Probably the craziest ending I've ever seen to a match. Botic SP on his own serve at 5-3 Ad-40. Doesnt convert. Two more SP with Monfils serving down 30-40 and 40-Ad at 4-5. Doesnt convert. Three more SP with Monfils serving down 0-40 at 5-6. Doesnt convert. Monfils then has 3 MP up 6-3 in the tiebreak. Doesnt convert any of the three. Then has another SP at 7-6 in the breaker on Monfils' serve. Doesnt convert. Then has ANOTHER(!) at 8-7 on his OWN serve in the TB, doesnt convert!!!!! Then has YET ANOTHER SP on Monfils' serve at 9-8. But decides to blow it via a ball abuse code violation point penalty. After WINNING the point at 8-8. What in the freaking hell, never seen that before. Winning a point then getting a point penalty for ball abuse. And at such a stage of the match too. And then Monfils converts his own match point on a DEAD NETCORD.
I was also puzzled. Van de Zandschulp wasn't happy that he won an easy service point? It needed to be an ace or something? A point won is a point won. Why was he upset that he won a point?
ATP Tour scripts are wild this season
@@mspsys I think he was upset for not converting the previous set point; and then making an easy ace when he wasn't with set point. At any rate, I agree the timing is strange.
Yeah that's basically the content of the video, so what's the point of this comment ?
@@mspsys the reason is why didn't hit that good serve on any other own serve set points.
More like Van de Zandschulp vs Van de Zandschulp
lol
The best comment today!
That’s every VdZ match lately
100% correct!!!!!
But that would imply one of the Van de Zandschulps won in the end.
can't believe botic hit the ball into the crowd after going set point up
He won the point and hit ball in crowd?! Whats wrong with him
@nt8009 he's taking a page out of the book of the guy who smashed his racket after winning the match
Who's that?@@joddle23
At that point he obviously didn’t want any more set points. Gosh, he was so tight in those previous ones.
@@hamzaabbaszaidi8788it was kokkinakis, after he won the match him and his opponent smashed their rackets
Botic just slowly lost composure. Tennis is crazy. You have to hold it together. Once it starts slipping it’s hard to get it back
The replay made it very confusing. So he won the point and still hit a ball into the crowd which made the score even? Any idea why did he do that if he won the point?
@@topspin1715he probably didn’t think much of it when he hit the ball into the crowd.
It's likely that missing about 10 set points while serving for the set has caused a lot of frustration. The loss in Munich against Rune for his first title, especially when being 5-2 up in the third set with two breaks, probably has significantly impacted his confidence.
I'm glad someone is actually paying attention! @@prog5027
That net at the end was a little bit too much. Tennis can be really cruel sometimes.
Yeah, that was a dull knife to the chest.
3:20 point penalty Mister Van....gull
He forgot he got code violation before 😂😂
Yeah that was hilarious. I think the pronounciation is van-der-zan-shloop
Lol… „no longer requiered“ 02:14 😂 Yes, you can phrase it like that.

Bro the most annoying thing in tennis is when you have a set/match point and your opponent suddenly starts playing like primer federer
Even worse when he doesn’t and you still waste those chances. In this second set they both played like none of them wanted to win. Tennis is crazy when pros get tight.
Pros have to be prepared for that, though.
Probably more annoying when you have set points or match points in a Tie Breaker and hit 3 errors in a row and your opponent does nothing but wins the set/match
@@NickZoOoR but that's entirely your fault though, it's frustrating sure but you only have yourself to blame. Ive played a few matches where opponents have swung at the ball blindly match point down and ended up hitting outrageous winners
@@larryjablinski3570 Well, then you just had to applaud them for the gutsy play. It’s still better to lose against an opponent that is on fire in the crucial points than wasting chances by yourself.
Perfect meltdown, even the Net-God didn't help at the end
That was too much. Tennis can be really cruel.
Bots are getting really annoying
A delightful and poignant comment that makes the video more enjoyable ❤
Botic has been a known choker for years now, this frustration is perfectly understandable.
Sadly so. These shots on important points he wouldnt miss any of those in a practise match. Its all nerves.
