As a fold 3 owner until last week, the fold 5 is noticeably different. The screen is brighter, the phone is slimmer in the hand and it feels smoother to operate.
Agreed, tons of other upgrades too on the Fold 5 including the Snapdragon Gen 2 chip and beefed up ram similar to the S23 Ultra
Yes definitely worth it from 3 to 5 but maybe not 4 to 5. Even though its only about 20g lighter it feels a lot more being slimmer in the hand.
It's not worth it from 3 to 5 yall are trippen. It'll be worth it when we get flagship camera specs. Yall spent all that money and my 3 literally has the same camera as yalls 5. Lol
@@Jon.Edgar.Martin your fold 3 does not have the same camera as the fold 5. The fold 4 and and 5 have the same camera. I've owned the fold 3, 4, and now 5. There is a big diff between the fold 3 and 5, the 3s battery life also is trash, and the inner screen is way less durable, mine broke after the screen protector started bubbling 6 months into its life, and the chip sucks now. Upgrading from a 3 to a 5 is not dumb at all.
Fold4 and Fold5 are almost identical apart from the spacing when closed. I do wish they found space for the pen inside of the phone. I usually don't have protective cases on my phones, but on this one I have to since otherwise I have no place to keep my pen.
The Z fold 5 has survived the Jerry's durability test, quite impressive honestly. And that hinge test was insane. I think Samsung has found a way to really improve their craft. Still, a bit disappointed that Samsung decided to follow Apple footstep and move away from expandable memory, that solid grey block could easily be a SD card slot
It was very strange to see such a long SIM card tray in this phone, since the last 2 generations didn't have that, and were shorter. So weird. The only guess I have is that Samsung might have a 2 SIM card versions in some markets, but with eSIM, I didn't think it was still common.
@@spacemsh I have 2 sim fold5. In our market (EU) I didn't even have an option for one sim phone.

I really wish Zack would add a drop test to the durability test as there’s no impact testing at all and that’s one of the major things I worry about. Also a mega thumb test in the soft plastic screen just to see if it permanently warps after really digging your fingers in. Otherwise I do love the videos, thanks Zack

Between Zack's durability test, and another channel's live stream of real people opening and closing a Flip 5 more than 400,000 times before the screen failed, I think it is fair to say that Samsung has got this folding thing figured out.
Lmao they did it again??? They did it for the flip 3 I believe, all voluntary ppl with hours long livestream, mad lads
meanwhile i'm on my third z fold 5 because the last two have catastrophically broke in the crease. i beg to differ. they may be stronger but quality assurance and consistency still has a lightyear to go. and their customer service is a whole different level of ridiculousness at how hard they try to fight warranty returns on a clearly defective product saying i'ts my fault when i barely even got to touch the damn things
@@christianrobloxserver7282 lmao why do you still buy these faulty phones then? not only is a regular Samsung phone+galaxy tab cheaper, its also a whole lot better and much more durable.

Bruh its like Samsung is insulting us with that solid grey chunk where an SD card could've easily been placed. 🙄
When I ejected the sim tray from my Fold 5 as I went to insert my sim, I definitely felt slightly offended that they didn't turn it into an SD card slot. But they gave me 2x as much UFS 4.0 storage so I won't complain too much, I guess....?

It's amazing to me how far samsung has come with regards to durability from the Z Fold 1 to the Z Fold 5. As someone who had the Z Fold 4 (traded it back in because I realized folding phones really weren't for me), I appreciated that the phone always felt just as sturdy open as it did closed. This 5th generation seems to be an incremental upgrade. It's basically a Z Fold 4S. Something to upgrade if you have a Fold 3 or earlier, but an upgrade that you can skip if you have the Fold 4.
Oh my gosh, the alliteration in the intro is music to the ears. Loved every second of it 👏👏👏

