  • The creatures are indeed interesting. They are not some mindless killing creatures either. As mentioned in one of the later episodes in season 1, before the discovery of the Talismans that prevent entry into a home, these creatures would "Howl" and pretty much had free roam of the small town at night. After the town had Talismans for every home, the creatures no longer "Howl" and had free roam. The creatures actually adapted tactics. The creatures now spoke and had to influence the people inside to let them in(I thought this was actually a clever small detail).

  • Demon Fae was one of my first guesses. Vampires in some genres DO use glamours (a form of spell) to make themselves look more appealing to humans. Those glamours can be dispelled at a whim, or seen through if perceptive enough. Fae are also known to be just that good at tricking humans into false senses of security, and that they leave the corpses behind in such a state after devouring their fill, is only for show. Just an awesome series so far. Victor is great as the misunderstood permanent child, that's been there the longest because he followed the rules. The rest, maybe it's a mirror realm, you're brought in by the Fae from a random highway, for whatever reason. Drama or Heightened emotions seem to be one of their triggers, and once you're inside, there's no escape. You're in the realm of the Fae and they only have one real rule that can protect you. Wonderful idea, thanks for your sharing and breakdowns of everything. Quite the ride.

Also: we've seen the creatures shrug off a 9mm to the chest, but I want to see what a .308 or 12 gauge to the dome will do to them... Hydroshock alone would probably turn everything above the eyes to mist. Also, the Celtic druids placed a lot of emphasis on border concepts (times between times like twilight and places between places like beaches) and the void under the basement could be something like that.

Shape shifting, toying with prey, following obscure rules seem to point to something Fairy. • I personally think the Monsters are the Spider(s) that Ethan had a dream about in the second episode, and everyone is trapped in their web. Spiders enjoy the hunt, usually hunt at night and sleep during the day, will sometimes mimic their prey in order to get close and devour them, they eat most of their victims and barely leave anything behind, like the Priest pointed out, and Ethan's vision/dream sort of hints that they are spiders. Ethan says, "I saw it. The Lake of Tears. It was a drawing on the wall. There were so many drawings on the wall. Like the ones I used to draw with crayons? And you would put it on the fridge? And we were all through the drawings; you, and me, and Mom, and Julie. But somebody screamed because the Spider came down from the ceiling." And then later in that episode, the medic has a nightmare where a Monster breaks through the ceiling to attack Ethan, and she wakes up when dream-Ethan screams. I think that's a really strong hint that the Monsters are Giant mimic Spiders.

There were at least 3 types of strange creatures shown: the monsters , crows and spiders, who attacked Boid, also some huge giant or something who grabbed the tent in the forest. Also the voices in madgirl head might be some other creatutes or lost souls. All the people in town are not bad, there is not a single bad person among them, which is strange, they even kinda built communism without rivalry and conflicts. So I guess if all the people are actually good despite mental ill, there must be bad souls as well, these creatures, and both of them are just at the sanctuary edge🤔

I wonder if the town entrance is a crossroads, anyway, those entering faity monds are meant to experience time differently.... other hints from norse mythology, specifically the faraway tree (enid blyton) or yggdrasil point to one of the lower of the norse 9 worlds maybe niffleheim, or hell , where the godess hella is half beutiful and hald death (just time divided not space divided here). ravens match to eithr the morrigan (celtic) or odin (norse), and im concinced the boy in white may be the god baldur (or possibly loki) -- know its mixed mythologies, but they do sort of relate

But Jinn might also fit the bill here: - They are capable of assuming human or animal (dogs, ravens) form. - They are said to dwell in all conceivable inanimate objects - stones, trees (!), ruins - underneath the earth. - They possess the bodily needs of human beings (maybe the one who was permitted to enter Colony House truly felt a desire for a romantic relationship; also she looked in the mirror and seemed almost regretful of what she'd done) but are free from all physical restraints (except for the talimans). - They delight in punishing humans for any harm done them, intentionally or unintentionally (The bottles Boyd and Sara found hanging from the trees made me think of Jinn in the first place; their captivity/slavery might have lasted hundreds if not thousands of years so they're in the business of exacting revenge now.). - Those human beings knowing the proper magical procedure can exploit the Jinn to their advantage (once again pointing to the talismans and possibly to another town that may have somehow weaponized them as guard dogs to keep anyone from encroaching on their territory).

Also jinn wish to be left alone in general, some lore says they feed on us like shadow people, or they are gods bound by humans , like alladin or the witcher. I think the creatures prefer dark because they like to farm them letting some live and coming back later. This land also traps goats and animals to them all to eat.

Granted none could go forwards in their vehicle and the crows were creepy but physically all they would have to do is climb over said tree and continue on foot. I don’t really know myself what would continue past it but surely it’s an interesting standpoint. It’s kinda just brushed off in the show as well as the tree we all saw.

(Note haven't seen the show yet but about to watch it, it's very interesting) They feed on humans until there's nothing left as if starving, the disguise themselves in human form similar to how some myths says the wendigo can possess humans, the talisman comes off similar to something native America, they are sadistic enjoying tormenting their prey even before eating them, their true form comes off as a starving creature of sorts and theory is they were trapped there by a native America tribe and same with the humans as a possible counter measure incase they tried to use a human to escape their prison.

