  • Savage Geese, IMO provides some the most technical and unbiased reviews available. Thank you for another well prepared, well presented and amazing review of this GT4 RS

    @ScienceBuildingGuy@ScienceBuildingGuy2 жыл бұрын
    • Yep. I think Savagegeese truly represents what driving enthusiasts are about. They love driving for the sake of driving, not for the outright speed or bragging rights that certain cars give you. Car guys are not created equal and I think it's rare that automotive journalists are so honest about where their allegiances lie. No it's not going to keep up with a Ferrari SF90 in a straight line, and with the advent of Tesla and the current turbo trend, this car is downright 'slow' for the $125k+ category, but it is still far too fast for public roads. That's simply not what most automotive journalists would admit because they're so inundated with high power cars. But driving enjoyment is rarely rarely about outright speed for many of us in the community. I own a C7 and it is MUCH faster than the miata or mustang I had before. Yes walking up to and getting out of the car the C7 kills the other two in 'curb appeal'. It's 'cooler' less of a hairdresser car, etc and yes that speed is thrilling and the sound of the V8 is intoxicating, but every single time I take a turn, I just wish I was in a miata or mustang instead. Why? Because I instead of being 30 mph over the speed limit, and feeling like I'm going slow, I would only be 10 over, and FEEL like I was going 50 over. The corvette is simply too fast to be 'fun' on most roads even with only 465 Hp because you always feel like you're only using 40% of the cars performance. In my mustang & miata, I could use 75-90% of everything they could give nearly all the time and so there was a lot more drama and excitement on the street.

  • When I was young, our rich neighbour had many wonderful cars. I helped him maintain them and he took me with him for the rides. It was the gran turismo era, peoples where buying fast cars to cover long distances in minimal time, mechanical gems that where incredibly connected to you. I remember myself roaming our little mountain street as a passenger with our neighbour's Lamborghini Diablo, Espada, with the Ferrari F360... those where moments of pure bliss, just remembering them makes me tear up. If I had the money, I would buy myself this Cayman 718 GT4RS or an LFA in a heartbeat.

  • Perfection on video. 1 of those cars I'll remember this forever. Porsche is a manufacturer who knows what they do and who their demographic is. Yes their products do cost a lot of money but you're not just buying a car but a lifestyle. Nothing even comes close to the experience you're getting once you set foot inside a dealership! Thanks Mark an Jack for this feature. Once again it shows what you get when you bring your a-game to a manufacturer who actually cares!

But I cant ever see myself being able to realistically afford one. Maybe in 20 years. But by then I think our roads will be a lot different and there certainly wont be a Cayman like this avaliable. Hopefully the world lets us have cars like these for a few more years and I can at least get into a GTS 4.0L before they go the way of the dinosaur.

Cayman competes with supercars in terms of the overall experience (build quality, engine location, etc.). It's also quite a bit faster to 60 and in the 1/4 mile so I'm not sure ZL1 would beat it around a track - 992 GT3 is a full 5 seconds faster than ZL1 1LE. ZL1, like C8, is an impressive beast in its own regard but it's not really competing with Porsches.

    • I haven't seen the Cayman lap time yet, the GT3 is a $180k car so I would hope it would win. The real test is the new Z06

    • @@fzr1000981 GT4 is 5 s behind ZL1 at VIR, GT3 is 5 s ahead. Figure something in the middle for GT4 RS with a better p/w ratio but still strut front suspension. ZR1 will be interesting given that so far only influencers have had access to it and the whole car is priced like what I would expect the engine alone to cost. I imagine it will be GT4 RS money after dealer markups, too.

    • I think you mean the new Z06 not the previous ZR1

  • The fact that Porsche is releasing this version of a Cayman means it's over for NA GT cars. This is it. If you don't get one, I hope you like electric, or if you're lucky turbo powered Porsches.

  • Sounds amazing. If I had 150k to spend on a toy (and could get an allocation) my perfect version would be this without the rear wing and with a manual. Touring edition if you will. Love that the 86 is in the background during final thoughts, as it is what Subaru/Toyota did if you want a cayman on a budget.
