  • Hey Goodhumans! This was one of the most requested episodes we’ve had. It was also one of the toughest to tackle for our team, but deeply illuminating for us as well. We hope the same for you. Here at Jubilee, we believe in the value of open & honest discussions in order to pave a path towards empathy and develop a better understanding of people with different perspectives. Capturing the complexity and deeper nuances of a topic in a short period is incredibly difficult. However, we hope this discussion can inspire you to dive deeper and spark your own conversations. We’d love to be a part of it and hear your own insights below, so please share 🙂

I know you all want to stay neutral but staying neutral and staying in the middle are two different things, when one side is far to one aisle than staying in the middle would not be neutral

America cant fix the problems earth has, every country does, and you know what that means? More taxes for Americans because what i said earlier about "America cant fix the problems..." is wrong. We can, we just have to pay the other countries a lot of money to be able to, and then hope that they actually do and dont just take the money.

(Loosing people, money, etc) We have to do better; not just ban things. Little things help but it will help greatly in the future. For example, banning plastic bags or common plastic items (or reducing selling amounts which will make someone very upset). Someone has to take the hits for protecting our earth... which is us because we are all so selfish.

They are the worst country for pollution. Right now they are on par with the US for CO2 emission, but they have three times the population, so in the future it will be three times the pollution. @Gildedpossum@Gildedpossum4 жыл бұрын
    • I totally agree with you that lawns are completely a useless argument against climate change but I would like to point out that lawns aren't useless! We use our lawn for children to play on and when we have sheep that's where they stay

      @aidamcewen6884@aidamcewen68844 жыл бұрын
    • Aida McEwen Most neighbourhoods have parks that provide large fields for all children to play on. In this day and age, I rarely see children outside playing at all. A decade ago, this would have been different, but times have changed. Sheep don’t live on lawns. Lawns exist in our front and backyards, I don’t know about you, but I haven’t seen any sheep being raised in yards. You’re talking about pastures.

      @carollgao359@carollgao3594 жыл бұрын
    • Aida McEwen ... I don’t know if that was sarcasm. If it was, forgive me. However, if it was serious, I’m not even going to address the sheep. That’s just ridiculous. However, are you saying your children need grass to play on as a necessity? Water, shelter, and food are necessities. I won’t go further in case, again, it was sarcasm.

      @samanthajames6857@samanthajames68574 жыл бұрын
    • I think your argument would work even without reducing stuff down to class. Lawns can also be used for growing food, reducing car trips to activities or even parks and forests. It's doing a lot in converting to renewable energy sources. Might not be making a huge difference as of right now, but for the long term. The reason China and India produces so much C02 is that they have the largest populations and are fast growing nations. If you search up PER PERSON C02 emissions, US would be #1. US's pollution is extremely unproportional to its population size.

    • A debate cannot be had when one side says the other doesn't accept basic reality. There's no "basic reality" with climate change. It's a slippery slope with the consequences being unknown. There's legitimate statistics pointing to the end of humanity within a few centuries, and there's legitimate statistics showing it will have little consequence. Don't boil this down to being "simple" when its really not.

      @demetter7936@demetter79362 жыл бұрын
    • @@demetter7936 it’s not simple by any means but it’s still an issue that we as humanity have a power to change in small acts within our community. I’m pretty sure everyone with the knowledge of basic 7th grade science understands that climate change IS affecting the world in a negative way. We don’t know the outcome if we don’t do anything about it 100% but we WILL understand the outcome if we actually do something about it like normalizing recycling in every day homes around the world and actually caring about our surroundings. • I live in Belgium and there have currently been catastrophic inundations because of climate change. Homes were destroyed, villages were underwater, people drowed, people died. Even though all of this happened nowhere near where I lived, some children in my school did. While I was having the best holiday in spain, I got emailed by the school. While a student was in summer camp, she fell into the river, she was swept away by the current of the river and found by a farmer, dead in a field, far away from where she was last seen. She was only 14. And I am now watching a pair of old people gambling on and on about how none of this is true, that this extremely brutal climate change is just natural? They are the generation who started to destroy our earth, and they are still shamelessly continuing to do so. While they have fulfilled there "destiny" and lived there life, because of their ignorance and their selfishness, young people pay the priceof their actions, the future of humanity is dying. And I'm beginning to think, maybe a world without humanity would be a better world.

Then yes, sometimes you have to do things you might not want to do, which is trying to protect our planet. If we go on like this and give people the choice whether to try to help our planet or not despite thinking "eh future generations might not have a healthy planet like that but hey, I don't want to do this because it's too much work and there's no chance in my lifetime it could result into something worse", we're not going to have something sustainable for future generations. For those who can’t sit through long videos they could upload these small clips (don’t totally agree with that because your not getting the whole picture) along with the full clip. This is just my opinion based on patterns I noticed in their editing. Change starts with oneself first, rather than waiting for someone else to make the first move why not take that first step yourself. I'm sure there's people in China who's also trying to make a change, it just takes time and effort because a they're mostly outnumbered by those who'd rather destroy the environment than try to be eco friendly. The U.S. can have a net-zero emissions, and it wouldn't make a difference when China, India, and other nations are continuing their activities.

There are some cases where you might want to do it, but I see that on most cases is just to have "pretty grass". you don't need to have the greenest lawn in the neighbourhood, that's just a waste for your own ego. we already have a huge use of water for golf fields and an excessive meat production (fields of food to feed animals). I think that that is plenty enough. We are the biggest consumers of meat and the biggest owner of running water. WE have the responsibility to preserve our resources. Many people cannot simply choose to drive less because they commute to work & can't easily get new jobs closer to their homes. Also, the average person can't just go out & buy a Tesla. Some middle class families can afford hybrid vehicles, but people trying to work their way out of poverty (or keep from slipping into poverty) have to drive whatever kind of car they can afford, even if it's not "green."

    • Jonathan Hwang it’s the same list as 99% of scientists agree. Neither exists. They’re both full of it.

    • I think she mixed up the facts. I was looking for this so-called "letter", but the only thing I found was a complete opposite, in which about 3k scientists said that man has an impact on climate change, so....

    • Boomers are strange creatures. As millennial, we just need to get rid of front lawns, because obsessing over a small patch of the worlds most boring plant sounds unhealthy.

    • There are a few places in Japan that specialize in moss lawns. They produce more oxygen, use less water, and are avascular, so don't grow as high as regular grass. I can't wait to grow my own. And can you imagine the look on your neighbors face when you move into the neighborhood with your moss patches?

  • Sometimes it seems like that constitution is a double-edged blade. Cause holy crap there's a lot of people who stick to that with no capability to think a straight thought on their own. It's a constitution! It can be changed!
