  • I've recently been in a bit of slump emotionally lately so I decided to buy 3 hummingbird feeders and a multi tier bird feeder. Let me tell you even the tinniest thing like a bird taking a perch and eating really makes me smile and is something I'm happy others share. You've been a real help and you always sounds so excited for your birds!!

  • I purchased 2 table fountains. One is adorable cups and saucers piled all kiity wampus as if in a sink and water cascades. The other is bronze dishes with river stones creating a relaxing spa ambiance. Only problem is they require an outlet. Very impractical for a table decoration. These pumps are PERFECT! I'm going to fill my yard with your great ideas for the critters. You're so enthusiastic I've watched your videos over and over!

  • Neat, I remember about 25 years ago on one Hot July day while watering flowers with a water hose just using a fine spray--a hummingbird who must have been really hot flew into the path of the spray and just hovered there, you could tell that he was really enjoying his cool-off bath...

    • Love this, and it reminded me of something similar about 20 years ago not long after I bought my house. I was watering my lawn where I had had new sod and I saw 4-5 bluebirds bathing in the puddles on the sidewalk. Silly me, I started talking to them, and they tilted their heads as if they were listening. I just made a similar fountain a week ago, but I have not seen any hummingbirds or any birds using it yet. I have seen a couple of birds (not sure what kind) eating bird seeds from my feeder that is about 20 feet away.

  • Robbie! Who else has your knack for knowing what the birds need? I would have NEVER thought of scoring the cap! You are a natural at this and thank goodness we have you ❤️ I've posted before that this is my first year planting a vegetable garden and it's colorful containers only. I'm 66 and I have so many containers in my two long driveways on each side of my little homestead, that my car barely fits in the driveway now! The other day I did the lasagna method and planted 18 plants in their containers even though the last two hours poured rain down on me, I was thrilled I got it done. I'm determined to grow my own vegetables and fruit from here on out. I'm in Washington state and I've got some fruit trees and Berry bushes at home AND I'm finding out there are fruits we would grow in So. Cal that I can grow here too. This is a full time job learning from you experts AND doing the work to get growing on time, or starting early in the home. I really am forever grateful. And.... I'm a big bird feeder and this fountain will be so fun to make!

    • I never expected to live anywhere that hummingbirds live - they seemed so exotic when I was a child, and I was very surprised to find that ruby-throated hummingbirds are migratory and live for about half the year in North Carolina, where I now live. ..... They are very entertaining to watch, and will fight over the feeders that we put out for them - for a bird that isn't much bigger than a bee, they are _very_ agressive. They will also buzz around my head when I am outside in the yard.

  • I LOVE HUMMINGIRDS! AND IT WAS FUN WATCHING THEM ON YOUR DIY BIRDBATH. REALLY GREAT IDEA! I LIVE TO SEE SUMMER AND THESE LOVELY BEAUTIES ALL AROUND US IN THE GARDEN. I HAVE HELD THEM IN MY HANDS AS ONE GOT INTO THE SKYLIGHT IN THE GARAGE AND HE FINALLY WENT TO THE BIRDFEEDER(SUGAR WATER) WE HAD SITTING IN THE GARAGE. HE FELL ASLEEP FOR A WHILE AFTER HE HAD A BELLY FULL OF SUGAR WATER! IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE THAT ONLY GOD COULD HAVE GIVEN ME THAT DAY! TO HOLD A HUMMINGBIRD IS ONE OF MY GREATEST MEMORIES AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR OUR LITTLE FEATHERED FRIENDS TO COME TO OUR YARD! GOD BLESS!

  • What a wonderfully CLEVER IDEA!!!!!! I love to make my avian neighbors and visitors happy, hydrated and safe!!!!! I've read that supplying water and bird baths are far more important than food! I have several bird baths of differing depths... especially after seeing a hawk once trying to take a bath! The oddest bird bath visitor that I ever had was an ibis!!! And grackles!!! OMG!!!! They soak their sunflower seeds in it, bathe in it, and drink... I clean and refill my bird bath multiple times a day during birding seasons! Thank you for this wonderful video.... I'm off to order a solar pump right NOW!!!!

  • I so appreciate your thoughtful projects! Love how you purposefully attract birds to your garden. We have MANY sparrows in our backyard. They love to party here (I think they invite the whole block) I think what really struck me the most (a different fountain you made that I watched yesterday ) is a comment you made about the fountains enticing pollinators. Since I am also into gardening and watch your hints on a regular basis, I was intrigued. Ordered the parts yesterday after hearing that!!

  • Robbie, I have 3 solar fountains now, thank you for showing us your ideas!! I'm sad though, no hummingbirds come to any of the 3 fountains. I have 1 in my veggie garden sitting on a chair with the stick perch, I see & hear the humming birds when I'm in the garden, there's 7 feeders but no birds of any kind come to the fountain. I have the other 2 under my 5 humming bird feeders closer to the house. I see them feed but not one is visiting the fountains. I do see the sparrows take dirt baths where I mixed my soil for this season. Maybe the birds are too clean. LOL

    @katekaplan8428@katekaplan8428 Жыл бұрын

    • I have a small fountain the hummers love. I exchange the water 2x a week and use a fish net to remove leaves and debris daily/ as needed. Not sure if there is a correct answer as it depends on amount of sun, evaporation, dust and debris and algae growth. I just kinda use common sense and the hummers seem fine. I don’t use bleach because it would ruin the coating on my fountain but my neighbor uses it without issue

      @zanedzikonski4234@zanedzikonski4234 Жыл бұрын
    • What kills any bacteria, virus or fungi if you don’t use bleach. If it is outside in the sun: I would use a 1:9 ( bleach to water ratio to spray heavily on all parts, dry in the sun at least 10 minutes. After that you can spray rinse with water and put the fountain back together and reuse.The more humid the weather the more often to clean the fountain. ❤ (If this is completely unnecessary please reply why, and if you convince me I will delete this comment.)

  • I like watching you create the solar water fountains for your birds. I bought one to do the same thing as you. Then i had the idea to use an additional solar water fountain to feed into the drip tape for my 4"x8" raised bed. It works! On a sunny day I can empty an 18 gallon tote onto my bed in 6 hours. Nice gentle drips every 6" on the drip tape. Then I can move the empty tote to water the next bed the following day. The solar panel is so movable, and I do not have to stand there and water for hours.

  • In the 1960s I saw a humming bird working flowers, near Lake Sebago Maine. Having never seen 1 B4, I was mesmerized and followed it along the edge of a swamp thru a bunch of back yards. Never saw one again, until covid lockdown. Suddenly I'm spending a lot of time in the yard. Oh snap !, we have hummingbirds. Multiple species, I see them almost everyday, even during central Florida's brutal winters. Decades ago we planted a lot native pollinators, after noticing a giant African Bee Hive up in a big Oak Tree. We planted Blue Porterweed, Golden Thyrilus, Crested Fire Spike, Fire Stick, Milkweed, Lantana, Lion's Ear. Most of these flower all year. The Humming zeroed in on the Porterweed, so we planted some non native varieties, Red, Purple, Magenta, Peach, Lavender and Violet. That was the ticket, they hit 'em all, but seem to prefer the Red Porterweed. Last year, we added nectar bottles and 100s of Pentas, all along the borders of the pollinator gardens. We'll be adding water fountains this year.
