This is antique axe restoration video, I bought this axe only 3$ from the recycle shop.
In this videos I recorded it step by step the process of polishing axe blade & insert axe handle.
I hope you find something useful & enjoy from this video!
I am happy to receive your feedback, advices, suggestions to improve myself.
!!! I make this video for just curious & challenge, so please accept my apologies if I have made mistake in this restoration !!!
--------------Thank you so much for Like & Comments--------------
I really like the design of the axe head. I found an old half rust eaten hewing axe head from the 1800s in my dad's backyard in Bremerton, WA. A few YT videos later and a couple gallons of vinegar and some TLC, now it hangs as an awesome piece of art in my brother's house with a red cedar bark frame and a curly maple handle. Just do it👍
Sound interesting with your axe, thank for sharing!
Bet an Indian back in the olden days would've loved to have that !!
I have got to go to the he recycling shop he goes to. USD 3 for an axe head?! Good find and great restoration.
It would never have been that shiny when it was new. And I agree with alot of others about grinding off the makers mark.
Love the work, but why grind off the makers mark?
BEAUTIFUL !
Bearded axes are really cool looking.
Very super nice, beautiful, fantastic, handy, out of this world little bearded axe be respectful with it🤘🤘🤘🤘🇧🇪 gods of Valhalla would be proud of you! Raise your horn to the sky thank Odin and say skäl!
it is a Japanese bearded axe, not a Scandinavian one
赤錆びまみれの斧がみるみる綺麗になっていくさまを見るととても気持ちいいですね
I cringed when the Maker's Mark got nearly ground and buffed off the axe... Ouch! It did clean up well though, I'd have treated the Maker's Mark differently.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
You really triggered my interest in this hobby. ⚔️⛪️🇺🇸 🪓
In restoration videos they make it so shiny it doesn’t need to look like a mirror a more weathered look looks much better
Still watching this now I have seen everything hanging a axe with a grinder OMG
Well done. I'd almost be afraid to use it.
Welcome to the angle grinder channel. It’s his only tool apparently
There’s a website for that.
You should use rust removers to not destroy the temper of the axe unless you use a wire wheel and then sand very lightly using the disc, I personally don't think you really destroyed the temper cause you sanded so lightly for the most part, oh and another tip is always glue a wooden wedge before inserting, it will stay inside better and make it a bit stronger too. A couple good rust removers are Krud Kutter and Evapo-rust
I don't know if the high polish finish is going a bit too far. See it in a lot of restoration videos and I think it makes the axe look cheap in some way. Perhaps a case of less is more here. There is a beauty in something looking forged or rustic.
penn707 😄
Rob O how is that? I’m asking because I honestly don’t know how it prevents corrosion.
I’m with you on that. Around 7 minutes or so it was a nice satin finish but more matte and looked great. I’d blacken it myself at least in part

@penn707 No, fuck you !
very good restoration, and very nice axe, also before the restoration already good
It's your axe, I think it looks great.
I think I'm most amazed that you did that with long sleeves...
Excellent...excellent job. The only comment I have is on the metal wedges. You used them wrong(imho). A softwood wedge is used in the handle slot and then. 1 metal wedge perpendicular to that.
Looks incredible!
That was hand made why grind off most of the Maker's Mark?
$100 bucks he didn't know it was a) the maker's mark b) written in Japanese
@@blairgarber both
I imagine he did know but it needed cleaning and you couldn’t see any mark at all beforehand
my thinking too why not give it an acid bath and less aggressive sanding?
totaly agree , i would of found out who was the maker by the makers mark and given that info out to enhance the knowledge way before doing any of that way over the top not restoring but destroying a hand forged highly crafted axe ....
Goodbye to the makers mark......
That is not a restoration for me. :D
Timothy DC I am sure the maker won’t mind..he’s probably dead anyways if it’s and antique.
shivers
Very sad to see them go indeed
It's still there.
Nice work but you should have just polished the blade instead of the whole head of the axe. You would have kept the maker's mark... which as it goes was a really nice one... and a blackened/pitted surface would have given the axe a look of age. What you've ended up doing is taking an old axe with some nice history behind it and turning it into something that could have been made yesterday.
Outstanding
Good work , beautiful Axe! And, the makers mark is still intact!
Pretty nice but I would have restored it differently...⚒️
Beautifully updated,
Why is it that in all these restoration videos, most people grab the grinder??? There’s other ways of removing rust and not remove part of the beauty...
i was taught to clean my tools before i put them away
@@BrySmi ...theres a very good reason he got it for 3 bucks...it was rusty old crap...now...it's got a new life...tools exist to be used...don't take that from them
@@BrySmi i agree...the phrase restore...is overused...refurbish is a much better description..i also agree he got carried away with the grinder...i'd have done different...but...at the end of the day...the axe was on it;'s way to a melting pot if it hadn't been rescued,,,we should encourage this
Its for the shinny youtube look. And from my own perspective i am highly satisfied with the last shinny result no matter how it is achieved.
