How to Apply Compound, Polish & Wax by Hand - Quik Tips
So, your car’s not looking quite as good as it used to, and you would like to dedicate some extra time detailing the paint to getting it looking its best. You have done your research & you’ve decided you want to do a multi-step system by hand.
It's possible to get great results using a compound, polish or wax by hand and the process isn’t extremely complicated as long as you use the right products, you use clean, premium accessories and the right technique. So, how do you apply compound, polish and wax by hand?
Begin by washing your car with a premium car wash that pH balanced to remove any loose contaminants from the surface. Then, evaluate the paint to determine if there are above surface contaminants.
Next, run your clean, dry fingertips over the paint. If the paint feels rough, this tells us there are above surface contaminants bonded on top of the paint. It’s important to remove these contaminants in order to get best results. It's easy to remove above surface contaminants with one of Meguiar’s consumer clay kits like Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Clay Kit or Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay Kit. If your paint already feels completely smooth, skip this step and move on.
For this step, visually inspect your paint with proper lighting for below surface defects like swirls, scratches, oxidation and stains. If you have light to moderate below surface defects you want to use a scratch remover or clear coat safe compound like Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound. This product is the perfect way to remove defects in the paint without hazing or marring the surface like a traditional compound.
When using a compound by hand we recommend using a Meguiar’s Soft Foam Applicator Pad. Dispense a small amount of Ultimate Compound directly on the pad. With light to moderate pressure, work a 2’ x 2’ section for about 1-2 minutes in an overlapping pattern.
Be sure to apply even pressure over the pad. Wipe the residue off before it dries with a fresh, clean Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel. Then, turn the towel over to a clean side for your final wipe. Re-apply as needed, working in sections over the entire vehicle.
Once you’ve removed the below surface paint defects, the next step is to polish, especially if you are going for the best results. Using a polish further refines the paint surface & adds polishing oils for maximum gloss and depth of shine. This is an optional step that will enhance depth of shine on any color, but it’s most effective on darker and more brilliant colors.
One of best polishes is Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze.
To apply by hand, we recommend using a Soft Foam Applicator Pad. Dispense a small amount directly on the pad. Apply to a 2’ x 2’ section at a time using light to moderate pressure in a circular pattern, making 4-6 overlapping passes per section. Wipe off immediately before it dries with a Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel. Again, turn your towel to a clean portion for the final wipe. Work in sections like this over the vehicle.
Applying a coat of wax protection after you’ve prepared the paint with a compound and polish will help preserve the work you’ve done, and keep the paint looking better, for longer.
In addition, wax provides significant protection against elements in the environment, added gloss, and that all important water beading action which can help your car stay cleaner & makes washing and maintaining easier.
One of Meguiar’s best and longest lasting protections is Meguiar’s Ultimate Liquid Wax. Ultimate Wax easy to use, offers a brilliant depth of shine, and leaves behind a durable polymer protection. Another great option is Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax. Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax is an easy to use wax that utilizes Meguiar’s latest cutting-edge chemistry, and is one of our most durable, longest lasting, and most extreme water beading waxes we offer.
Apply either product with a Soft Foam Applicator Pad, spread a thin coat to a section. Allow to cure 3-5 minutes and remove with a Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel. Turn to a clean portion of the towel for a final wipe. Work in sections until you’ve finished the entire vehicle.
With the right products, accessories & techniques you can get amazing results doing a multi-step system…And you don’t have to use a machine.

