A large paperclip 📎 bent into a triangle can be slipped over the flower and makes a perfect perch too!
Yes! I do that too!
Thank you !
I think of them sitting as eating in. While the ones without the seats is a drive-thru! LOL!
I bought several of these feeders. Fill them and store in frig. When replacing just grab one for the hummers. This gives my visitors a cool drink to enjoy.
Me to But then I googled it
Aww❤🥰🙏🏻
Cold food isn’t good for them, I take my liquid out of the fridge, fill a feeder & put it on the counter in the morning when I wake up. Then once room temp I put them outside.
@@Flying_Doodle_HomesteadHow often should we change out the solution and clean the feeder? Thx
I made those perches months ago thanks to you showing us how. They work fantastic and I have to thank you for showing everyone again. It's so calming watching the birds enjoy their drink. I look forward to you and Gary teaching us the easy way to do things.
You are the Good Queen of the Hummingbirds.
Yours never seem to fight.. I put 6 out and one bird seems to fight them off of all of them. Thanks Rob 😊
Same here. It took years before one hummer discovered my feeders. It was wonderful. Then another came to share - #1 wanted no part in sharing. So I put up a second about 40' away. Neither had any interest in that one.
In her area they probably have the hummingbirds that migrate in the Winter. If they stay all year round, they’re ‘Anna’s hummingbirds’, and Anna’s are fighters. Each one will claim a feeder and chase off all others.
The view from your deck is beautiful. What a fantastic habitat for the little feather babies!
Thank you so much!❤️
So many hummingbirds 🤯
Yes 😊
I love how creative you are! Call me lazy, but I carry 3 feeders in at a time, clean and refill them, then carry them back out 😂😂. But, I have a good ways to carry them, plus 4 steps to go up and down. I sure get my exercise lol. ❤😊😊❤
Lazy person here. I keep a spare feeder on hand so I can fill it and just swap it out with one outside, which I bring inside and clean. I repeat this the next day with another feeder.
@DarqJestor That's smart to do that. I clean and refill on average, 10 to 14 a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. With as many feeders as I have, they have plenty to use while I am cleaning the 3 I carry in, so I don't worry about keeping an extra feeders. I have bought extra feeders, but I ended up putting them outside too lol.
The feeder I have is bigger and better perches.
Thanks from Sonoma County~ Your bread tie trick helped a glass feeder with an ineffectual perch that the hummers couldn't rest on. It's always been a busy feeder because we're inundated with Anna's (year round) and Allens (migrating). But now they're enjoying the new bread tie perches. I have two good sized feeders but you inspire me to hang multiple Dollar Store feeders too. Thanks for the tips and the video.
Excellent! Happy birds make me feel great, and I know you too ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve been doing this for years. The red part screws onto a liquor or wine bottle perfectly. I used jute string to make a hanger. Can get creative with the bottle colors and shapes. I use the reservoir part to make hanging topiaries with my houseplant clippings.
Hi Robbie! I love the perches you made on the feeders! Awesome 👌 Have a wonderful weekend 😊
Thank you! ❤️
It's amazing to see how many hummingbirds you have there.
Now I know why I didn't get many birds! I'll be doing this this year. Thanks
I so enjoyed the image I got from your comment about the bar.... I needed the laugh 😅
I can NOT keep the bees off my feeders. I switch them up, move them around buy guards, I put tulle fabric over all of my little feeder flower thingies. I have to bring them all in at night too because the deer just tip them up sideways and chug a lug like frat boys at a keg party. LOL Luckily I'm able to keep plenty of flowers going in pots that the little hummers still zip around my property. We adore you Robbie. We've stepped up our fountain game on your videos too. Thanks a million.
I had the fattest racoon ever draining mine overnight! Had to move then off the fence
Look up , first nature hummingbird feeder on Wal-mart website 4.18 .
