Metroid Dread gave us a new and elaborate version of the Chozo Language, and thanks to the research made by the Chozo Cipher Club we have the necessary tools to put it into practice!

Kinu ata mehen ili Chozo bala gimel sabeis elar?
1st step: Learn to speak bird Step 2: teach parrot to speak chozo Step 3: profit
Step 2.1: teach raven to speak Chozo
Or a crow or raven, they actually speak better than a parrot and they speak shockingly good.
African grey parrots speak really clear.
Step 4: parents murdered
Hmm should I study for my Physics test or learn how to speak Chozo, tuff choices
choose Chozo, it'll be so much more applicable in real life situations
Why not both? A chozo is scientifically versed after all
Both, both is good
Pfff. I'm gonna write in Chozo in my exam.
@@that1guy898 Learn both, _become_ Chozo.
Now that we have Prime Remastered, obviously we need to transcribe all of the Chozo Lore scans into the original language
16:22 I like to imagine Grey Voice drew this for Samus.
My first language is Spanish, and I'm learning English, so... Chozo language, here I come.
You're probably much farther than many of us with your already covered language skills.
Tenemos ventaja en pronunciación
My first is Brazilian Portuguese and now that i have learnd english the obvius choice seems to be Chozo
Me! Spanish was my first language, but grew to be more fluent in English lmao
Nice English is my first language, and I did learn matoran recently
If you ever heard someone speak a reconstructed version of ancient Egyptian, Chozo sounds extremely simular.
Well considering theres evidence to suggest that the design for chozo drew inspiration from Egyptian gods, that would make since.
> If you ever heard someone speak a reconstructed version of ancient Egyptian I am sure that applies to the majority of the viewers of this video :D
@@kyx5631 Honestly you never know what people are gonna run across on TikTok. It's a bit more likely than you think.
With the art style on the murals I think it's occurred to me that the Egyptian god ra was probably a chozo and that they built the pyramids.
I noticed this as well since I study biblical Hebrew and several words are very similar, such as Chozo "ana" is similar to Hebrew "ani (אני)" Another similar word is Chozo "ata" and Hebrew's "atah" or the femine "at" (אתה or the femine use את)
I never knew I needed this until now.
me either
Me at 3:00 AM on a school night: *Well well well then lets find out*
Finally. I remember seeing another video about their language a while ago but they were missing so much info, nice to see the fanbase finally figured it out
It also could be that the square and triangular variants are made by Chozo subspecies. Perhaps there are subtle cultural differences that we just haven't seen yet. So the older writing are from Chozo that have now passed after time went on, but the triangular are from those who survived and adapted.
I'd see it more the other way around; the Mawkin are notably very Revanchist and want to go back to the height of the Chozo Empire; maybe they're using an old archaic script because it's what Old Imperial Chozo used.
It doesn't have to be a subspecies, it can just be different use case. For example Egyptian has both hieroglyphs and the Coptic script that was for every day use. A simpler cursive version of hieroglyphs. Latin inscriptions used Majuscules because the angular nature of them made them easier to chisel on to monuments, meanwhile a cursive script also exists, for faster handwriting.
@@Neoprototype also if you look at English for example, old English, Middle English, and modern English are so different that as a native English speaker old English is basically indecipherable nonsense me and others who haven’t studied it.
Japanese and Spanish phonetics are surprisingly similar. I would say more than 75% of basic common sounds are pretty much the same.
Yeah I’d agree there!
Yeah I definitely could hear a Spanish influence in the language. Makes sense considering where it was developed.
creo que no nos parecemos en nada. Yo hablo español y hay un mundo de diferencia con los japoneses jajaja.
No, SOME languages are just degenerating into sounding nothing like it's written. Japanese and Spanish aren't. Properly preserved and revitalized languages tend to go back to the relatively new wellspring of WRITTEN LANGUAGE for reconfirmation. People learn to speak, learn to read, repeat their INTERNAL MONOLOGUE imagined in writing into pronouncing the syllables in a uniform way. Japanese Hiragana to correct the regional differences in dialect is one of these new pronunciation guides. The new, ratified and stable way to how words are SUPPOSED to be pronounced, that all take from the many older Alphabets meant to match the Proto-indo-european origins of people who ACTUALLY can talk to each other. It's democracy in action and genuine free market of ideas. That's why you CAN easily learn a handful of Katakana, that inform you that the context of pronunciation comes from a different source, of foreign loanwords and a number of oter reasons to use it. INSTEAD of learning, or more likely NOT learning, how your OWN languages loanwords are EVER spoken, because THEN you have to learn them in the thousands WITHOUT a written guide. In areas where words are routinely overblown and sensationalized into being unacceptable, uncool, or embarrassing to use, people WON't learn an internal monologue, like children raised by wolves who don't have a proper symbolic language, and they just approximate explaining their ideas by single-syllable words and emojis. IN THESE AREAS literacy rates crash, and nobody knwos or cares if the words they struggle to even REMEMBER the writing of, are anywhere close to reflective of THE LIVING LANGUAGE of the spoken word, and its tribal enclaves of speaking it jsut so slightly differently. Areas like English monolingual world, that finds this convenient for censorious purposes, and will beat you up FOR FREE if you utter "nigeru" in their presence and won't nigerundayo the EFF out of there.