That Ultimate Compound is absolutely great. I live in Finland just bought a second hand car in winter. As I made a "spring wash" it had scuff marks and little scratches here and there. Also under the door handels it was horribly scuffed. The Utimate compund made it all gone. If you don't have a machine polisher, it's OK as the Ultimate Compund is easy and fast to use by hand only. Of course deeper scratches are impossible to cure, but the compound makes them look better also.
❤️ Thanks for the great feedback!
What about durability
I have used the ultimate polish and really did a difference the car paint was fine but with small swirls scratches and the coating lost some shine but using it with a orbital polisher did a great difference now have a mirror like shine as just picked out from car dealer .
Literally bought all the stuff at Walmart and gonna detail my genesis tomorrow

Hello, love the video. When I compound/polish each 2x2 section how many sections can I use with that same pad until I have to clean it? Or can I keep using the same pad throughout the compounding/polishing phase. And if I have to clean it, what is the best way to clean the pad before going to the next section? Thanks
Typically when applying products by hand with a foam applicator pad you do not need to clean the pad during the job; however if you feel there is some kind of contamination on the pad you can certainly grab a new/fresh applicator pad and use it. Once done with the job you can wash the applicator pads in your washing machine just as you would your other towels.
@@meguiarsso one pad is enough to do an entire car? I mean one for compounding, one for polishing and one for waxing of course
Great video! Question. If you've never waxed your car before, how often should you wax it? Would fall and again in spring be adequate?
How long any given wax lasts can be highly variable and depends on a number of factors including the environment it is exposed to. Generally speaking for a daily driver we recommend waxing at least 3-4 times per year but in some cases, on a well-maintained vehicle, they could certainly last longer.
Where do I get those buckets haha... they would go great with the rest of the products in my garage

in this video, it would have been nice if there was a "before and after" shot of the paintwork. Especially with that fancy LED to showcase the paintwork's imperfections prior to correcting.
I’ve been using Meguiars professional version (the ones in the yellowish bottles with the 2 digit #s. I have the compounds in the polishing bottles in the CarNuba wax) for close to 15 years. How does that compare to the “ultimate” Version shown in this video ? I still have my orbital dual action buffer with Meguiars name on it and the Maguires black bag. I bought this kit between 15 to 20 years ago. I still use it to this day that dual action polisher is incredible
Not sure which exact products you are asking to compare but generally speaking the Ultimate Compound is likely more effective and the Ultimate Wax, being a purely synthetic sealant, will also protect better/longer. It also has the added benefit of not staining the trim white. Can i skip the ultimate compound step and just wash, polish, and wax if my paint is in good condition? I already clayed.
Yes, if there are no below surface paint defects (scratches, water spots, oxidation, stains, etc.) you can skip the compounding step.
Meguiar's products are by far the best when it comes to car care. Not cheap but worth every penny. ❤️
Thank you for your support and loyalty!
I have already applied Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax on my car. Can I directly go wash and apply compound? or I need to take out the Hybrid Ceramic Wax?
Greate Videos.....Please help me... I have a new car and have very very light surface defects. Do I need to use "Ultimate Compound" or can I skip it and only use "Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze". Could I only apply the "Ultimate Polish Pre-Waxing Glaze" for a longer time (or apply many time) to achieve the same result as using both?... Thank you!
You can certainly try the Ultimate Polish but keep in mind it is primarily a polish and has only minimal defect removing capability. In many cases, especially if the paint is harder, you will need a compound to remove even light defects. There is also no reason to fear Ultimate Compound as it is very safe and easy to use.
very nice 👍
Thank you! 😀
After polishing, could u use Meguiars gold class instead of the ultimate wax?
Yes, you use any wax of your choosing. 👍
1.would 1 bottle of compound be enough on a sedan? 2.if ive been told that my clear coat is so thin, shop refused polishing my car, can i still use this ultimate compound by hand or no? 3.whats better ultimate carwax or these liquid waxes you have mentioned?
1. Yes, a one bottle of compound should be enough to do a few cars. 2. We cannot speak to the condition of your clear coat without evaluating it. If it is past the point of mild-moderate oxidation and is nearing or has reached actual paint failure the shop may be correct in their assessment. 3. Not sure how to answer that without more specifics as to which two products you are hoping to compare.

Question. Should you use a towel for each section while compunding or polishing?
As is shown in the video we recommend a foam applicator for application and a good quality microfiber towel for wipe off. No, you do not typically need a different towel for each section but you will at least want a towel or two for each step of the process depending on the size of the vehicle.
I need those buckets!

