Saying someone doesn’t sound deaf is the same as saying “you don’t look sick”
What???? How does that make sense? Those are two entirely different things
Raven Matthews I assume they mean sick like a life threatening sickness that’s not visible to the eyes at first glance. Like when you have cancer but have hair.. people think saying “you don’t look sick” is a complement or they’ll say it implying you’re lying. It doesn’t really help as a compliment because at the end of the day you are sick and you are struggling so looking presentable to fit social standards is not a priority compared to not dying tomorrow. Having an inoperable tumor or diabetes or an autoimmune disease might not have you looking sick and that fact being brought up doesn’t feel great when you know you’re truly suffering day to day.
@ᑭIᗰᑭᒪE ᖴᗩᑕE exactly XD like yes I'm autist, and yes I'm ''smart''... But well, I'm autist ! I can't do some type of things, like tea, sometime... Or just be calm in a place with a lot of different sounds, like I juste can't, this is my autism... And yes I can read and write ! Did u see dat ?! XD sorry but people are sooo dumb sometime when I say ''sorry I can't do that, I'm autist and this action is impossible to make for me !'' XD
Saying someone looks sick means saying the look bad
@@sckblol6036 (sorry I'm not english I'm gonn make a LOT of misstakes)no. Here we are talking about when a people is sick/disabled, like me with my autism and my chronicle pains, and some people say ''you dont look sick, you aren't sick'' or ''you don't have a wheelchair si you aren't disabled !''.
I firmly believe sign language should be taught at a young age in all schools. society would be a lot more inclusive/accessible to deaf/hoh people and also it would just be really cool and useful to be able to communicate without talking sometimes! And I'm a hearing person !!
yeah true! not to detract but as a person who can't speak, knowing sign language would be awesome for me. the reason I'm not learning is because no one understands it which is why this should be taught as a basic skill from childhood!
i totally agree
I agree but then you wouldn’t be able to talk crap about other people in front of them!!
I fully plan on teaching my children ASL since it makes life easier with young children and is a valuable skill for later in life
I Think most people would forget it, as they don't need to use it. I haven't met a deaf person my whole life, and I think most people hadn't either. Practically speaking, it's a waste of time if you aren't using it.

Probably _because_ she's deaf.
Yea like me I literally trip on letters when speaking 😵
My parents were deaf and it was always interesting to see people's reaction when they would communicate. My mother read lips and seldom used sign, whereas my father could not read lips and relied solely on sign. My mother's sister was also deaf (my aunt), and she read lips and never used sign. My mother could speak clearly and almost everyone just thought she was a foreigner speaking. My father and my aunt could not pronounce words correctly and it was obvious that they were deaf. One of many topics for the deaf community that I never really see anyone discuss, is the manner in which people sign. Growing up I would notice deaf people from New York would sign in a manner I would call hard and forceful, and deaf people from California always seemed to have a laid back, easy going manner of signing. A product of their environment I guess.
That is so cool! I never thought about how people would have regionally based 'signed accents' so to speak. It makes perfect sense in hindsight, like of course they would, but I also find it pretty cool that they seem to kind of match up to spoken accents as well
Interesting, it’s like accents but for signing! That makes sense though because they’re learning from those around them.
The equivalent of regional dialects, I guess. Makes sense. With any language it differs based on localities and what you’re exposed to.
The thing about the culture in different states is funny. Also is 3 of your close family members being deaf a genetic thing?
Definitely, everyone shows expressions. I feel it’s important to consider, when it’s someone’s lifestyle, I believe certain people would be very active in their main outlet to communicate respectively. So New Yorkers in example, definitely in due to their environment, are more in demand of self-expressing themselves. It’s not easy (as mentioned in the video: there are times with cons), so it’s simply different styles and different personalities to expressions because of what matters to each individual signer, I find. ❤ It’s beautiful to recognize though! Great feedback from your behalf.
I'm autistic of normal hearing. I put a lot of effort in my communication, so people regularly comment how "good" my social skills are. It's a lot of work... And often leads to people not believing I'm autistic at all. So I get your struggles at least on some level. I mean... They miss my meltdowns because I've learned that melting down in public is worse than melting down in a toilet stall. :'D Thank you for this fascinating video
I'm autistic as well and people often tell me I have great composure but little to they know I've had more speech therapy and social work than I know what to do with. Its kinda funny when you think about it. Some people question if I'm really autistic or not but they see my high sensitivity around noise and stop doubting it. Its a struggle I know all to well
@@HoszHosz Please do what is best for you. You know your truth. Be kind to yourself ❤️ Other people can't really know your struggle. It's your life. I'm autistic too. Take care and good luck 🍀🦋💜
@@HoszHosz Thank you! 😊🙏
Same except I was deaf until age 3 and my Autism was assumed to be a result of my delayed language development, did extensive speech and behavioral therapy til 3rd grade when I was taken out of special ed and put into a regular class where I struggled to maintain a 2.5gpa, wasn't diagnosed till age 18 because I was too "well behaved" in class and wasn't "disruptive" enough, was told that I didn't study hard enough and was just lazy with social anxiety. It's hard having an invisible nuerogical disability especially when your sex has been conditioned by birth to behave and never act out nor make a scene unlike boys who can be boys and wreak havoc. So many girls with disabilities go undiagnosed into womanhood believing it's all their fault and constantly feeling ashamed and useless as they put on a face and try their very best to mimic normalcy.
