that was a SCARY performance!!👏Ostapenko on fire and Pav couldn't do anything about it. When Penko on this kind of form she can beat anyone! hope she will play like that at the final and she will win the title. keep going.

This shows how good Jelenas strokes are. That looks like a very slow court and she is still blasting winners. The final should be a good one.
She's always blast a lot of winners. She doesn't mess around playing 20-30 shot rallies like Novak.
Ostapenko looks to be in the best shape in years. Her legs look great, she's moving well, and her net game has improved from all the doubles play.
I saw her legs close up when she was on the training court in Montreal. They are very strong. On TV it doesn't show as much

On match point, just as she go into service motion, Ostapenko kinda squint with left eye, like she drawing back and aiming an arrow to shoot. One of the best serves I ever seen, male or female, on a key point. I think she happy with how she play. I don't know how people, who do well against Ostapenko start the match, but pobably not the best idea to put so much into first game, unless you feel you can overpower her. From what I seen, girl with build like Collins, stronger and taller and fearless, they not gonna roll over for Jelena.

Speedy, Vocal & Powerful Ostapenko, love seeing her play. Her forehand here were like rockets, giving some Andy Roddick vibes😅... even on her worst days her style of play will always beat an Iga swiatek

Awesome performance from Ostapenko whos accuracy, power and placement as well as court-strategy has improved leaps and bounds in the last 2-3 years, this match had the W@W factor ! :)
She transforns into a big bad wolf. Penko used her special brand of radar to create demoralizing new shot, the service return ace, and blithely splashed the sidelines with sonics winner, secured the final spot.

Penko's game is getting better, she's dropping the pounds which has increased her movement and given the power back in her shots. If she can keep the crazy in check I'd say she'll start to rack up some tournament wins! 😎
She has lost weight but I don't think she'll ever be slim like when she won the F.O.

I love alona ostapenko. Slowly but surely,she’s going stronger and stronger. She’s barely injured and work hard . Maybe not on her fitness but the game is going forward. She just have to cut down the UE and the rushing. All she needs is a good draw at the slams.
Used to be such a brat but seems to have cooled down a bit. She's also in better shape than she has been for years and I love her dresses.

The visible sweat stain on the back of Anastasia's skirt could tell you the story. Ostapenko was wearing that behind out. She had Anastasia chasing volleys all match and you can tell Anastasia was gassed and losing some confidence. Ostapenko is like a Heavyweight boxer she hits strong and won't pull punches.

When Osty is "en fuego," you can fuggedaboutit! Fact is, Nastia Pav has stepped up her game of late, looks fitter than ever, and has the kind of firepower to compete with her, yet Osty STILL blew her off the court. You have to catch Osty when she goes through periods of making errors. Steal a set here or there and then hope you get lucky in the decider. If she plays like this in the final, can't imagine anyone beating her. She is WTA's premier slammer talent.

Ostapenko played brilliantly. She completely outplayed and overpowered Pavlyuchenkova in every aspect of the game. Ostapenko was fast, powerful and uncharacteristically for herself consistent. If she will be able to continue to play like this in her tomorrow's final against Alexandrova, she will most likely win in straight sets easily.
Not too sure about that. It could be a tough 3 set match.
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 She already in Adelaide Semi-final defeated her easily in straight sets, plus after yesterday Alexandrova will be very fatigued and the conditions suit Ostapenko's hyper aggressive play style far better, plus against Vekic, Alexandrova played very poorly. Made so many unforced errors and barely scraped past Vekic. Ostapenko won very easily her Semi-final match against Pavlyuchenkova firing 34 aces and 13 unforced errors. If Ostapenko will keep this up, she will win easily this match.

Shes done WAYYY better since losing 20 lbs recently, and decided to design/sew some better tennis outfits also. shes great to watch, except when her being bratty on the court occasionally...

Ostapenko's feet shuffling/squeaking during the opponent's serve is hideous. It's such a low rent tactic. Should absolutely be called a hindrance.
I don't think it affects the server much tbh. It is consistent and you can't blame a big girl like her for getting her feet moving
@@alexlackner1945 It 100% is distracting. If you watch closely, it's less to do with preparation and more of a tactic to throw the server off. Find me another player that does something similar. This is not a split step.
@@smithjoe321 who said you're only allowed a splitstep and nothing else? This is more like "happy feet" and for a woman of her size i think it makes a lotta sense. She does it all the time so a server should be able to handle it in my opinion. Have her opponents complained about it?
I mean you hear the squeaking all the time during rallyes, do you not find it distracting there? Even if it was a tactic, i don't think it would bother me. PS: i just looked at her French Open final in 2017 and she does the exact same thing on clay, only nothing's squeaking there.
@@alexlackner1945 During rallies, yes, in the normal flow of a point and changing directions. You can be called for a hindrance when someone is hitting an overhead and you repeatedly tap your racquet on the ground. I've seen it called in pro matches. This seems like something similar.