Thank you for your feedback, we will be sure to inform our team.
Do you compound the whole panel first after all the 2by2 sections THEN apply the polish to the whole panel... or do one 2by2 and apply the polish straight after?
Not entirely sure what you are asking here? If compounding and polishing you should first compound the whole car (or section that needs it) working a 2X2 area at a time and wiping off immediately before the product has a chance to dry. After you finish compounding the entire vehicle (or the affected areas) you will do the exact same thing with the polish.
@@meguiars yeah that’s basically what i was asking. Great cheers
👍
You guys said in the video that the hybrid ceramic liquid wax lasts the longest from all your products, what about Meguires Fast Finish which says it protects for 1 year? Which one should I use for longer durability
If you read the claim on the can of Fast Finish you will see it was related to a very specific testing method. We made no claim it would last a year regardless of the environment. The new Hybrid Ceramic Wax will protect better / last longer. Sorry, for the confusion! 👍
Was wondering if there’s a hex foam applicator I could use? Those thin microfiber applicators are brutal on the hands after awhile
Can't say we here that often but we do appreciate the feedback. No, unfortunately there are no other foam pads for hand application.
Tiny circles will take me hours. Any difference if I go in long overlapping sweeps?
Assuming you are referencing application of the compound the pattern is not the issue as much as the fact that the product does have to be worked into the surface with some (moderate) pressure. You also only want to do about a 2X2 ft area and then immediately wipe off because you don't want the product to dry at all.
@@meguiars okay thanks for the tips yeah I was referring to the application pattern
What is the curing time between (polish to a sealant) and (sealant to a detailer)? I am planning to top up the polish with a sealant and a detailer. Do you recommend to apply just after each application or is it better off to wait before any application?
You can apply one right after the other.
If I am going to use an orbital what kind of pads do I need use to apply each step?
You really need to know what kind of machine you have and how pads attach to it. All of our pads are designed for use with DA or Rotary machines and will not work on many orbital buffers. Our typical recommendations when working with a DA are... When compounding use a foam cutting pad/disc When polishing use a foam polishing pad/disc When waxing use a foam finishing pad
When should i use a wool pad, is that when the scratches are deeper? I got an old 19yr Civic with quite some scratches and would like to try to get look a little bit better. I got a couple foam pads but also got on grip with a small wool pad.
This is a bigger conversation that needs more information from you to answer adequately. Please feel free to reach out to our Solutions Hub with more specifics of the machine you are using, the vehicle/paint, your level of experience with a buffer, etc. s.3m.com/elaz3
Thanks for the guide! I have a question, can I use the Meguiars Ultimate Compound before applying the ceramic? This compound without waxes/silicones or other additives that prevent adhesion? The course of action is: -Completely wash and clean the paintwork. -Manually polishing with Meguiars Ultimate Compound -Ceramic application. *Meguiars in my country they advised me to use strong polishes, but as a beginner I'm afraid to rub the varnish too much. They only recommend applying waxes, but I want a long-lasting ceramic cover... So I want to polish with MG UC, can I do that? It will not interfere with the adhesion of the ceramics?
There is no reason you cannot use Ultimate Compound to remove defects in the paint before applying a ceramic coating. That being said you will still need to follow the coating manufacturers recommendations for prep before applying their coating.