I'm autistic and keep getting told "oh you don't seem autistic" by people who don't have experience with the full spectrum of autism and "yeah, I could tell" by people who do. And sometimes people assuming I must have had really helpful therapy, when in reality the only autism therapy I've ever had was a couple weeks with a program that drove me into such a severe combination meltdown/PTSD flashback that I had to call a suicide hotline to resist the urge to cause serious harm to myself. So, no, autism therapy has not been helpful to me, and I'm actually really glad I was diagnosed late.

I was a sign language interpreter for many years and have watched several of your videos. It was not until I watched this video that I learned you are deaf. It's impressive how hard you have worked to keep your enunciation so clear. It could not have been easy. Thank you for sharing not only about deafness but also EDS and other disabilities. Your work is greatly appreciated by me and many others.
I worked, for a while, in a long term care facility for psych patients. One of our residents was profoundly deaf since birth. He could read lips and sign (ALS). Because of his mental illness, he heard voices. I always wondered how that worked. He couldn’t hear anything but the loudest of noise ( the smoke alarm in his room was set to lights & vibrating, plus extremely loud siren to accommodate for his deafness) but he would describe the voices in his head to be almost whispering. I know he wasn’t “hearing “ with his ears, but his schizophrenic brain. I always thought it was interesting
Huh. That's really interesting! I didn't know that was possible!

I am hard of hearing and was bullied constantly through school because people didn’t believe me even though my class knew I had two operations on my ears and went for regular hospital appointments. Despite this every year I moved to a new form teacher the teacher would be completely unaware of my hearing issues because the school never told them and any new students would immediately assume I was faking. Like you I am not sure why I would do this. I didn’t get a hearing aid until I was 21 and so spent my entire life hard of hearing and can’t get used to the loudness of the world. I really do need to get an appointment for a hearing check because my hearing is definitely getting worse. Boo. On top of this I have fibromyalgia and ME which obviously I am faking because “you don’t look disabled” like we are all created from one disabled person mould. So at 35, I now flatly tell people they are being rude as I have zero fucks left for ignorance. I do love your videos because you explain deafness in such a lovely and understandable way. Despite this being filmed aaaages ago I assume people still say the same daft things.
I've got myopia (nearsightedness) and can relate to sensory aides being overwhelming, because in childhood I kept losing my glasses, my parents had trouble affording new glasses and my prescription kept changing, so I spent large chunks of my childhood with everything looking blurry, and it was always a shock when I'd get new glasses. I'd end up staring at my hands a lot because they looked "wrong" to me because they were smaller and less blurry than I was used to. I've been told as an adult that my nearsightedness is so severe I'm at risk for retinal detachment, and without my glasses I'd be considered visually impaired.
Most people: "Oh wow! You don't sound deaf!" Me: "Oh wow! You don't sound like an American!" Seriously though, I love your style! Everything's so immaculate I feel like I'm looking at a work of art!

Muscle memory is indeed a hell of a thing. I can play entire 5-6 page piano pieces, only using my fingers’ muscle memory. If I actually try to think about the keys I should play, I immediately screw it all
Speaking in general is muscle memory....why do you think babies have to learn to do it? You spend quite a few years developing muscles and technique in your tongue and vocal chords to communicate. ALL speaking is muscle memory.... If you stopped speaking for one whole day, or even a year, would you forget how....?
firegodessreiko babies need to learn how to do it because their NEUROLOGICAL CIRCUITS in the brain need to make the connections. It’s not like their throats suddenly develop and their cheek chub turns into muscle from speaking. You *brain* sends impulses to your mouth to speak. That’s not muscle memory, it’s *memory* period. wendydays ッ Go for it
Probably my standard preference.
I would take the definition of beauty from any year! 😂😂
You are such an incredible inspiration. You are just so amazing. Thanks for being you. And thank you for sharing your thoughts and self with us. You are such a gem to me. You have touched my heart with your content 💓
I was randomly recommended this video. You're awesome and you have a great sense of humor. I think the most impressive thing about your clarity of speech is not just that it is clear- but that you have such a great feel for inflections and voice volume. Even with your explanation I can't wrap my mind around how you do it. As someone who is studious about musical arts I can't imagine losing my hearing. It's one thing to train your ears to train your voice, it's another thing to train your *muscles* to train your voice. I think only the greatest of vocalists could have the control over the very muscles in their throat as you do. I didn't even know it was possible. Is it insensitive to say 'Thank you for making your voice heard'? Thank you for making the world a little less ignorant.
You have such a pretty voice!
Speak louder she can't hear you.
+Agustin Salas not funny
Agustin Salas well she would be reading the comment so there's not really anything to be heard.
+Laun Perkins thats exactly what I was thinking. they tried to make a.bad joke but it failed to make any logical sense xD
Autumn Yates That's why I find it funny, lol
I am not deaf and you speak clearer & pronounce way better than I do😑
Nicole Soto same..