Imp ThePimp but the only thing that remains is the maker’s mark, something that shows skill, why does he need to remove it
You know it's a joke of a restoration when he used a hacksaw to cut off the old handle
That is a nice style axe head. Nice resto
Good bye to a maker mark and the value of a nice pice of art!!! This guy love the grinder a lot 😵
Hello MRE, what is the brand of that axe head? Where did you find the replacement handle for that? Beautiful job by the way! Thank you for sharing!
Excellent work.
This is so satisfying to watch
🇷🇺 Золотые руки... Skillful fingers...
12:53 name that tune? I think "Radetzky march" by Johann Strauss
Is this an advertisement for right angle grinders?
Beautiful work
Good job!
Truely Amazing. Job Well Done. Keep up the good work.
A sharp looking axe
Beautiful
I really like the look of that! =)
Nice job!
Great job. I didn’t realize how versatile an angle grinder is.
top work!!
Very nice. Like it.
Nice!
At first I thought, from the shape that it was a viking axe, but after seeing the details it's A JAPANESE carpenter's axe. SCORE!
yeah I actually see alot of those in a local flea market close to me. I have seen folks get all worked up saying its a Bearded axe...thinkling its like some antique old norse viking axe...then I pull out my phone and go to amazon and show them that its a japanese axe/hatchet, and they are crestfallen. good thing the owner of that stall is never there..the flea market sells it for them..on commision. I bet the seller would be pissed at me.
maker's mark is gone. new? axe and rust wedge. good colarboration.
Все отлично,но надо показать топорик в деле! Респект!!
that's a beauty ! i'd love to have that in my collection ! excellent shape on the head . and japanese steel ? i want one !
good job did you put a rust inhibitor on? CRC makes a good one
I would like to see a video of him chopping wood with it
good job
Good job brother
if i have zero skills in making handles, can a handle made by a carpenter would be good?
what oil did you use for the handle? it looked pretty thin, and would need a few coats but i really love the finish
Great job I like it bro🌷🌷🌷
I'm so glad you stopped with the bench grinder before you really screwed it up 😪 but the axe head was still brand new looked like it had never been used just left outside hell I bet it was still sharp
Whoa! I have the same axe.
Seriously? What is it then? Japanese?
@@prepperjonpnw6482 dude it is a very common japanese bearded axe, here is an example www.amazon.com/Kings-County-Tools-Japanese-Laminated/dp/B005CR4VHY
Bravo!!!
very nice
very good work
Thank you so much.
OMG I want this axe please!!!!!!
What polish were you spraying at it before applying sanding paper by hand? And what polishing compound bar?
The axe's blade will don't move 👍
Seemed like it needed an edge put on it and would have liked to see it used on some wood at the end but still enjoyable viewing.
Guys chill a Maker's Mark isn't needed for his purposes. We ain't going to auction Everyone has a vision and this was his. I better not get any wranglermart comments either. He's a KZheadr not a axe god. I think this turned out awesome :3
That's not restoration.... because he didn't restored it to it's original appearance
@@georgevalerio1027 What is the original appearance? ;o
Lord Venger pretty sure the original appearance wasn't mirror polished. Smh at the tool devaluating fools here.
@@robusthedgehog it's what we do best >:D
I think it looked awesome, I'd buy it ;)
Superb restoration ! looks like a Japanese or Arab logo on the head ?
Grind grind grind
Man you sure like using that grinder don't ya
There is a desire to buy this axe
*_Heart attack while you grind away the blacksmith's signature_*
I'm sorry about this mistake.
Não nem pra acreditar q é a mesma peça perfeita
Bon travail
That axe is now too beautiful to to be used! The markings should not have been partially removed, the axe maker's markings brings out the true value of the axe! Too much grinding and buffing!
Каким спреем пользуешься при ручной шлифовки?и что за полировальной пастой полируешь? спасибо
Try using the laser to remove the rust. This will preserve the manufacturer's or owner's marks.
Grinding the cutting edge of any tool at that speed just killed the temper in the blade nice axe no makers mark and useless wall hanger
Not as long as you dont over heat it, dip it in water as your grinding and you'll be fine. But also with axes since they're so thick you can grind constantly with light passes and be fine. Of course yeah if you get it over 400° F then yeah you can ruin the temper.
Why finish the handle after putting the head on instead of before?
Красивая форма у топора
Eu sou o único brasileiro que gosta desse tipo de vídeo?
Good
Give it!
Very nice little chopper you have there!
Başarılarının devamını dilerim bro.👍
what is the metal polish he uses that has apple written on the side?

In Slavic countries this is modern axe.Наздраве
I agree should not have removed the makers mark!!!! That to me is a no no
Thank you I will keep it next time.
gear show new subscriber however the file you used should go in One Direction only not back and forth that'll destroy the file files are to be used in One Direction anyhow everything else is beautiful new subscriber in Western North Carolina
Hi, how much does this axe cost?
you guys who polish it up too look like a mirror......they are so pretty when it's done, I wouldn't want to get any pine tar on it...... kind of becomes a decorative piece instead of a usable axe.....
I'm like 999.9 percent that doesn't have a handaxe laying around like that.
Magnifique on dirait une poignée de porte
The axe should keep part of its ancient look... it's look like a mirror