His name isn't Jerry FUKING LMAO! I always crack up when people refer to him as Jerry.
Thanks for this! I have a fold 5 and was weirdly nervous sbout the hinge and inner screen and dust, despite having had a flip 4 with no issues. Now I truly understand that as long as I am sensible and avoid immolation, I should be fine.
The pain I get watching these durability test videos is unimaginable😢
As an owner of both the 3 and now the 5, the biggest difference is the battery life. The 5 lasts so much longer than my 3 ever did even when it was brand new.
I get about 4 hrs SOT on my ZF3. Not a problem when you work from home, but not great.
Yeah same here with my ZF3. I don't mind recharging it 2 times a day when I'm home, but I would definitely make use of a long lasting battery life for sure. Not for that price tag tho
Same, this is exactly why I bought my 5. I couldn't go for 1-2 hours before my 3 started getting low battery where I felt I had to plug it in. I love the 5, also another thing a lot of people don't talk about is the outer screen size. The 3 is practically unusable, the 5 display is like half an cm wider, it's much easier to use
I get more than double the screen on time with the 5 than I did the 3. Background battery drain seems to be a huge improvement too. I didn't realize how bad fold 3 truly was until I got home on day two with the 5 and thought my phone would be almost dead because I hadn't charged it all day. It was at 70%
How do you compare the battery with an old phone and a new phone? what fools
It's always fun watching these for the Z Folds! I've had Folds 1, 2, and 3 until my Z Fold5 came in on Monday. Between 4 and 5 there's not a whole lot different besides the 5 folding flat, but between 3 and 5 the cover screen being shorter and wider has been amazing and I've been using the cover screen a lot more on average the past two days than I did with my 3. Not to mention I don't have to worry about wallpapers that don't look good narrow as much anymore. So while aesthetically it's a small change, for a user of four years now it's a very welcome one! 😊
I agree, I just got my Fold 5 and was rocking the Fold 3 and they feel like different phones to me. Form factor may be similar but there are definitly incremental upgrades that make the Fold 5 better in every capacity. Fold 3 was a great phone, the Fold 5 is even better and fine-tuned IMO.
I got the fold 5. So far I am loving it and after watching this realize I should calm down a little. I was so afraid at first I would break it. I still might but at least I feel a little better seeing this durability test. This is my first foldable.
You're gonna love it, just make sure you have insurance on it and you should be fine. I have Fold 3 been using it since launch and it still working strong no broken display just cracked my small outer display because I dropped it in a pool couple months back. My USB C port kinda fried but surprisingly the actual displays still work perfectly no dead pixels. The main big display work perfectly and I reckon if I never dropped it in pool my phone would have lasted easily like 2 or 3 years more. Just sucks my charger port damaged so I'll be upgrading Fold 5 this year. I would get it repaired but Samsung quoted me $650 to repair everything annoyingly so yeah sucks it happened when my insurance ran out lol 😅
@@bokie2461wdym insurance on it? Like an actual insurance like ypu have on a car? Isnt it too expensive? The phone is expensive enough already

She has a case like the one you showed, it feels very protected with it, but I think the hinge protector should be in the other half, since when yo try to use de selfie mode with the main cameras, that protector covers part of the front screen.

The "Permanent" screen protector CAN be removed, but you need to be careful. Basically once it starts getting peely after a year or so, you can very carefully pull it off and either go without or get a new one. There are aftermarket ones that seem to be decent, but it should be noted that Samsung has made it free or fairly cheap to get a new one, like $20 I think, but walk-in locations are limited and sending your phone in for one is very inconvenient. When in doubt, don't mess with it and have it fixed by someone who knows what they're doing.
I know this is an 8 month old comment but I'm in this boat, considering just peeling the damn thing off now that I have a bubble all the way up the middle

I think with folding phones you should add a bend test after rotating 90 degrees too, Zack - that would target different pressure points and be similar to the bend test on non-folding phones :)
Like trying to tear the phone like a paper?
should be even stronger because the hinge is essentially a solid block of metal

