I was kinda disappointed we didn't get multiple incarnations zss like in Samus returns but the art gallery is good in their own right and I find myself liking them more and more everyday
Same, though I do wish dread mode featured zss, as a one hit kill would make more sense in that kind of situation.

@@neko_knockout I heard "all it takes is one hit" and I thought it referred to ZSS in the death animation. I actually had an idea for a ZSS mode where she had different abilities from armored Samus.
@@splashor6361 You've probably got better ideas than I do - a mode like that would pay homage to zero mission :) a way to explain the zero suit could be that when raven beak first encounters her, she's left with only that suit rather than the power suit. A lot of changes would have to be made to the core game play like adding a crawling mechanic and changing item rooms up, so I'm imagining it would take too much time to implement in a dlc release. Too many loose ends to fix...like how zero suit samus would eventually have to enter extreme temperature areas, and how the ending would play out with the metroid suit and all.
Damn. Elma's cookies should be extremely good to see people speedrun an escape from an dangerous planet.

While you can't exactly skip the prologue, the game creates a save after you play it once. So it might be a good idea to create a save file that starts with the intro done. So it's sort of like Super Metroid in that regard, if you know how speedrunning works there.
Just wish it was like the JPN version of Fusion, where you can just skip the intro prologue all together

Just a quick and kind of useless tip: if you shinespark from below in the Experiment Z-57 fight, it'll active a secret camera angle which makes the instakill look much cooler!
I did that and feels rewarding because you get the special camera angle, exspecialy if you fail the shinespark over and over again.
15:38 I don't know man. Having those chozo ships placed there powered and ready is something they absolutely wanted you to notice, like Kraid's missing wall spike, or the Experiment's corpse gone from it's dissection table.
Cutscenes do actually count to the completion timer, however even if you skip them, the game adds the cutscenes length time automatically to the save file. That’s why speedrunners skip ice artaria altogether, as it has too many cutscenes that are rather long

Edit: you don't need any sequence breaks to beat the game under 4 hours. I didn't use any and I beat normal mode in 3.5 hours. I just used the Samura guide from KZhead. When I saw the most recent Nintendo direct, I wondered what you thought about all of the new free updates to Dread as well as the reveal of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I'm glad that the ending rewards of Dread will all unlock at once. You can beta Normal mode in 3 hours and still unlock the ending rewards from 4+ and 8+ hours too. Unlocking everything all at once felt very quality of life upgrade that I'm glad to see in a modern game. I was a bit disappointed that Dread didn't have something additional beyond the gallery, tho. In Samus Returns, the gallery and Chozo memories were for completion percentage (100% items), and the ending rewards of Samus and ZSS were for ending time percentage. Here in Dread, it's a small image based on a different previous Metroid game for time completion, and the Chozo memories for the 100%. But it felt like they played it a bit safe with the ending rewards tbh. However, all of the gallery images are beautiful, as were the CG images shown within the game itself at the beginning of the game.

Here's another tip for Raven Beak especially if you're strapped for missles. Believe it or not, but Ice Missles will be doing more damage for frequently than Storm Missles. Ideally you only want to use Storm Missles on the purple orbs RB sends out, otherwise pelt him with normal Ice Missles and the fight will go considerably faster
I had better experiences doing the opposite. Purple orb needs just 4 ice missiles to destroy, while 5 storm missiles aren't enough; on the other hand, I found storm missiles easier to hit and wave beam more damaging than ice missiles.

I already completed the game in 6 days from 25 to 31 of december with all the chozo archives abd endings and secret images of both of them one hour before 2022 but still thanks for doing this vídeo so rookies have a chance to complete the game and thanks for showing new ways of sequence breaking i didn't know about, also love your art style of metroid characters :3
I've beaten the game 4x and have used the fun skips like Kraid bombing & early gravity suit. It's easy enough to remember and perform now but I find myself getting a bit more lost from all the skipping I be doing lol. Game is still fantastic. I'll probably give it a couple more runs 🔥
A cool reward they could've added to the game for getting a fast time (or just as a part of a DLC or something) could be the ability to swap out what suit skin Samus has on. So say for example you just got the gravity suit but you think the varia suit looks better, you can switch back to that aesthetic. Or say you really like the final metroid suit -- you can replay the whole game just wearing that. I see no reason this couldn't work, but if it's awkward it would be fine if the suit changed back to the skin it should have during cut-scenes.
It be great if they added Metroid Suit mode like what Prime/Samus Returns did with the Fusion suit. Maybe something for the future.
The consistent lack of bomb jump mentions saddens me, but great video as always!
Didnt find much of a need for them when it came to this route, but goes without saying you can use them instead of cross bombs

Just a heads up don't get space jump during the escape if you skipped it during the game. It can make a few parts kind of tricky especially since you also don't have flash shift but if you've made it this far you shouldn't have too much problems. Ravenbeak without space jump isn't too bad. The only move you really need space jump for is the spinning gun during phase 2, and that can be avoided using the sliding counter trick. The hardest fight without space jump in my opinion is the Experiment, especially during the double claw attack, but you can finish him with a shinespark before that.

