Deer love getting their big ears scratched

Susie and her sister Sandy really love getting scratched, and they really love that attention to their ears.
Wild deer are very skittish. Susie is the only deer I know who will let me sit down next to her when she's laying down. All the other deer will at least stand up, if not jump away from me if I get too close. If I'm not extremely conscious when I approach Susie, she too will jump up. Deer are insanely aware and suspicious of the body language of other critters. If I approached her too fast, or holding some strange object she doesn't know, she would at least stand up and take a good look at me.
One of my favorite meditations is hanging out with these dear sweet deer.

A note about Lucky and his injured leg...
I named him lucky so that maybe he'd have better luck in the future. In January he got a plastic water float somehow wrapped around his back leg. It was cutting off the circulation in that leg, and he was limping all the time. The leg looked horrible, and he was way too skittish to get close to and maybe cut the thing off. I tried with no luck. We contacted state Fish and Wildlife control. They came out, tranquilized him, cut off the float, treated the wound, and then tagged him so they could keep track of him. He comes in my yard almost every day, so I could see the leg pretty quickly getting better and better. With the float around his leg he couldn't use that leg at all. Now he is able to put more and more pressure on that leg every day, and it seems to be healing pretty well.
