I’ve worked in Dentistry for close to 20 years….impressions are HARD. So hard in fact that I was SUPER impressed by your first try…you ALMOST had it but yes you were right about what was wrong with the first one. You got a good second one at 5:29 (nice vestibule roll) but , like you said, you wouldn’t want to see plastic. Ideally, You need a larger tray on top so your teeth aren’t close to the sides of the tray. When pouring your mold, especially with those hard catalysts mold, you’d also want to pour a base to make the casts more stable. You first pour the cast, put it on a vibrating surface to get the bubbles out, let it set a bit then pour a base and flip the cast on top of the little puddle base you made so you don’t get the breakage you got around 9:49. Taking impressions, pouring molds and making casts are definitely an art form that take time and patience to master. Dont get frustrated, everyone struggles with these…ESPECIALLY with harder mold materials.

This is why my orthodontist had one singular lady who did all the molds
Dental lab here, it was fascinating watching a novice do the same work. Never would have thought to use a vacuum to get bubbles out instead of vibrating it. The wax up was... interesting to say the least. The finishing job really brought it around though.
I was thinking the same thing- Not a dental person but my mother was in dentistry for 20+ years and yeah impressions were her favorite because once you have things down it feels so good to get right but it was so finicky
As a former dental laboratory technician who has scanned and filled MANY impressions... I can tell you with 100% honesty that we super glued probably about 40% of our stone mockups back together due to breakage. DO NOT FEEL BAD. Anterior teeth (canines, laterals, incisors) specifcally broke off all the time. The dental stone we used as a working model was often a high water content plaster similar to concrete. When we finished working on the models (or if they kept ******* breaking) we would then use a higher quality gypsum based stone that was much stronger to show the dentists a more accurate mockup. Even that would also often break. Teeth dont like being made of stone.

I've been a dental assistant for about 13 years and *maybe* one(?) person has asked about getting a grill in that time, but never got one. It's surprising actually. It's actually kinda nice to see my job is harder than it seems! There are things that could be improved in the process that might make it look better in the end(or even adjusted as they are now, but would still look somewhere between this product and the photo) but it was fun to watch you try!
As a jeweler myself, i'd say Nigel did a VERY thorough job preparing the grills post-cast, but if your wax is good enough, you shouldn't have to hone in the gaps and crowns. I recommend just using a heat gun and gently easing the wax in layer by layer. Also, to further increase the *shiny* you could apply a polishing compound on the dremel buffers (there are some specially made to polish 18k gold too).
As not a jeweler, I was thinking the same thing. It's a lot easier to smooth and work wax than metal.
I've found heat guns are a frickin must with so many projects that need something "warmed up" but many times over
Just a hobbyist here, but I oddly found silver to be easier to work with than wax. I guess it might be because I've got a lot more experience with dremel than with sculpting :p
I was surprised how much he nailed it right up until processing. All that work could have been prevented with a bit of care with wax and getting something other than a dremel
@@insederec Yeah, the fingerprints left in the wax had me wanting to yell 'heat gun' or 'fire' at the screen. Wax is so much easier to smooth than cast metal, do it when it is easy. Another option, used by dentists these days for implants and caps, is to skip the mold process entirely. Scan the teeth with a laser probe, get a 3d model, print the grills in resin, then do "lost resin" casting instead. Very exact results, though the dental laser scanner is not a cheap device...

I really love the idea of nile walking to his lab one day with like $8k in gold and an ounce of silver literally stuffed in his pockets
And then throwing half of it in the trash!
@@dogishappy0I know when I saw that I'm like why you just threw like half the goal away I'll take it off your hands LOL
@jasonx4179no shit, 4k smeckles worth of gold and silver
No, he did not! @jasonx4179
And all that gold dust! I hope he didn't just wipe it away
I love your videos. This one tho, had me in tears. SO funny bro!
“Why am I so bad at this?” The thing you’ve never done before? It’s because you’ve never done it before. And you’re still trying!
I feel like Nile could rock these if he could just shake the fairy curse that keeps him from ever aging past 20
I don't think he will lmao it's called being asian
@@gabrieleterumi1596He's asian? 😲 I never knew that!

@@bunneh2505 i think like half
@@DevynPlaysGamesNow that I think about it, yea he never really looked fully "white" yk caucasian. I think he is half asian. I wish Nigel's parents were on more NileBlue videos lol
These honestly turned out amazing, one day you gotta go to some black tie KZheadr event and pull out the grills.
dang--yessssssssss!!
I thought you said "you gotta go to a black youtuber and pull out their grills"
@@mycario624 Ohohohoho no!
If he doesn't show up to the next OpenSauce decked out in gold, it won't be worth it.
21:15 why does he sound so worried😂
I love your videos, they're really fun and authentic xD dem grillz tho
The cut from “let’s get an unbiased opinion,” to all of his friends laughing at him was just *priceless*
When was that again???😅
To me that was really sad. 😢

@@WeirdBrainGooright it’s always the ones closest that will clown and hate. My buddy has a set and no one in public usually says anything and when they do it’s compliments. He’s never had someone laugh.
Its sad, but it is 41:10
When I saw Nile throwing away the "scrap" gold I thought it was a joke. When I saw the complete disregard with which he treated the gold dust I was not sure anymore
Yup, that's quite sad.. Every gram counts if it costs 60 dollars
Nile red: recovering gold from trach
I had terrible anxiety during and after the part where he's allowing hundreds and hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of gold dust to go bye bye. I have no words. I can't even begin to imagine how wealthy you would have to be to not care about all of the gold dust getting lost...
Begger: "today's going to be the day. I'm going to be rich. I can feel it. This is the bag right here that is going to pro..pe..... HOLY SHIT!! I KNEW IT! I'M RICH! I'M RICH!" NileRed: *throws a stink bomb* Begger: " you can't out stink...m..eww. *gags* *drops gold and runs*
@@zacharylovelady9265 Its like a couple 100 bucks, I dont think he cares about that
Genuinely they look really good
i have a newly found appreciation for those who create grills, way harder than i ever thought it would be!
As a dentist, watching him make this was painful but the results were better than expected!
As an artist this was painful too, he lost me at the second layer of wax.. the whole time I kept thinking "its gonna be so thick" (I'm at the casting scene rn, no idea how it turns out yet)
Bshahahaha, they are really thick.. awwww that's the problem with trying to replicate human characteristics, it's that if it's not done PERFECTLY (or completely stylistically, no in between) it get up that uncanny valley real quick!
@@3llevate Exactly. I feel they might have looked more like his expectations if he didn't make them so thick.
@@3llevateI mean they just kinda look like he just has yellow teeth imo, they also don't appear to fit as tight as something like retainers
@@3llevateyea. And as a jeweller (to be) I cringed when he said how much gold it required (because it was so thick) most grill I see are no more than .5-1oz of gold. Not 5 oz lol. I doubt they’d stay on very easily being so heavy.
This video is how we find out that NileBlue is doing pretty okay in life. Meanwhile NileRed has to try and make his own toothpaste from fluoride in water.
it's an investment in the vid: I'm told with 2M views it should make around $2-15k and it's been just 6 days so far. The gold should have cost around $8.2k, but he can surely reclaim a lot of it
@@charonme The sponsorship already paid for it
And NileGreen still has to distill caffeine with chloroform...😂
the gold costs ~2k for an ounce. I know because I collect bullion and coins.@@charonme Don't worry about it, he will make it back and keep those awesome grills.
No Nile red needs to try to remove fluoride from the water
The last 5 minutes with everybodys reaction was too funny😂
