Building and Hauling the World’s Biggest Trucks in Chile

This summer, we were lucky to visit Finning Cat in Chile to see them hard at work assembling one of the biggest mining truck packages ever!
We specifically toured their La Negra facility, where many dedicated technicians work for weeks to assemble single machines.
Once complete, they load them onto trailers and transport them to the nearby copper mines, where they will likely work their entire lives.
We tragically didn’t see the truck being hauled up the mountains, but we’ll be back next year as they have one truck a week for years to complete the order!

  • Great video, Aaron and crew. That’s what I did for 21 years of my life is run Caterpillar equipment and loved every minute of it lol. When I was disabled in 94 the biggest truck we had was the 185 ton swivel in the middle cat trucks. You drove them like a 18 wheeler to back them up. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing you upload a video. Thanks for sharing!!

  • 798 are really quite incredible, it only has a 85L engine instead of 115L like the 797, but because its electric drive it has a higher payload, (slightly)higher top speed, more torque and its able to use trolley assist systems. you guys been to a mine using trolley assist systems? fuckin incredible things

  • Cat actually makes a 995k and isn’t that just a blower motor? Is the braking energy dissipated through a grid box arrangement with the blower motor to cool grids inside box.

    • Likely as EVs wear brakes much slower than vehicles without regen braking.

    @vincentgrinn2665@vincentgrinn26655 ай бұрын
  • with enough batteries they can generate electricity on the way down into the pit and use that on the way out . so the climb only needs the energy for the actual payload plus some energy losses . should save fuel which i bet is a big expense.

  • Beautiful sight!! 👍👍. Any idea what the time frame is from design to engineering to manufacturing to testing to redesign, engineering, manufacturing and final sales of a new CAT haul truck is? How many years is involved from actual design to actual purchase of a new haul truck, gives you an idea how far CAT and other Mining Equipment manufacturers have to plan in the future which will constantly Change due to market conditions and government regulations?

  • i worked in a coal mine in alberta and we had variable ground conditions but alot of soft ground. we had 785, 1500, 730 and 830 haul tucks. The mechanical drive 1500s where the best overall by far on the inclines and soft ground, 830s where ok and the 730s where shit. the company is slowly switching over to 789 and 793 cause we have had way way more success with mechanical drives
