Hey Goodhumans! This was one of the most requested episodes we’ve had. It was also one of the toughest to tackle for our team, but deeply illuminating for us as well. We hope the same for you. Here at Jubilee, we believe in the value of open & honest discussions in order to pave a path towards empathy and develop a better understanding of people with different perspectives. Capturing the complexity and deeper nuances of a topic in a short period is incredibly difficult. However, we hope this discussion can inspire you to dive deeper and spark your own conversations. We’d love to be a part of it and hear your own insights below, so please share 🙂
This shouldn't be a debate. The lives of the youth is at stake.

I do like your videos but tbh this one let the skeptics get away with a bit too much misinformation. Maybe fact checking on screen would be good? I know you all want to stay neutral but staying neutral and staying in the middle are two different things, when one side is far to one aisle than staying in the middle would not be neutral

THE LAAAAAWN!!!!!!!!
Alexia Gonzalez ikr they are basically saying “we have to keep the USA going to get money and to satisfy ourselves.” If we ban certain things like large amounts of factories producing pollution we will have a decrease in jobs. (Loosing people, money, etc) We have to do better; not just ban things. Little things help but it will help greatly in the future. For example, banning plastic bags or common plastic items (or reducing selling amounts which will make someone very upset). Someone has to take the hits for protecting our earth... which is us because we are all so selfish.
For sure. That one woman was all saying how she had no say in her state but I don't think she realizes how much say she has compared to literally every other country. Yeah but Russia's only income is made by selling gas - and Russia has Methan under it's ice, which is melting right now and Methan is way, WAY worse than CO2. And China...guess what. They are the worst country for pollution. Right now they are on par with the US for CO2 emission, but they have three times the population, so in the future it will be three times the pollution. This dude brought up LAWNS as a argument against fighting climate change 😂. Sorry but lawns are a needless symbol of class that are useless outside of water waste.
I totally agree with you that lawns are completely a useless argument against climate change but I would like to point out that lawns aren't useless! We use our lawn for children to play on and when we have sheep that's where they stay
Aida McEwen Most neighbourhoods have parks that provide large fields for all children to play on. In this day and age, I rarely see children outside playing at all. A decade ago, this would have been different, but times have changed. Sheep don’t live on lawns. Lawns exist in our front and backyards, I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen any sheep being raised in yards. You’re talking about pastures.
Aida McEwen ... I don’t know if that was sarcasm. If it was, forgive me. However, if it was serious, I’m not even going to address the sheep. That’s just ridiculous. However, are you saying your children need grass to play on as a necessity? Water, shelter, and food are necessities. I won’t go further in case, again, it was sarcasm.
I think your argument would work even without reducing stuff down to class. Lawns can also be used for growing food, reducing car trips to activities or even parks and forests. If it's determined by experts to be a meaningful negative I wouldn't mind regulation, but that doesn't mean I'm some capitalist puppet for enjoying green next to where I live.
karen dunn Healthy lawns actually help cool the air temperature. That proposal solves one issue but helps create another.
Skeptic guy: *hates China for a living* Also Skeptic guy: “I don’t want to change cos China won’t”
China actually has been doing a lot in helping with climate change. I am originally from China and one of my relatives visited Beijing. It's doing a lot in converting to renewable energy sources. Might not be making a huge difference as of right now, but for the long term. The reason China and India produces so much C02 is that they have the largest populations and are fast growing nations. If you search up PER PERSON C02 emissions, US would be #1. US's pollution is extremely unproportional to its population size.
Small suggestion: Start doing Jubilee video's with people from all around the world, not only Americans. That would really show all kinds of perspectives throughout the world. I understand the quality of the video's would go down as not everyone can speak as fluently as natives but it would really add another layer of depth to see and hear the opinions of people on other parts of the globe :)
Very well said! I love these videos, but I very often feel alienated because they seem to be based on the wrongful assumption that the US represents the world.

A debate cannot be had when one side refuses to accept basic reality and scientific fact. And we didn't make this a political issue. They did.
I agree the activists are out of touch with reality.
A debate cannot be had when one side says the other doesn't accept basic reality. There's no "basic reality" with climate change. It's a slippery slope with the consequences being unknown. There's legitimate statistics pointing to the end of humanity within a few centuries, and there's legitimate statistics showing it will have little consequence. Don't boil this down to being "simple" when its really not.
@@demetter7936 it’s not simple by any means but it’s still an issue that we as humanity have a power to change in small acts within our community. I’m pretty sure everyone with the knowledge of basic 7th grade science understands that climate change IS affecting the world in a negative way. We don’t know the outcome if we don’t do anything about it 100% but we WILL understand the outcome if we actually do something about it like normalizing recycling in every day homes around the world and actually caring about our surroundings. Time will only tell.

