  • Probably the craziest ending I've ever seen to a match. Botic SP on his own serve at 5-3 Ad-40. Doesnt convert. Two more SP with Monfils serving down 30-40 and 40-Ad at 4-5. Doesnt convert. Three more SP with Monfils serving down 0-40 at 5-6. Doesnt convert. Monfils then has 3 MP up 6-3 in the tiebreak. Doesnt convert any of the three. Then has another SP at 7-6 in the breaker on Monfils' serve. Doesnt convert. Then has ANOTHER(!) at 8-7 on his OWN serve in the TB, doesnt convert!!!!! Then has YET ANOTHER SP on Monfils' serve at 9-8. But decides to blow it via a ball abuse code violation point penalty. After WINNING the point at 8-8. What in the freaking hell, never seen that before. Winning a point then getting a point penalty for ball abuse. And at such a stage of the match too. And then Monfils converts his own match point on a DEAD NETCORD.

    • I was also puzzled. Van de Zandschulp wasn't happy that he won an easy service point? It needed to be an ace or something? A point won is a point won. Why was he upset that he won a point?

  • WTF!! some days in a year and unexpectadly of course that weird Botic´s awkward , uncomfortable forehand takes its toll. Training or trying so much to perfect a clear imperfection has to betray the neuromuscular system once in a while, like a glitch or error code due to overheating or overflow. Although the higher risk of alert comes if THAT shows up when about to close a match like vs Rune in the Munich final. That is the real danger with these impairments.

  • This should and will be investigated by the ATP. If you saw this set in its entirety, someone of relation to Botic or himself absolutely had a money stake on him losing. You can’t tell me otherwise

  • At least we see more emotion of Botic now, which in general is a good thing for his mental game (as we also see more positive outbursts). I don't know what has happened with his tennis lately. Whenever I watch him play - and mind you he's not the biggest guy out there - he moves like he weighs 200 kg's. It's not that he can't run, because he can - but everything is just sluggish. Need fireworks in those arms and legs!

  • Crazy match. Monfils just was hanging in by a thin strand. He knew Botic would explode and he did. Monfils finally learning something at the tail end of his career. It’s about the wins not the showmanship.

    @user-st5mn5px6m@user-st5mn5px6m2 ай бұрын
    • For my money, it's also about the showmanship. There are plenty of players who don't win often - the vast majority - but the ones you remember are Monfils, Brown, Kyrgios. If tennis was only about winning it would be a little more boring.

      @barryschwarz@barryschwarz2 ай бұрын
    • Yeah considering most money comes from sponsor if you like the showmanship more than winning I think it can be a solid strategy to go for it, it probably pays