Bees are lapping up what is spilled running down
@@chrisgrube8529 Yes I assume they drip. I live where we call 40 mile an hour wind 'Tuesday'. They swing, the deer nose them, the squirrels dig up all my newly planted vegs and flowers. BUT I SHALL NOT BE deterred. 😄about 23 years here. I moved here from California. Things are a lot different. I don't have a deck so everything is in trees or shepherd hooks. My first humming bird came today. A black one with a red chest. 2 days early.
Feed The Bees.... out in another Area.😂
Thanks again wonderful lady! 🎉
Excellent home improvement idea for the hummingbirds; I love it!
Great idea! Robbie, should have a sign up ROBBIE’s HUMMINGBIRD BAR that would be so cute. Thanks Robbie 😊👍🏻
Robbie’s Hum Bar 😂
Best hack Ever!!! These are thee best feeders. Have bought them for years. Am in the south and the sun just destroys them after a season. Yup, spent way too much for the others but wanted them to have the opportunity to sit & sip😊! This was so easy, Thank you.
I use those too. Just make sure the twisted wire away from where feet perch. I had one get his toe stuck in between the wires. Thankfully I was able to free him. Scary moment but I can’t now say I held a live hummingbird.
Yes I like it when you can twist the wire in a single fashion 😊 Thanks
Thank you… can’t wait to try. It was so nice of you to share this hack
You are so welcome! Thanks
I watch Robbie and Gary 24/7 ......... You can , too !!!! Just activate your auto player !!!! "And don't forget to eat what you grow" !!!!
I use these too,Robbie. I love them because once they fade from the sun or get broken, I toss them guilt free. They are so cheap....I use PAPERCLIPS to make the little perches. I have more of them than bread ties. Works perfectly.
I always say that they need to be able to set and rest. I also put a couple zip ties on the hook and they rest on those in between feeding. Love watching them. Thank you...
Thank you. I am going to dollar tree tomorrow to get me more feeders
Yes, thank you, Robbie. I've used the bread ties from a while ago when you posted about them and they work great. ❤
Hi Robbie and Gary! I love this idea. You're so savvy! I will use this on my new dollar tree feeder as well! TY!
Great tips! Thanks so much. I look forward to your content daily.❤❤❤
I just bought one from Dollar Tree. I will try the wire hack, thank you. Have a great day.
Those are my hummingbirds favorite feeders! I bought expensive ones but they love the cheap ones most. I put a stick through my suit feeders for birds to perch on and the birds loved it. They stay at the feeders longer and I actually got a variety of birds on it.Great tip Robbie! Love your videos! 🕊️🐥
Thanks for the tip- great idea!!
That is awesome!
It would be a good idea if I picked up a couple of these. That way, the hummingbirds have a choice when they return. I use the Walmart ones mainly. Thank you. Have a wonderful evening.
That's a great idea! I use the Walmart ones mainly too, but some birds do like the dollar store one 😊❤️
Thanks for sharing the experience. There are couple sunbirds come to my yard to build nest! Plan to feed them 😊
That is so cool! They should love sugar nectar feeders ❤️
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy thx thx. A bit nervous to be “birds grandparents” first time haha
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy hello Robbie and Gary. May I get your help to see whether it’s wrong with my sunbird? She is keep yelling something without any voice. I am a bit worried about her. Did you see any sunbirds like this before?
We don’t have sunbirds here we have hummingbirds not sure what would be going on
@@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy i see I see. Thanks :)
Time to go to dollar tree. 🌳 thanks for the advice
Great idea. I imagine the sit helps them restore their energy balance faster, too.
Excellent idea! I have to keep a rotating set so i can swap them when they freeze overnight
Thank you for the great idea! We're going to try it right away.
I use the ones from dollar tree and have had no issues. The red color does fade from the sun and I replace them every year when the stores put out the spring items.
O m gosh you always have the exact fix I need! Thank you lady❤️ 🐦
Bought a couple of similar feeders (a bit smaller) from my local dollar (PLUS) store (Quebec) to try this - 1.75 CA$ each. Used some garden twist tie for the perches. Every time I tried to wrap the twist tie around the flower base it pulled the flower plug out. Had to permanently glue the flowers in place with a couple dabs of Gorilla glue, taking care not to occlude the feeding hole. I also glued the hanging cap to the bottle as it didn't take much to unscrew it. I let the glue fully cure of course.
