Cadeaux at the Chateau: CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!!
This is the first of our special CHRISTMAS themed gift openings! We'll be opening lots of festive gifts throughout advent so that we all get into the holiday spirit. I hope that it will be a great opportunity for everyone to get inspiration for thoughtful, unusual Christmas gifts, crafts and decorations!

In 'Cadeaux at the Chateau', all of the inhabitants of the Chateau de Lalande gather together to open beautiful gifts that people have sent from all over the world. All of the monetisation from these videos will be donated to a different charity each month. KZhead earnings fluctuate wildly each month, as ad revenue changes throughout the year. Here are the charities that we've donated to so far:
July 2020:
British Heart Foundation UK (in memory of my father) €634
August 2020:
Alzheimer's Research UK (in memory of all of the residents of my parents' nursing homes) €350
September 2020:
Prostate Cancer Foundation (in memory of Selmar's father) €1255
October 2020:
Medecins sans Frontieres (chosen by my mother to support vaccinations in Africa) €942 (equivalent to 426 cholera vaccinations)
I used to show the gifts as part of 'The Chateau Diaries' episodes, but you're all so very generous that we have many gifts, and if we spent the episodes opening them, we wouldn't be able to show you other aspects of chateau life! So, for those of you who enjoy watching presents being opened, and as a way to thank those of you who were kind enough to send them, I've made this new channel. Every week we will film your beautiful gifts whilst enjoying afternoon tea or aperitif together.
It is very important to me that you know that we in no way expect anyone to send us gifts. I would like to go further than that and add that, if doing so will put you in any financial difficulty whatsoever, please, please do not send us anything. Knowing that you join us by watching 'The Chateau Diaries' gives us all an enormous boost. But for those of you who have sent these incredibly thoughtful gifts, I hope that seeing us open them gives you a fraction of the joy that you've given us 💖💖💖

Ahh I wish I'd sent you more of the blue and white pinecones! I have the white ones on my own tree this year, normally I have made so many that by the time Christmas arrives, I get sick of seeing them! But this year I'm enjoying them in my own home and now I'm so happy to see them be enjoyed at la lande! Love to you all! Leah xxx

I do really enjoy these "fun, feel good" gift openings.....and showing. Also love Steph's attention to the small little things, i.e. painted holly on the wrapping, etc. saying she knows just the right place where specific gifts can go, etc. Even the worse gifts Steph has the class to make the gift giver feel like they gave her a million dollars. :-)
There is really no such thing as "worse" gifts. Everything has its purpose, it's just a question to find out what and where.

Just an idea! Get a branch from your woods around the chateau and make a display of just the knitted ornaments making a dedicated display! I think that would be quite beautiful!
Diesel snoring in front of a fireplace makes this Unwrapping really feel like a warm and cozy christmas evening - just love this cute little fella 😂❤️❤️❤️ and the gifts were really beautiful and lovely. So many wonderful and thoughtful people out there. And you can really see how happy you are about everyone of it. The advent calenders are just breathtaking. That must have been a lot of work, just WOW. Such generous gifts. ❤️
My family had a tradition of buying a live tree for Christmas, then planting it outside in the yard. You can put the live tree in a big terracotta pot while it is inside. Eventually we were full but the chateau has plenty of room to keep some memories!

I had to chuckle at Diesel snoring. My old pupper died last year and it was so endearing to me to listen to his soft sometimes loud snoring. I always found it comforting. Wow! Lots of great gifts and love the handmade items. Stephanie I have been meaning to mention I love your hair color and style. The “honey” color is perfect on you and I love how your hair frames your face. Diesel is adorable as usual and you all look so cozy with the fire in the fireplace. I was laughing when you broke out the marshmallows. Every August my family camps with dear friends and each night we roast marshmallows and make “s’mores.” (I don’t know if you have heard of them or even make them in France). I like mine burned but my husband likes his toasted. When your marshmallow is done you take a graham cracker, put a piece of chocolate on it, put the marshmallow on, and then top it off with another graham cracker. They are sooooo good! Thanks for sharing another great video!

I did the very same thing and used blue + white chinoiserie napkins too. I was very pleased with my project. And use gold leaf on the stems. It is a very easy to do. And since I decorate my home with the blue + white chinoiserie style they really look great.

The wildly colorful sweaters (aka jumpers). The stunning stockings. The charming tea towels, sweet treats & much more. Those four beautiful Dutch Christmas blue & white plates. The design on Stephanie's "birth plate" 1975 is quite fitting for her. Nice also for Selma' s 1968 BD year & Philip's mums BD year 1963(?). That pair of Spode inspired pumpkins alone are the loveliest. They will be darling displayed under a glass cloche in the kitchen year round too.🎁
My sister and I were talking about how different Christmas celebrations would be this year. We are only allowed to gather in groups of 5 people maximum at present so our usual family gathering is impossible. When I see all of the joy and decorations and feel the peace and love that comes from within our hearts I know that we will still find a meaningful way to feel the Christmas spirit. Much love to you all and I can't wait for the advent festivities to begin.

I can hear Deisel snoring too funny!
The wax wraps are very popular in Australia. I purchased my first set in Melbourne about 5 years ago. After that initial purchase I made my own. They are very easy to make. You cut a piece of 100% cotton. Lay it on the ironing board over the top of a bigger piece of baking paper. Get a grater and grate some beeswax from a block of beeswax or you can use beeswax pellets. Sprinkle a little bit on the cloth. Then place another piece of baking paper on top of this. So you have a sandwich effect with the cotton and beeswax as the filing. Get a hot iron and just start ironing a patch at a time. The iron melts the wax into the cloth. Make sure you do a little bit at a time or you can have melted beeswax going everywhere! Lift the paper off and sprinkle some more beeswax on the next section, put the paper back on, iron and repeat the process. I use ours for wrapping blocks of cheese as well as my sandwiches. I also have put elastic on the outside of other ones that I have cut in a round shape so they can go over a bowl. You just clean them with a little bit of soap and clean water brushing with a piece of soft cloth. When the beeswax wears off over time, you can just redo them. Don't worry if they are stiff to start off with, they get softer the more you use them. There are plenty of how to clips on youtube if this doesn't make sense. Blessings to you all and cannot wait to start the advent adventure with the crew (just realised that advent fits perfectly into adventure).

The duck and goose card is from Wrendale Designs. They have the most lovely animal cards and gifts. I just love them. Have been able to find them in Canada at Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC.

Did you know Queen Victoria had Myrtle in her wedding bouquet. The Royal Gardener took cuttings from her bouquet of the Myrtle and it grew into a bush. Since that time every royal bride has had a sprig of Myrtle from that bush in her bridal bouquet.

It's a sweet story; said royal bridal myrtle was always sourced from a plant grown at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight (planted by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria.) The tradition of using that particular plant started w/ one of their daughters and continued through the years. The current Queen took a cutting when she married and used a bit to plant another. When the Duchess of Cambridge married Prince William she incorporated myrtle from BOTH plantings. 🤍🤍🤍