Greetings from Egypt, I just ordered ultimate compound , ultimate polish and mirror glaze 26 , it took 23 days to arrive from USA , pretty much enthusiastic to detail my Nissan versa , my question is, what is the recommended time between each stage of the whole process? Thanks
You do not need to wait between steps. When finished with a step just proceed to the next.
@@meguiars thank you very much
I came to this video because I'm doing my Nissan Versa! I hope it worked out well for you, I love this car.
Hi, I first polished with the Ultimate Compound, then polished with Meguiar's Polish. Before I go on with the Ultimate Synthetic wax, do I need to wipe down the car with IPA/degreaser/wax remover to clean the polish residual? Thanks!
No, that is typically not necessary before applying a wax.
do you have to rinse in between steps or just towel wipe the compound, then polish, then add the wax?
Typically there is no need to rewash/re-rinse. Just wipe the product off and proceed to the next step. 👍
Another question: after I compound do I need to clean that area with m122 before I polish or is just a wipe down with a microfiber fine? I know I need to spray the surface after I polish before a sealant.
You typically do not need to use a surface prep between steps just wipe off throughly and proceed to the next step.
So after i did all the steps in this video, can i still pressure wash my car ? Will it scrape my wax sooner ? Do i need to wash it differently from a regular wash because i waxed it ?
Assume you mean the next time there is a need to wash the car? Yes, you can continue to wash with a good ph balanced car wash and a pressure washer.
@meguiars I have two small very minor bird dropping stains. I don't believe they're etched. They appear to be two minor dull spots, which are only noticable in certain angles in light. Can I get away with using just the polish/ wax. Or do you guys have another product that may work better?

However on the Polish Liquid it says to not use on PLASTIC which is what the fairings of the bike are... Any direction? Thanks, love your products!
The warnings are related to wax residue that can be difficult to wipe off of rubber and textured non-painted plastics. If the plastic is painted that is not a concern.
@@meguiars Using an Rubber Eraser gets any white polish or was marks off plastic trim.... It's a fantastic tip I got from a detailer. Works like magic
After we do all three steps, do we then apply the Fast Finish spray can wax or is that not necessary?
Fast Finish is a spray on sealant designed to protection your paint but so is the wax. Although not harmful in any way it is certainly not mandatory to use two different products (waxes/sealants) for protection.
Can i use a microfiber applicator for the compund?
A foam applicator pad really is best. It is more effective and less likely to leave fine scratches or hazing than many microfiber applicators.
Hello! I want to wax my car with Meguiar's Gold Class Clear Coat Paste Wax. My paint looks very decent. Do i really need to clay it before waxing? I don't want to add new tiny scratches to the paint. Thanks!

