      @Stark238@Stark2385 жыл бұрын
    • @@Stark238 I think Ricky has always had a need to be the main focus and that is what Steve politely suggests here. As time wore on and Gervais became so over-exposed in the US people have started to realise that a lot of the gold in the earlier work was clearly Steve's hand in it. I think that is why Ricky brought the Brent character back and why they clearly fell out when Merchant wanted to leave The Office as is. Ricky has a need to be seen as the talent, hence the 'when I wrote the Office' stuff. I've also read that there was a falling out over money which I could imagine considering Gervais and Merchant owned a production company and presumably the format to The Office. It's just sad that such a close relationship across that decade has clearly fallen apart. Merchant has said he's still friends with Karl on multiple occasions. I was hoping the pandemic might have healed old wounds but clearly not.

Indeed, that's certainly true of Karl Pilkington declaring numerous worldly 'wonders' to be dumps, rubbish, or just plain underwhelming via 'An Idiot Abroad'! It's 'offensive' to some expressly because he's (arguably) correct in his forthright observations...

As Stephen said, they don’t always translate well, and the irony in the USA version was so surprising given that we don’t think they get it. I have watched both versions several times and I feel qualified to say it because of that fact and also I have seen a LOT of comedy given I am 70, not 16 as most commenters on here seem to be.
