  • DC got disrespected a lot throughout his career by fans, especially throughout the Jones stuff. It's ironic that Stipe, arguably the most disrespected fighter in the UFC based on promotion alone, was the guy to take him out. I don't think either of these guys are/were appreciated enough.

    • The UFC seemingly struggles with promoting the HW division. They sort of tried to bill Ngannou as the scariest man on the planet but then cucked him immediately with the Interim belt fight. Look back to the PRIDE days and how they promoted their heavy weights and the division nd it's no surprise why people still think Pride had the best HW mma division of all time.

  • I always get mixed feelings when revisiting this trilogy as I simultaneously lost and gained respect for DC. He showed great striking ability against a decent boxing heavyweight and actually took the much bigger man down a few times as well as slamming him, but IMO the eye poking in the first fight affected the outcome. I think Stipe was somewhat compromised and very clearly frustrated by the fouls which contributed to him opening himself up losing. Then, the pokes continue into the 2nd/3rd fight. Not a good look for DC.

I don't think anyone can be the same fighter after such a trilogy. I normally cheer for fights like these, but it was almost uncomfortable. The shots they took without going down was toe curling.