It has a ton of foundational information that will help you understand the full process better... s.3m.com/qdsqjr
@@meguiars great, thank you very much!
How often should I do this 3 steps on my car paint?
How often you need to clay or compound is related to the condition of the paint at any given point and the environmental attacks the paint faces in your particular situation. You only clay when you have bonded contaminants stuck to the paint. You only compound when you have defects (scratches, swirl marks, water spots, oxidation, etc.) in the paint It is also relative to how well you maintain the paint between waxing. If you maintain the car well you will likely not have to do all 3 steps every time you detail/wax your car. And as it relates to how long a wax will last... How long any protection/wax lasts is highly variable and depends on a number of factors related to the condition of the paint, previous prep, and the environmental elements the vehicle is exposed to. In very general terms we recommend the average person wax their vehicle 3-4 times per year and often at least once a year will include the full process. Hope that helps!
@@meguiars Thank you very much... That helped me a lot. Have a nice day.
I just finished doing this to my s2k, it took me 13 hrs! Btw how long will it last? Like when will I have to this again? (I'm in LA and the car is garaged everyday, except from m-f 10 am to 5pm)
Any defects should be permanently removed. Of course whatever caused them in the first place could happen again at some point. As far as the protection we still recommend you wax at least 3-4 times per year for a daily driver.
How many months to re-apply the compound and polish.? thx 😊
That depends entirely on the condition of the paint and your desires for it. Compound is only used when you have defects in the paint you want to remove.
After all these steps, what would the process look like for the next wash? Say it rains and the car has water spots 2 weeks after you followed this process and waxed. Would I need to spray/wash/rinse and then wax again? Or would spray/wash/rinse be enough?
Entirely depends on how bad/stubborn the water spots are. Hopefully just using a spray detailer or washing does the trick but any time water has a chance to sit on the surface for a long period of time, especially if baked in the sun, you have a chance for more serious water spotting.
I already have meguiars ultimate compound and meguiars ultimate polish..after i finish by using this product, can i use meguairs ultimate quick wax?
Yes
Just bought my first car (used tho). Planning to make it shine. Afraid tht I messed up. And now im here 🤣
Which product do I use first for swirled and oxidated aftermarket paint? You aren’t supposed to compound an entire vehicle are you? It’s only for spot correction and Polish is for doing what I need prior to wax right?
We cannot speak for the other steps possibly required without knowing all the details surrounding the current condition of the paint as well as what exactly it is you are hoping to do for it. That being said to remove oxidation and swirl marks will require the use of an effective/safe compound like our Ultimate Compound. Although in some cases it may not be necessary to apply to the entirety of the vehicle most of the time that is exactly what you should do and is not something you should have any concern doing.
My clear coat on my car is coming off, any suggestions how to repair/prevent further damage? Thanks
Unfortunately the only fix for failed clear coat is repainting.
Do i need an orbital polisher to do all this or can i get similar results by hand?
You can get similar results by hand. It just takes longer.
It really depends on the condition of your paint and how hard or soft it is. A good DA machine is going to achieve better results and in some cases be necessary to adequately remove defects. If you are simply spreading wax either method is fine but of course the machine might help you spread it more evenly and will certainly save time and energy.
I have very very light swirls. Mostly from hand drying even with a drying aid. Don't have access to outside electricity right now. Going to painfully polish the car by hand. Do I need to up the cut since I'm not using a machine? I would use a polish with a buffer for this condition paint. Since my hands aren't as effective, Do I need to up the cut? Meaning compound instead of Polish? Or can I still remove the light swirls with a Polish? Thanks
That is entirely dependent on how deep the scratches are but also how hard your paint is. You will not be able to figure that out without trying a product. Many times swirl/towel marks are more stubborn than you might suspect so the need for a good compound like our Ultimate Compound might be necessary. Keep in mind it is very much safe and easy to use so there really is no down side if you do need to use a mild but effective compound like our Ultimate Compound. Hope that helps!
How long can the Ultimate Liquid Wax last if I use a pressure washer to wash my car every weekend? The pressure washer is a 2300 PSI 1.48 gpm electric Sun Joe on 40 degree fan tip.
How long any wax last is highly variable and depends on the specific vehicle and the environment it is in. That being said with a typical daily driver we recommend you wax at least 3-4 times per year.
Can Meguiar's Ultimate Compound be used if vehicle was washed with Ultimate Wash and Wax? Also, how long should one wait after using Ultimate Liquid Wax before attempting to use Ultimate Compound in an area where there are scratches/swirls?
Yes, you can use Ultimate Compound after washing with Ultimate Wash & Wax. Ideally you would compound before waxing but if you already have Ultimate Wax on the surface you can certainly still use the compound as it will strip the wax as you work.
@@meguiars Thank you so much for your prompt and concise reply.

I bought the Meguiar’s Compound/Polish/Wax kit with applicators and towels. My 1990 miata has heavily oxidized paint that is rough to the touch but some parts of the car have a nice shine and I want all of the panels to be that way. Do I need to get a clay bar and do that too?
It is far better to do it if you want to do any compounding/polishing. if not, no clay needed. If it's a fresh new car, just clean it then coat/wax it. imo
Clay is designed specifically to remove contaminants that are bonded to the surface. If you have bonded contaminants stuck to your paint yes, it would make sense to clay first before proceeding to compound, polish, and wax. Here is a great video that discusses what clay and compound are and when to use each. s.3m.com/x3tra0
Can i use a 100% Cotton cloth instead of a foam applicator pad?
In some cases you could get away with this but most of the time it is going to be safer and more effective to use foam applicator pads to apply product. The foam will help compound work better and many terry cloth towels greatly increase your chance of creating swirl/towel marks. For removal a high quality microfiber towel is always better on paint.
I have a very small amount of swirl marks and I want to ceramic coat my car since it is new will ultimate polish and wax take care of the swirl marks by hand and after clay baring the paint would I be ready for a ceramic coating.
Yes, you would want to remove the swirl marks before applying a coating. The Ultimate Polish is extremely mild but may remove light swirl marks. You also might need something more effective like our Ultimate Compound. Wax, unless it's a cleaner wax is not going to remove swirl marks and you would not want to wax if you are just going to put a ceramic coating on the vehicle. You should then follow the proper prep instructions provided by the manufacturer of the coating you are applying.
It would have been great to see the results before and after so I know if it’s worth the work vs just taking it to a Detailer…

