First he defeats both Ruud and Schwartzman to make the US Open quarterfinals as a qualifier where he becomes the only person the whole tournament to win a set from Medvedev and now he defeats Rublev to make his first tour semifinal. At this rate Botic has a bright future ahead of him.
and to think that Botic beat Rublev here in St. Petersburg Open as qualifier too
Couldn't have said it any better
@@gunners7746 It was a qualifier match in Rotterdam in 2017, not St Petersburg.
@@t3nnis101 Yes he beat him in a qualifier match in 2017,but he also qualified to get to the main draw here. Seems like all his big runs come when he qualifies
@@t3nnis101 He played qualifying round here in St. Petersburg Open. Look at his stats, from Polmans, DOnskoy, Nishioka, Korda, and now Rublev. His next tour is Stockholm as 'qualifying' round again(as of the moment). He just withdrawn from Paris Masters before cut off at noon today as qualifying round is Saturday.
Unbelievable perfomance. Best match of his career so far, not only 'cause he beat a top 10 for the first time, there are some other quality points which aren't showed here that really prove what the commentator says "where is this guys been?" Impressed.
And his last US Open ? Better
Botic and Karatsev have been playing in the Challenger Tour for many years but for lack of good coaching and advise, they had gotten comfortable with the little money they earned each year. Karatsev stumbled on a coach who told him you are so good and have been wasting your time playing in the Challenger Tour and just like that, they drew a plan and specific targets and in less than one year, book here we are today. Karatsev's breakthrough triggered a renaissance of believe in Players such as Botic Van Zandschulp and others whom you will keeping seeing propping up in their late 20s. Just so you know though, Botic already beat Rolland Garos even Rublev was not in the top 10 at the time but he was already a top player!!!
@@HolidaysWithHumour Your "facts" are a bit inaccurate here - Botic beat Rublev in a qualifier match in Rotterdam in 2017, not Roland Garros (2 very different tournaments)
Yeah. But Botic van de Zandschulp beats Hurkacz, not Rublev, in French Open/RG in a very very tight 5-setter game.
What returns on Rublev's serves !!!
Love this guy. Imagine hitting with such force including the serve and not making a single sound.
BWEHHH
@@ambrahalert3793 I know right?
That Silence is a real Sleight of Hand to the Bweeh! (Don't know how much Oomph is out on the Shot)
@@ambrahalert3793 ??
Imagine he starts to grunt! Lol.
The way he "reads" his opponents service is just simply stunning
I should have watch this match : incredible good points !
Spot on. He read Rublev like an open book plus the power and shot making was unreal.
Rublev wasn't that bad today. Botic is such a monster :)
He was, he lost many matches in this way, a number 6 can t loose like that.
Medvedev destroed Botik at us open
@@Flash_5790 you can't say that he destroy him when he is the only player who get set from him
@@Flash_5790 Botic was the only one who took a set from him and it was very close till the very end.
Botic is streaky. Definitely has game but Rublev is getting too predictable and not being as mentally tough as usually is.
Much respect and admiration for Botic Van de Zandschulp. Not only did he dismantle Rublev (whose typical yell+winner was defeated easily) but he did so with honor, respect, and dignity AND no showboating! Like old school gentle person's tennis! Respect and no "in your face" nonsense! The game needs more of that back!!!
Really liked his calm, laid back demeanor.
Me too
The ground strokes look so smooth and effortless, like those players in "World of Tennis: Roaring 20's". Botic is just beautiful to watch
Hopefully Botic Van de Zandschulp keeps playing well and rises in the ranking, it is seen that he is humble and that is something very good, in addition to having good shots.
I myself am extraordinarily humble
Am of Dutch descent, hope Botic can keep playing this well. Man, he hits hard. Was odd seeing Rublev getting torched from the baseline.
@TH4U are Dutch men circumsized?
@@lanacastillo49 what the fuck lmao
@@simondoan69 it's a valid curious question in case I end up meeting with one
VdZ is fun to watch, especially with that much easy power in the forehand, kinda like Berdych
I would say his power is more like Soderling than Berdych
@@faco1327 ya I agree. Sign him up with Norman and we get another GS caliber player in couple years
Don t compare him neither with Berdych or Soderling, they are GS finalists, he did nothing till now and tomorrow he will be beaten by Cilic, even 33 years old far from his best will be enough to beat VDZ.
@@cuorenerazzurro1661 okey man. chill
@@cuorenerazzurro1661 6-3 6-1 VDZ against that choker
So refreshing to watch someone so powerful yet so quiet. He is not internally distracted allowing him to have a good read of his opponent. His anticipatory skill is topnotch!
Rublev met his master. Want to see Van lot more often. Humble and incredible power and court IQ.