It does seem to be some kind of weird pocket dimension are you mentioned in your video, like the island in Lost, it's like they're stuck in a snowglobe. It's like the issue with the electricity and devices working when not plugged in, it's almost like they're in some kind of simulation. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the monsters were people who have died in this universe and come back at night as the monsters. But again, like Lost, a LOT of mysteries, clues and other bits, which I hope we get answers too!

They also might try Bible or crosses because for some reasons there is none in the town, so they might be hurt by that for that reason. • These creatures can be "WENDIGOS" because in some North American indigenous legends they say that these creatures hide in caves and feed on human flesh and can even disguise themselves and pass themselves off as a human by imitating their voice, in addition they are creatures in turn and they move away when they see special talismans (in the legend the figures are composed of various images of the sun and men). Tampons or headphones help to protect the victim from the children he produces to attract him. They can manipulate electrical charges and winds around them (this explains the electricity they have when Thabita digs and finds the cave with the wires inside it, and the storm coming just in time for them to get a radio signal). It is said that the warning a wendigo gives before attacking and frightening prey is to let out a blood-curdling howl in the strong winds (similar to the one heard in the forest when it gets dark, no?) Creatures can be killed with fire and wounded with silver, plus they can connect with animals in the wild like crows. They like to terrify victims before killing them and have psychic powers that can mess with the minds of some weaker people. They are WENDIGOS because they consumed human flesh and were cursed, in addition to there being several of them there is the WENDIGO XAMAN the strongest of them, which in this case could be the one in red represented in the cave when Thabita fell. My theory is that everyone is being manipulated by the WENDIGOS because they are in their territory and cannot get out of there because the powers they make do not allow people to see the way out of that place, confusing them more and more, they become easy food for these creatures that lived on human flesh to live, besides the legend says that they have a period of hibernation in winter and makes them stock their victims in their cave so they don't starve and feed on them later. OBS: (strange a village in the middle of nowhere having all the supplies for a human to live right?! being the perfect place for these creatures to sow their victims).

  • Watching it again, the bald monster that killed the Priest is the same exact one that appeared in the trailer "dream" when the dad took down the totem. I feel she may be a mother to the monsters and she doesn't disguise herself like her "children". I think she's in the drawing on the wall that has the man and women (Ellis&Fatima?) and she's represented by the hand with claws on the left. As for the top right of the drawing, I think that is the monster in the clouds. The black cloud can be seen faintly when they show the crows when the family first got there and it came back as a storm ( 1 on the first night the family arrived and 2 when it knocked the tower down) and spoke to Jim through the radio. SB I have a theory, if the 2 cars didn't crash in the beginning, one of the cars had to be heading towards the exit because the town can't be on both ends of the highway at once which is why they had to crash. That would ULTIMATELY mean, in order for everyone to go home, someone has to stay behind...just a thought

People who have encountered them speak of feeling immense fear and even danger. In all accounts, they have been encountered at night only, are very pale, and true to the name, have eyes that are blacker than the void. It's possible, therefore, that as I mentioned in the start, that these creatures are a variant of them.

  • Throughout watching this show the first and lasting impression of what the town represents to me is a form of limbo or purgatory where those who live there are living humans in a dimension where only souls should inhabit. I think that there very presence in that town could be a violation of the supposed natural order of life and death itself and those creatures could exsist only to harvest souls or to correct this violation. There seems to be several references to other faiths or religions from Catholic to norse or odinism with clues hidden in plain sight this leaves a lot open to interpretation though its interesting that of all the books they have in the library in town there are no copies of the bible or I'm guessing any other religious texts, I wonder what the significance of this is. If you really watch this show closely a couple times there will be something there you will see that you may have missed the first time round and that cannot ge said of many other shows on TV these days. I can't wait for season 2 and I so hope that it doesn't end on a cliffhanger and end up getting cancelled like so many other shows, that's beyond frustrating.

It was really well edited considering the wide range from folk depiction drawings to very relevant movie villains like Cenobites (when the narration was commenting on the Christian coopting Celtic mythos and the Abrahamic afterlife lore) and the Balrog. The limited “From” creature footage was used sparingly thus remaining fresh and tantalizing whenever it was shown despite being reused.

  • I don't think the monsters can be pinned down to any particular existing lore. I think they borrowed different concepts from various sources to create something entirely new. As far as Boyd's "infection", my gut tells me that the worms or whatever it is the old man passed onto him will end up being a defense against the monsters that come out at night. Everyone else who was caught by these creatures has died horribly but not him., yet he is chained. It's possible he is an outcast of a group of bigger bads or the creatures captured him and chained him, unable to kill him. There are a lot of ways this can go. I'm curious to see where this narrative leads.

  • All these legends and stories around the world point back to Genesis 6. When Angels came to make wives and bore children. Those children became giants and eventually ate men. They're the reason the flood occurred. They are now demons. They hate humans. In the show we can see most people are just killed for the "fun" of it. Vampires need blood, these creatures enjoy killing and deceiving.

  • I wonder if once they pass that line into/going towards the town you enter an entirely different dimension like u said or it is infact still earth and the same dimension but once you cross into the territory you are stuck, idk just a hypothesis

  • I hope this series won't go to waste as The Walking Dead did. I hate when the focus shifts from surviving monsters to surviving other groups of people or other unrelated things.
