  • For those wondering, the heat scrambles the magnetic domains inside the magnet, disrupting any magnetic force it was previously generating. The magnetizer then realigned all of them even more uniformly than it was before the heat was applied, hence the increase in force.

    • @@CrackShot-3 magnetic domains make up magnets and naturally magnetic metals/compounds. They are clusters of crystalline minerals, wherein most crystals are physically aligned with each other. The more crystals are aligned, the more magnetic force that magnetic domain generates. If all or most magnetic domains inside a magnet are oriented the same way, they come together to combine their force and produce the magnetic field of the magnet. Since heat adds entropy to a system, applying heat to magnets cause these clusters to fall out of alignment with one another, so their forces will be projected in all different directions, canceling each other out and producing little to no measurable magnetic field overall. Magnetizers realign the clusters, allowing them to once again generate a uniform magnetic field. I’m by no means an expert in this field and my explanation may be flawed, but this is my understanding and google could probably do a better job at explaining than I can lol.

    • @@cekart I believe that over time the strength of the magnet may degrade due to entropy, however it’s conceivable that if you could somehow ensure that the magnet remained I disturbed for eternity and all it’s magnetic domains remained aligned, it would never degrade.

  • For anyone wondering how the heat killed the magnet, it was heated passed a point called the curie point (named after Pierre Curie), which is a temperature where certain materials (a neodymium magnet, in this case) lose their permanent magnetic properties. In the case of the magnet, the curie point is between 590-720°F (310°-400°C). That machine brought the magnet back, and stronger, via induced magnetism