As a dutch guy,we need this kind of ambassador of the tennis sport for our country, very proud of VDZ!
Steven Van Zandt still got some US Open ‘21 left in him after all.
Botic’s return is unbelievable, very underrated.
holland shit
VdZ, welcome to the party. Late Bloomer but he's made it. It finally all clicked mentally for him. Fun player to watch, good luck to him.
With distance the best tennis player we've got at the moment in The Netherlands. And he has still room to improve if you ask me. What a performance!
t.griekspoor is also doing very good this year in challengers alongwith botic, had a rough patch in the middle of the year, among leaders of challenger titles with 6 or 5 with baez n bonzi.i think bonzi won all on hard court n baez won all on clay but griekspoor won on both surfaces.
calm down baby brotha
Maybe Botic needs to come in as a qualifier to do well in a tournament??? LOL. Love his unassuming demeanor. Some of the gets in here are unbelievable, and the angles he can create with the forehand are completely savage.
Botic and Aslan, the two veterans who drastically improved out of nowhere.
the pandemic has produced outliers!
Veterans?
Ivashka too
Botic is a veteran as Medvedev.
@@zjzr08 he is only 25 Years old
‘Great’ handshake from Rublev there at the end….lol
Botic is such a dreamboat!!! 😍😍😍 He really conquered Rublev here! Must be the humblest guy on tour, don't know if it's Dutch thing. Imagine wiping his wrist when getting a point and he's one of the best varied tennis I've watched these days. In fact, he played qualifying round here and Rublev is his 5th win. 😍
@@TheNabOwnzz 😂Dude
It's not a Dutch thing, we also have Haase ;-)
Botic played very well and was very calm. So compliments, hope to see more of him.
Botic easily handles the hard hitting from Rublev. Impressive
Rublev is always angry but bare funny when he loses 😂
He's not angry. He's just pissed.
@@mublikbublik7911 smashing a ball into the stands can define anger from Mr Rublev
But in this game, he's not as physical to himself than I've seen him recently(from Tommy Paul). Even in doubles last night with Karen, he smashes his racquet to his legs so much. This time, it's lowkey and toned down. lmao
@@Sam-ls7xd Apparently he has some temper issue. He did the same thing after losing to Tommy Paul at Indian Wells.
From the day I played you when you were just a 12 year old kid I knew you had something special. It's finally coming out Botic!
What was the score? Just asking for my curiosity
euk man, om dit dan zo te zien. Hoe voel je jezelf nu? Tekortgeschoten toch ergens? Verbazing? Of totale vrede mee?
calm down baby brotha nederlanden
@@hirendrall7215 6-0 6-5 (I gave up). Mind you I was 19 at the time and playing my balls out in the 2nd set.
Where has he been all the time .....this guy is sooooo talented , love to watch him playing ...stay focus and you'll get a top ten player ...#cheering for botic van de sandschulp
Remember that he is the only one to take a set against Medvedev at Us Open!
@Ryo Shusuke is Gay and he didn't have a physio or anyone else with him in the US Open because he couldn't afford one!
So glad that van de Zandschulp managed to beat Rublev. Tennis needs new blood when big three is gone
'Now the big three is gone,' :)
Rublev is younger than VdZ lmao glad he beat him too though
So simple, so powerful when he need it, with no grunt! Essential
That was a damn masterclass! Both Rublev and Rubic were hitting that ball so hard during the rallies!
BvDZ's contemporary is Kyrgios so he's technically in the front end of "NextGen" but it is insane he took this look to breakthrough...big strokes but efficient.
Rublev desperately needs a plan B. This hard-hitting will only work for so long.
There will always be someone that comes along that can hit harder, more consistent, etc.
Botic actually hit harder in many cases. It may not look like it when you dont BWEEEHH, but those were real power backhands and forehands in the highlights!
Rublev doesn't really shine on any aspect but forehand power. And his is not the best. Today Botic's forehand was superb, 2-3x more powerful, and he can also spin that ball.
Like many other tennis players of the new generation unfortunatly!
Rublev is jimmy connors maybe just to low glycemic needs too get his weight up runs out of energy he is fast at a low weight anyhoo
I friekin *love* watching Botic play tennis! Fascinating shot selection.
Thank you Botic van de Zandschulp for tennis masterclass. This is one with Rublev and Schwartzman are my favorites, but in this game your hands is twice as gobsmacking as Andrey's hard hitting shots. There's always mystery when you play👍
BVZ has such an easy, effortless manner to his game which I really like. His backhand slice kind of reminds me of Jana Novotna's. I am glad he is able to continue his great form from the US Open.
Wow that guy has some power, what a fun match this was, did not see this coming.
