Recently, I've been thinking about what are my values in life. What are the things I try to live by when I wake up? This inspired me to go out and ask people the same questions and share the stories with you all! I hope you enjoy.

I don't even know if my answers officially count as "values", but you guys get what I mean haha. Share with me what your values are in life! :)
Very interesting subject! Excited for the video 🍿
My grandfather was my most important person growing up. He always sad "be the best you can and be grateful for each good day". The both of us have always been chronic sick so a good day was awesome. Also a few real friends are way more important than 100 people on your birthday. 😊
OMG thats were i live. Hoped you liked it in de Naarden-Vesting. A really historical place with a lot of stories.
It was beautiful!
One of my values is to accept people as they are, and accept life as it comes. Then there is this: Years ago I was studying abroad and felt a bit lost. Then, in a moment of clearness, I thought that the other exchange students probably felt the same. And decided to say something nice to someone every day. This was the best decision of my life. Because I started to find positive things to say when I met someone, but that became second nature after some time. So now when I see someone, I immediately notice little nice things. After some time I became a teacher and took it one step further. At the beginning of a class I checked the presentation list without looking at the class. To find out if I had really see every student, and no one slipped from my attention. So I trained myself to really notice people, because I think it’s important. Needless to say I never felt lost again in my life because I’m to busy to with other people. And the last one is the same as the man enjoying his ice cream. Enjoy life as it is. These values made me a pathological happy person. Edit: I answered your question before watching the video, nice to find people mentioning the same things as I did. Including yourself. A beautiful video.
Really great story you shared here! Nice to see how those slight changes had a huge impact on your outlook on life! Glad you enjoyed the video😃
To treat people, like i want to be treated
Aha, I hear my mom talking: don’t do to others, what you don’t want to be done to yourself. Excellent guidance in life.
Great one!
Hey Sam! It was so lovely meeting you yesterday - thanks for interviewing us :) Your channel is awesome. Keep producing such meaningful content 👏
Hey, Luke!! Thank you for your time yesterday! I also found it great to meet you two yesterday and really appreciated your words. Glad you got to watch the video and that you enjoyed it!
My core value in life is to stay true to yourself. Be who you want to be, work towards the dreams you create for yourself and share the process with the people that love and support you. Most of all, enjoy and trust the process! 🧡 Amazing video as always Sam! Can't wait to see what's next! 😉
I love that, Eva! Thanks for sharing! And yes, stay tuuuuuned for what's all upcoming! haha
A big one of mine is acceptance for whatever life throws at me. It’s my biggest strength and my biggest weakness though. I stay cool in stressful situations, I can accept a less than ideal situation pretty quick without complaining about it and actually turn it around to make it a postive experience. (Pouring rain on wedding day for example) But I also stay in situations that are dangerous, toxic or just bad for me because I accept whatever situation I’m in. Another big one is faithfulness/loyalty, also a big strength and weakness. If you have my loyalty, you have it forever. I’ll stand by you no matter how you treat me. No matter how you treat me. I’ll never ever walk away from a relationship/friendship/marriage. Even if it’s for the best.
How awesome you have visited my home town! I agree 100% with the dog walking lady Naarden is one of the best places to live in. My values in life are love, supporting other people, honesty and respect. Oh, by the way, I just bought you some coffee. Enjoy!
Your hometown is beautiful! I'll definitely be going back there. Great values that you have there. And HUGE thanks for the support via the coffee. It really means a lot!
Yet another absolutely amazing video of yours! As a current American with goals and aspirations to one day also move out of the country and live in The Netherlands, your videos have been (for quite some time) an amazing outlet for me to explore alternate, external perspectives, as well as even see many sights of the country! And with your very charismatic and friendly personality, your videos and interviews truly make for something special, and... truly... thank you so much for what your content has done for me, and I'm sure for many others! It's always an absolute pleasure to see new uploads from you, and I hope you only continue to make the amazing content you always do! Much love! ❤😊
Wow, this is a really special comment! Huge huge thanks for sharing this🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 where are you from in the States and what has you interested in living in the Netherlands?😃
@@exploringtheforeign I'm actually from Louisiana! 🙂Lived there 18 years now :) As for why I've been interested in moving? For the longest time it was just because it was so beautiful, and I have a couple family members that live in Amsterdam too! Now though? Coincidentally enough, I happened to stumble across a few great new Dutch friends within the past year or so, and hearing their experiences and wanting to grow closer with them has certainly made me more interested! 😄At the very least, I plan on visiting for a couple weeks next summer to finally get to see the country in person for the first time and visit friends and family, and, if all goes well, I plan on moving there in a few years! :) The people, the inclusivity, the positivity, the greater connection to nature even... it's all really refreshing to see, and hear about from my friends too!
