  • I'm not too concerned about the potential result against Iga, I just want her to be genuinely injury-free and for that to continue for the rest of the year. It's probably too soon for her to get on top of Iga on clay, but the last 4 matches are starting to look very promising for her return to the tour. If she stays fit for the rest of the year, she'll be back in the top 30 easily. Maybe even higher....

    • Second set she didn't keep the aggression up - kept playing the short balls hard but too short and on the slow surface that didn't work too well. If she's sorted that out then it would probably have been more like 6-2. Will need to fix that for Iga.

  • Watched the entire match live….. 3 things stood out about Emma’s game that Linda found difficult to deal with 1) Emma’s first serves won her many cheap points, and she had zero double faults 2) her returns were often rocket-like and landing away at Linda’s backhand corner or exactly at Linda’s feet, jamming her 3) very few unforced errors - 4 in first set, zero in second set.

    @kenzone@kenzone13 күн бұрын
    • you're not entirely right, in the second set there was a completely unnecessary error that could have been crucial and cost Emma the whole match - that was at 3:4 and 30-40, when Emma missed an easy volley. • From the sport standpoint, there's nothing better than Emma's win tonight, because not many fans would be exaited in Iga's enother match against Noskova... Emma won her 4th match in a row, and she was playing very well in all of them... The last time she had such a streak was during USO 2021... And today she didn't even get too tired... Noskova was hailed as the future number one too early after winning against Iga at AO...

    @axelltullup2638@axelltullup263813 күн бұрын
    • 'hailed too early' ironic to say that about someone else when Emma herself is the biggest offender, after all a 4 match winning streak is nothing to right home about yet that is the most Emma won in more than 2 years. Against Iga, Noskova has been a better challenge, Emma loses straightforward to Iga

She is probably a future top 10 but number one, I don't know...there are just too many good young players, starting with Iga that is only 22 and then there is Coco Gauff that is 20 and let's not forget Mirra Andreeva that is only 16y but is already in the top 50.

She's not in the shape she will be yet. Iga is supposed to win. As long as Emma makes it a decent match, then she's proven herself to this point. I'm already stoked she went this far.

With Iga, her chances are fifty-fifty. As long as Emma doesn't lose tomorrow's game in the locker room or in the hotel room the night before the game.

    • Is this about the time when she told Emma 'It might have been out but you have to protest straight away you can't wait until you see how you do before protesting'? That seems to be wrong. You have to play the point because your protest - even if it's correct - might not be upheld. If the ball was out, that's the end of the point, no matter what happens afterward. But then I don't know whether there are specific rules about protesting calls, which there probably are. Bout time these venues had Hawkeye.

    • @@BenjWarrant You can also imagine that no out is called during your opponent's serve and you instinctively hit the ball (everyone hits it) and it also goes out and the point is awarded to your opponent, because you could have stopped your intuitive reflex ;))

But Iga lost with Alexandrova lately. Tennis this is only sport. Only game. Only play for fun. Everything is possible. Maciej Synówka, Polish commentator and coach who worked with Urszula Radwańska (Aga's sister), with Belinda Bencic and Coco Vandeweghe, said that many girls don't sleep well before important match. Both can kinda see pot of gold at end of rainbow, from match to match. So they taking each match more serious, than maybe the top players or the ones, who happy where they are. Noskova wipe out Ostapenko, last match. That a big win. Anyway. Quarterfinal gonna be interesting. My really cool player, a lot of excitement.