Botic went a little crazy on that one. The only reason I can think of why he would hit a ball into the stands after winning that service point is that he was upset he missed the easy forehand on the point before. That serve would have given him the set. That is all I got.
I think he was upset for not converting the previous set point; and then making an easy ace when he wasn't with SP. At any rate, I agree the timing is strange.
@@jdmresearch Agreed, except it wasn’t match point it was set point as Monfils won the first set.
@@eincan1313 You're right. I edited my comment.
Botched it Van De Zandschulp strikes again.
Botic bottled it, and Gael held on tough to slowly but surely collect the pieces and the rewards of the meltdown. Rare to see a player so frustrated that they commit ball abuse after an excellent unreturned serve that gave them set point, but Botic's brain was totally cooked by the anger he had been building up to that point.
1:14 BRUH... those forehands from Monfils. Copperfield meets, Einstein, meets Thanos.
It reminded me of final Botic vs Rune when he didn’t converted many chances included MPs
I was about saying that. That was crazier than this. Man chokes a lot. You had MPs for your first title then you choke
@@femscorpt8127 I think he has a very weak mentality, may be he will change it, if not he can return to challenger level
Yeah that's crazy!! Rune was even injured that time
You could do better, huh? @@user-im9hp2kv6k
Bravo Gaël! 👏😍
I love how he's running off after that match. That's one he's gonna want to forget.
Your comment reminds of something Federer said, paraphrasing - losing finals is the worst because you just want to go off the court and be by yourself but you have to stand on court for another half hour and act like you're okay with losing.
I feel for Botic.
Literally the definition of "bad day at the office" for VDZ
He's on a losing streak. Maybe pressure to win is catching up
1:43 Exquisite! From service to broken racket & broken will, the Monfils Magic left VDZ streaming 😤
monfils is crazy
Yeah don't think people give Monfils grit and consistency in this match during that 2nd. set
AND he is 37!! That’s like Grandpa age in Tennis 😂
This is what not converting 9 set points does to you. It's a shame he was given a point penalty but why would you hit a ball to the stands right after winning a point?
It sucks that he ruined it for himself. He knew better not to do that with the previous racket abuse penalty 😑
I thought he knocked it out of the stadium. Not that, that is any better though.
Because the pressure is too much and you just want it to end. Even if it means by self sabotage because that's the one thing you can control. He was choking right from when it was 5-4, you can see it in his face and body. He might have also been pissed off at someone in the crowd and hit towards them in a moment of madness.
You said it yourself why🤪
Pent up emotion and horniness.
Feel sorry for Van de Zandschulp. He looks like a quite capable player skill wise, but when he needs to close out a set or a match he almost always falters.
Imagine having Botic Van de Zandschulp as your last acca to win just a set and all that happens. What a crazy ending that was
That is a wild, wild ending. Absolutely crazy comeback from Monfils.
I really love crazy matches like that :D
why in the world would he smash the ball after winning a point? crazy stuff..
Because it's rigged, match fixing, or call it however you wanna call it.
Ok conspi@@freecryptos
02:33, wtf point goes from 4 to 6 😂😂
So happy for Monfils - one of my favorite players of all time! Fuck Exxon mobile though - destroying our planet and our future
So you get around...how?
@@AinSoph73How on earth is that the point? Exxon isn't an ethical company. Even though we all benefit from them and other forms of energy, we still have the right to criticize them. In the same way, one can eat chocolate and own a smartphone and still be anti-slavery.
@@TraeBeneck I can make whatever point I wish. If you don't get it or don't want to get it then peace.
@@AinSoph73Of course you can make any point you want...you're obviously entitled to any opinion you'd like. But why ask questions on a COMMENTS section if you aren't even open to debate? Just saying "if you don't get my point then peace" is super dismissive and useless
@@TraeBeneck with all due respect - first things first - I wasn't talking to you in the first place, nor was I looking for a debate. I genuinely wanted to know if that person gets around without using gasoline or not. You led with "how on earth is that even the point"; I took that to be confrontational. Regardless, you said what you had to say and I respect your opinion. I disagree with you. I don't want to get into a lengthy negative exchange so I did my best to disengage respectfully. I hope that's helpful to you, sincerely.