Waiting for the Hummers to come back. I clean mine with a chenille stem and a toothbrush.
Perfect
They will be back soon ❤
I'm in the north, so excited that it's Hummingbird time. Always love your videos and seeing all the beautiful hummers that visit you !!
Thanks Robbie😊
I have noticed that they like the feeders with the perches so much better!!! Thank You!!
The dollar tree has that thin wire, they are on the aisle where the floral stuff is at.
Thanks❤
Thanks again for this great idea. Really nice upgrade for a cheap feeder. Can't wait for our weather to change here in Pa. Hopefully in a couple more months. Fingers crossed.
Shoot! What a great hack! I went through a whole rigamarole to make a stand for my feeder with a metal hanger from the cleaners. I had to hot glue it to the bottom. What a pain! This is so much easier! And it will probably stay better than my hot-glued stand!! Thanks!
It sounds like you put great effort into your hummingbirds. That was wonderful. But yes, try this the hummingbirds love it. It takes seconds to put up a little seat for them. Thank you so much for feeding hummingbirds.❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the tip. Someone bought me a feeder without the little perches so haven't put it out so now I CAN! Thanks.💚
Thank you! This is actually what I was looking for.
Great, the birds love that little perch ❤️😊 Thanks
Dear Robbie my humgers fight over my feeder, I will put wire on my feeder, but they sit in tree, if another bird comes along, the fight is on .Yours over the years all are around, my are selfish..I live in Southern Tx..❤ Thank You So much threw the years. ❤
Try a divider like in some of my videos, or more feeders ❤

Thank you so much for this hack! I'm gonna give this hack a try. I bought two more feeders today in the hopes of receiving more little visitors. I'm sure they'll appreciate this very much. :3
We use the DT feeders. Not that many hummers this year, so we added another feeder, but I think it gets too much afternoon sun, so we're moving it on our suet feeder chain under a tree branch. Hope that works better and more come! I'll try your hack to see if we get more "customers!"
I used a hot glue gun and so bbq sticks. It works great. Yours is easy too
I learn so much from your videos!!!...I really do!! You give out so much information!!
Thank you so much for the helpful tips. ❤
What a perfect solution! Thank you!!
I've saved bread ties and didn't know what to do other than house plants stakes but this is great. I have one of these feeders and I like your idea of having to switch and clean.
Hi Robbie and Gary ❤ Bob here ❤❤❤
Hi Bob ❤
I use the ones you suggested from Walmart , they are inexpensive and last forever ! I just looked and they are 4.18 on the website!
That’s Amazing! Great Idea I’m gonna have to try this and see if I get any here at my house in saint Joseph Michigan!!! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. Your tips are great!
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Love it, and so easy of a fix

Great tip!!!!! Thanks.

LOVE ❤❤❤ BEAUTIFUL
I'm going to set some up while I'm waiting for garden time.
I have several of the dollar store feeders, I have to hot glue the base of them because they leak, but I'm going to try your trick tomorrow.
Interesting, I have not had a leaking issue with any, yet
Robbie I just love ❤️ you!! You are a genius!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 God Bless you from Kentucky 🤗🦋🤗
I will give this a try, thanks!! Last year I had ants all over my feeder. Has anyone been successful in keeping them off the pole or feeder? Thanks again!
My problem is I can't get the hummers to my yard/feeder. They go to my neighbors on the street behind me but never over here. Any suggestions? I use the feeder from the Dollar Tree and make your recipe for the nectar. Even though I don't see any hummers I was putting fresh nectar out every day. I didn't fill the feeder obviously but did put enough to be able to tell if they were drinking any. I have it hanging on one side of a bird feeder stand and a small basket of safflower seeds for other birds on the other side. I even tried just hanging two hummer feeders on the stand and still no hummers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I also have different kinds of plants on the patio around the feeders. Thanks in advance.
