CHRISTMAS DIARIES DAY 10: THE CHATEAU'S NATIVITY SCENE!!!

Selmar and I plan a magnificent nativity scene for the Chateau de Lalande's Chapel of Saint Joseph...
It's that time of year again - CHRISTMAS AT THE CHATEAU has begun! Happy Advent!
Here is the tenth video in our daily Advent Calendar series. Each day will bring a different surprise - but you can expect a mixture of exuberant decorations, seasonal florals, delicious food, gift ideas, musical treats and even a little Christmas carpentry...
***To download this year's Lalande wrapping paper designs, based on my father's medieval paintings, the link to the shop is***:
sellfy.com/chateau-de-lalande...
They are available at €5 per image, or €10 for four colours.
I had hoped to have the papers printed in order to sell them ready-made, but with all of the Covid postal delays that's proved impossible. I had mine printed by Zazzle, and scaled the pattern up online so that I have both regular and large scale versions here for Christmas. You're all welcome to do the same in order to have large rolls made, or to simply print them on your home printers for very small parcels! But please only use them for private (not commercial) use.
To see last year's 2019 Day 10: • THE CHATEAU ADVENT CAL...

  • I love how Stephanie at anytime anyday..can bring a project to Selmar & no matter where he is, he stops looks at that project..with eyes twinking...& you can almost see Idea bubbles above his head...as he rubs his hands together smiling at the project & quickly makes a keen observation of how it must be started. Therefore, Stephanie in full joy & trust leaves him to it asking what he may need, so she can help get it. This is the way all people should work together!!!! As a former nurse of critical pts it's was always vital we get a good "team" to get our pts healthy as possible. Love your "team" Stephanie...Such a joy to watch it all. Your supportive & unique personalities & talents coming together with joy is inspirational. I know what your doing here, doesn't seem as lifesaving as what I or others like me have done, but often a good inspirational program ..movie or music has turned our pts on to life or dying with grace & peace. Thankyou, on behalf of those who can't share or speak. db

    • Yes, the music made my heart swell with emotion...how wonderful to fill the chapel with music again...after sitting quiet for so many years. My 30 year old daughter inherited her grandfather's musical talent (he sang tenor with the Seattle Opera Company and we had many years of extended family caroling at their annual Christmas party; sadly, he died in January at the age of 96). My daughter has sung in choirs since middle school and I am looking forward to sharing this with he - I know it will bless her. I have told her about the Chateau and all of you...I found you through Michael Petherick's Doing it Ourselves (he looks so much like my 34 yr son! - hair and style of dress, too) a couple months ago and this is one of my favorite "feel good" places to visit when COVID life gets to be too much. I work at an elementary school and spend most of my day in small group ZOOM lessons with 2nd - 4th grade children. That connection is so important to all of us! Thank you for "refilling my heart with positivity" so I can return each day and pass that on to them.

  • This whole thing was fabulous, especially the singing at the end. I really got choked up when you were singing Gloria because my Mother became pregnant with me at Christmas time and named me Gloria Joy, She died when I was young, has been gone 50 years but I could almost hear the way she sang the song. And being in church and hearing either of my names and looking over at her smiling and nodding as if yes, that's for you. Thank you for this little bit of beauty in a crazy world.

  • Absolutely beautiful . . on multiple levels. The blending of all LeLanders coming together to create and share something truly magical . . . at a time when the world needs it. Selmars artistic talents, Marie's beautiful florals, everyone's singing and heartfelt affection, and the beautiful blending of Stephanie, Phillip, and Cats voices in the acoustics of the chapel. Mandy captured it perfectly. The recording/editing are just beautiful. Teared up all 3 times I watched it. I could listen to an entire Christmas concert in the chapel. . . Wondering how long it has been since the chapel has been filled with such heavenly music.

I think, adding a little hay or straw on its floor will really make the whole scene warm and come to life. Also, the singing is so serene, you all have wonderful voices. Your videos bring such a joy watching them. Stephanie, you are the heart of Lalande, without your cheerfuly, down to earth personality it would not be the same. And through you, everyone else around you comes to life and complete such a joyous and most entertaining team. Bravo and God's blessings to each and everyone of you. Merry Christmass !!! • Stephanie, I love that you have saved things from the previous owners of Lalande, or things original to the Chateau. It is so special that you try to incorporate them into life there now. So many people take "old" things and throw them away, that's very sad. What a blessing that you have others, like Selmar that has such talent for "salvaging" things to restore or create something so special that can be enjoyed by all the future generations. Love from Arkansas! P.S. Diesal riding in the back was the cutest little thing :))

  • I love this episode immensely .... everything about it! The Crèche, the Lalande family, and Selmar’s creativity. His heart and soul comes through in a very pure way as we watch how he gets inspired by the old creche and then comes up with his own “design”, which is very original and incredibly beautiful. Seeing the crèche in the chapel, and lit up, plus the candles and the figurines is very touching for me. The Lalande family singing. Very warm .... It brings back childhood memories of going to midnight mass, and seeing our parish priest walking in with baby Jesus in his arms, then laying him in the crèche. The choir would be singing ‘Gloria in Excelsius Deo’ ... and the congregation would join in. I was born on Christmas Day and I love it! Thank you, Stephanie, thank you Selmar, Philippe, Nati, Marie, Kat and Mandy. You are all very special people ..... The Crèche will live on at Chateau Lalande for many years to come. I think someone should write the name of the person who inspired its creation ( Stephanie), the person who built it (Selmar) and the names of all present, plus the words: ‘Noel 2020’. These are my thoughts .... Sending warmest greetings to you All. 🙏🙏😍

Whenever I see some lovely antique piece, I always wonder what the creator was like, because there’s often so much intricate, interesting, superfluous beauty in it.