I never saw something. Like that + the ending if it was me i will stop playing tennis for at least one month
That last year final against rune would make me quit tennis
You aren't playing on the tour and you've never competed at the highest level in anything you've ever done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tennis is his job. He has to keep trying. I would recommend a sports psychologist.
I mean Even a guy like Federer choked in one of the most important Match of all times, having mp with his serve on GRASS, tennis is like that, not Even the biggest champion are prime to.choke horribly
@@diegosotomiranda4107choking is when you play cautious with your hands shaking. Federer nearly hit an ace. That's not choking
Fenomenal Gael!
What a head case lol. I love it.
Damn, Van! SO many set points, YO!!!
Très énerver L hollandais ❤
Anyone have any exoerience with the Artengo TR960 the Monfils uses? Really intriguing racket given how cheap it is for a top pro quality racket, thinking I gotta buy one and try it out.
Finally an intelligent intriguing pregunta.
Botic just choked. At this level, you can't just barely get the ball back hoping and waiting for the opponent to make a mistake. He was very tentative when he was leading in the second set.
Well said. Major choke. He started babying his FH.
Its kind of comforting that even professional players suffer this much from nerves. He seemed to mishit on every important point.
I don't agree with hitting balls into the crowd during the match but players frequently do it (and with much more power) and don't even get a warning. Would like to see more consistency overall
Great resolve by Monfils and for Mr. Van de Zandschulp: You have lost but you gave so much to the spectators both live and in video: Try to think of that and realize how much good tennis brought that about and you'll enjoy the loss a bit more and remember to benefit from it too! A real feast for the fans!
Botic is by FAR the biggest self-sabotager in the ATP right now
No
Never seen someone have so many set point opportunities and then just blow it, damn what a way to lose
Gael Monfils best of the best 💯🔝 powerful let's go common ✊💪👍🔥🎾👏🙏🇲🇫🤝🇺🇦
OMG. Do yall know how many times it said "set point". I lost count after a while. WOW.. Happy for Monfils though..
Always fun watching the wizard "Monfils"
Wow 🤩 ❤❤❤
Am I the only one who realized midway through the video that Monfils was saving set points and not match points?
Yes.
Let’s go Gaiel
this reminds me of the monfils vs Nishikori match except Nishikori wasn't an idiot lol
Last year Botic choked very badly in Munich against Rune for the title and now this... Cruel
When he broke that racquet at the end of the 😆
Would have been furious at that last ball
Love Botic sigh please keep it together.
VDZ couldn't convert on his 7th set-point, this after being force fed a Monfils breadstick, dining on a Brother's Baguette, in the first set (if you know what I mean). SMH I wonder if he and his coach were tweaking? They both seemed a little jacked-up. If you know what I mean?
On oubliera vite Botic mais Gael restera à jamais dans les mémoires!❤
2:33 did anyone else notice that Vans score went from 4 - 6 points in the tiebreak, is that right to add 2 points or not?
The ATP scripts are getting wilder this season. Murray was right.
Think you mean Fraser McKnight
Since Munich last year when he had these matchpoints against Rune in the final. He somehow completely lost his self confidence.
Can we get Botic to comment on his script in the next episode of ATP Season?
UP Gael 🎉🎉🎉
Zandschulp went full tilt
Psicologo: come mai si trova qui? VdZ: volevo fare un set a Monfils...
Chaotic...well it was Monfils,no different expectations
And at 37!!! Still chaotic 😅
Jawohl Monteiro 😊👍
The last couple of matches it looks like botic is really struggling with the mental conditions. Bite your lip, take a deep breath also when you lost a couple of points in a row. Botic if you read this in your hotel room after the game.. Don't be to hard on yourself, you got this.
botic absolutely cursed today
WTF!! some days in a year and unexpectadly of course that weird Botic´s awkward , uncomfortable forehand takes its toll. Training or trying so much to perfect a clear imperfection has to betray the neuromuscular system once in a while, like a glitch or error code due to overheating or overflow. Although the higher risk of alert comes if THAT shows up when about to close a match like vs Rune in the Munich final. That is the real danger with these impairments.