Plant pineapple sage. They love it! Hummingbirds tend to prefer flowers over feeders. Plant hummingbird friendly flowers and seduce those birds away from your neighbors. Good luck!
I bought one of the dollar tree feeders last year but it attracted wasps and bees. The bottom section is actually two parts. The flower part above and the bottom tray part. They snap toghether and creata a seam there. Well the seam is below the level of the nectar when full. The wasps hang onto the seam and drink as the nectar drips through there. Then the bees figure that out and do it to. The biggest problem is that the wasps are very aggressive and make it hard to get to the feeders to clean and refill. They also want to fight the hummingbirds too. After awhile i just filled a coffee cup with the sugar water for the wasps. But then there were 20 to 30 wasps and they would fly in, drink and then drown. The next day there was 30 to 40 wadps. I felt bad killing so many and I only had 1 hummingbird, so I gave up.
Different model. Some of the dollar store feeders are pretty awful, but the model Robbie showed actually works pretty well -- a lot better than some much more expensive feeders.. The only problems I have with them are 1) windy locations (these feeders don't have any partition to keep the the nectar well separate from the outer rim) and 2) the holes in the feeder ports are just a little too small -- the flowers (a.k.a. bee guards) definitely keep the bees and wasps out, but the hummingbirds don't seem to be all that comfortable with them, especially if there is any wind. I think this is a major part of why the hummers want a perch to feed from them -- the steady perch seems to make a fair bit of difference. Around here, at least, I've only see these feeders stay up and in use in quite sheltered locations. (Maybe Robbie has some perspective on this?)
You also have to make sure the bottom two parts are kinda of snapped together....if it gets off track from the little groves even a little bit, they will leak. If they are leaking or sealing at all, it's probably off track a bit.
I had the feeder hung from a tomato cage so the humming bird could land there and then fly to the feeder. I did not have any ants but every time I went to fill it up I found one or more dead earwigs inside. Kinda gross and it meant I had to clean it out every time I filled it.
Bees hate peppermint extract on the red plastic between yhe yellow feeder flowers.
Not only the bee's, but I have a problem with the ants!! Smart little stinkers! What to do? 😣
❤❤❤
How long do you change the humming bird water
how clever. I always wondered how much energy is lost by their hovering
Great video … how many camera do you use ? And what type of the camera ?
I just bought 4 from the Dollar store and got to thinking about how these are likely not BPA free plastic. Do you think this is something to worry about ? With them likely getting hot in the sun ? I don't want to harm them. I am excited for them to return back in my area.
Great you consider it! ❤ Plastics leak. Also not sure if sugar water is the way to go... They may like it but it doesn't sound very healthy.
This feeders are becoming “7 Eleven” stops for the birds 😂 ( free slurps 24/7)
Good morning Robbie. What kind of camera are you using??
Hey Robbie and Gary, been watching you for a couple of years now. I'm trying to attract more hummers. I see in this video at 6:18 or so a flower can you tell me what that is? Thanks
Great idea but I’m curious about how you can have that many feeders yet not a single ant???? ❤
Now I need a hack to keep the dastardly squirrels from chewing on the flower trying to drain it! Use a Bic lighter to "smooth" the sharp edges down for hummers beaks.
Any tips to keep ants away?
Ant moats are great. You can either buy one, or, I believe Robbie has a video on how to make one pretty easily.
❤
"...like they're at a bar..." 🤣🤣🤣
Plastic may not shatter but it does break, crack so you still must be careful.
Im jealous...
How you do you get Ants from drinking out of it?
Do you live in Valley Center? The landscape behind you looks kind of like that.
I have those feeders and they have a problem-an air lock is created as the birds feed in the bottom. I have to tilt it to the side to release the air bubbles that allow more feed to flow below. I’ve had 10 or more the last two years and they are all the same. Time to carve another hole to release that air lock I think.
I have the same problem; this happens with a variety of my feeders. Trying to figure out an easy fix.
How do you keep the ants from getting into the feeders?
what about woodpeckers?? other birds??
