  • Fun fact: The “infestation” mentioned in 682’s monologue after the 055 attempt, is implied (and a little author’s head canon) that this infestation is supposed to be the Entity from 5000. Long ago, the Entity manipulated humanity into performing some kind of ritual and pulled 682 into a physical form and sealing its memory away in 055. Once 055 was introduced to 682, it achieved apotheosis and destroyed the universe to continue battling the Entity from 5000

Like... yes, at the end of the day this is just a massive termination attempt dressed up like an SCP in its own right, but this actually expanded the LORE of the lizard in ways that I don't think have ever even been considered before.

    @NathanielPayday@NathanielPayday2 жыл бұрын
    • it's the only thing that saves it for me. i'm definitely one of those people that hate 682 for being an overhyped, overly focused on, nonsensical spc whose survival most of the time makes no sense and clearly only serves a kind of juvenile fanboying "is there anyone that can defeat madara uchiha" niche within the community. THAT SAID. this is actually a really interesting take on the usual malaise, as well as a building upon the lizard in an interesting way for once. i still would just rather it was neutralized so we could ignore it going forwards, but still.

      @malum9478@malum94782 жыл бұрын
    • @@malum9478 Tbf, 682's survival not making sense is kind of what makes him known as the "Hard to destroy" reptile in the first place, and if you think one of the Scarlet King's origin stories known as "Dust and Blood" is canon and 682 really is the child of the 4th bride of the Scarlet King it adds up to what makes him so broken, but other then that you are correct about it being highballed a lot around the Vs Debating community, up until a point where people started thinking it's Boundless.

      @latrykpo1779@latrykpo17792 жыл бұрын
    • @@malum9478 Yeah, but that's never gonna happen. 682 is basically the bar against which the strength of an SCP is measured. If you terminate it definitively (as opposed to just in tales or the like), you create a narrative power-vacuum that something equally broken and OP will have to fill. At least the lizard is simple and easy to understand.

  • I really like viewing this one as satire of the modern trend of SCP writing. An alternate title could be, "If SCP-682 was written today." It can't just be a hard to kill reptile, it has to be a metaphysical device built by the foundation that takes on the characteristics of the hard to kill reptile that ends up destroying all life in an alternate universe, presumably an alternate universe where no one wrote 682 until now. I really would have liked it as well if someone realized that the SCP they were trying to destroy was probably the machine they want to destroy now, and therefore they shouldn't try to destroy it.

  • I listen to the article then check the SCP number. Yup, it’s that guy, alright. This article is actually pretty interesting to me, because it kinda fits into a headcanon I’ve been pondering on that makes 682 basically a Pattern Screamer. While there was no mention of Pattern Screamers in this video, the way 682’s perfect state of being is a concept kind of goes along with some of the stuff about Pattern Screamers. My idea was that 682 existed in the reality before this one (and maybe the one before that) and was so hard to destroy, that when the Pattern came around, it endured through it, being reshaped into its vaguely reptilian form it is now. So really, it turns out 682 is already contained in the current form it’s in.

Cause as the SCP-001 article on the Scarlet King shows the King is shaped by the way he’s perceived by people shaped by the attempts to understand and classify him. 682 could predate its "father" but because people believe it to be a child of the Scarlet King it makes it so.

      @DarthPrime52@DarthPrime522 жыл бұрын
  • I think they may have turned 682 into The Scarlet King, they mentioned that one of the associated ideas in the Noasphere was that the color red is connected in human consciousness with the idea of hate and when the doctor met the entity at the end it said the room was colored "hate." There are already countless connections between The Scarlet King and 682 from other files and tales so it stands to reason that he could attach himself to that concept, maybe even directly through our Noasphere in our world by "unlocking" it with 055 since we have no idea what it is or what it does. In a strange sense, the idea of The Scarlet King and his connection to 682 may be responsible for both's existences through an idea loop set between 682/The Scarlet King and us as the readers and writers of the Narrative in the SCP universe. I'm now going to stop thinking about this for a bit before I get a worse headache.

This would mean that the anti-knowasphere and that which it contains is a subset of the knowasphere. Therefore there is a set that exists in the set of that which humans can understand, described as that which humans cannot understand. This leads to three conclusions, conclusion one, there is an irreconcilable paradox found within human thought, that it is possible for people to understand that which it is impossible for humans to understand, or that set theory is bs.

    • 682 is pretty interesting on its own, especially when you look at it through the lens of the modern Foundation. They can devise containment methods for boxing up concepts, eigenweapons that turn gods into a fine red mist, and recreate the entire human race from basically nothing - and yet they can't kill this one lizard without breaking reality.

  • One of the few SCPs Ive had the pleasure of reading before TES made a video. I love this one because it makes a great example of why anomalies should never be almost never destroyed. Anomalies function outside our current understanding, getting rid of something just because we dont understand it can have innumerably many or maybe none, consequences. I also like it because it makes 682 much more interesting, SCP-682 isnt an unkillable lizard, its an eternal, conscious, antithesis to life who we had best figure out how to cohabitate with because, they are a seemingly built into reality to oppose consciousness.

  • I love this article, i really do. But the only thing i dislike is that all the collapse happens through the foundation fucking up in a rather uncharacteristic way, they create an EigenGamer PC with RGB that can alter reality, and they fail to create both a killswitch and redundant security, they failed to realize they would forget about the literal multiversal superweapon on the basement of site 001. And they fail to realize the adaptability of the entity even though they still know about it. I love it, lets play how many things They could have done with unlimited resources: A) store information of 682 and the ANTIKILL facility on another foundation from another reality through the Treaty mentioned at the beginning of the article for later retrieval in case of emergency. B) Proceed to apply SCP 5000 Protocols, diseminating a cure for scp 682 meme on all foundation staff and then killing the rest of humanity, thus obliterating the entity. It's still faster and cheaper than creating a god supercomputer to deal with it. C) Try to use all available cooperating scps simultaneously against 682 and destroy it on a physical, metaphysical, conceptual and any other way possible at the same time. At worst it becomes the absence and destroys everything, same result but cheaper and faster. D) send scp 682 to the jupiter moon IO where SCP 2399 is rebuilding itself. Even if it doesnt exist in this universe then a jupiter moon is still a great way to contain it. Great article. Style, atmosphere, aesthetic and a nice twist on a classic SCP, with a lot of humor mocking the idea that the Foundation that doesn't like terminating would waste so many resources trying to kill this totally unkillable shit specifically, even though its rather tame in its containment requirements compared to other Keter entities, and some Euclids even. Really really cool article, i give it a *[REDACTED]* out of 10.

The whole hatred aspect seemed to fit in my head with how humanity has moved beyond the limitations of the flesh. Well done to the author, it was a ride.

  • So if 682 is the difference between life and death, it’s successful destruction is the cause of ‘the end of death’, its own success is the cause of O’ Death, it’s intrinsically tied to the noasphere and death, or the lack thereof, so one is success, one is failiure, and this is the middle ground.