I always watch these videos when getting a new phone. Just bought mine although i did it through Verizon. Also, this is coming from someone who has had an iPhone is the 4S came out. I’m ready to leave Apple behind.😂
"If you want a Fold 5, just go buy Fold 3" Cheers Zack. I have one and you may have just saved me a small fortune. As brilliant as the Fold series are, it's a shame that there are no significant changes each year. Especially where the folding screen is concerened.
What bif advance would you like to see? It's a screen...
And a very good screen it is too. The tech is still quite new though, and there have been advancements in the way they are built and supported since the Fold1. But, the screen protector on mine has come loose along the seam and for me that's a deal breaker. Not just about the screen though. The camera's could be better, the lack of expandable memory shouldn't be a thing in so flagship and expensive a device, and I hate carrying my S-Pen separately as opposed to internally a la the Note series. Also, it's just my opinion, but I wish it was slightly wider. That would give a more natural aspect ratio on the external screen as well as a slightly bigger internal screen. I've simply not seen enough innovation between the Folds since the 3 to make me want to upgrade. I was hoping for something from the 5, but I'm disappointed. May go back to a glass rectangle at this rate.
@gemazarusgaming1549 I had the pre-installed screen protector on my Fold 3 come loose in about a year or so. Replaced it with a different one off Amazon and good as new. I got one of those thicc cases that holds the S Pen in the hinge guard, so it's better than nothing. From what I can see, nothing major for me to switch up to the Fold 5 like you said. Mine works perfectly for what I need and still runs like I just got it.

After the Fold 2 (which was tough enough to last 2.5 years without issues) the 5 feels much stronger. Even if the specs are slowly changing, the overall design improves a lot. Also, don1t get a Fold 3, get a 4 instead if you don't want a 5. It still has 3 A3droind versions and 4 years security updates left plus it has more efficient HW (the Sanpdragon 888 was a terrible SoC).
This video is painful to watch....but it does actually show how much better they are getting. Durability was always my fear.
I bought one of these this week to replace my aging S8+ (still works, just battery life isn't there anymore). Anyway, glad to see that aside from the inner screen needing some babying, which I figured was the case, that it can take some punishment.
I got lost even before the intro screen showed up... I have to rewatch. Why did you do this Jerry?
"if you want a Fold 5, go buy a Fold 3" brutal!
I'm legitimately shocked! The ZFold 5 is surprisingly durable!! If the Pixel Fold I ordered doesn't function too well, I might take a much closer look at the ZFold 5. The only thing stopping me is that damned slim cover screen... I want a ZFold 6 that has the shape of the Pixel Fold, TBFH...
Looking forward for the flip 5 test
Excellent video! My daughter dropped my Z Fold 3 which destroyed the internal screen. I was just 2-months shy of having the 3 for two years and the insurance did not have any 3's/4's available to replace it with. Thus I ended up with a Fold 5.
I'd say go get a fold 4. The upgrades from 3 to 4 were pretty descent with the increased cover screen, decreased hinge, and better processors and underscreen cam.