9:33 you don't have to Shinespark, if you have cross bombs, they are much easier to get up there with.

Surprisingly, I had a faster time on hard mode. What's weird was that I got *MORE* expansions that time around and funnily enough skipped the Pulse Radar.

yes the game is amazing, thank you for the tips and sequence breaks. It seems like a good challenge to go through again on harder mode and under 4hr for art gallery unlocks 100% items. I find the story fascinating, and I just love it ever since I played metroid fusion on my old gba.

For the Gravity Suit sequence break, you don't need to press Y + B. when you shoot the blocks below you, just press B and it'll work. And if you make sure not to jump but just fall off of the platform right after the slide you can just press B.
gonna be honests i managed to get under 4 hours, 3hours and 37min was my best time and i didnt need to sequence break it, just you need to know where to go next and beat bosses asap, Shine Spark really helps on a lot of those battles and just moving around as well, this game is just really great and i cant wait for what they come up next

Took me two runs to get under four hours. Thank you sir for this route, I wanted to go fast without any huge or difficult glitches. My fastest time was 2:45:30!

This might be a sequence break but I'm not sure since I just did it by accident but you can actually grab the radar pulse before the flash shift All I did was use the orange teleporter and I grabbed it. P.S. you can also skip the drogyga boss entirely by doing a psudo-beam

I tried this strategy so many times and i always messed up in worst possible way. First by missing last bossfight chance for 15 minutes, second time i completely forgot the wave beam so i had to go all over again. Still its a very good video

I really enjoy them. Dread mode is a fun challenge for hardcore fans, while rookie is useful for those who need extra support. Really looking forward to boss rush. I hope that completing these extra challenges adds more rewards like ending screens or alternate suits

I've completed the game in just over 3 hours with no sequence breaks. You just have to know the fastest route to the next item or boss.

That intro tho... poor XCX, no love from Monolithsoft. Ah well, I can always theorize that XC3 takes place in ancient Mira long before the white whale crash landed. 5:04 that wall jump is hard, but once you get it once or twice and you get the timing figured out it get's a lot easier. The tricky part is the jump on the other end of the tunnel that will send you right back into the lava. 8:30 Huh, I actually found that Shinespark puzzle significantly easier than the wall jump from earlier. Man, this actually a really cool rout, it's cool to see some of the developer intended exploits in action.
I've got an amazing theory about lore and rearranging games that eradicates most continuity errors I'd like to run by you if you have the time.

Yes, first playthrough I came in without screw attack and the fight drove me up the wall. Sequence broke every run since and haven't regretted it
I've cheesed that fly so many times I have no clue how to fight it normally. Same with Kraid.

My best time is 3:18, but for Arceus' sake, for the life of me, I just CAN'T seem to be able to do a 100% speedrun under 4:30...
You just gotta practice all the moves and know the fastest route. I’ve played through like 30 times and got all the way down to 3 hours 12 minutes. It’s possible. You also have to just run past nearly all of the enemies. You’ll get there
This is to my understanding the optimal route to get everything without sweating too much (also without glitches).. if you include the shinespark kills on some chozo guards the guide could be perfect 🤔

I say skip getting the Screw Attack early. It is nice that it exists, but it doesn't help you with the fight against the Experiment and it is quicker to fight it first, then go to the blue teleporter nearby to warp right next to the Screw Attack.

