share the bath water, so each person of the household would soak, one after the other. They still do this. And they even keep the bath water for other soaks, so they would not waste the water.

  • I must admit that I didn't even considered Japan. It might have been Marie who threw me off when she said that next year hopefully everyone would be joining Stephanie at the mystery location.🍒 So no, cherry blossom season in Kyoto or the Gran Prix in Japan weren't on my radar.🏎️ What an itinerary. It sounds wonderful, magical even. I love the rental. It is exactly what I would expect to find there. The view from the bath is awesome.⛩️ Have fun with friends and a safe return trip. Marie, drying the strawberries is a good idea. They're great added to all kinds of things. I like them in both cold and hot cereal.🍓 They're good in salads too. Philip, enjoy your one-on-one time with Lancelot. ❤ He is just the most precious little dog. ❤ from TX!

It's been almost 40 years since we were in Japan so I'm looking forward to your trip... up in the mountains, Tokyo you will love it all! We were with a tour group for a week... we even braved the metro system from Shinjuku station, took a local train up to the mountains... to the cable cars, with everyone laughing at us! Plus also took another traveller's daughter to Tokyo Disneyland for her 12th birthday, both fun but an experience! I know Michael had a great time at the Aussie Grand Prix, hope he got to see more than the track while he was here. Enjoy Tokyo, it's a fabulous city... ❤🦘

  • Welcome to beautiful Kyoto! I've lived here for 30 years, and this week, Oprah Winfrey also arrived for cherry blossom season. Unfortunately, the weather has not been wonderful. However, there are so many fantastic places to see. Stephanie, I'm sure your schedule is booked up already, but my absolute favorite place in Kyoto is a samurai-turned-poet's home and garden called Shisendo. Also the Namikawa Cloisonne Home and Museum, and Murin-an temple and garden. These are smaller places and won't be as jam packed as the rest of town. Have a wonderful time!!

  • I lived in Japan for 5 years and it is so easy to get around now. There’s an app where you hold your phone over the writing for instant translation. I was thinking this would help Philip with allergies. Google maps will take you to even the exact carriages on a train, so that when you hop off at the destination station, you are the right end to exit and not queuing behind hundreds of others. Japanese people are so lovely and helpful too that you’ll never be lost for long! I hope you have an amazing time in one of the most culturally & historically beautiful cities in the world! I can imagine you’ll enjoy the history, food, silks, art & pottery/ fine china.

He's correct that many, MANY things have sesame in them there. I would hate to see him get sick from such an allergy. You'll be reunited with him soon enough. It's a custom that the house owners leave you a gift and you are supposed to leave them a gift when you leave. We love Japan! We went there 5 years ago and we would love to go back again. Unfortunately, we stayed in an apartment, but we would love to stay in a house like you did Stephanie. When we were in Japan, we did a traditional Japanese tea ceremony dressed in Kimonos, we saw a Geisha show, lots of castles, we saw Sakura (cherry blossoms) and so much more. It was wonderful. We had wanted to go there for many years and it was like a dream when we finally made it there. I'm sure you will enjoy yourselves.

He was working and I had an opportunity to reunite with a friend from America whom I had not seein person for 14 years! It is 11 years since I was last here, and with Olympic fever ramping up, and Notre Dame looking incredible just 5 years after the fire, and the Paris Marathon on today it is just wonderful!! BUT so weird without him! I never travelled with anyone before he and I got together, I was a lone traveller and I loved it - doing whatever I felt like without taking anyone else's whims and desires into account! Now I feel like I am missing something because he is not here spotting things I missed, or knowing things I had no idea about! I loved seeing this, Stephanie! I have seen you in so many different locations, but I didn't expect Japan - even with your hints! Now I want to go there, too!

Great fun! Thank you, Bindi, love from Oz!💛🐝🐝🌼🌻☀️🥳🥳🥳🥳

  • 😊Stephanie & Michael: Warmest welcome to Japan 🇯🇵! This would've been my 1st choice knowing 📷MP's following F1, but I must've missed any talk of planes or airport. 😉Thought I only heard👂of you traveling by 🚅train & bus🚍. Not great on geography 🌏, but that notion seemed farfetched w/o your flying. Happy you both arrived safely🛄〰️that's all that truly matters. Plus, you have found such a handsome little house in Kyoto. Can't wait to see👁👁 more of your exotic Eastern 🎎 adventures... Don't have allergies like Philip, but I am finicky on top of being vegetarian😔. Don't wish to be difficult〰️I am simply squeamish about certain textures, tastes, & scents. Have the least adventurous palette possible, but I could happily subsist on white rice & convenience food w/o growing bored. ✈️ International travel is stressful bcos I wouldn't want to offend😂. Hate to complicate things. Any language barrier only adds another layer of complexity to it. Although it would be soooo hard NOT to over indulge in Japan's scrumptious 😋 sweets. Go to Little Tokyo & China Town in DTLA frequently, but I always order the same handful of familiar dishes (like Philip when he travels). Went to a Thai restaurant here one time thinking veggie fried rice would be a safe option, but was shocked😳 when it had fish🐟 oil in it. Nothing mentioned about that addition in the menu😬. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)

Her fiancé had asked for my permission and told me his plans in February and I had to keep the secret til Saturday. I am not known for keeping secrets very well either, but I did. She had no idea and was so overwhelmed, so even after 7 years together he could still surprise her💍👩🏼‍❤️‍👨🏼

Been watching your channel for so long too. It has helped me to bring the Europe I miss a bit closer to me here in Shenzhen, China. We just came back from Japan last week haha! It was amazing!

  • Stock up on Kit Kats - there are so many flavours - at this time the Sakura one is good. As well as the choices all over each region has its own speciality flavour. As well as Saki, try Umishu - the Japanese Plum liquor which is lovely with or without ice.

  • ha ha! Stephanie, you won't need this advice cause I'm sure you'll find your way. But, take a breather :) Japan is not difficult to find your way! The only time I almost panicked was a day travelling alone when i realized i was 5 levels underground in a train and if there was an earthquake it would be highly unlikely to escape! Tokyo is fun, Kyoto is beautiful. enjoy!