If you have a fat checkbook, hey,....
How I know that such area enough to buffed when compunding? Any guide for it?
Not sure we understand the question entirely. You are looking for the defects to be removed. If they are not removed you may want to try a couple more applications. If it is still not working after that you may need to figure out a more aggressive/effective approach.
@@meguiars thanks for your answer, that's what I needed, very helpful; after such defect were removed then I go to polishing it.

I have a car just 1-month-old. It has swirl marks all over the paint. Can I use the compound? How often we should use the compound, Monthly/Quarterly/annually? @meguiars
A good compound like our Ultimate Compound is effective but still very safe. On your average paint you could use it time and time again to remove any number of defects in the paint. The choice to use a compound is based on whether or not you have defects in the paint you are hoping to remove.
should we use foam pad or microfiber pad for compounding?
The most common recommendation is to use foam pads as they are a little easier to work with, less aggressive, and still get the job done a majority of the time. If for some reason you know you need to get more aggressive and are willing to spend a little time learning how to use the microfiber system that is an option as well but make sure you take time to fully understand how to use those pads.

If you are asking if you should wet the towel before use, no you should not.

Eric Maeder great question
Meguiar's Yes I meant the scratch X so do I apply it to certain areas on the car or do I apply it to the entire car?
Ultimate Compound is still a little more aggressive and the new version of ScratchX is actually a cleaner/wax so it offers a little protection which the Ultimate Compound does not.
Just curious. Are soft microfiber pads acceptable for applying meguires ultimate polish by hand?
They can be but we certainly cannot vouch for the quality and safety on an unknown pad.
@@meguiars I have the same question, I'm assuming he means the 'Meguiars Even Coat Microfiber Applicator Pads', so not unknown.
do you need like a panel wipe or IPA wipe after the polish before adding wax?
Not typically.
Depends on the carrier in the compound. Water based will really just need a wash down but oil based will need the oils removing before applying anything that you hope to bond to the paint, but for me I'd always use some sort of wipe down product after polishing. Doesn't take long and it's always better to make sure that your results are true corrections rather than any oils hiding things.
Can this technique be used to remove halograms
It very well might but as with any defect hand application has it's limit.
Could I use these ultimate compound, polish and liquid wax’s on a torq orbital buffer or should I do it by hand?
Yes, they can all absolutely be applied by hand, orbital, or DA machine. In fact you will get better results when using a DA machine.
@@meguiars ok sweet thank you very much I will definitely be buying some for my cars 😂
I already have most of the products, with the exception of their microfiber cloths. My 2016 Toyota Tundra SR5 double cab, Barcelona red, STILL looks new, with the exception of rock chips on paint.👍
light pressure plus clean pad will prevent marring the black paint?
There are other factors/variables but yes that is good general advice.
TOPSafetyOrders I applied ultimate wax 3 months ago. Should I wax/compound again before I put ultimate wax this time ?
A compound is used to remove defects in the paint, so the real question is do you have swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etc.? If there are no defect in the paint you would not need to compound.
Should I apply my wax directly after Meguiars Polish or first wipe the car off with IPA?
Yes, typically you can/should just apply the wax right after polishing. In most cases you will not need an IPA wipe down in between.
I just got all 3 and a portable buffer. Do I have to use a different pad when going from compound to polish then to wax or can I use the same one? May be a dumb question but I'm learning here. Please and thank you
Yeah... Different. Can compound using wool pad or yellow pad, then polish using orange pad or blue pad, then wax using black pad or red pad
Yes, you want/need to use 3 different pads. One for each product.
@@persianchris2451 thank you sir!
@@meguiars thank you so much!

