  • Excellent! It's easy to make your OWN sauerkraut from organic cabbage, and a head of cabbage is far less per pound than refrigerated pre-made sauerkraut. It just takes salt, a mason jar, and some time to ferment (a couple of weeks). Also, speaking of kraut, make sure your naturally fermented stuff doesn't have preservatives; some do, for real...no, really, they do...and it kills *all* the bacteria.

    • Heating above a certain temp also kills the good bacteria. I forget the exact temp because I never cook mine anyway. I make my own fermented sauerkraut and it never comes near my stove or oven. After going through the work of slicing, massaging and waiting for my good probiotics to grow, I’m not about to ruin it by heating it. Loving raw, cold sauerkraut makes it a delicious easy food for me. I love it so much. Especially IF you can find sauerkraut that’s not only organic, but was let in the ground until it gets hit with a “Light” frost. That light frost turns those cabbage juices sweet. There’s a noticeable difference and it’s delicious.😋 What you notice when you eat fermented foods regularly… Not much, at first. When you notice it is when you’ve run out and not had any for a week or two. You definitely notice the difference in how much better you feel when you eat it regularly. I’ve been out of my favorite sauerkraut for months- years really. I became really sick due to complications of 30 years of ESRD. Since that time I’ve developed enough other issues that I don’t have the strength or stamina to grate my cabbage & massage it like is required to make good lactobacillus, anaerobic, fermented sauerkraut. I really miss doing my own cooking from scratch with whole, organic food that I’ve raised myself or know the farmer who did. Our health is everything. I learned that lesson too late. Don’t be like me, when I was young thinking I was invincible so I was completely ignorant about just how important it is to take care of our health while we have it. Once gone, it’s hard to get back and in some cases, like mine impossible.

      @saltycrow@saltycrowАй бұрын
    • @@saltycrow Enjoyed your post; thanks for adding! Youth is wasted on the young, LOL - I learned _everything_ "too late!" My health, too, is irreparably damaged, but I'm doing better, and hope you are, too, than I would have been if I'd never learned. I guess it's really never too late...I've been obsessing over Billy Joel's new single, "Turn the Lights Back On" and the official AI video that is truly like magic. That's the message...how we all wonder if we are "here right now," but it's too late.

So if you find yourself having worsening health issues after consuming these, you might have a histamine intolerance. I personally cannot digest Avocados very well and they make my lips itchy along with other gut issues when consuming them.

    • I have bought organic and GMO free my whole adult life (I am 44) and people think I am crazy to spend so much on groceries, but I think it is worth it because of the health benefits. I don't have a doctor except a Naturopath I see occasionally, and have not had a prescription of any kind since I was 21 and had an abscess tooth. I see the health issues of people around me and know it is worth it. I also do a lot of buying in bulk and shop sales of course to keep it affordable. I live in Canada and this year organic butter reached $14.59/lb so I have started cooking with coconut oil and making my own grass fed tallow. It takes some effort, but eating healthy is possible!

  • We buy the Lifeway Organic Plain Whole Milk kefir. I then add a whole bottle to the blender (we have five daughters) and then add frozen fruit and veggies. They still get flavored without the cane sugar.

    • Well said. I have looked at their organic plain kefir and find nothing wrong with it. It's probably the best that's available to us locally also.@@servantwarrior880

  • Can you please do a video on non dairy/vegan alternatives. Some of your videos touch on this which is great but in particular I’m interested in the “healthiest” vegan cheese. So many of them have inflammatory oils and ingredients.

  • Try olives in your cottage cheese. Yummy polyphenols in olives and a nice savory taste.

  • Yes well mate I live in Australia and have for a very long time now been interested in keeping my gut healthy after reading that book by Giulia Enders "The Gut" and i have been taking Kefir Filmjolk and yoghurts for a long time. Now sadly the products you seem to have access to in the US are not really available out here in Australia and I find that most Kefir and yoghurt products (I especially like Greek yoghurt) have carbohydrates and sugar ingredients although in small quantities. So we are behind the eight ball in keeping our guts healthy.

    • I come from a family of 8 growing up in the 50s/60s when all the processed foods started My eating habits are terrible. At 71, I realize so many health issues of mine are coming from processed foods, sugar and carbs. I’m addicted to those foods. I know now I have leaky gut and obviously have had it most of my life. It’s thru the roof now where I have to make radical changes in my eating. I would suggest getting your children off of processed food and white sugar. You could make your own yogurt and kefir but healthy eating habits are key. After watching Bobby, I realize 80% of grocery store food items are garbage. Wish I would have been taught this as a child. I believe it caused my depression, skin issues, allergies etc etc. Whole Foods cooking at home is key. I need to teach myself what that is now. Will be shopping only the perimeter of the stores from now on. You’ll save in the long run with healthy family. Also, I overeat on junk food. When I eat healthy food, I find I don’t get hungry and I don’t crave. Those store bought cookies, chips, etc are super expensive. You probably know this but I still felt compelled to write my story. You’re doing the right thing for your family. 👍🏼

    • You can make the sauerkraut yourself at home! I make it myself and it's delicious and easy to do. You just need cabbage, salt, a clean container and a dry and dark spot of the kitchen where to store it