I've even been learning Dutch for the past half a year too! And your videos and channels have also helped tremendously with that, so thank you! :)
@@Torchic_NickWat goed! Ik hoop dat het lukt. Succes met Nederlands leren!
@@nfboogaard Dankjewel!
HI Sam, good to see Highly combustible ( Paul) reacting to one of your videos, 😂, the floor thing was hilarious, i had seen it already on your channel, but it was so funny watching it again, and Paul is right, you make great videos and getting better...😊
Haha yeah that was really funny/fun to see! And thank you for the kind feedback🙌🏾
Great video Sam. The most important value for me is that we are no more and no less than others. We are all equal and we all have our good and bad things. You have to know your ABC. ABC stands for Always Be Considerate. ❤❤❤
Thank you, Michel!! And great words!
My values are probably very similar to yours. I just want a comfortable life which feels fulfilling to me. I don't need too many luxuries, but I do want to be happy and healthy, and have a comfortable place to call home. The rest of any luxuries (holidays, festivals, going out, etc.) are all a bonus and usually a pleasant surprise. And I love sharing positive energy/vibes too, especially with loving friends and family, and nothing makes me happier than having them share theirs with me too!
Wonderful values! Thank you for sharing! :)
Beautiful, Sam! I enjoy that you film all around the Netherlands. Naarden seems like such a peaceful city. Everyone was so thoughtful and sincere and that’s very endearing. And what a wise cat! Best answer ever. 😂 My values are very much in alignment with many of the people you spoke with; like the woman walking her dog said, just "to be able to walk" in peace - aka “freedom to just be.” The value of feeling safe is also priceless. I suppose “safe” and “free” are along the same vein, but those are the two things I value the most. Along with honesty and respect. ✌🏾☮
Hey, Dashawn! Always great seeing you in the comments :) Glad you enjoyed the video; Naarden is definitely a beautiful city to stop in! Great values you share as well, and yeah, the cat was great! haha
Lol, I think I was a cat in a past life 😼. I'm curious to know, how do you choose where you are going to film? Are these places you have visited before, or do you just randomly pick a spot and go?
Honestly, it's a mix of random and planned haha. So this video for example, earlier that day I was at an event for my Dutch classes and I asked a fellow student for suggestions on where to shoot a video and she gave me this city! So I went and did it same day haha. But other times, there's a particular event or something in a city I want to cover, so I already have it planned.
Another awesome video, My Baby!!!! I value my faith because without it I’m lost. I value my family because they keep me grounded and focused on what really matters. I value my time because it’s something I can’t get back and should not be wasted. I value relationships because human connections is what helps a person feel less alone in the big world. I love you❤
Beautifully said, mom! Love youuuuu
Same as you already said. I don't know if these things reaaly count as values but I do feel they're important. Therefore I'd like to share them. For me I've got two main values. Of course there are others but these resonate the most with me. The first one is: expectations are the thieves of joy. So I try to not expect to much of myself. The person I was 5 years ago is probably jealous of the position I am in today. The second is: the most fun can be had outside your comfort zone. I always lock myself up in my own home while the world has so much to offer. Sometimes I just need to get over myself and I always find out that I'm having way more fun that way.
Thank you Sam, for who you are and try to be.
Thank you!
I really enjoy your video's. I moved from the Netherlands when I was 10 and I still love the culture. Your video's allow me to enjoy a bit of the Dutch culture without fiscally being there. Thank you so much ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍🤗!!
This is really awesome to hear! Thank you! Where did you move to?
I came to the Netherlands to live (and hopefully stay for ever) from Argentina on July 11th. I did watch your previous videos and those helped me make my mind that the Netherlands should be my place to go to once I got my Italian citizenship (seeking a better place to live). I do feel a lot of peace in here, everything is so peaceful and "quiet" in a way (maybe not noise, but the ambience feels so pleasant and peaceful). I do like that, but I have to get used to it because, in Buenos Aires City, we have chaos everyday and huge buildings (not like NYC), but also using public transport is a little bit of chaos and here it is so perfectly thought, balanced, and easy to use that looks so perfect (perfection is boring). Still, I do love this place and I hope we cross paths one day and I can say hi to you in person! P.S.: I am looking for a truly good Japanese restaurant serving Ramen and Udon, I was not able to find one good place that also is not extremely expensive, do you happen to have any recommendations (In Amsterdam or any place honestly)
Oh wow, that's crazy to hear that these videos helped solidify your decision on moving here! I could definitely imagine that there's a big contrast in terms of peace/organization here compared to Buenos Aires. I lived in Sanitago Chile for 1.5 years so I experienced a bit of the life in South America (which I loved) and I could understand how life here is an adjustment. Feel free to hit me up on instagram or via email if there are any questions you have and it would be dope to cross paths one day! As far as ramen/udon recommendations, I don't eat those foods unfortunately, so I don't have any personal recs, but hopefully this can help: bondeparture.com/best-ramen-spots-in-amsterdam/
@@exploringtheforeign Thank you so much for your content and the food recommendation! You are an absolute legend ❤
Thanks, man!!