Nicole Soto same
Same lol. I mumble a lot
Nicole Soto yup me 2
I’m not deaf or anything but I’ve been told so many times how unclear and low my voice is. I tend to talk fast a lot of times. For a deaf person, her speech is very impressive. I can see how people mistake her for hearing. It’s the first time I saw someone deaf who speaks that clearly. Usually you can tell when someone is deaf. They have a unique way of speaking.
My grandmother is deaf in one ear, and has been all her life. This type of content helps me understand, accommodate and relate to her better, so thanks ever so much for making this.
She's absolutely amazing. And the most beautiful voice I have heard in a long time!
Is this in anyone’s recommendations 2 years later
In my defense i thought it said 2 weeks not 2 years 😂😭
me
Huh yea! I didn’t even realize this was from 2 years ago...
Yeah
Kahmani _. Yep
why does this lady look, sound, and act like a supermodel from the 1950s
Penn Penn your profile picture goes along perfectly with this question
It says on her channel that she is living a vintage life
That’s what she likes
Why do people assume they can be judgemental arseholes?
First Lieutenant hm
You are amazing!! I was first drawn to your vids because of your unique look. Then, I was drawn to your energy and personality. Now, to learn that you’re deaf....you are inspirational!! I just love who you are and the relationship that you share with Claudia! Thank you!!
This was so interesting, thank you! I never realised how many differing sign languages there were. Or the differences between BSL & SSE. Comparing BSL to French grammar structure made perfect sense to me, utterly fascinating! I wish we all learned at least some basic sign language at school, when we’re really young.
Wowww. You're like a Disney Princess!
Cae Rule Yes, Belle!
Omg Disney please make a princess movie and cast her as the lead
A deaf princess would be awesome 😊
Right
Cae Rule Y E S
You honestly sound like someone who would teach high English. It's so clear, soothing, and so perfectly spoken. You speak better than most people that I've heard.
lol did you mean "highschool"?
@Matthew McCall No, I mean "high English".
Devin Hansen ok wats that
Matthew McCall Advanced vocabulary and pronounciation.
Matthew McCall think about high gothic.
okay but she is so gorgeous and so is her voice. like- her voice is so clear and beautiful, i love her voice. absolutely beautiful
bro you have the most beautiful voice, and also you’re really pretty:)! but most of all, your hard work is gorgeous! and much love to all those who are also deaf, you’re all doing amazing and are amazing✨
Your practice has definitely not gone to waste. Your accent is beautiful and every word is crystal clear, I’d love to have your speaking voice.
Caroline Heredia Right?! She has such a beautiful voice! (:
It's a British accent which i have
Same. Accent or not, the tone of her voice is just really pleasant. Mine sounds like a goddamn trainwreck in comparison lol.
If you put in the time and effort with a speech therapist, it’s possible. Changing the way you speak is like learning a musical instrument or riding a bike - you keep on practicing the basics until the repetition becomes second nature.
Ikr! Her voice is so angelic!
I love the fifties style vibes it makes me really happy I don't know why
Littlemissbasketcase Me too! 😁
Same! I wonder if she has a hair style tutorial.
Me too ♡-♡
Littlemissbasketcase if you believe in reincarnation, it is possible you were living and thriving as a person of middle-aged-youth back then.
violetgirl1996 or it just means I like the style Jesus Christ
You do have a truly lovely voice. I am quite anxious today with pubs reopening and lots of noises going on around where I live which is quite jarring to me. So I’ve been watching your videos to calm me down because your voice is so soothing.
Your voice is absolutely beautiful. Your practice has paid off and you're beautiful to go along with it! Please live your best, vintage, lovely life :)
Her voice is so clear, soothing and relaxing (: i want you to read a bedtime story to me haha!
Caitlin HK exactly what I was thinking! It's so relaxing to watch and listen to her talk :)
Caitlin HK why does this only have one reply
Exactly! And she’s gorgeous! Love the fifties vibe 💕
I’m born deaf. I couldn’t hear anything or speak till I was 15. When I got my cochlear implant. I still can’t hear clearly. I can only understand people with Australian accent and it’s so weird you are the first British person I ever understood 😂. Even auto generated subtitles understood clearly.
Nadz they have the best accent without a doubt 😂😂
Thats actually very cool. Can you hear music clearly?
Montes Foreman I wish. But because of the music in the background it just sounds like they are mumbling. Because I’m deaf, I consider Eminem a mumble rapper 😂. Unless the singers are Australian 😂
@@user-pl6hy3km6s Haha, it doesnt help he raps too fast nowadays. XD Forgive me for being nosy, one last question: -Can you hear basslines or melodies?
Montes Foreman not very well. I can’t recognise music instruments in songs either. So I usually stay away from music 😂. If there is any more questions, I can answer. I always get asked about cochlear implant. 1 kid even asked me if I was a robot😂
You’re voice is perfectly normal and elegant and very proper and correct you speak better then 95% of non deaf people
Very informative and I am truly grateful for everything you give to us on this channel ❤️
