Van, after watching the video briefly, I realized the same thing. This snake CLEARLY doesn’t have rattlers on it’s tail. Plus, the snake bit the squirrel a few times yet, the squirrel continued fighting without showing side affects from the bite. This is NOT a rattlesnake!

This is what I hate....absolute idiots who can't let nature take it's natural course. Squirrels actually eat snakes on occasion and this squirrel might have been just trying to get a meal but you have the rock throwing assholes that just can't stand to just enjoy nature they have to disturb it instead.

@@John14-6-iamtheway LOL funny you mentioned moving. I left Flori-Duh 9 years ago after living there since 1969 (Yeah I was lucky enough to watch one of the Apollo ships go up in '69). Just couldn't take the stupid there any longer. It is bad there now that nearly all of the North East has moved there.

Yeah and/or the squirrel knows once this gopher snake gets big, it will try and eat him/her or his/her babies inside the burrow so it’s trying to get ahead of the game. And maybe get a bonus meal out of it too….

Impressive. Only ... it isn't a rattlesnake. Not even close it is a Pituophis, NOT a Crotalus.

Ground squirrels are tough and have tolerance to rattlesnake venom if I recall. Appears to be a gopher snake, which is also immune to same venom; squirrel has fought snakes often.

Since someone's already corrected the wrong snake part, throwing stones at a rattler is a waste of time. They see HEAT signatures not movement. It's not a Cobra or Mamba they detect heat through the pits along their heads ie; pitt vipers.

I concur, it's not a rattlesnake, if you look at the tail it has no rattle and the tail shape is not that of a rattIer. It's head is aIso not the head of a rattler. It's definitely a gopher snake which is not venomous. They do hiss but they're harmless to humans. Perhaps that's why the squirrel isn't too afraid of it. The squirrel is too large for the snake to eat it, but it may have babies nearby that it's defending.

Knowledge is power, it's definitely not a rattlesnake, it's a non venomous gopher snake & harmless to humans. I've worked in wild snake education for years. Learn to identify the venomous snakes in your area, then you will know that every other snake you may encounter is harmless. Even if you encounter a rattlesnake, no one ever got hurt by walking away. No animaI shouId be kiIIed for the crime of being born and breathing the same air as we do. Do a search, venomous snakes in your state/county, then study the pictures until you're familiar with them. Watch where you step in snake country, don't reach your hands anywhere you cannot clearIy see. Venomous snakes deserve respect, but you don't need to be afraid of them. Like us, they will defend themselves if they feeI threatened. Otherwise they want nothing to do with us.