It's a very repairable phone, the back unclips to remove the battery, and for that reason alone I don't believe its IP67 rating for being waterproof. However, it's a fantastic phone, extremely repairable, just needs an expert such as yourself to test it! All the best.
Well i have a fold 3, guess i followed your advise. I upgrade if the cameras get significantly better. Btw. It would be nice to remove the standard screenprotector after the scratch test so we can see the real damage.
There are actually quite a bit of visual differences between the Fold 3 and Fold 5, but they're not very easy to spot if you're just glancing at them. The Fold 4 and 5 are very similar though (I have the 4), and apart from the the "zero gap" on the Fold 5, there's no reason to get the 5 instead of the 4.
I'm in the same situation. I fell in love with Fold 4, I don't think I could never use a non flexible phone anymore. But upgrade is definitely not worth it rn, if they upgrade the cameras and the charging speed I'm upgrading instantly in the next generation because I think these are the main flaws compared to flagships.
This isn't true (IYO) The extended brightness feature is worth the upgrade alone.
@johnbennicelli708 dude, why is everyone so pissed about samsung brightness? In my experience, it's excellent. Never had issues with brightness even at summer on the beach. I almost always have turn on reading mode and extra low because it blinds me.
@pablopj broaden your mind. If you can't possibly fathom why someone would want more NITS on a AV media consumption device how unimaginative are you really?
@@johnbennicelli708 Be a bit realistic, who would want to spend 1800 bucks to upgrade from the Fold 4 to the 5 by a few nits if the Fold 4's brightness is more than enough to be able to use the phone in direct summer sunlight?
"Just go buy a fold 3" exactly what I've been saying lol. Half the price, same phone I already have :) if it breaks, I'll just buy another 3, it's held up very well these lady 2 years though!
IMO the fold 4 front-screen format is more ergonomic, those extra 4-5MM on the side change the experience.
Lol no, fold 4 had better cameras, much better chipset and more ergonomic design along with a properly hidden under display camera. Fold 5 is the only minor improvement.
You guys are absolutely right about the improvements. It's simply not worth the $2k annual or even biannual upgrade even with the half off trade in promotions. To me.. I'll add that it's a personal take and others may feel differently :)
Ayeeee 🔥 let's go fold 5 babyyy already got mine and the watch 6 classic 👌🏾 u should test the watch!!!
I'm excited to think about how good these will be when I'm ready to upgrade from my S22 Ultra.
From what I've seen of this phone. It really is mostly the same as last year and the year before. There's some minor improvements beyond just the better hinge. Brighter clearer inner display in sunlight and improved battery life seem to be the most notable improvements. If you don't have a foldable (or you have a Z Fold 1 or 2) and have the money to spare go for this one. If you have a Z Fold 3 or 4 and you're happy with it stick with that for now.
I wish they had that for my Fold 3... On another note I think you should add a "freeze test" for folding phones...that's when mine bit the bullet...it was cold out folded my phone and CRACK right down the middle

I recently realized that you didn't do a durability test on the note 20 (not ultra), and it would've been interesting to see how that one would have held up compared to other phones since it has a plastic back, and people dont seem quite sure on whether the frame was steel or alumimium. @@galaxygalaxy4429 i used the Note 10 + for 2yrs. Went to Fold. Lucky it broke and i gave the replacement to my son and got the S23 Ultra. I personally find the Note style the most practical, stylus built in, slim, full screen etc. I found the outer screen of the Fold too narrow, hard to write measages etc. And i couldnt walk around with it unfolded all the time. Thats me...
Fold 3 since launch still rocking strong but barely. I cracked outter display by accident when dropped it in a pool. Surprisingly no liquid damage on the screens so they work flawlessly just my USB C port barely works because liquid damage. So I hope it can last me a bit longer till I can afford the Fold 5 or Fold 6. Would have kept this phone wayy longer if never dropped it annoyingly 😪
So this video convinced me to get the z fold 5, after waiting years for the perfect folding phone to start with since durability is a major factor in the line of work I am in. Now, after some time with the fold 5, I have noticed many things. 1. The many complaints 2. Everyone discrediting the durability 3. Bashing camera quality, etc. However, if you like, I was wondering if it's worth it, I can definitely put that thought to ease. The answer is absolutely. The z fold is super durable, I am an air field electrician, so my pockest get filled with dirt and grime often, which has affected the phone's henge none. Moister that my phone has been subjected to has had no effect on the inner screen, ports, or speakers. It has been scratched on the metal frame and henge from a poor designed case allowing debris to get caught between the case and phone, which will be replaced with a dbrand case, but other than tiny scratches, no issues so far and my lifestyle is brutal on phones. The complaints about the thin front screen and camera quality aren't an issue either. I bought the phone, not for photo shoots and looking at aliens on the moon. Rather, I bought it for the purpose of multitasking, watching shows, gaming, and videos pretty much wanting the option of having a small tablet and phone together at the same time without the separation of using two seperate devices. The front screen is perfect for quick access or scrolling on social media, while the inner display is for everything else. The camera still takes beautiful pictures with amazing colors, quality, and contrast. The same goes for the video quality. If you want an army swiss knife for a phone, that is durable enough for everyday life, even for the more rugged lifestyle. Get this phone, you won't regret it. My only complaint is the misinformation people have let on about the quantity of this phone in other videos and reviews I have watched. If it wasn't for the Jerryrigeverything channel and the quality of videos you make. I wouldn't have the confidence in the product I end up buying, which has led me to enjoying my decisions rather than regretting them.
i currently have the 4, and have had it for about 6 months so far, i highly recommend a folding samsung device, super fast, super snappy, super durable, its been caseless for a month just because i like to appreciate how welll its built, its been around concrete dust and water quite often, and it has zero issues, and only 1 small scratch on the inner display that i keep losing the place of all the time, and battery life is better than expected, i rock my settings in power user mode (everything that drains the battery the fastest is turned ON at all times)
it has fingerprint sensor to bring notifications down.. missing in the 5 ...
OMG! Love the scripting so far! 0:40

