For years now, I have been too embarrassed to have someone make me my own custom grillz. However, I am tired of living like this and I have realized that my only choice - is to make them myself.
Thanks to my friends for being part of the video!

  • I’ve worked in Dentistry for close to 20 years….impressions are HARD. So hard in fact that I was SUPER impressed by your first try…you ALMOST had it but yes you were right about what was wrong with the first one. You got a good second one at 5:29 (nice vestibule roll) but , like you said, you wouldn’t want to see plastic. Ideally, You need a larger tray on top so your teeth aren’t close to the sides of the tray. When pouring your mold, especially with those hard catalysts mold, you’d also want to pour a base to make the casts more stable. You first pour the cast, put it on a vibrating surface to get the bubbles out, let it set a bit then pour a base and flip the cast on top of the little puddle base you made so you don’t get the breakage you got around 9:49. Taking impressions, pouring molds and making casts are definitely an art form that take time and patience to master. Dont get frustrated, everyone struggles with these…ESPECIALLY with harder mold materials.

  • As a former dental laboratory technician who has scanned and filled MANY impressions... I can tell you with 100% honesty that we super glued probably about 40% of our stone mockups back together due to breakage. DO NOT FEEL BAD. Anterior teeth (canines, laterals, incisors) specifcally broke off all the time. The dental stone we used as a working model was often a high water content plaster similar to concrete. When we finished working on the models (or if they kept ******* breaking) we would then use a higher quality gypsum based stone that was much stronger to show the dentists a more accurate mockup. Even that would also often break. Teeth dont like being made of stone.

As soon as you said you were going to try to remove the plaster from the lower impression i said out out: "welp he just chose the harder of the 2 to remove." lowers are thinner in arch and teeth size so theyre more likely to break. Build the plaster up 1-2 inches past the impress so you can get a good handle/grib on it. it'll also keep the impress intact so you could tempt to reuse it easier

It's actually kinda nice to see my job is harder than it seems! • As a jeweler myself, i'd say Nigel did a VERY thorough job preparing the grills post-cast, but if your wax is good enough, you shouldn't have to hone in the gaps and crowns. I recommend just using a heat gun and gently easing the wax in layer by layer. Also, to further increase the *shiny* you could apply a polishing compound on the dremel buffers (there are some specially made to polish 18k gold too).

    • @@insederec Yeah, the fingerprints left in the wax had me wanting to yell 'heat gun' or 'fire' at the screen. Wax is so much easier to smooth than cast metal, do it when it is easy. Another option, used by dentists these days for implants and caps, is to skip the mold process entirely. Scan the teeth with a laser probe, get a 3d model, print the grills in resin, then do "lost resin" casting instead. Very exact results, though the dental laser scanner is not a cheap device...