This is truly amazing! Time for me to learn some Chozo, and experience Bird Magic like never before!! Seriously, shout-outs to everybody involved in deciphering the Chozo language, and to you for spreading the word!
Huge congratulations to the Chozo Cipher Club for cracking the code! Thanks for sharing their findings!

God i loved the chozo, i always got the same feeling with the forunners from halo lore, metroid is much less in your face with it though, and that i appreciate a lot
I'm surprised that someone hasn't even replicated Adam's A.I. voice from Dread. Having Adam in your channel would be awesome.
You have no idea how inspiring this video is to me. I am a game developer dabbling in conlangs, and hoping to one day have my language feature in a game. I keep wondering why even bother doing all this work for something players won't even understand? Why should anyone care enough? Who would even try deciphering it for real? I'm always on the verge of quitting/rebooting my languages again, but this video is a very strong motivator to keep going. So thanks for that :)
'Elma is the greatest' knowing Orpheon I'm not surprised

Ok, stop. We need to talk. You literally read my mind. Yes, you, @The Orpheon It was 2 days max from today when I thought about learning Chozo and tried to look it up. You. Literally. Read. My mind. Are we on the same vibe? Is Google doing Google things? This is creepy and also useful. Well, anyways, thank you for making this video. Urge sated.
Ok, this is the coolest shit ever, hands down
I'm gonna learn chozo just mess with my friends
There probably are many different Chozo languages in the Metroid universe.
Depending on tribe and/or colony.
Two actually known at this point, the Zebes one and the Dread one.
I headcannon that they speak in some sort of lingua franca for convenience sake, but the Chozo writings from ZDR is the traditional writing system that every other colonies have simplified, just like how Taiwan uses traditional Chinese
I was so amazed by some of the deep examples, and then you mention Best Girl Elmo! Bravo John, inside joke level: master!
Now I can teach a Raven this and named him Raven Beak. Very original

I just find it wild that not only did the devs actually put in the work to make an actual language that makes sense, but that a talented team of people managed to decipher and analyze said language to the point of being able to recreate it. Genuinely amazing stuff.
I remember seeing an earlier video about this, crazy too see how far it’s come considering as far as I remember from that video the whole alphabet hadn’t been found yet.
So cool you made a video on this! I knew about the course but had no idea some fonts were made of the dread writing! (Btw, not sure if i just cant find it, but I don't think there's a link?) Anyway, after the end I really want to see videos of birds mimicking a human's chozo XD
Link should be added soon, don’t fret! In the meantime, the fonts are included in the same download file as the course!
@@DeadweightLKS Cool, thanks!
Time to translate the entire metroid wikipedia into chozo
This is so awesome! I have been subbed to you for so long and I have to say, the content has always been top tier. Keep it up!!!
Thank you so much for making this video. I love this sort of thing!
The language and voice modification you made are really close to the demon in sundered, I love it
Loving the AI: The Somnium Files music!
Cool. Probably will never learn it or use it (like Star Fox Dino Language) but still cool.
Sylux: We better have some god damn subtitles when prime 4 comes out -.-
Okay, this is pretty sick! This could have some interesting uses!
My God, you guys finally did it. Awesome!
Great! Now on my resume is can say I learned a second language
This would be sick if it could be fully fleshed out and added to Duolingo to learn. They have Klingon (Star Trek) and Valyrian (Game of Thrones).
Take that Star Trek, and your Klingon! Now we have another alien language to use for secret messages 😉.
Wouldn`t it make sense, that the writing in squares would be typical for the Thoha tribe, while the triangles are typical Mawkin writing? It would fit their nature, with the Thoha being the scientists, while the Mawkin were the warriors.
I don't think so, that' not very typical to how languges develop. You can do this kind of stuff with driving opposite sides of the road in France or UK, but that's very short-term political enforcment of brand new technology etiquette. Thoha and Mawkin wouldn't be so perfectly separated that they won't adopt a mutual way of spelling, they would just both adopt both ways and have them merge together. EVEN MORE so if they are enemies exchanging demands of each other, although, stranger things ahve happened. In US politics, it wouldn't be unheard of it liberals and conservatives all put opposing meme furry suits on each letter of the ENGLISH alphabet, just to make sure NO government can function or read letters frm EITHER SIDE of the aisle, THAT kind of thing COULd happen. It already does, if you count the fact the same exact sentence is taken as sarcasm or hysteria, based on which network airs it as news. Like reading Modest Proposal, and both sides air news of it being a bad or good idea, but delivered straight. THEN you can flame up a brother war, not with distance, but EXACTLY because the mooks are close to each other but convinced into thinking they don't benefit from the same privileges, or support all the same hypocricies.
@@sboinkthelegday3892 You know, i actually just had a thought that the more scientific inclined Thoha would prefer writing in squares, because they wouldn`t have to worry about the symmetric aspect and could easier take notes while observing their environement/experiments, basically their version of cursive writing. Meanwhile the warriors of the Mawkin would prefer the triangles and the symmentric aspect as both a display of grandeur and sophistication and a means of having a clear cut writing, since Chozo can be both read horizontally and vertically, the triangles also indicate how to read, which with the squares is harder to do.
It’s rare, but sometimes the same language can use different alphabets. For example Serbian can use both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, or Mongolian can be written with Cyrillic or traditional Mongolian script.
I am really impressed by this! ^_^ How far humanity has come to be able to make new languages from existing ones and it just brings people together. I need to take the time and check this out. But let's try and get my foot in the door with Spanish first.
Tolkien did this as well, decades ago. Dude was a linguistics professor, if I remember correctly. Coherently fabricated fantasy languages, like you said, bring the world together.
When the Duolingo bird comes to kill me and my family but I speak Chozo and they are like "This dude is speaking my language😮"
In chozo Raven beak is pronounced ashkar behek
They said in many games and other materials that the chozo were mostly gone however they weren't completely extinct.
Funny thing is that the Chozo are basically Tengu IN SPACE! No wonder they're either mystical hyperadvanced scholars, the greatest warriors in the galaxy, or both.
Two fictional languages I want to learn: Dovahkiin and Chozo.
This is the most nerdish Metroid video ever.
Bunta tostek gal olmen ata mar kinu! (great work for everything you are doing!)
So, if you write down one of Raven Beak's most powerful prahses, it would look like a meme: "PoWeR iS eVrYtHiNg"