I have a 2018 Toyota sedan and I have never waxed my car and have been driving in harsh weather in the desert 5 days a week to and from work , 45 mins each way. The front bumper looks faded and is there any way i can bring the natural color back by using the ultimate car wax ?
It would really benefit you to read through this article on the 5 Steps of Paint Care. It has a lot of foundational information which will help you evaluate your paint and formulate a plan. s.3m.com/xyjxnh
Can i use meguiars wash n wax shampoo to lubricate the clay bar instead of detailer because i have run out
No, we really recommend you stick with one of the recommended detail sprays. Although not likely harmful the wash & wax would not work as well.
Before i wax the car (after ultimate polish)..should i clean the car with alcohol? Do ultimate polish have silicone?
There is typically no reason you need to use and IPA wipedown between steps for the typical detail job. Ultimate Polish is not body shop safe.
@@meguiars thank u very much!!
👍
Can we use these products under direct sunlight?
It is never ideal but often as long as the panel itself is not hot to the touch and/or the weather is not extreme you can get away with this. For application of the compound and polish you want to make sure the product does not dry at all so you may need to work a smaller area and wipe off more quickly.
The ultimate compound says to use microfibre pad. Which one shall I use microfibre or foam pad?
For application of Ultimate Compound by hand we recommend you apply with a foam applicator pad and remove with a good quality microfiber towel. Here is a video that also shows the recommended hand application... s.3m.com/8vb1dv
Is necessary do IPA wipedown after apply ultimate compound?
No, you can typically just proceed to the next step without have to wash or do an IPA wipedown.
@@meguiars hello And after Ultimate polish? Before i wax the car wird Meguiars No16 Paste wax.
Hello meguiars i used ultimate compound on my cars rear spoiler its black color i used a foam pad but as i removed the residue with a microfiber towel there was black color on the yellow towel is this normal or was it removing the paint?
That simply means you do not have a clear coat. Yes, that is what compounds do. They remove a very small amount of paint which then removes the defects in the surface. Most vehicles for a few decades now have been clear coated (clear paint on top) so you just don't see color coming off. Any vehicle with a single-stage paint (only color coat) will do this. Nothing to worry about.
I bought the Gold Class paste wax about almost 2 years ago I’ll say and used it and stored it in my garage. can I still use it or should I buy a new one? Does the paste ever expire or lose its effectiveness? Thanks in advance.
The shelf life is 3-5 years is stored in a temperature-controlled environment but it can certainly last longer. If the consistency of the wax is still the same it should be perfectly fine. 👍
@@meguiars thanks !
Can the pads be reused or do I need new ones each time?
Our foam pads are reusable and can be laundered just like your towels.
@@meguiars could I use the same pads for the entire car or would I need to wash off the liquid before starting a new panel ?
After applying ultimate wax to seal, when can I start with regular waxing again.
Not sure what you mean? Ultimate Wax is a wax it is not necessary to put anything else over it. If for some reason you want to you should wait 24 hours for it to fully cure but again putting another wax on top may not have the benefits you are assuming it might.
I applied ultimate wax 3 months ago. Should I wax/compound again before I put ultimate wax this time ?
A compound is used to remove defects in the paint, so the real question is do you have swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, etc.? If there are no defect in the paint you would not need to compound.
I had recently bought a Meguiar wax paste. May i know how long is the drying phase after wax is applied before performing buffing process?
That can depend on the specific wax you are using. Traditional waxes often you wait until the product dries to a haze and turns chalky before wipe off. Some of the newer synthetic formulations do not dry and can be wiped off almost immediately. Drying time can also vary depending on the weather conditions and how much product was applied.
@@meguiars thanks for your quick replied. I bought the Gold Plus wax.
👍
I hope you gave Chrisfix a shout-out and bonus cause I am buying your products because of his detailing video of his $500 trailblazer
👍
So there's no need to ipa before applying the wax ?
No, not for many people and the average detail. Don't mean "average" in a negative sense. This is just not the same scenario as a professional who might be doing full paint correction and applying a ceramic coating.