Great video again! This topic shows how Dutch people see the world, and how this may be different than in your culture! Beautiful calming, nice and great-edited video! Keep the work up💪💪
Amen!!
Good video, I like the format
Appreciate it! It's been a while since I got around to doing just a street interview video and I was missing it. Glad you enjoyed the final product🙌🏾
Sam i have to say i really like the content of your videos you are an underrated creator and i'll support you as much as i can! Values ..well it's quite simple don't do stupid things think a few seconds or in some cases a minute before you just go right ahead and do ..i think in one word it means thoughtful or: Attent in Dutch.
Haha, thank you! Knowing there are supporters of the channel like you keeps me inspired and passionate about making these videos. And I think being attent is a great value.
I'm very much a live in the moment type of person, because you never know which day will be your last. So enjoy time with your loved ones, don't wait to do the things you want to do, take the opportunities that come along.
Hi Sam! Just found your channel. Watched 3 videos so far. First of all, WOW to your Dutch, youre doing really well. My British partner could learn a thing or two 😂. This is a great video, going a bit deeper into the culture of NL, youre a great interviewer and listener.
Hey! Really nice to have you here, I hope you enjoy the videos :) Thank you for the compliments! For my Dutch, I'm trying to improve it more and more each day. I'd be more than happy to give your partner some tips!
1. Stilstand is niet altijd achteruitgang. (it's ok to stop every once in a while to reflect back on the past and reevaluate) 2. Behandel de mensen in jouw level net zoals jij zelf graag behandeld zou willen worden. (treat the people in your life the same way you would like to be treated) 3. Respect is een tweerichtingsweg. (respect is a two way street) 4. (act normal, you're already crazy enough)
Very nice video Sam! Value to me means, not to take anyone or anything for granted. For example: Me and my husband were on our honeymoon in Nova Scotia. We went on several whale watch tours. We saw a lot of Pilot Whale’s. After we saw the third pod, I started to get annoyed that we weren’t looking for other whale species. I kinda was in shock that I was thinking that way, because at one point I realized I probable will never see them again! I also took my husband (back then my boyfriend) for granted. It almost ended our relationship. That’s when I vowed to never take anything for granted.
Thank you! And I think that that's a great value that you shared. Thanks for opening up a bit!
Values change with the years things change in life hopes situations, a positive mind as much as possible eases things to a certain extent. When you get older contacts friends become less due to deaths mostly or those young enough work and family i think its just lifes circle our parents grandparents had much the same type of changes must just go with the flow as much as possible. Sure respect for others helpful when can and not to judge another before you walk in their shoes. Most of what was said in the video i agree with including the ice cream guy lol.
Great words, John! I agree, values definitely can change over time based on life situations, circumstances, etc. Thank you for sharing :)
@@exploringtheforeign thanks for understanding things dont always go how we would like and no matter how hard we try to do the right thing theres always someone with problems who dosnt think and spoils the day because of their suffering. A smile a friendly hi go's a long way it might make a real difference to someones day.Keep up the good work and enjoy the new week Sam even as wet as it is lol.
for me its; _honesty (at the very least be true to yourself, a minimize your lies to the absolute minimum) _strenght (especially in the face of heartship and adversity) _love (be on your guard, but approach with love non-the-less) _family (speaks for itself)
Super mooie woorden! Dankjewel! En jij hebt echt goede waarden!
For me its: treat others like you want to be treated. My mother learned that to me as a kid.
Mooi!
I’m liking the Blaxploitation/Tarantino kinda font!
Thanks! I was just scrolling through different fonts and really liked this one when I saw it haha.
P.L.U.R. Is a way of life. Peace love unity respect. Peace a state of mind. Positive energy always causes elevation. ✌🏻😃
Wonderful!
To have drop❤
Naarden Vesting ❤❤❤
sam your youtube videos are 1 of my values 👍
Means a lot, Harry!!
respect is something you can gain and achieve but it isnt something you can expect to get.. respect i have for people who are respectfull to me and dont act like some major jerk saying things like respect me for this and that...
There is only one: money, money and once again, money.
Wait, don't you want to be rich? Have the latest iPhone? Tesla? Don't denounce your roots and your culture, man! E: I just want to have a positive impact on the people I care about, and not to be a bother to others.
Haha, nope, those things don't matter much to me. And I like your response about the positive impact!
@@exploringtheforeign Whoa! I got sarcasm right! Thanks, Sam.
The only real value in life has a name. Jesus Christ is all one needs.