I live in Belgium and there have currently been catastrophic inundations because of climate change. Homes were destroyed, villages were underwater, people drowed, people died. Even though all of this happened nowhere near where I lived, some children in my school did. While I was having the best holiday in spain, I got emailed by the school. While a student was in summer camp, she fell into the river, she was swept away by the current of the river and found by a farmer, dead in a field, far away from where she was last seen. She was only 14. And I am now watching a pair of old people gambling on and on about how none of this is true, that this extremely brutal climate change is just natural? They are the generation who started to destroy our earth, and they are still shamelessly continuing to do so. While they have fulfilled there "destiny" and lived there life, because of their ignorance and their selfishness, young people pay the priceof their actions, the future of humanity is dying. They control the narrative. 0.8 degrees Celsius/1.4 degrees Fahrenheit in difference in the last 140 years is alarming.
I wish the climate activists would have brought more data to the conversation such as the cost efficiency of renewables. Skeptics want choice but they also won't make safe choices if they continue to be willfully misinformed.

I kind of agree with both lol. the every day person has to change so much, and i'm sure it helps a little..... but also, the biggest things are out of our control. because it's the big companies that needs to change. Farming and slaughting animals..... fishing industry... THOSE things will still be there even if we go eco... i think the pressure is too big on people who already struggle. it's politics and industries that ruin things NOT us normal people.

Is it just me or do the climate change skeptics seem selfish? Like bruh, our earth is dying and all you care about is money? “When the last tree is cut down, the last fish eaten, and the last stream poisoned, you will realize that you cannot eat money.”
They are right, if the US is the only one to change their way of doing things, you'll just end up worse while other powerhouses like Russia or China will rip the benefits.

Rim pak so what just be selfish? This isn’t a country problem. This is a world problem. The US has a big impact, we aren’t as environmentally friendly as one may think. If we find solutions other countries may follow. China has already made strides bc the issues have gotten so badly. China is a big factor but if we figure in the population, the US is one of the highest users of carbon emissions per person in the world. who the hell water loans? I think I've never seen it be more popular other than in America. I mean, I don't want to seem too aggressive, but It's just a waste of water in my opinion... There are some cases where you might want to do it, but I see that on most cases is just to have "pretty grass". you don't need to have the greenest lawn in the neighbourhood, that's just a waste for your own ego. we already have a huge use of water for golf fields and an excessive meat production (fields of food to feed animals). I think that that is plenty enough. We are the biggest consumers of meat and the biggest owner of running water. WE have the responsibility to preserve our resources. Also, I want to point out that if water was infinite, than I'd have nothing against wasting tons of it. But water is not in abundance and I think we need to give it some more respect and importance.

I'm with the 99% of you guys on climate change being a huge issue, but I don't think "life or death" is fitting. These sort of problems exist in every generation and we always deal with them, yes we need to do something but we cant force a way of life on everyone. Obviously small regulations and educating everyone is good, but putting people out of work goes too far. I'm not against climate change but it's not just an "inconvenience", and its not "life or death".
Noor Nasri Why not? Laws force a way of life on everyone in one way or another.
Something I didn't hear when the activists and skeptics were discussing costs is the impact on the economically disadvantaged. Many people cannot simply choose to drive less because they commute to work & can't easily get new jobs closer to their homes. Also, the average person can't just go out & buy a Tesla. Some middle class families can afford hybrid vehicles, but people trying to work their way out of poverty (or keep from slipping into poverty) have to drive whatever kind of car they can afford, even if it's not "green."

"climate change has nothing to do with humans" , when the largest decrease in air pollution was recorded during lockdowns in numerous countries.
Idk even how people think this. After the industrial revolution, you can see how the CO2 levels are just rising and rising, and how the temperature follows a similar, almost exact path.
@foop some climate “skeptics” say the CO2 lagged the temperature the past 1 million years. But that was due to orbital cycles and CO2 caused the 2nd warming. And the current warming is definitely human caused. But people don’t want to see that.

Skeptics summed up : money > environment + future generations + earth
+ China
Economic Growth increases standards of living. Standards of living improve our lives with convinient products and services. To make a book you require to cut down a tree. Cutting down a tree is environmentally negative. Ebooks exist online, having a ebook on your device saves millions of trees everyday. That is pretty much what Skeptics or Economist believe.
@@chronenojysk5107 the device you reed ebooks on has an impact too, the electricity you consume in order to make it work has an impact too. It's not that easy to evaluate which alternative is more environmentally friendly.
+ public safety and health
@@Silviiiii21 Nuclear Powerplant is more environmentally friendly, safer, cheaper and efficient than Solar and wind generators.
"Why should we do something, when China is worse than us" This mindset is extremely childish and basic. Just because someone else is "worse than us" doesn't grant us the right to completely disregard climate change. As a country the U.S. has many resources and the largest economy. It is our responsibility to do what's in our power to help our world.
When I was younger my parents were always telling me to compare myself to the "best" rather than to the worst or you'll never improve. It's funny how they don't seem to get this basic notion.
In a way we are also partially responsible for China's emissions. We outsource a TON of our cheap production needs to China, and only care when the smog is carried by wind patterns to the West Coast...
Funny how china is doing a lot of investing in renewable energy and they probably produce the most start up companies for electric vehicles. That is because china doesn't have all these regulations that U.S. has when it comes to technology. Plus I love how U.S. complains about China, yet U.S. produce a lot of waste compared to a country that has 5x the population number and is 2nd in global economy. And did people forget, China is producing a lot of waste primarily from factories, factories that make things for U.S. consumers
