Blue Origin Is Preparing To Launch New Glenn!

2024 ж. 19 Мам.
26 197 Рет қаралды

Blue Origin is a company that usually keeps most of its progress and developments to itself. This left the majority of people under the impression that New Glenn, the company’s next-generation launch vehicle, was still many years away from an actual flight test. Earlier today, however, the company shared some significant new information.
This included an image of both a test-ready first and upper stage of New Glenn being mated in the company’s hanger. This marks the first time the company has done this and is a major step in the goal of launching the rocket later this year. Here I will go more in-depth into the new update from Blue Origin, what we know about the flight later this year, upcoming tests, and more.

However, if this thing gets off the ground this year, the competition it will create in the US’ private space industry will be monumental in keeping us ahead of the CCP in the space race. I welcome the competition between companies; even with me having invested a lot of my own money into Rocket Lab, the more competition that’s ignited in these private space companies; the better. The successful ULA Vulcan launch provoked a change of tack by SPX FBs: from contemptuous dismissals of ULA to sullen resentment as reality sunk in, i.e."The Sulks". Now, with BO New Glenn launch only months away, the SPX FBs denial process kicks in again: contemptuous dismissals of BO. Once New Glenn does successfully launch (this IS inevitable) we will once again see sullen resentment by SPX FBs, i.e. "The Sulks, Part Two" (this is ALSO inevitable ). Why don't we take a look at the simple facts blue origin is 24 years old ....and yet tell me again exactly how many Rockets they put into orbit in 2 1/2 fucking decades? Last time I checked those Be4 engines were spose to fly in 2019 so I think they missed their delivery date by just a chunk. Problem with new Glenn is by the time they get it up and running is technology will be getting Antiquated rapidly with other Rockets coming online that are 100% reusable.

Gee look at that building so many Rockets laying around clearly they have the second and third ones ready to go they're just invisible.

    • Since SpaceX fans are not too hard to read this is my list of what they will say to dismiss Blue Origin’s coming achievements. New Glenn successful launch-will move goalposts to talk about rapid reusability and the Falcon 9 has been rated for up to 40 flights per booster. Blue Moon cargo pathfinder landing on the Moon- either they will make it out to not be that big of a feat or will dismiss it due to no payloads being carried. Blue Moon cargo lander with payloads lands on moon- they will just point at another company that has already done it and say it’s not that difficult and state SpaceX has starlink payloads to fly which is why it hasn’t landed on the moon yet. Orbital Reef launches- they will try to minimise Blue Origin’s contribution to the station as much as possible by saying the core modules are just useless pressure vessels with big windows.

And...what's leading anyone to believe that a second launch isn't going to also be years behind schedule? To be a viable launch vehicle they need to have 3 or 4 more being built RIGHT NOW. But they don't and are seemingly struggling to get this first one to the pad. And again to be a viable competitor to SpaceX they need to be able to crank out the BE-4's fast enough to populate the NG and Vulcan's which doesn't seem to be happening while SpaceX is building Raptors and Merlin's at a comparatively frantic pace. Looks to me that this will be a very limited launch vehicle that has NO chance of being commercially successful which means that it'll only survive by sucking tax dollars from a Congress who wants to have a second launch company rather than just support SpaceX..which would be the smarter and more economical decision.

    • Two worked flawlessly on Vulcan just a few weeks ago, and it gives Blue lots of data on how 7 of them will work on New Glenn. With at least one more launch on Vulcan in the coming months before New Glenn's first flight at the end of this year, along with static firings of NG's 1st stage, they'll know. On top of that, unlike Vulcan, the BE-4s on NG don't have to fire for nearly as long.

    • Depends entirely on how much you charge for the launch, and how much you consider the first launch as part of the R&D budget.

    • The launcher IS reusable! Where have you been, Mars? BO New Glenn is reusable, can launch 35 tonne max. to LEO and lands in one piece. SpaceX Falcon Heavy is reusable, can launch 10 tonne max. to LEO and lands in three pieces. Guess which launcher the Space Industry is most interested in?

    • That's not in question. The question was, is it still economic to run it in expendable mode? This might be done, for example, for extremely heavy lifts to LEO, or for high delta v for an interplanetary probe. Would a New Glenn be an economically viable choice, or would moving to a different platform be cheaper? This is a valid question, because *if* New Glenn were used in expendable mode it would theoretically rival the performance of SLS.@@davidstevenson9517