ChatGPT please write me a line praising someone who tests the durability of the device. Also make sure to include a couple of words starting with A to add a little drama: "Zack! My Fold4 screen protector on the inside got a giant air bubble a few months ago that made the screen practically unusable (after almost a year of use) and to "replace" it with my free replacement they would've had to ship my phone for 5+ days and leave me without a phone at all as they don't offer loaner phones. I ended up pulling the inner screen protector off and it was perfectly fine and functions again as it should. As long as you're careful, it shouldn't be needed.
The company's engineers must hold their breath when watching these durability tests
2:47 R.I.P to Amychophobia people. Including me 😢
Amy.....whatever, you're right 😅
Got my fold 5 just a day ago and I am enjoying it a lot
I have the fold 5 and I absolutely love it, recommend it
Got this as my first Fold last week from an S22 Ultra. Happy to see this passes. Samsung has definitely come far with these. Looking forward to the teardown to see the new shock dispersion and hinge. I feel like they're very refined with hardware and software against the competition.
You don't have any gripes? I'm coming from a 22U also and I am already missing the Spen functionality on the outer screen. And I also find myself using the phone unfolded more often. That's not a gripe, I don't think 🤔 lol. Naturally as a girl I have small hands. But I seem to find the buttons just fine. It's kinda like a mini version of a PC mini KB. But yeah anyway my gripe is the Spen and of course my fear of the non dust resistance. I'm afraid simple pocket lint is going to damage it one day. Not to mention the fact I like to frequent the beach.
To me, I don't mind. I like the smaller screen cause it's easy to one hand and with large skinny fingers I don't find typing too hard...people are just picky. It is a new form factor, so it isn't for everyone, but if you're spending this much money on a phone, open it and treat yo self 😅 This is my first Foldable so I thought thr 5th gen was a good starting point (as Jerry proves). Also, it stands out and you'll get a lot of people asking questions 🤷♂️
I think these softer foldable screens require a newer method of scratch test. A finer scale if you will.
Seus Vídeos, são muito top. Parabéns!
Structural engineeering of foldables has came a long way. At this point we would suggest buying foldables if you have that money to burn. Great video always 😄
If you want a Fold 5, go buy a Phantom Fold. Every fold is classic.
For the next gen, you can just reupload the fold 3 durability test and do a new voiceover to call it fold 6
I bet people wouldn’t even notice
Isn't next gen getting a redesign though? Pretty sure it was confirmed a while back. (I know leaks aren't 100% accurate but c'mon)
I love this theme of the complex language of one letter
When will the case for the Fold 5 be available? And will it be available in the UK without paying huge courier costs and import duty?
It's worth mentioning that anyone who works outside and gets dirty absolutely cares about dirt/temperature durability tests. I'd love to know how cold or hot a temperature I can still use my phone at. How a phone handles dirt and sand is also super valuable info.
Its so hurting to see the fold gets scratched and bended this way, it just hurts 😢 But thanks a lot for the cool video and advices you always tell us...
