Woll has been playing great for roughly 90% of the time, Sammy has also. All goalies go thru rough spells. Not just a few goalies. All of them do.

Washington gave up on him too and look how he played for us last year. All goalies go thru this. Woll is playing 'lights out' right now and I'm happy for him. You also can't sit Sammy for too long because you will destroy his confidence completely.

Woll deserved the shutout. His entire team abandoned him on the PK during the Ovie easy tap-in and floated collectively to the corner like mindless peons. Time to run with #60 for awhile and see if he can give them a higher measure of consistency over Samsonov. Either way, Maple Leafs have two superb goaltenders and that bodes well for their season.

@@jeffreycairns767 The hockey guy spoke of goalies translating from the AHL to the NHL and said some stats show that some excelled in the AHL but not so well in the NHL and some excelled in the NHL but not so well in the AHL. Could also be that Woll's style of play is a better match with the defensive structure of the Leafs or even the goalie coach.
The Hockey Guy video on that was from yesterday called NHL Rescinds Ban, Savard Out Indefinitely, Hischier set to Return. When he's speaking about Shepard starting for the Caps.
@practicalguy973 It's possible. If you look at his AHL save%, it's improved alot over the past few years but his 1 playoff game was horrible. I hope he makes it but I've had high hopes in the past and none have worked out in Toronto.

If it wasn't for 2 lockouts and a Covid 19 shortened season Ovie would've broken The Great One's goal scoring record by now. Wayne Gretzky got lucky he played in an era where there were no lockouts and no shortened season. External factors outside of Ovechkin control will prevent him from setting the all time goal scoring record.
Lucky? Look at his point totals too. Ovi may end up with more goals but he's nowhere near Gretzky in points. Gretzky will always be the greatest of all time. Nobody will come close to his point total.

It's very early in the season but I feel like a broken record already. Caps have some issues they need to tend to but the number one problem is porous, inconsistent goalies. One amazing game is not enough every 3-4 games, not by a long shot. They need an Andre Fleury and fast.

@uhoh6334 I agree that you go with the hot goalie, but he only has 14 total NHL games played. In the end, it's not up to the fans, it's up to the coach. At the moment Woll is playing better but that doesn't mean he's the better goalie. In his role with the Marlies, his stats are getting better by the year but the 1 playoff game he played this year, he allowed 7 goals in. If you over work a goalie, he'll be useless when you need him.
Woll played amazing but Marner and Matthews should not have puck watched that at their paygrade.