Very calm person...botic loved man
Man I've been liking the way botic has been playing this year. He's had some great runs and he plays well. Pretty under the radar amongst the others. I'll Call him the flying dutchman if he plays like this all the time!
Andrei needs to change his coach. He needs to find someone that will make him more diverse since he is absolutely one dimentional and when he lacks confidence like he does this season he is just unable to change resist good playing opponents.
Well hello again Botic! Um hi! Um... *swoons* he’s so quiet and reserved. He’s got that school you energy! Lol absolute pleasure to watch.
First spotted Botic's unreal performance against Ruud in US Open. If he keep practice, take care of his health, improve on his physics, hungry like Nadal, calm like Federer, and technical like Djokovic, Botic gonna be a nightmare to every player in the tour. No doubt.
Great victory for Vdz in St Petersburg Tournament
Good for van de Zandschulp! He fully deserved the win, he played very well.
Just incredible~~!
WOW! What was that? Some of those backhands were the speed of light.
Wow...and very nice to see somone not that highly ranked (by now) being in God mode...
Yes!. Go Botic💪💪.
some of those returns were 🥵🔥
The "Where has this guy being" just killed me.
RIP
What a legend
Rublev: BWEH! Zand: Rublev: @#$%&*! I always root for the quiet ones. 😏
His wrists are made of steel. How much power he generates so easily. 😱👏🏽👌🏽👍🏽
That was an impressive dismantling of a top 10 player! The way he played would have beaten anybody on the other side.
Wow, the Dutchman is like Berdych 2.0., easy power. Well done 👍🏼
Jugadorazo!!!
never heard of him, what a player
Zandschulp has such an easy power. Rublev is like Sabalenka. His grunts are heavier than his shots. Zandschulp is a favorite against Cilic cause the Croatian has played two matches that lasted 3 sets and must be tired.
Botic ....super smooth power......
Rublev can start to add volleys and drops into his game. He is one of the best power hitters and this match showed how you cannot lean on one ball in modern tennis. I also believe Rublev is more athletic of the two and can add points by forcing his counterpart to move. None the less awesome match from the Dutchman! Amazingly disciplined and was behind every ball he struck, it was an absolute masterclass on hitting the ball. I would say everyone can learn from the technique displayed in this match. Outstanding.
i think i like sandman better than my oldman karaxiev. sandman is a consistent player, doesn't beat himself. watching a consistent player is enjoyable. (that's why i never watch shapo struff etc)
Rublev will forever remember this match with 'Van de' as that 'one day'
Holy shit. Botic VdZ playing some unbelievable tennis. Best highlights of all todays matches came off of his racquet.
Djokovic to Botic: "Aight, you can have my game till I get back"
can we talk about 2:41 insane return of serve from outside the doubles court
VDZ has low string tension racquet or he really finds great timing from time to time?
unbelievable!!!!!
WoW 😯. Van de Zandschulp is rising
Ehhhhh I need to watch that again!! #unbelievable
Awesome!!!
BVDZ is like my fav next gen player
He has such a high tennis IQ
Let’s go Botic 🔥🔥
he is a future grand slam winner!
Let Botik thru these qualies!
what an amplitude from VDZ, incredible power demo, Rublev looks slow now
VdZ plays smooth like Tomic
Lord Botic pulled through….. next time he faces a top 5 opponent I’ll be sure to bet
bravo
Fantastic Flying Dutchman
Well done Botiiic
very strong !
WTF!!!! Dutch was on 🔥
What amazed me most were these blistering forehands from VDZ, such easy power and so fast, Rublev was often in the right corner but had no chance, he simply hit through Rublev 1:29
2:46 rublev in the background relatable 😭
Botic win! It was a great surprise, but he played very well and deserved to win.
Never heard of this guy and he's 26! Might be a new Karatsev late bloomer :)
like karatsev..post covid challengers...he had lot of success alongwith bonzi, baez n another dutch t.griekspoor.
God mode indeed
to the gu that said "Medvedev's us open draw was easy" - look at this and tell me it was easy
A few years ago I saw van de zandschulp losing in the qualies in Rotterdam tournament against Pierre hughes Herbert. Already then I saw that he could match with top 100 players. Now he is finally believing it himself.
Nobody hates Botic. Everyone like
02:56 cant believe the speed of that forehand
Veels geluk maatjie VDZ!
The way this guy plays reminds of me of Soderling
Quiet, however powerful and effective!
no more words than.....WOOW Botic;P
This is the problem with power hitters like Karatsev and Rublev. When that's all you depend on it's going to work against you when your opponent can handle it and return it back with interest. Not to mention the fact that VDZ has other abilities in his game. Terrific performance by the Dutch player.
Bweeeh is one dimensional player , no plan B, no plan C...just like Shampo
