Marlis with her Deer in the Yard 2019

Marlis with her deer in the yard.
The baby fawns have grown quite a bit in the last couple of months. Strangely, Braveheart, a very friendly 4 year old buck, is still hanging out with his mother and the rest of the herd. Most of the bucks have wandered off on their own. Braveheart seems quite happy to be a family guy.
Braveheart, like most of the deer, sees our scratching as the same as when they groom each other. Braveheart, when he gets scratched always will lick back, if he can reach you! In the video at one point Braveheart is licking Marlis so hard on her arm, that it begins to hurt a bit. Their tongues are very rough and very strong. It has to be to get through all that fur, but on a naked human arm, it can sometimes be too strong! However, he doesn't know that. He's just being his sweet self.

  • Deer are such beautiful and peaceful animals. You must be such wonderful, gentle, and special people for these deer to trust you this much and they keep coming back to you every year. That is so beautiful.

  • Dearest Marlis and Rasa, I’ve admired yu so...from the very first video yu two made. Such kind, very patient, loving people yu two are. As your relationship with your herd continues to mold, vary and evolve-your demeanor with your beloved deer doesn’t. You’re a REAL family! All of God’s creations living in perfect harmony. You’ve taught me some great values, dearest friends. Lovingly, Deb from So.Utah

  • All creatures great and small crave affection and acceptance, why is it that people cannot let go of petty things and learn from such gentle souls. Leaves me speechless in our current political environment.

    • Animals aren't just gentle you know. Nice to know people still passively select only the good qualities of animals but choose to forget their other darker sides to them.

  • Has anyone else noticed that Marlis' quiet, growly voice sounds alot like a mother Deer calling to her fawns? They must view her as some kind of Matriarch. You can almost see them try to understand when she speaks to them ^^

    • Every species is a predator of sorts. Certain individuals of all species become aggressive when they feel threatened. For years already there are lots of divers proving that many species of sharks respond naturally to human kindness. They don't prey on humans, they attack a human when they mistake it for another species. Sharks love to have their bellies rubbed, they love to cuddle...are very zen and beautiful.

  • Braveheart has not left to go on his own, why not? Because he gets all the love and affection he needs. Stop petting him. Dont allow his mother to lick him anymore. He needs to go out in to the forest on his own!

    @orangeziggy348@orangeziggy3483 жыл бұрын
    • "Dont allow his mother to lick him anymore." - that's sweet. It may look like we have any control over what they do, but they are wild. They only visit us because we live on "their property." Braveheart spent plenty of time off on his own, so no need to worry. It may look like the deer are with us all the time, but they are always on the move. They just have a small area they wander around in, and they end up stopping by our house once a day.