Bro I know you gotta like the mmbn series cuz you keep using music from it, so I'm just gonna say it. Go try One Step from Eden, it's basically rogue lite mmbn with an Absolutely fire OST and really fun gameplay. Hell, it even has an official MMBN remix on the soundtrack.
last time i beat dread i wasn't trying to get 100%, i actually never got 100% because i only want tobget that after playing all the other metroid games in canonical order. But by not goinf for 100% i casually with really trying much, got a 4:29 minute run, if i were going for 100% then yeah it would be much longer but since i'm not, this guide will definetly help me get under 4 hours edit: i got a 5 hour on my first wver playthrough of dread

AfaIk, it's not possible to finish the game without the x-bombs, because of the section at 10:25. I tried for sth like 1 hour before giving up on that. Why? Because you can't morph quickly enough in mid-air to switch to the bombs.
It is possible, many have sent me clips of skipping it by wall jumping on the right, or bomb hopping fast enough. Takes practice but it is possible and the difficulty is why I recommend using the cross bombs

I just flash shift to skip the second incline after getting my second shine spark.
I wish it were possible to unlock these ending images via Item Completion % instead of ONLY speed running. I simply do not have the skill level to get under 4 hours.

I didn’t have trouble getting under 4 hours in dread in both easy and hard mode, and I only used the “casual” route with no sequence breaks. My hardmode run was 3:10 with a completely normal run. Anyone else?
I get the Best ending at My second atemp becuse the first time i Lost time trying to make a short but i end in the normal way xD and that way is the faster

I already commented but I wanted to comment again. You don't actually need to sequence break to beat the game in under 4 hours. At least, not if you are just playing for fun. Perhaps for 100% completion you might need sequence breaks. But if you just want the endings without 100% completion, sequence breaks aren't needed or necessary. Samura on KZhead made a guide that helped players to beat the game on normal/hard mode without sequence break or glitches. It's not a 100% guide, so it's pretty much for whatever upgrades you want to collect on the way. Also, why would you fight the experiment boss at all if you already have the screw attack? Most speed runners skip the experiment boss altogether once the have the screw attack. The experiment boss is meant to be the gateway to obtaining the screw attack, but you don't need to melt the ice if you already have screw attack.
When doing tests I tried to skip experiment boss, but the elevator to go back to Burenia is still frozen so it wont work, same as the teleporters in Artaria, so the only fix is by fighting Z-57. Speedrunners skip this fight with a glitch that can he difficult for casuals compared to just sparking the boss, hence why I went with this for the video. And as I mentioned, my group of friends didn’t have much trouble with it and had fun essentially getting anew playthrough than just playing it ‘the normal way’ again
@@TheOrpheon Ah, I'm guessing you mean the underwater bomb jump glitch? If so, I forgot that was a glitch, the speed runners made it look so natural. But in that case, why not just go to the experiment boss normally and then come back for screw attack, instead of going back and forth?
Yes its a glitch of sorts that speedrunners have made look natural, a bit more practice than what You might expect a casual fan to try haha. You dont really go back and forth. Normally you have to fight Z-57 to then go back to Artaria to then go to Burenia and fight 2 golden chozo robots, etc. In this route you collect the Screwattack while you are already in Frozen Artaria so that when you defeat Z-57, you can just use the local teleport to take you to Ghavoran > Ferenia and defeat the Purple Emmi and bosses much faster. So ‘normal’ way its: Artaria > z57 > artaria Screwattack > progress (to burenia/cataris/dairon to then go to ferenia and travel on foot to items) This way its: Artaria+Screwattack > z57 > progress straight to Ghavoran via Teleport which is next to Ferenia and key items

What was weird for me was that I got 3:21 on a hard mode file and I got the last 3 endings for hard mode but not the ones for normal mode
That bugs me. Why do people call them "endings?" There's only ever one ending. What people should be saying is the reward
I think it comes from the fact that the Prime games had extensions to the ending depending on your %, and people just kinda continues to use it for the rest, at least for me as someone who started with that series. We know they aren’t technically different endings like other games offer, but it just rolls of the tongue better and we all know what we are referring to
@@TheOrpheon the prime games did have different endings to be fair especially hunters where you scan skip the second phase of gorea and samus dies
@@novustalks7525 I meant technically only hunters really have alternate endings, since the result is rather different between on and the other (and the only Metroid game where that logic applies) Prime endings are more or less extensions of each other since the narrative doesnt change (like say in Other M with its prologue) But like I said its just a term not properly used that has stuck in the community

Soooo by this logic the same can be said for Metroid Nes - metroid 2 - super - fusion - prime trilogy (since its post credit stuff) - hunters ? Since zero mission and other m are the only ones with playable Zero Suit or have it mid-game
@@TheOrpheon I don't mean playable Zero Suit. I meant as a end game reward reveal. But what Dread does is just give you a better suit (Varia or Gravity) and a zoom in to her helmet with a shot of her eyes. No taking off the suit.