I totally agree with that weird form on that forehand, it's like he puts entire focus on up-brushing, not plowing through forward, and his body not turn to the left when finish the forehand
@@jasonhe6947 The grave here is that he cannot get consistent spinned arc with a penetrating ball. Just kind of semi spinned semi flat balls.
Get this guy on Suicide Hotline STAT! I can definitely understand his frustration 😭
good god botic is really his own toughest opponent
Botic normally keeps good compsure but was understandably frustrated more than usual with this one
This might actually be the funniest match ever 😭😭😭😂😂😂
How many set points come and go? Botic: Yes!
It's almost like he tried to throw the match on purpose with those forehands and a random ball abuse after WINNING a point?
Having a bruh moment watching that one
This was just crazy. Either Botic was betting against himself or he definitely needs mental coaching asap.
Yes ask Rublev to coach him, nest=ce pas?
I hope Monfils sticks around for awhile yet...He still has great physical skills....and is still lots of fun.
First time I see botic kyrgios style
This guys forehand looks horrendous
It's been a while since I've seen men baby the ball like that -- so little pace : or some really unusual camera angle / distance.
Van de Zandchulp vs his voices
This should and will be investigated by the ATP. If you saw this set in its entirety, someone of relation to Botic or himself absolutely had a money stake on him losing. You can’t tell me otherwise
100% he had about 3 easy forehead put away and him them so long, an amateur wouldve made those shots looks unbelievable
Well you're a fool then who has never competed at the highest level in anything, but tiddly winks!
To me it looks like its all nerves, aka choking.
Botic is so stupid. Why would you give yourself a point penalty at 9-8 IN THE TIEBREAKER. AFTER YOU HIT A REALLY GOOD SERVE?!
You HAVE to be a wuss and a rich one at that!!!!
Because he was frustrated with himself and wasnt thinking clearly
I felt almost physically bad for him 😫
At least we see more emotion of Botic now, which in general is a good thing for his mental game (as we also see more positive outbursts). I don't know what has happened with his tennis lately. Whenever I watch him play - and mind you he's not the biggest guy out there - he moves like he weighs 200 kg's. It's not that he can't run, because he can - but everything is just sluggish. Need fireworks in those arms and legs!
He's usually cool and collected, but you just know BVDS went in that locker room and smashed a few racquets
I had to rewatch the point before the penalty to try to figure out why a player would abuse the ball after gaining set point…
Hahah Botic complete meltdown. Die vent is het helemaal kwijt, maar eindelijk eens wat emotie. Loopt al een jaar doodongelukkig rond.
Can someone explain me why he shoot the ball award?
monfils is endlessly entertaining...
The tennis gods have an axe to grind with Botic. It just wasn't his day.
Where's the bow?!
VDZ forehand was off for much of the match
Crazy match. Monfils just was hanging in by a thin strand. He knew Botic would explode and he did. Monfils finally learning something at the tail end of his career. It’s about the wins not the showmanship.
For my money, it's also about the showmanship. There are plenty of players who don't win often - the vast majority - but the ones you remember are Monfils, Brown, Kyrgios. If tennis was only about winning it would be a little more boring.
Yeah considering most money comes from sponsor if you like the showmanship more than winning I think it can be a solid strategy to go for it, it probably pays
@@peppolicchiopappo7274 No possibility that players do this for the sheer joy of it? I get the feeling that some people either automatically assign mercenary motives to players, or are themselves completely mercenary in their lives and can't imagine other possibilities. (Not saying you)
Thank you. Some sanity in the peanut gallery. @@barryschwarz
Monfils, well done.
This Van De Zawhatever guy is not the brightest bird in the flock 😂
Was he threatened to lose or something? Otherwise it is not explained how he lost this match, nor his attitudes when he was ahead on the scoreboard🫤
Sometimes it's just not meant to be
Botic misses selfcontroll, absolutly bad!😮
That has got to be the worst meltdown I have ever seen
Botic's forehand looks a bit weird to my eyes somehow.
Didn’t he also choke a final against Rune?
he did
Aren't you wearing a red tie?
That was a piece of drama 🥲