@@erikledune9292 ANA HABAR ILI HADAR!!!!!
we might not be able to speak chozo, but everyone knows what "HADAR SEN OLMEN" means
Greetings. I have been having a lot of fun using the cipher and have been doing so quite a lot recently and have been trying to decipher what I can of the language I can as I come across it in the game. On the Mawkin mural 5:31, the far-right text transcribes to: "Ura menke uramahar turuki nupha." I am able to translate some of what it says, "We honor our. . . " but I am stumped as to what the words "turuki" and "nupha" mean. I could draw from some of the context depicted on the mural to a few possible meanings. I am leaning toward "turuki" being the word for fallen (meaning that the verb for "to fall" would be turuk) but it's currently just a speculation. Nupha on the other hand, could mean a few different things in reference to the depiction and the mural can't really help me there and I am definitely no expert in languages, let alone ones we've barely scratched the surface of. I was wondering if anyone has been doing the same and has made more progress than I, or has some inferences that they came up with. Would like to bounce ideas and knowledge back and forth.
The kids are gonna love this I'm so happy
Cool!
Good use of MegaMan Battle Network music!
11:56 Speaking Chozo 15:25
Interesting that a videogame actually made a legit language 😮😮
This video remind me when I played MMO RPG game. There was a person who write in language that I didn't understand and I came to that person and ask what language is that. And he said that is dark language from LOTR. I was so shocked that you can learn language that are made up in the books or other media like games, movies or animated serials.
19:03 pupper 😊
I already know the norse runic alphabet, I could scare the heck out of any linguist if I could write and speak chozo
Luminoth next please!
Perpaps the shape of the letters differs by tribe. Ergo Mawkin use triangles.
I wana learn how to speak Luminoth. That would be dope!
Funny birbs
Funnily enough, this isn't the first Japanese game series to develop a whole new language just for the sake of it. Ar Tonelico hymmnos (and _related_ languages, yes, Hymmnos has _RELATED LANGUAGES_ like a real language) is probably the masterwork of such.
The Panzer Dragoon series flirted with this as well (especially Orta).
Should I study for my Cyber security course or study the Chozo language? Tough choices
In some sense i wish chozo language was more difficult to translate like hebrew or mandarin
Mercury Steam would have needed a lot more time for that better for them to have just used the 2 languages they knew as basis
The sound of the language reminds me of Sindarin for some reason.
Next vid should be how to eat Chorizo with the Chozo! ;) lol
Ok. Anyone notice that the background music for the video is from megaman BN series?
Man i hope we get a zonai language translation so that i can confuse tf out of my teacher by writing zonai and speaking chozo (zonai are from zelda btw)
Do you think the Chozo Cipher Club is willing to accept *fan additions to the Chozo vocabulary?* The words used in Dread were taken mainly from Arabic and (I think) Hebrew anyway. So why not?
Does this mean I can use 'bird magic' now?
I can confirm. I started speaking Chozo last week. Now I’ve bioengineered my first parasitic life form and can fit into a morph ball.
@@solarsailor1534 .......does it hurt?
Weirdly, Chozo is a 'easy' fantasy language because it's just English words and sentences written in cypher and pronounced with a different phonetic. Same as Watcher speak from Drakengard/Nier Then you have Tolkien Elfish and Vulcan that are way harder.
