Tashirojima Island is a small island located in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Since ancient times, cats have been taken care of, and it is called "Cat Island" because there are more cats than residents on the island. You can meet a lot of cats while walking. Perhaps because they were raised with the love of many people, they are very friendly and kind. "The coexistence of humans and cats" is the culture of Tashirojima.   • Oh! I wish I can visit that island one day ,the cats are absolutely gorgeous. I adore the locals feeding them. I'm a cats lover too I used to have 9 cats but only 5 left the 4 died of old age. I treat my cats as they my children and they treat me also unconditional love.Thank you for those people having good heart to look after animals ,small or big.

    • I am sorry for you loss. I had 5 at one time and then more separately but about 5 have died over the past 6-7 years. I adopted 2 more and 1 older 1 so we have 3. I miss my old cats too. Death is so sad.Take care. I asked them how to donate to the island for their food. thanks. 🥰

    • @@meyague No, I'm sorry, but that's not natural. There are too many animals in one place and they hardly have any natural enemies. Maybe fake (industrial) food? The best food for a cat is a mouse, it contains all the nutrients a cat needs, but I'm not sure there are enough mice there anymore.

  • I love Tashirojima. I've been there twice and it has changed a lot over the past decade. I recommend arriving at Nitoda port and then walking across the island to Odomori port, but sometimes in windy weather the ferry doesn't stop at Odomori so please check. When I visited Odomori the first time, one of the residents there took me to their home where they fed some of the neighbourhood cats and we got to feed them too, which was a great experience. Ishinomaki is also a really nice city too. The Kikuchi Ryokan is where I stay and I recommend it.

  • Lovely island! My family and neighbors have been feeding and taking care of feral cats for decades. Our oldest unspayed female cat lived to 26 years old. We put small shelter houses in our big yard for the feral cats and every neighbor do the same. Also I let the female cats sleep inside my house when they wanted. There are 5 female feral cats living in my big yard. The oldest is 14 years old and the youngest is 7 years old. We put natural herbal dewormer in their wet food and colloidal silver in their water to prevent infections. The female cats didn't get pregnant in years because they go on heat cycle only 4 times a year and the shy male feral cats who stay in the neighbor yard are not interested in mating with them during the heat cycle (yes sometimes the female cat reject the male cat). Also female cats as they age, their litters tend to become smaller (1-2 kittens instead of 3) and less frequent. We never had cat overpopulation issues although no one spay the female cats in our neighborhood. I currently keep the 14 years old unspayed feral cat strictly indoor because I like her so much. I don't understand why western push spaying like crazy for all animals they see outside. If all the feral cats are spayed, there will be no feral cats anymore when the current cats die! We keep feral cats healthy and happy the natural way and never had cat overpopulation issues in my neighborhood!
